Star employee Okay so I had an order that was previously missing from my order which was 2 4 pc tenders I had previously called in and they said to come and they'll make it right so I went in and at first I thought it would've been a hard time to get my order but I was wrong by far, it was quite the opposite. I went in and this gentleman greeted me and asked how my day was and what he could get for me told him that I was called in for my combos and he asked the manager and then told me it was no problem. I had a long way home and I had also purchased a two fish combo which I wanted to be fresh. I asked for everything to be made at the same time as the fish came out so I could come home with fresh food. I thought it was be a burden but the employee was very kind and understanding he told me not to worry that he'll make sure everything is made fresh I thanked him and went to get my drinks and the eating area looked clean and without messes there was also spice in the containers which was a pleasing surprise it look no longer than 10 minutes and everything was ready I asked him for his name and he said his name was marcel amazing employee by the way, anyways, i went home and when we opened our food I was surprised how delicious and especially fresh the food was everything from the okra to the roll was fresh this is the best experience I've had at a fast food restaurant all thanks to the employee for giving me such a good and exceptional experience to me and my family. I 100% will be returning even if it's 30 minutes away the experience is worth it. 10/10 read more

While the staff & food has been good (roast chicken runs out), the self serve area has not been found kept up with on a couple dine in. Today's visit had no utensil, no straws, no ice, no regular sweet-unsweet tea, no hand soap in the ladies restroom, a floor spill with a cone blocking it right by the self serve area, not that there was much to help yourself with, other than some fountain drinks. The tenders are the perfect amount of crispy, the fries are alway golden, and the sweet tea is always on point! I have come to this location multiple times in the past 7 years and it has been good until recently. I understand times are tuff right and I have taken that into account. The last couple of times I have gone there the rolls have been at least a day old and 1/2 the chicken is fresh and the other 1/2 is tuff and old. Stopped here for a quick late lunch on the way to Houston. I had to wait for chicken tenders. No problem. I'd rather have fresh than product sitting under the heat lamps. And once I got them, they were pretty decent. The fries were "ok" too, albeit obviously frozen food service fries. I did order the spicy tenders which were on the menu. The guy who took my order mentioned they didn't actually have those, but offered me some packets of spicy seasoning, which I ended up having to request again when I got my order. What struck this place so far down on the review were the staff and the availability of condiments. Everyone there was slow and sullen. I waited quite a while for someone to take my order, almost as if they were seeing who drew the short straw. This was despite all three employees making eye contact with me. Finally. The condiments. Non existent. I thought Mickey Ds was the worst about making condiments unavailable, but this Golden Chick takes the cake. There were napkins and straws available and that was about it. There were also two nasty, filthy bottles of generic food service brand ketchup around, but I was almost scared to try them. No sweetener for the tea. And basically nothing else. Chick-Fil-A and Chicken Express make almost condiments available for yourself. Here, you don't even know what they have and the staff sure doesn't want you to know nor do they make you feel welcome. This experience is a perfect example of why Golden Chick seems to only be in small towns with limited options or the worse parts of larger cities. Shhhh. Don't tell, but Golden Chick does more than delicious, crispy chicken tenders with soft yeast rolls and peppery gravy for dipping. I had no idea they also offered excellent Southern fried, cornmeal-battered catfish fillets! Oh, I am so happy! This East Texas girl misses some good Southern-style catfish. Now I have my place to get a quick fix as I'm driving through from Austin to Houston. If you aren't into crispy tenders or catfish, you have the option of roasted chicken pieces, traditional fried chicken pieces, salads, and traditional sides. We bought a 8 piece meal here yesterday. We waited 15 minutes because there was no chicken. Took it home and it was the worst chicken I have ever eaten. We through the whole meal in the trash. The chicken was greasy, full of garlic flavor that was overwhelming. I would like to meet the person in the commercials that say it is the best chicken they have ever had. Yuck. I moved to Elgin in November 19', I have tried this golden chick three times and I have to say that all three times have been bad. All three times they were out of the spice seasoning and two out of three they have not had honey. The chicken I get is just not good at all. Today my tenders have a dry texture as if they have just been sitting all day long, as they did the times before. I also got the new "Big and Golden" chicken sandwich and wow. It reminded me of something you would get in a middle school cafeteria. Driving to Houston and needed a bite to eat. Went through the drive thru, ordered a 4 piece spicy chicken tenders. There was no spice, instead they give you spice packets. How can you call it spicy if it isn't served that way? The chicken does taste good, hence the 3 stars. The packaging is not conducive to eating out of. Everything is stacked in and it just doesn't work. There were no napkins _ it's drive thru, so that should be a given to include napkins. Elgin facility Sunday noon 3/31/19. Young girl seems annoyed at having to take anyone's order. I point to the menu board and place a 'to go' order for the 5 piece fish lunch where the fish, SLAW, roll and drink are pictured. Atop the board a statement says each order includes one side. I ask to substitute mashed potatoes for the drink and then order additional sides of dirty rice, okra and a roll. While my order appears to be complete the girl begins waiting on another customer. Noticing, a male employee asks if mine is ready and she says it is. I ask if she is sure and she says yes. After driving home across town, I discover slaw has been omitted. Returning, I advise of the shortage. The girl says I didn't order slaw and if I wanted it I'd have to pay for it. I argue I had already paid for it but she doesn't budge. I then ask to talk to someone else. A women comes out and the girl pleads her case to to the woman IN SPANISH. The woman also refuses to accept my reasoning and suggests I take my case up with 'corporate'. That's when I lose it and make a big fuss (for which I am embarrassed and apologize to all concerned). I pay (again) for the slaw and leave. Employee turnover and poor customer service has gotten worse in the years I've traded at this facility. He said ok, repeated the order back to me. Correct. Then I get to the window and receive my order and I asked did you put extra ranch in my bag? It was 9:05 on a Monday I'm new to town and don't know the hours of golden chick...there is a neon sign blinking drive thru open so I decided to give it a try. I still don't know there hours of operation and if they were closed that's no big deal, I pull up to the drive thru where a girl who sounds very annoyed yells "WE'RE ABOUT TO CLOSE" I own a small business and I run it myself for this very reason, if they where closed or where closing all ya have to say is "I'm sorry we're closed" my 1 star is solely based on customer service I have not and will not ever eat here. I hope the owner or manager of this place sits down and goes over the proper way to address customers at closing time....they shouldn't have to though it's common sense. As many times as I have been for other times and the convenient location; this time I was very disappointed with the "flat service" received. I ordered my 10-15 piece meal and was never asked if I wished gravy added to my potatoes or not...Being that not everyone likes gravy and is always asked the option when dining in/take out before it is smothered with such "slop". Also, the server was not as friendly as accustomed. Yes, fast food is a convenience and not as formal as dining in a restaurant, yet should just be as fairly welcoming and some attention to likes/dislikes before assumption that everyone likes their food smothered with all kinds of concoctions as the "norm"...our uniqueness is what makes it interesting and thriving...I know I will not go there again (no matter the convenience and cost). Sad that this small town is losing its "friendliness with so much growth".
