Banklick Creek
Leah A.

A great place to bring your kids and dogs. I came here with my group of kids after laser Kraze to cool off. The water on the creek is decent to wade on, but I don't advise staying in the water long because it's not clean and you don't know where the water is coming from, and there might be water snakes and such. The park seemed well maintained-clean and all the facilities were working: there's play area or jungle gym, bathroom, picnic areas with picnic table and benches, and covered Shelter with picnic table and charcoal grills are available to use during a picnic or a function. I noticed there's plenty of people walking their dogs in the park- there's plenty of trash can, but people seemed to leave their dog's poop due to me noticing plenty of them during our walk from the river to the park. I hope people have the integrity to take care of their dog's business, and not leave it behind especially when nobody is looking.

Just off KY 17 in southern Covington, the 43 acre Pioneer Park features two shelters, multiple playgrounds, paved walking/biking trails, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a dog park. During the spring and summer, Pioneer Park is bustling with sports activities as many leagues hold games here. However, because the park is sits next a creek, events are often cancelled whenever it rains heavily because of standing water on the fields. Recent flash flooding has closed the park and caused severe damage to the dog park.

I love this place! It has so many different things to do plus more. It has baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoes, dog parks, bike tracks, running spots, party spots, grills, kid parks, a creek, and huts! I've been here for so many parties and it was awesome! The creek can get a little gross and flooded sometimes but it's a great place!

Decently pretty views even though this park is right up against the road.

Not a bad park, has a nice walking track and good for dogs. Nice places for kids to play, can't complain.

The park is well designed with plenty of seating, green space, and interactive areas that make it great for families, couples, or just a solo walk. A wonderful location to view the bustling activity along The Ohio River Trail, and a place to gather and celebrate as a community. The park boasts multiple water play features, giant swings, an interactive foot piano, an imaginative play area for kids, expansive pollinator gardens, and Carol Ann's Carousel. Several historical monuments can be found like the Black Brigade Monument and the recently dedicated Marian Spencer Statue. I was on a roadtrip and my family dropped me off in downtown Cincinnati and I gravitated to Smale Riverfront Park because I wanted a place to explore nature and see river views. I explored the scenic walkways along the Ohio, flower gardens, fountains, public art, picnic spots, and plenty of space to just chill. One of my favorite features were the riverfront swings, big, bench-style swings tucked along the water that are perfect for kicking back and enjoying the view. They're surprisingly comfortable and such a great spot to unwind and reconnect with your inner child. The park has amazing views of the Roebling Suspension Bridge and Ohio River are worth the visit on their own, the paths are wide and great for families, and there's lots to explore without feeling overcrowded. There are splash zones for kids, places to sit and picnic, and tons of photo ops.

It sounds like a wonderful idea for older kids that can handle all heights, twists and turns. But for the younger kids, it's stressful. Why? Because what toddler doesn't want to climb 15 feet high on the smallest width ladder at the playground? Yes, there's smaller gyms for the toddlers up front but I always see the young ones running for the huge gym which just stresses me out. I'd honestly skip this park if you're with your 1-4 year old. For older kids, this looks like the real deal. It's clean, there's a big covered picnic area, swings galore. I believe you do have to pay sometimes but I really don't know. Each time I've been, the gate has been open and we walked right in. Other times, I believe they close the gate and you have to pay at the building. Highly recommend calling ahead of time or looking online. Clean, safe, fun overall!
