I've always had a soft spot for Golden Chick. I'm this part of Central Texas Golden Chick was Tenders while the clown restaurant was still trying to figure out eggs. They may be the original tender for all i know. The biggest issues for this Golden Chick are accessibility and packaging. FOOD They still keep the important ingredient primo -- the quality chicken and its prep. Juicy, good size, tender (funny how some places don't understand the inherent quality that gives the chicken TENDER its name), the batter is crunchy and golden (again, living up to the name). Delicious chicken. The sides (especially battered fries and gravy for dipping everything in) are very good too. SERVICE AND CLEANLINESS are outstanding But getting to it all? LOCATION is tough. It's a get-off-the-interstate-immediately-cross-two-lanes-of-traffic tough. Then you slam on the brakes to avoid the massive sunken potholes. Now, cross through the clowns in the McDonald's parking lot (yes, navigate McDonald's parking lot first) and you're finally at your golden spot for chicken. I was disappointed in PACKAGING too. Gone are those cardboard boxes that kept food hot. See-thru plastic lid, compartmentalized containers couldn't keep my food hot even for the 4-mile trek home. Tenders over battered for my taste. Wish the renders came broasted not just battered. Sides were Cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Sides are not made to order - known in advance. Rolls are tasty. Stopped here the other weekend for a quick bite on the way up I-35. The food was above average overall. The staff is very nice. but clearly focused on the drive-through and dining in is a bit of an afterthought. One of my favorite things about Golden is their soft ice cream machine for dine in guests. I had to ask the staff for a cone, which was no big deal. The ice cream itself was so runny that it's inedible. This restaurant is entirely hit or miss. We have had undercooked tenders, syrupy tea, and rude service. I have met some of the nicest people at this location, but I have also met people I would never want to encounter again. From having a mouth full of food while taking our order to snapping at us when picking up our food, it seems that management needs to review the standards of customer service. I worked in the service industry for 10 years, and I can't imagine being blatantly rude to a customer, especially if no attitude was given in the first place. Also, if a customer is around maybe employees shouldn't speak negatively about previous guests. If they are in earshot the,y can hear you. In this business, you are only as good as the expectations given by management. If management is rude and does not have the proper etiquette, your employees will follow suit. read more

Good little friend chicken chain that was perfect for my long drive from Austin to LA. I really like their sweet tea and corn nuggets. They didn't have any napkins but other than that, golden as golden gets. They also added the new roasted chicken to the menu so there is a somewhat healthy alternative which I appreciated very much. So this is one of our favorite "on the go" places to go to and we drive by this one every time we go to DFW (we are Austinites). My son was the only one hungry this time and we ordered his usual 6 pc tenders with sides and drink. Oh and a side of their amazing LotaZing powder. Got to the 2 Nd window and got our food. Asked the young lady (I later found out her name is Karina and may be he store manager) and asked if we were getting our lota zing and she confirmed it was there. Well, I guess you can Imagine where this is going.... 15 miles down the road we open the bag and my son asks for the powder... none was there. Mom looked, sister looked and we had plenty ketchup but no awesomeness powder!! So we called, not to complain but to let the manager know we had asked twice To make sure got what we ordered and we ended not getting it. Bad on us , we should not have pulled away without checking!!!! Anyway, food as always was very good!!! I was extremely impressed with my visit at Golden Chick tonight. I stop to get dinner for the family before heading home. After a long exhausting day, I walked in and was greeted by employees with smiles on their faces and friendly voices. Such a plus when employees greet you and make you feel welcomed. This place is neat, clean and very organized. I loved how they had an Ice cream machine for dessert at no charge for dine in only. My order was correct and everything was cooked perfectly. So yummy!
