Our visit to this park was brief yet pleasant. It wasn't until after we arrived that we discovered the small group hike/trail clean-up had been postponed. We did a little exploring. There are a couple picnic shelters, a Frisbee Golf Course, a baseball field (that is home to the Highland Hills team,) playground, trails, Gaga ball pit and a dog park. Currently the bathroom facilities are closed. The park was clean. There were many trash cans along the paved route. My children love Gaga ball, and were delighted to see a Gaga ball pit here. Unfortunately, the morning rains ment over an inch of standing water in the pit. If you are coming here for Gaga make sure it has been dry for a couple of days, and that you bring your own ball. Towards the back of the park is a dog park. That area seemed fairly busy. It was hard to see from where we were how large of an area it truly is. read more

This review is ONLY meant to reach out to the audience of dog owners with baby's and small children. It's not meant to reflect on this park. This is not meant to be offensive, but I feel it needs to be said . To many dog owners are afraid to speak up, as they don't want to sound rude, neither do I. I truly empathize that you may not be able to get a sitter to take your dog to the park. If you can't then PLEASE just don't bring small loud screaming toddlers, babies and strollers into a dog park area full of dogs!!!! I honestly find this extremely irresponsible on ALL parents that do this. This not only puts your kids in danger, but the dogs as well. There are too many things that could go wrong!!! Did you know that, there are a TON of dogs that get along just fine with other dogs, but are scared of small kids!! Do you know what a dog "could" do if they are scared and want a person or thing to stay away from them?? Some dogs may just run away, other dogs will growl, bark and snip at what they feel is a predator. You are putting way to much trust in other peoples dogs!!! You are literally putting your kids and these dogs at risk when you do this!!! When you walk into that dog park, any responsible dog owner, especially owners of large dogs, are going to immediately have to remove their dog. Have you ever paid attention to the people that leave when you come in with your kids? Or the ones that decide not to come in and turn around? When we have to leave, that cuts their dogs play and exercise time out and now they don't get it but yours will!!! If I had to guess, there are probably only 1 dog park to every 10, 0000 children's parks!!!!!! There is NO reason that you should be invading what small part of this world they get to have of their own!!!! Take your kids and dog to the regular Park k cuz they are only a FEW DOG" parks out there!! I understand that it's hard when you have small kids and a dog. Please just be more responsible and considerate of others. Especially, if you are a family with 2 adults and small kids coming into a dog park, like really ‍. There is no reason all of you need to be in there. I get your kids want to play with their dog, but they can do that at home. Or take them to a separate area, like they have at a couple locations in the area. Its just not fair to other peoples dogs. I work a lot, and I take my dogs daily to the park. I am usually only have a small amount of time to let my dogs run and get to play, It angers me so much when I have to cut that time in half because someone brings kids in the park and I don't want to chance anything with my dogs. Anything could happen!! Think about these possible scenarios: * Mom and dad bring in their 2 dogs, a baby in a stroller, they also have 2 very small and loud kids running around screaming and playing. Their 2 dogs are going to protect these kids cuz it's their nature. Someone' else's dog decided to come up and sniff the kid, or baby in the stroller. That dogs gets excited and jumps on one of the kids , which scares him and he starts to scream and cry. Their screaming and crying makes that dog think they are playing and jumps on them more. Next thing you know, that kids dog attacks the dog that jumped the toddler, thinking he was hurting him. That kid is smack in the middle of a vicious dog fight. Do you think he could get seriously hurt? Of course he could!! *Another example: There a ton of dogs that are "herd" dogs, like Australian Shepherd's. When they see small kids running around, their instinct tells them they need to get them in line and herd them. When a herding dog herds, they will nip the legs of whatever they are herding. I know because my granddaughter got bit by one doing exactly that. She was running around being loud and crazy. So that dog was doing the job it was breed to do. Was it this dogs fault ? The owners fault? Neither!!! , because that is their nature and because they are animals. As much as we want them to be human, they don't think like humans! Well sometimes they do, I don't believe their are any mean dogs in this world. I believe there are mean people who teach their dog to be mean, or that abuse their animals and they fear a human because of it and will protect themselves just like we would!! Again, I am not trying to offend anyone, it's my hope that you will read this and by doing so, it can help save a kid and a dog from one of the million possible things that could go wrong when bringing small kids into a dog park!! If they park is empty, by all means!! I IMPLORE you, please leave the DOG PARKS for the DOGS ONLY!!! I hope this opens some parents eyes! please keep the kids at home when taking your dog to a dog park, for everyone's sake!! read more

I have to admit that I was expecting a bit more from this park, given Ft. Thomas's tax base. There were small issues that in sum created an unappealing effect, though in the park's defense we visited early in the season before maintenance crews were able to tackle spring clean-up. First, the bathrooms were locked; then, the soda machine was jammed. There was litter scattered throughout many of the bushes and graffiti on a number of out-building (see photos). On the positive side, this park has a ton of amenities: picnic areas; playground (multiple); basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts; dog park; baseball diamond; hiking trails; and a nine hole disk golf course. I think that once grounds crews have a chance to gear up for the season this park will be more attractive. read more

The park is great I with covered picnic areas and decent bathrooms but what I came for was the dog park. I am watching my sisters Great Pyranese for a week and he needs a place to run around without a leash and this place is great! There is a separate area for small dogs and then a HUGE area for large dogs. I saw most reviews were upset that the terrain is so steep (and it is) but I think it's lots of fun for dogs! Lots of benches to sit and walking trails to get up and down the hill and with all the trees it stays really shady and cool. It's probably not ideal for playing fetch with your dog but if you have a dog that just love to run and smell all the smells....this is the place for you. I will also agree with one of the other reviewers, most of the people that come are super snotty. Better bring a book :) read more

What a beautiful park! I have no idea why everyone is bashing this place?? My little family of four: My boyfriend and my two lovely chihuahua's are always on the hunt for a great dog park. Living in the city they don't have much room to really stretch their legs. I cannot let them off the leashes either and this place is the answer to my prayers! Great big trees with lots of shade and It even has it's own side park for small dogs 20 lbs or less. Now don't get me wrong my dogs are fierce but sometimes the bigger doggies can get a little tough. The area is meticulously landscaped. It also has beautiful shelters for parties, with grills and picnic tables. Pretty much anything you would want in a park this place has. This is a great local park. There are newer, better ones in Ft. Thomas, but this one is still great. They also have a dog park that is a great area for dog owners to relax and allow their dogs to get some contained exercise. The pavilions and bathrooms are both updated which is a plus. They also have a 9 hole Disc Golf course that is decent. There is a hidden trail near the start of the disc golf course too that is perfect for really light hiking. read more

Overall this park is very nice. Everything on the grounds is manicured and well kept...except for the dog park...which is what I came for. This review is for the dog section of the park. There are two areas to the dog park, one for small dogs and one for large. -The small dog area is small but it has grass and both areas are double fenced. -The large dog area is where my problem is. The dog park is on a steep hill and overgrown with trees. Since it is all shaded, it makes for a cool place to be in the hot summer but that also means there is absolutely no grass! I can imagine a rainstorm flowing into a sea of mud covered dogs. To top it off, I found a tick on me while hanging out there. Yuck. read more

So I think this dog park is okay. It's like a dog park in the woods, so there's a lot of shade. That's nice. Also, the hill can be nice to wear out your dog. My dog is an old granny now, with arthritis, and the hill isn't so great. When she was young, I used to get her to run up and down that hill for an hour and she'd be done for the day. Now she falls over and slips if it's muddy, so it's not a good place for us. It gets kind of muddy here. Like we used to go here a lot. If I drove past the street instead of turning, Yetta would throw a dog tantrum. Isn't that smart? Yetta is a very smart dog about some things, like the dog park and squirrels. Like I will bet you a ton of money that Yetta is smarter about squirrels than your dog. I'll bet you that and I'll win. Yetta is a squirrel genius. Like I don't even have to say the entire word "squirrel" (which she learned on her own! I never taught her that word) and she knows what I'm talking about. She's smart about possums and rabbits, too. And cats. Like say the word kitty, and she goes ape shit. Well, that's how she is. And she's smart enough to know she has to keep her distance from cats. I'm not even sorry for bragging. Yetta is such a smart dog. Harvey is smart at treats, opening doors, and human activities. He's not such a dog as Yetta, though. Yetta is a dog's dog, with all the dog smarts. Anyway, last time I went here, in the spring, it just wasn't great. The water wasn't easy to get, it was muddy, and there weren't many dogs. I prefer other dog parks to this one now. read more

Dog park portion is a nuissance. It's on a steep hill. The dog owners that frequent there are not friendly and bring out of control dogs. The ground is commonly slippery mud, not enjoyable at all. The rest of the park is decent. The cops like to sit back there and soak up tax money. read more

I Love this PARK!! I live on the same street for goodness sake! It is a lovely park! This review is for the DOG portion of park specifically. This is a dog park for small and large dogs. The large dog park is on a rather steep slope. Not a problem as it is taken care of with wood chips and water runs off the hill so not much stays around. My problem is with the people and dogs that frequent the park, very rude and snotty! They tend to stay in their little high school click so not a problem except when some loud mouth pipes up as if they own the place and can dictate who visits the park. Their dogs are similar to their personalities and are rude and dominating and generally not controlled. It's a shame since it is seemingly on the surface so pleasant to visit. read more

Meh. The large dog area is on a steep hill and gets very muddy. And the small dog area is always empty, so I take my yorkie into the large dog area so she can socialize. Unfortunately, I found most of the humans there to be unsociable and unwilling to pick up their own dog's messes. I'll drive the extra few miles to the Otto Alameder park by Lunken Airport, where the owners are responsible and you don't need to own climbing gear to maneuver the terrain. read more

I went for the dog park, visiting for the Christmas holiday and my dog needed to run off some energy. What a waste of a drive. The dog pen is literally a mud covered hill. Very little grass, more mulch and mud than anything else. Actually pretty dangerous for a dog who loves to run. Mine couldn't stop because it was so slippery, he kept falling and running into trees. The dog park is the main attraction of Highland Hills Park. As most of the park is currently under construction (new shelters in the works), the dog park is rarely without a few patrons, even now in the dead of winter. Other than for a few prudes and their dogs (Steven S., for example), the people who regularly attend actually are all very friendly, and enjoy watching their dogs have a good time. This is a fun park in Highland Hills. There is a disc golf course, an area for picnics and a dog park. I come mainly for the dog park. The dog park is only alright, it is on a hill with very little grass. Every time it rains part of the park washes away, making it not the best place to take a dog who wants to run a lot. Because my dog is more into sniffing and peeing, he likes the park just fine. read more

Just relocated from MN, we've been looking for a good dog park. We found it! Our 80lbs Newfoundland pup loved it. Nice hilly woody area for him to explore and smell. Completely fenced in. All other owners that were there at the time were all attentive and responsible owners for their dogs. Would recommend and will go back! read more
