It's been hit and miss. Been back in the area for the past two months and I've given it multiple chances. Based in the cost point, the food quality no longer delivers. Add to that, the last time I was there the chicken they served was old - the texture was tough, the bones were very dark, and it was so heavily brined it wasn't the least bit enjoyable. This place has some pretty good chicken and is at a pretty cool rest stop, to mix it up from all of the usual typical predictable chains along your route if you're driving through Oklahoma. This golden chick is truly unbeatable- I've been here more times than I can count. Mrs. Lula Ramsey, who runs this location is wonderful and truly cares about how this place runs. The staff is always attentive and polite, and the food is always delicious. You always have the option to get the food original or spicy, but for those who like it spicier, they can make it as spicy as you'd like. I've gone through all the sides, and they're always fresh and tasty. If you're driving along i35, you have to stop here. Got the chick strips , catfish with fries and fried okra.... it was pretty good! The only thing that turned neg was that one of our drinks had a brown hair in it . It was my first time coming here and I did not like it one bit. The cashier is lazy and I guess she was upset because she wanted To go on her break. I did not like it the lady slammed my food down on the table and when I asked for barbecue sauce she had an attitude with me and charged me. I literally have to save my husband from himself every time we visit this Golden Chick in particular, it's just that good! Lol. We have visited this location many many times and it's scrumptious each trip. They used to have the self serve ice cream station out and customers were allowed 1 cone per person with a purchase. Of course people had to ruin it for everyone else by filling up big cups with ice cream!! Now the employees have to give it to you from behind the counter which is cool but still. Always a few to ruin it for everyone else, smh. I got the roasted chicken this time, a two piece breast and wing, and my husband got the 4 tenders. Actually he had about 6 because they sometimes through in a few extra and of course there are no complaints there with him! Since KFC closed, Guthrie is very limited on its fried chicken options, so it was with great pleasure that I found that Golden Chick was an option. I have never tried any of their franchises, so I visited not knowing what to expect. This location is part of the Guthrie Travel Center and is conveniently located on Highway 33 at exit 157 (Noble Avenue, if you turn West at the exit). The prices of the chicken orders are comparable to other chicken places, like KFC and Church's. My family wasn't impressed by the taste of the coating of the fried chicken, and the mashed potatoes are basic and flavorless, so you definitely need the gravy to help them along, but the fried okra is flavorful. The one item that this restaurant has that is truly remarkable is their yeast rolls. They are wonderful. Also, I have to give kudos to this location's customer service. When a mistake was made on my order, the manager went above and beyond the call of duty to make it right. Because there are few chicken options in Guthrie, I would probably eat here again, but I may try the roast chicken next time, check my order carefully, and I will definitely order extra rolls! read more

Had the worst visit ever this make the 3rd time they have missed up my order. They forgot my ice tea so I had yo turn around and go get it. However there is more. When I got home I unpacked my food and they yet again messed up my food. I ask for dark meat and what I got was white. The last two times they messed up they forgot my corn nuggets. I only give it one star because I couldn't give it any less. I guess next time I go I'll just have to hold a microscope to there work. read more

I'm very picky when it comes to chicken, especially fried. Since we live in Guthrie we have Golden Chick at least 2-3 times a month. It used to be weekly but it costs too much to eat out all of the time. We get the Mixer which feeds 8+ & you get the tenders, chicken on the bone, 3 sides, rolls & dipping sauce. I've also tried the tender sandwich that is delicious! The rolls are to die for! The spicy tenders definitely have a kick & I love their seasoned fries! You can eat them without ketchup!
