I started out near Mirror Lake, then hiked along the short, paved Hinkle Trail to get to the upper half of the park, my goal being the Eden Park Overlook. Passed the Conservatory, old abandoned (?) water towers, a beautiful Butterfly Garden, a couple of gazebos, and lots of other scenic spots. It's hilly but walkable throughout the park. I might suggest driving around to see what's what, but then ditching your car to get an up close and "personal" look at all you'd miss just driving quickly through. Be sure to make your way up to the Overlook, where you'll find a "natural" playground, picnic benches, Twin Lakes, and a GORGEOUS view of the river and distant Cincy skyline. A wonderful gem in the Cincy area!! DEFINITELY worth a visit, any time of year!!

This is the Mushroom House in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati. The amount of detail is really breathtaking: circular steel steps, deck rails of wood shingles, stained glass windows, tiled ceilings... of course, I had to snap some pics. How often do we come to Cin City. The original owner/builder by the name of Terry Brown has passed away in 2008. A wonderful location to view the bustling activity along The Ohio River Trail, and a place to gather and celebrate as a community. The park boasts multiple water play features, giant swings, an interactive foot piano, an imaginative play area for kids, expansive pollinator gardens, and Carol Ann's Carousel. Several historical monuments can be found like the Black Brigade Monument and the recently dedicated Marian Spencer Statue. I was on a roadtrip and my family dropped me off in downtown Cincinnati and I gravitated to Smale Riverfront Park because I wanted a place to explore nature and see river views. I explored the scenic walkways along the Ohio, flower gardens, fountains, public art, picnic spots, and plenty of space to just chill. One of my favorite features were the riverfront swings, big, bench-style swings tucked along the water that are perfect for kicking back and enjoying the view. They're surprisingly comfortable and such a great spot to unwind and reconnect with your inner child. The park has amazing views of the Roebling Suspension Bridge and Ohio River are worth the visit on their own, the paths are wide and great for families, and there's lots to explore without feeling overcrowded. There are splash zones for kids, places to sit and picnic, and tons of photo ops.

When I'm into Pokemon go, I drive around in circles spinning poke-stops and doing gym battles. That is when I would go most often. There are nice trails to walk. For the kiddos, there are multiple playgrounds, a basketball card, baseball fields, and shelters you can rent for parties. The best part of this park though is the creek. We have fun in the creek when it's warm. My kids love catching crawdads when it's warm out. I loved it as a kid too. I still have fun, especially watching them and how happy they are. Pictures will always be great memories. The only bad thing about this park, is that they took out the dog park! The dog park was so nice. There was a section for small dogs, and a section for large dogs. My dog had fun and so did I. I loved getting to play with everyone else's dogs. It was also great that it was so close to the Kenton county animal shelter. I hope they bring it back someday.

We also saw finches, and black birds with bright orange wings. The trails are paved. There is a layer of fine sand that covers much of the trail on the side across from parking. The trail is pretty level on the parking side. There is a playground, but we did not venture over to it. There once was a dog park here. A sign indicates that the park was closed "due to reoccuring damage." The sign also states that they are looking for an alternate location for the Paw Park. Rigt now thw area is a giant field. Dogs must be on a leash at this park. Many people were there with their dogs, including us. When passing eachother, people were using good doggie etiquette. People were picking up after their dogs as well. I took away a star due to the amount of trash. There were a couple of used diapers, cups, many cigarette butts and feminine hygiene products. These were more on the parking side, and many were near the water. Across the river was much cleaner.

I visited this place based on my Roadside America App (great app for finding weird and unusual…read morestuff on and off the beaten path). It is beautiful and we enjoyed the visit of the things on the property as well as the view of Cincinnati from the property. Upon posting my photos on Facebook in an album dedicated to the places I visit based on the app, I was reported to Facebook and my photos removed. The only thing I can think is they didn't like my skepticism of their claim that angels showed up at night and built the big cross. I was skeptical also of stones claiming to have come from The Good Samaritan Inn. But with further research I realized this could be true. If they had contacted me to discuss the issues rather than having facebook remove an entire post I spent half an hour working on and tagging, I'd have given them five stars. I did ask if it was "earth angels". That I would have believed. So, Five for the garden itself. One for the folks running the Facebook page. As the Roadside App says, it is worth a stop. Just post only positives or you could go to Facebook jail.

I have to preface my review: you have to live in The COV to enjoy this, or have a friend who has a…read moreguest pass. This has become a favorite for our young children in our home-city of COV. The first couple years we lived here, we had no idea this existed - it's tucked in the heart of the Bill Cappel Youth Sports Complex. (Website, here: http://www.covingtonky.gov/visitors/parks/bill-cappel-youth-sports-complex) The "zero depth" is a great feature for kids who haven't learned to swim yet, and this place is usually filled with kids. There are limited "tanning chairs" available for adults...seems like adding a few more of those would be nice. Make sure you get your pass before you come! You can get them on opening week (Memorial Day) and then afterwards at the city building. In past years, there has been some shut downs of the park due to piping and breakage...you'll notice that the water will turn off every 20 minutes for about 5 seconds...I think this is an effort to release pressure from the pipes and reduce breaking. Lots of fun, we'll be at the spray park a lot this summer!
