(most of it up here is more Texas-inspired) I was delighted to find another BBQ place on Yelp, more so a Southern on, even MORE so one with ZERO reviews! I called them up and ordered ahead of time. I got the ribs, which were under $20, a rarity for BBQ! This place occupies the space formerly occupied by Alleyway Grille (that delicious, late-night, stoner haute-cuisine extravaganza) You order and pickup food from the drive through. I called in ahead and they asked me if I wanted to pickup in "5 or 10 minutes?". I chose 5! Service was friendly and I took my food home to eat. The ribs were very good and served on a piece of white bread (BBQ bread ain't fancy, yo!). The sides were much better than some of the more recent BBQ pop-ups post-COVID. It was a perfect lunch-sized portion of everything. I'll definitely be giving them another try (brisket on Sundays only). Great food, I just wish they would add collard greens. So rare to find those up here!

In this instance I was wishing for way more sauce to drown down out the flavor of this bland unseasoned meat. I will never go back to this restaurant. You've been warned. The staff at the window were so friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their amazing menu. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the Hungry Deckhand sandwich! The steak was simply outstanding, a delicious coffee rub that added an incredible depth of flavor. It was perfectly shaved and nestled between crunchy, perfectly grilled bread, topped with amazing melted cheese. The grilled veggies and fresh arugula created a delightful balance of taste and texture. By far my favorite sandwich on the menu!!!! We discovered this gem at the Girdwood Brewery Company, and the outdoor eating experience surrounded by mountains was the perfect backdrop for enjoying these incredible sammies!!! Whether you're a local or just passing through, this food truck is an absolute must-visit. I can't recommend it highly enough!! Five stars all the way! I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

The pig meat (pork) was very good: the ribs and the pulled pork were above average. The brisket was A-OK. It was too dry and didn't have enough fat for me. The sides were very very below average. The beans were worse than you'd get out of a can. The coleslaw was dramatically underseasoned. It just tasted like shredded cabbage. The bread was as plain as can be. The only way I can recommend ordering from here is getting meat by the pound. The sides are offensive. I hope they can work on getting better sides, as the meat is decent.

I tried their Georgia mustard sauce and sweet & sassy sauce. I liked both, but was really impressed with the mustard sauce. The pork was extremely tender, cooked perfectly. I did think the coleslaw was a bit lacking as I prefer it to be a bit more tangy, but the beans were pretty good (they tasted similar to canned and maybe they were, but I like those too). I wish it came with corn bread, but that's just a preference, the toast was fine too. My partner said his brisket was good as well. I would definitely order from here again. I want to try the Carolina mustard sandwich next!

Best BBQ in Anchorage, ya'll!…read more I decided to try this spot after Sharin F's glowing review. Check their FB page to find out where they are. Right now, the best places to find them are: Thursdays at the Spenard Food Truck Carnival: https://www.yelp.com/biz/spenard-food-truck-carnival-anchorage-2 Weekends at Anchorage Market: https://www.yelp.com/biz/anchorage-market-and-festival-anchorage I got the combo plate with brisket and pulled pork combo plate. The brisket was moist and fatty. It had huge chunks of fat, AS IT SHOULD. If you don't like fatty brisket, you dont' like brisket. Please stick to that tough, dry stuff that tastes like beef jerky from the gas station that ya'll call "brisket". The pulled pork was nicely smokey and charred, and not overly sweet! So much of the pulled pork in this town is over honeyed/corn-syrup'd/glazed/etc. It came with crinkle fries and coleslaw. The slaw was a brilliant mix of sweet and zesty flavors, loved it. For $20, it was a tiny bit on the high side, but ultimately well worth the cost! The service was funny and friendly, some of the best I've had in Anchorage. I will be back!

I checked out the website on the side of the truck and asked for a business card. I had an appointment to get to and groceries to drop off, but I figured I'd stop back by for lunch. We ended up grabbing the kids some po boys sandwiches to hold them over. The food smelled so good!! It's all I could think about my whole appointment. We stopped back by after and ordered the Denali Fries, Jambalaya, and a blackened catfish po boy. Yes, blackened catfish. I was also very skeptical. I must admit I was surprised at how amazing everything tasted. The blackened catfish sandwich was really good. The bread they use is so soft and chewy. The fish is flavorful and moist! The coleslaw it came with wasn't saturated in mayonnaise. It's was just the perfect dish. It was so filling I didn't eat the coleslaw. The portion to price ratio is perfect!! The jambalaya was soooooooo good. Drool worthy good. Rice cooked perfectly. Flavor on point! Right amount of heat. Full of veggies and meat. Just phenomenal. The Denali fries were probably the most fulfilling and surprising entree. I thought it would be a side of fries just loaded up. No! It's the whole container! Loaded with perfectly cooked fries, cheese, meat, jalapeños, and bbq sauce. Every single fry was loaded up. I low key felt guilty ordering them because I only ordered them so I didn't have to share my food with the kids if they were peckish. No one finished them. I highly recommend the Denali fries if you're super duper hungry. Even if you're sharing. There's a lot of bang for your buck there. A lot goes into the pulled pork on top. And for all of us environmentally conscious people out there, they use 100% composting containers. The containers turn to soil within 90 days. There's literally no waste. The service was a 10 out of 10. Can't beat it. Very personable, knowledgeable, and nice. Super upbeat and fun. I recommend this food truck. If you see it be sure to stop. They also have a Facebook you can check to see where they are any given day and what time. It's a must try. Drooling just writing this.

This restaurant has played host to Chris Rock, Cedric The Entertainer, Rosa Parks, Snoop Dogg, Danny Glover and Sinbad (the comedian, not the pirate). This is where all the cool people go while they are in Anchorage. The restaurant is co-located with Tropical Latin Food. It is right next to the small Speedway gas station. It is not the best of locations. It has a few parking spots available that it shares with the other businesses in the strip mall that it is in. The outside of the spot is kind of dingy, and the inside was not the cleanest either. They were cleaning up when I got there though. I ordered the chicken dinner with yams and collard greens. The chicken was made fresh, so it took about 30 minutes to get my order. They just took my number and called me when it was ready. I am glad that my food was made fresh, because the food that they had on the line was scary looking. It had definitely been there for awhile. I would recommend getting your drinks from the Speedway next door. They have a better selection and are a bit cheaper. My meal was delicious. The chicken was tasty, hot and fresh. The collards and yams, even though not the best that I have had, were tasty as well. The chicken though was up there with the best I have had. This is a decent place to get your Alaskan soul food. I wish that the location was a little better though. I was teetering between a 3 and 4 star ratting, but the food tipped it to a 4. Definitely worth visiting and getting some of your hard earned dollar.
