I have been wanting to try this place for several months and luckily happened to be in RH around lunch. The food- I got the Capital Dog and the Fiesta dog. Capital dog is pictured below with the pretzel bun. Fiesta dog is resplendent with corn. Both were delicious. You have to start with the Capital dog. The quality of ingredients was fresh and top quality. The dog had perfect texture, flavor and was well cooked. The Fiesta dog was like a party for the tastebuds. The mixture of sweetness from the corn, savory cheese sauce and onions were punctuated by sharp little bites of heat from sauce or maybe peppers? The Place- looked very professional. Imagine a Dean and DeLuca that specialized in unique sodas, chips and other sundries. There were many items in there that I am confident can not be found anywhere else in NC or SC. I saw some HERR's baby back rib chips that hope to get back to visit. I forgot to get a milkshake but hear they are delicious. I also was dog focused, but the pizza looked good. Parking is available in about 5-6 spaces up front and I think this is more of a carry out place. I spoke to the owner - was very impressed. He is focused on excellence and it shows. He has been awarded a Heinz 'Black Kitchen Initiative' award. The place looked clean and he made me feel welcome! I hope you get to enjoy Surefire, I am definitely headed back to get my Milkshake and Pizza!

I've seen that there isn't much of a storefront so I opted for the drive-thru. I ordered a variety of dogs to include the Southwest, the Rueben, the Palmetto Smoker, and the Carolina Popper. The dogs came out after about 5 minutes of waiting in the drive-thru. After getting home, I immediately opened the spread and looked at the dogs. The photos I saw online gave it more justice as I was underwhelmed from looking at the dogs. All the dogs tasted good but it was just good. With the place not being servirle orientated, you would expect more emphasis to be placed on the food but I didn't really feel that. More focus seems to be on loading up toppings rather than making a real quality dog that you would even enjoy void of toppings. All in all, I knew I had to try the depot but I don't feel like coming back and I don't think you'd be "missing out" if you don't make your way here.

I don't get the hype around Nathan's. The hot dog itself was just okay, but the bun? Stale and dry, like it had been sitting out all day. It completely ruined the experience. To make things worse, the fries were a disaster--soggy, limp, and completely flavorless. For a place that's supposed to be famous, you'd think they'd at least get the basics right. On top of that, the setup was a mess. The ordering process was chaotic, the place wasn't particularly clean, and the whole experience felt rushed and disorganized. Definitely not worth the price or the long lines. I won't be back. read more

Everything about our experience at The Improper Pig was absolutely perfect! From the moment we walked in, the decor and atmosphere stood out and hit all the marks, a few dust places but I'm assuming this place has been here awhile so let's call it that...but the attention to detail made the restaurant feel unique, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed in a warm way. The service was top-notch, with a friendly and attentive waitress she was more eager to fill our drinks than I was to drink lol but honestly she single handily was a beautiful train of productivity, the entire staff was, very impressed, that's a rare find these days and especially for the South. The manager, I imagine runs a tight ship...that helped make the experience even better. The biggest surprise was when my fried rice arrived at the table. The portion size was incredible for the price, mostly because and the quality of the food exceeded my expectations. It was flavorful, satisfying, and clearly made with technique. I will say the brisket on the barbecue plate my husband ordered was incredibly dry, the plethora of flavors of barbecue sauce on the table couldn't help it either...I'm thinking they reheat the meat for the bbq plates throughout the day (which makes sense) but they maybe need to consider another reheating method or I'm curious when the bbq is freshly made...I'd love to come in that day. Either way I truly left almost completely speechless...what a gem. We will be back to ensure it wasn't a one off type of day. Just to see if what we experienced was their norm or not. Fortunately, this was a good experience. Ordering took awhile, as we did not know their menu of options, but we got it done. Wife had a three sides plate ($8.49) and she liked it. And we ate in their outdoor patio, which was clean and tidy. I had a pastrami Sandwich City Meal which came with a side, but the kicker is that I had to pay for each side plus the meal. Sandwich ($10.99) I ordered "lean" as BBQ places usually leave the fat on your protein. The meat was pretty dry, but had a good taste. A side of creamy slaw was very good ($2) and I was able to eat some of wife's fried okra, which was also very good with ranch dressing. Beverages, like iced tea and Pepsi were $2.99 each. The tables inside were cleared with the exception of one large table that had their traditional display of uneaten food and debris. I only saw three employees: order taker, kitchen preparer and a woman who picked up the orders and brought them to you. Apparently City BBQ has yet to hire a bus person to clear and clean tables and to sweep the floor. Irony is that when we have been to events catered by City BBQ the food was excellent.
