I have some nostalgia for Godfathers as it was my first job back in the early 90s over on the Lakeside and Moana location. Back then it was "bougie" pizza as that brand and Round Table were probably the priciest pizzas you could get in this town at the time. Nowadays you have a wide range of pizza places to choose from in Reno and Godfathers has dialed down the amount of locations to what I believe is the only store now in Reno over on Mayberry. The big difference between this brand and other chain pizzerias is the fact that they put the cheese on top of the toppings instead of under. This gives the pie a more deep dish quality. It is thick and the leftovers are more easily eaten with a fork. As far as crust goes, their golden style is one of the best pizza crusts, hands down. It has a more "cracker" quality and it buttery and flaky like a well cooked biscuit. Yes the Godfathers pie is pricery than most local offerings but also one of the most dense in ingredients. And the most important part is it is still a great slice when you reheat in the microwave. Humble Pie and Hot Stuff are my favorites and I highly suggest diced anchovies. read more

You cannot beat the buffet prices and the owners and staff are so wonderful. They always ask what kind of pizza you want during buffet hours and they bring them out fresh. Grabbed a large humble pie and it was not too bad, pretty basic for Pizza. What I did like is how the order was ready when I got there, ranch was pretty tasty, and it is located in a great area to get in and out of. I would prefer if the dough was a little more fresh however the toppings were loaded and the large was a pretty decent size. Visiting here from California and my brother and I decided to try this place. We use to eat at a Godfather's Pizza place when we were kids at a restaurant on Oddie Blvd. Of course, the style may change a bit, but I would have expected something tastier than what we ordered. Called in the order for pickup. We ordered a Large Specialty Combo with golden crust, potato wedges, and ranch dressing. It was ready when we arrived. I noticed the place was empty with only a small family there. Hmm, why so empty when they are in an area of downtown Reno where you would expect lots of customers. The current 3 star rating makes sense now. Not a single person at the front counter when we walked in and waited 3-4 minutes. We noticed the pizza box was relatively small in comparison to our usual order at Blvd. Pizza in Sparks. Maybe the pizza is just crammed in there. We opened it and in my opinion and experience if the pizza places here in Reno and In the SF Bay Area, this was definitely a medium sized pizza and charged for a Large @ $34.95. Don't waste your money. The flavor is meh. The potato wedges were pretty burned. And charging $10.99 is not worth it. Expect to pay $1 for the 4oz. Ranch dressing. This may be common at other places. The person named Robert is not pleasant. Not a customer service type of individual. I decided to call and confirm they did give us the right size. I called once and after 1 1/2 minutes of ringing, I hung up and called again. This time Robert did answer at about 1 1/2 minutes. On my first dial and no answer, we thought maybe they were closed. They are open until 9pm according to the information online. Robert confirmed that is indeed their "Large" sized pizza. Done and done, we won't be back. read more

My husband and I have lived together for six years, and we've had pizza for dinner every Friday. Every now and then, we want a pizza that feels "new" to us. Godfather's hit the mark: a thin bottom crust that was nevertheless substantial rather than flimsy. A perimeter crust that is way smaller than, say, Blind Onion's breadstick-like crust. Toppings that go underneath the cheese. It was delicious the day I picked it up for carryout, and it was delicious as leftovers. We got a medium pizza and medium "cheesesticks" (garlic cheese dough shaped like a pizza and cut into rectangular sizes) for $18 as one of their many value deals. My husband ordered and paid for it online, and I was able to pick it up about 30 minutes after he placed the order. Wow, something nostalgic got Hubby & I craving Godfather's Pizza, only to find the location at Booth St. was the last man standing. Having frequented a Godfather's that was near school back in the day, we kinda feel like we grew up with it as the neighborhood place to go for pizza! I digress... I was able to order & pay online, easy peasy. None of the coupon codes I found seemed to work since this is Reno/Sparks only location, and I'd say they were a little over average prices for the size. Hubby wanted the old fave Classic Combo, and for me, a mini Taco Pizza...the holy grail of specialty pizzas becasue growing up, no one liked it but me! So, a mini was the perfect size to enjoy solo. I waited for my "pizza is ready" email, only that never reached me, so I had to call to check the status of my 'za. No biggie. Hopped on the freeway and headed across town for pickup... Pick up was easy and pleasant, and the dining room was pretty empty except for a few tables of people dining in, but a staffer was vacuuming around the room? Maybe wait until the shop closes? That doesn't seem to be necessary while people are eating! The pizzas were OK, maybe a little different than we remembered. Were they always just OK, or has our recollection shifted? I like to try every pizza joint in town until I find my favorite. This is probably the third so far. This location is close to home and I have heard about it before and was curious to give it a shot. My husband called and picked it up. We ordered a sausage and extra sauce large thin crust. And the chocolate chip cookie of course ( insert evil grin) The crust was pretty good but a little soggy. To be fair when I order extra sauce this usually happens. The flavor of the sauce was pretty tasty and the sausage was okay. I'm somewhat of a purist with Za since I grew up in Chicago ( the home of deep dish). When I first try a new place I get the most basic one so I can judge the crust and sauce fairly. If you have fun memories of godfather Pizza then don't go here, it will just ruin it. I've tried them a few times hoping that I just got bad experiences. The food is old and tired even when you order a fresh pizza it will taste like garbage The ingredients aren't fresh to say the least and of course it's time I've ordered a pizza it's like minimal cheese and or topping. I won't even order extra cheese cuz I know they'll charge me and it'll be exactly the same. I guess if you're One of their friends or family they're great, but if you don't look like them, then You're treated like a peasant or nuisance at best. Another positive I can say is that they do keep the high school kids out which is nice, if you go there when school gets out. Wow! It's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant and refused to eat because of the cleanliness, or lack thereof! When I arrived at 5:30pm, the restaurant was empty (strike one). I walked past the 30 year old video games and the dimly lit salad bar to the counter to look at the menu. The two guys behind the counter, stared at me blankly until asked a question (strike two). I walked over to sit at a booth and discovered that most of them had rips in the fake leather surfaces. Some, all the way to the metal frame underneath! The tables which were pushed together to make really long, cafeteria-style seating were also dirty and covered with crumbs like a big crowd had just left. There were so many crumbs on the chairs that I had to tilt the chair to let them fall onto the floor! Did I mention the place was empty? Did I mention there were at least two people working there? (Strike three) Talk about neglect!! The franchise owner should be ashamed! Plus the manager on duty should also be ashamed to have the restaurant in that state. If I were not having a meeting there (not my choice), I would have left immediately. I had No desire to try the food but the people I was with seemed to enjoy it, oblivious to the surroundings. Prices were also higher than expected for this caliber of pizza parlor. Look elsewhere until the management and owners decide to improve this place. read more

Easily the worst pizza I've ever gotten from any pizza place. Most frozen pizzas are better. Not exaggerating, this is a terrible pizza.

Note the COMP was because I had a coupon for a free medium pizza with the purchase of a large. Both TOP 1 and 2 indicate the additional charge for stuffed crusts on both the medium and large pizzas (strange how a medium and large pizza have the same loaded crust price but that's another day) I called in and ordered a Hawaiian pizza (ham and pineapple) with stuffed crust (which is $2 extra, ok fair). The issue was when I came in to pay he was telling me my pizza was $23 and charged as a specialty pizza instead of a large 2 topping with loaded crust for $20. It took me 10 minutes to argue with the guy up (name is Sunil G) front that: A) the pizza I ordered is 2 toppings (exclude the loaded crust for a minute) B) on your board a Hawaiian is not listed as a specialty C) on your website, a Hawaiian is not listed as a specialty D) on your pamphlet, a Hawaiian is not listed as a specialty The cashier tried to further argue that when I said Hawaiian it "automatically comes up as $21 in our system instead of a two topping for $18". So I then ask why he didn't tell me that the word Hawaiian costs an extra $3 and advise me to just ask for a pineapple and ham pizza, that's a dick move to not tell the customer he's being charged more for the same 2 topping pizza just because I called it a Hawaiian. After proving all of these points he was still adamant that my large pizza was worth $23 ($21 for two toppings+$2 for stuffed crust). I told him it is ILLEGAL to charge me $21 for a two topping pizza that you list as $18. Nowhere is it listed that a Hawaiian is $21, I was not informed that a Hawaiian was $21 when I placed my order, and further if the only place that lists a Hawaiian 2 topping pizza is in your proprietary cash register software that I cannot access when placing my order, then you can't charge me more because there is no reasonable way I could have known that. You cannot charge someone more than what is listed without informing them. It was at this point, the guy gave me back $2. Unfortunately, I didn't quite catch that he should have given me back $3 ($21-$18=$3). The guy never showed any sorrow for his error and never once apologized. When he was handing me my "refunded" $2 I said I would take that or you can give me something else like breadsticks to try and show some customer service. Told me nope, breadsticks are $4. I can only speak for the pizza that was delivered. I've never been in the restaurant, and they put a coupon on my door and I used it (it works!) It was one of the best delivery pizza's I had in awhile. Granted, I don't eat it often, but when I splurge on those calories, I want it to be worth it. This pizza was loaded up, cheezy, meaty, and the crust was crisp. Delivery was less than an hour, and it was hot. That's all I really want. We came here for takeout one evening. We don't have Godfather's Pizza in Boise or any other town I've lived in, so I had never tasted their pizza. It's pretty much your average chain style pizza--nothing spectacular, but gets the job done (ie: satisfies one's craving for spicy meat swimming in melted cheese). The service was solid (again...only had take-out). The best part of the experience was their monkey bread: a) One star for even offering the cinnamontastic goodness that is the bread of monkeys. b) One star for the low price of said piquant primate provisions. c) And, one more star for the fact that it was fanf**kingtastic.
