A family owned store with a staff that will go out of their way to find what you are looking for. The staff is so knowledgeable and they tend to the customers right away. The owner "Billy" has a huge sense of humor and his Wife is just as sweet as he is fun. This has been my go to store for the last decade, I prefer it to the big HD nearby that is the polar opposite. And they are very knowledgeable when it comes to advice on the house which really helps when you have a home that was built in 1920, their advice is always spot on. Walked in first thing this morning and asked if they carried doorstops. "Can you be any more vague?" the owner (I assume) responded snidely. I can't imagine how he must respond to people who don't know the name of what they're asking for. All previous interactions (with staff) had been fine so willing to give the benefit of the doubt here but also hope he understands this kind of attitude drives people to Amazon read more

These guys are great! It's so nice to have an old-style neighborhood hardware store with knowledgeable staff and a good selection of tools and materials. What sets these guys apart is that they care. I've never had a problem getting help at this store, and the people behind the counter have always taken the time to figure out what I'm trying to do and whether they have the parts that I need. Do they always have the part? No, it's not Home Depot. They don't have 10,000 square feet of space and their selection is thus more limited. But they often have what I need, and where they don't they're up front about it. I'm very glad to have this store in my neighborhood and it's definitely my first stop for any home improvement project. read more

It's so useful to have a nice (and non-chain) hardware store nearby. Our realtor gave us a gift certificate here and when I brought it in the guy just wrote on the back how much I spent. Another example of me feeling like Dorothy. You're not in NYC anymore Jess! The hardware store sent someone to change our locks and we needed one lock entirely replaced. It was so expensive but I guess a necessity when buying a new house. The guy was so nice and talked me through what I wanted him to do given my cluelessness about what he was doing (I want one key to open all these doors and this deadbolt sucks so do I have any options there?). I will definitely treat this place as my go to for small items. Not sure about big things like a snow blower or lawn mower. Sometimes the chain stores win, oof. read more

Wise Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - Pelham, New York

I've been coming here for a few months now and it is such a breath of fresh air from being stuck in bowels of certain home repair limbo, I mean a certain depot for home goods that will remain nameless. Instead of having to chase someone down who could possibly maybe sort of help me find the person who could maybe help me... its different at this local hardware store. I enter the store and within 2 minutes someone has come up to me and asked if I needed help, and generally solve my problem within 5 minutes and I'm on my way with exactly what I need (not a box of nails when I only need 1 or 2 because "thats how they sell them" or a pipe saw I'm only going to use once) finishing my project shortly thereafter. Wise has converted me shopping at the local hardware stores from now on, my final bill may be a few dollars more than if I went to a certain big box store but I save so much time both shoping and completing my projects that I think it is completely worth it. I'd highly recommend giving this place a shot if you need help with a d.i.y home repair project. read more

This family run hardware store has been a staple in Pelham for many years. The owner Billy is extremely knowledgeable and helpful from anything to home improvement projects to getting the correct tools to use for any job. You really get the customer service and attention that is missing from commercial and corporate hardware stores. The friendless of the staff, sound insight and immense knowledge which comes with 30+ years of experience are the reasons I keep coming back. 10/10 would highly recommend. read more

I confess that I forget about this place and go to the local orange big box store. But recently I was looking for a specialty laundry product that I've been getting on Amazon. I decided to look locally and after many phone calls, I called here. The guy who answered quickly and abruptly said they didn't carry the product I was looking for - no alternatives, no nothing - goodbye. He seemed to be relying on memory as there was no time for him to have looked it up on any computer - he answered so fast! So I get online again and find I can get it on DoItBest.com and that they ship to THIS STORE! When, in a couple days, I get my item at Wise, I mention that I didn't know they offered this service with DoItBest.com (I was intending to give a compliment because I appreciated that I could "buy" it through Wise) but the woman who checks me out kinda scolds me, saying that they carry this item! Hmmmm. Not really my fault and I came away feeling bad. Regardless, I like this store because I've found some speciality items that I couldn't find at the big boxes and I love the idea of a neighborhood hardware store. Kinder service would help, though. read more

I just discovered this store in a desperate search for a specific type of screw (both ends are a screw with different thread sizes - I forgot what that is called) - the store on route 22 didn't have the right size and said it must be metric (which it isn't). And he price at Wise was as expected - not overpriced just because it was a special item. read more
