The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are higher than those of big chains, which is expected. The issue is with the owner, Gregg Goldberg. On multiple visits, he stepped in and interrupted conversations I was having with staff, often in a dismissive and unhelpful way. It disrupted the interaction and made the experience unnecessarily uncomfortable. For example, I was asking about a hex key for my fridge handle. A staff member was explaining that the connection was worn out, and I was clarifying whether I could still get a key that fits the socket. At that point, Mr. Goldberg stepped in and said, "we're not doing repairs," which wasn't what I was asking. Similar interruptions have happened 2-3 times, so it doesn't feel like a one-off. read more

I'm just visiting and was quite unprepared for the amount of snow that was dumped on Tarrytown. I didn't want to drive far but found the most helpful hardware store right in downtown Tarrytown, Goldberg Hardware. I was able to park right in front of the store. Kudos to the Department of Public Works for EXCELLENT snow removal on the side streets -- enabling parking. I called the day before to make sure I could pick up all the things that I would need to bring back home. I live in Maryland and we were hit with 6 inches of snow with a 4 inch layer of ICE on top. I will need to break the ice before I can clean my parking spot and front walk way. The guys at Goldbergs gave me advice on what i might need. As I browsed the store, I found extra gloves and that weird adapter that I've been looking everywhere for. Sorry -- Amazon, I would rather buy local! They even helped me get my things to the car. If you are local to Tarrytown --- check out Goldbergs Hardware. I could have spent 2 hours looking around Home Depot and not finding what I need --- instead I was in and out in 11 minutes and couldn't be happier. KUDOS... reasonable prices, good quality and they are more than willing to give you advice and help. You know it's reasonable when the guy in front of you is a contractor. read more

Goldberg Hardware - Goldberg's Hardware 63 Main Street Tarrytown, NY They definitely give you more help than Home Depot! - Hardware Stores Near Me - Tarrytown, New York

Great local walkable hardware store. Saves a drive to box stores when you need small stuff. Prices are moderate; they tend to stock higher end brands and don't always have a cheap/off-label option. read more

Really good hardware stores, are more than a nice-to-have, they're a necessity. Located on Main St, parking can be difficult at times but that's the biggest drawback. Goldberg's has just about every hardware necessity you could need; paint, tools, keys, wood glue, they got it all. Service is great as everyone working here is family and this actually cares about what they're doing. I didn't have any big questions when I was there, but I heard them helping others and they clearly know what they're talking about. Prices are reasonable. I'll take this any day over sorting through a gigantic warehouse of shit with people who don't want to be there. Local hardware stores are a godsend, and this is no exception. read more

great service, thank you for helping us to get our exterior screws sent. We appreciate your service, and will be back!

Came in looking for an Allen wrench for my boyfriends bike (urgently needed to get home) and they refused to show us singular allen wrenches even though they had full stock. They refused service for an individual wrench. I went in after my boyfriend came out disappointed and told them the issue and they said they can not help us because they don't know the size even though the bike was right out front. A man then tried to mansplain to me that i cant see the difference between two allen wrench sizes and when I said of course you can see the difference in size, i then told him I will pay you whatever for just one can you just show us please. finally one man told me to bring in my bike and while i bought it in the other told me to take it out and I had to assure him his partner told me to bring it in. He then told me to not bring the bike in further, im not allowed. All that for a $3 purchase which I was reminded I had to pay for multiple times. ‍‍And yes they were individually barcoded so they were intended for individual purchase they just didnt want to sell to us, not to mention we were watched like hawks. I don't understand how some people are getting money in a meter (which sounds amazing) and me and my partner were treated like this. Maybe a terrible day I caught them? Fyi Ive never left a bad review before and I feel awful doing it but it was a bad experience and its been weighing heavy on how I feel in this community. Especially when they said they wouldn't look at my bike but i see people are getting money in meters and such?? So now I know they just didn't care to help with our bike situation. read more

Don't waste your time here (or the store's time) if you plan on asking a question or if you aren't spending over a hundred dollars, especially if you're female. If you make repeat purchases for small items like crazy glue, hand tools, cleaning products, screws, etc., they label you as a problem customer behind your back, even if you've cumulatively spent hundreds and probably thousands at their store over several years. Even though they pretend to be friendly, helpful and nice to your face, they can't stand customers that frequently make smaller purchases and say nasty things about these customers behind their back. I understand that small businesses have high overhead, but the employees there never seem to be so busy, or engaged in tasks like restocking or pricing, that might make ringing up a smaller purchase a huge imposition - but apparently this is how they see it. I used to purposefully shop at Goldberg's, because I thought it was important to support small businesses, but then I learned how they really feel about their local customers, who aren't professional contractors buying in bulk; although I also don't understand why contractors would ever restock at Goldberg's, because they are so overpriced. They also don't carry that wide a selection of products and most of the higher quality or specialized tools and hardware that I've purchased have been from Amazon or at Home Depot or Lowe's. I hope the community learns the truth about how mean, arrogant, and seemingly sexist the men who work there are - i.e. they also seem to think women are unintelligent, vapid beings that should go nowhere near the tools and hardware they sell. For all their arrogance, they also don't always give complete or correct information about their products and have sold me tools that didn't work in the way they said they would. For instance, I purchased an overpriced right angle drill bit that an employee assured me would work with magnetic bits and it didn't. read more

A very friendly neighborhood small business that I love to support. The men behind the counter are great, helpful, and quick with a quip. They've been in the neighborhood forever! read more

Perfect place. Open early, guys are helpful and knowledgeable. They have everything you need. I never go to Home Depot anymore since I moved to Tarrytown. Convenient location and it's always a pleasure going in. Smiles, good energy and great service! read more

Had a great experience each time I went to Goldberg hardware. The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. They helped me pick out the perfect color paint to refinish some large frames I needed to match new furniture. They spent so much time explaining the process, which tools I would need and the different finishes of paint. I'm so grateful to have local small businesses such as this! read more

I stopped in yesterday to pick up a couple of small things, and you would have thought I was in there spending a boatload of money. I got wonderful, helpful attention. This is a great local hardware store. Support your local small business! read more

I am a homeowner who likes to fix things myself when I can. By profession I am a doctor, so I am not trained as a home mechanic. That's why I like Goldberg. Anytime I have a home repair problem I can stop in and one of the guys can't tell me how to go about fixing it. The crew is knowledgeable, friendly, and go out of their way to help a customer. This is the old-fashioned hardware store of my childhood, and I love it! read more

Goldberg is the best hardware store I've ever been to since the hardware store in Laguna Beach, CA that I used to go to with my dad. The people are so friendly and helpful. They even fixed a broken antique lamp of mine that I brought in for help, even though it is not part of their business! It made my day to see it works again. I buy all my seeds, fertilizers, paints, and household items there. Thank you Goldberg Hardware! read more

Great service. I walked in just the other day for gardening supplies and miscellaneous hardware. As soon as I walked in they asked if I needed help. Such a pleasant change of pace from the Orange store. I was in and out with in minutes. It's a great local store. read more

While they didn't have what I needed, the gentleman brainstormed all the places I might find such a thing. My new keys were cut quickly and worked fine. The upstairs is all blinds and other custom finish type things. I only remove a star because a table clamp seems standard. Nice staff, old fashioned hardware store feel. Closed Sundays. read more

Always courteous - they have a wide selection of items it would take hours to find in a big box store. Prices are reasonable.

The gentleman here was so kind and helpful. He was very patient as I browsed. He answered all of my questions. Great service. Great local business. read more

Was not impressed with the gentleman behind the register. Went in looking for screws for hinge plates and when I asked where they were located he said "over there by the screws". Instead of walking over and helping me (like any proud employee or business owner would do) he proceeded to tell me to "go left, keep going left, more left" in a very snobby condescending tone. At no point did he offer any assistance other than a vague area of where they might be located. Very disappointed with my first and only visit there. Hopefully others have a better experience. read more

Amazing how much is crammed in here. Guys are super helpful and knowledgeable. Best purchase so far was a Weber grill. Same price as everywhere else, but the deliver it and put it together. read more

The local hardware store lives! Forget Home Depot, leave it to Greg and company to help you solve any of the nightmare challenges of home repair. Helpful, handy and you don't end up buy a 40 lb bag of anything you don't need. read more

Goldberg hardware is why local hardware stores still exist. Walk in, say what you need, and get it. If they don't have it, they will order it. If you need it now, they will tell you where to get it. Exceptional service. Helpful, knowledgable staff. They will even put money in your parking meter for you. They still deliver (if you are local), and will always carry out the heavy stuff for you. I can't say it enough, this is a great hardware store that reminds you what customer service used to be. read more

I LOVE THIS STORE!!!!!!! This store is incredible. When I first went into this store I had memories of of my childhood, it smells like an old time hardware store. That smell is so nostalgic, it brings me back and I rememeber going to the local hardware store with my grandfather, and my father, and it makes me smile. It is amazing what smells do for you. They have a little bit of EVERYTHING. I bought a grill and they not only got to my house before I got home BUT they delivered it for FREE and assembled it too. They have a guzillion colors from Benjamin Moore and I finally started my own garden, they had basil, rosemary, dill, cilantro.............you name it, they have it! And if they don't have it, they'll order it for you. One on one customer service is priceless today, and I didn't get that at Lowes or Home Depot EVER! read more

I'm shocked by the review by Ricky R. The people who work in this store are incredibly helpful and friendly. They will spend time with you, even when it's something that ends up costing only a dollar. Their customer service can't be beat. read more

I am very disappointed with Goldberg's Hardware. They sold me a bill of goods! I bought LED lightbulbs and within three months, they blew out. These bulbs are supposed to last TEN years! When I called to find out what they could do about this, they told me I had to buy NEW bulbs since these were months old! Imagine that! I am very disappointed in their response. Honestly, for a business in Tarrytown that has been around so long, customer service is seriously lacking. I will not go back to Goldberg Hardware. read more

Ever walked into a store and not knowing the part of something you need to replace a plumbing fixture or hardware part because you know you can DIY and getting a tip or two on how to do it? I find that I enjoy going to Goldberg Hardware because the people that work there are friendly, polite, and incredibly helpful. I wish I could give no stars but I couldn't. Went here and never again. There is a horrible selection, but the worst part about it is that the staff seems just miserable. They are completely unhelpful but are above all RUDE!! I don't understand why anybody would go there with a fully stocked Home Depot just around the corner in Elmsford. Save your time and go to Home Depot because you'll probably end up going there anyway. read more

This is a great store. I tried going to a chain store and didn't receive any help. I then stumbled across this store a few towns from where I live. Needless to stay, I am never ever going back to that big orange chain store. The people here are helpful and always willing to answer any questions that I have. It is nice to see that some places still pride themselves on customer service. I love Golberg's!! read more

I recently moved to this area and needed a drain for my bathtub and special light bulb. After not having much success with the drains purchased online on Amazon, I decided to give this hardware store a try. When I was at the store, I needed to know the size of my drain and called my roommate twice to ask her for a photo of the drain and for her input after looking at my options. When I was checking out, the total was under $10, and the other man working at the store made a nasty, uncalled for comment saying "that's a lot of thought for such a small purchase." He's really lucky I left my ghetto side back in the city or he would have gotten hurt. Sorry I rather not waste anymore time and money on drains that don't fit. I HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF LIKE A GRADUATE EDUCATION TO MAKE MYSELF MORE OPEN MINDED AND UNDERSTANDING. Something this guy clearly would have benefited from. Loan for my education or loans for more unnecessary drains and light bulbs AND time taken away from my studies. My time is valuable, so yes, I rather put more thought into finding the right item. I prefer not to spend the very little down time I have testing out drains. For sure got my priorities straight. I'll never return again. First and last time. read more
