An easy five stars. Emmy Squared Pizza serves what is probably the best pizza to be had in Athens…read more It's really good. We started with the shaved Brussel Sprout salad. It's generously portioned, and it's more than enough for two. Pizza wise, we got the "Meatsiah" consisting of "signature cheese blend, crispy Ezzo pepperoni, house-made Italian sausage, thick-cut Nuke's bacon, [and] tender shaved ribeye." It was amazingly good and some of the best pizza I've had anywhere. I washed mine down with a Creature Comforts Tropicalia as one does. It's a stylish upscale place. Shout out to Piper who provided great, on the ball service. Cheers!

We had a really disappointing experience here and won't be returning…read more My husband ordered a burger without a bun and made a few simple modifications (no cheese, add bacon and onions). It came out fine, so he ordered a second one--only to have the manager come over after the order was placed to say they were "too busy" to accommodate those same modifications again. Apparently the server "shouldn't have allowed it." That's not just inconsistent, it's poor communication and puts the customer (and server) in an awkward spot for no reason. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich that was honestly one of the driest things I've ever tried to eat. I could barely get through two bites. The fries that came with it left me with pretty bad indigestion later, which is unusual for me. Our daughters ordered pizza, which was fine--but it arrived about 30 minutes after our food, so we weren't even eating together as a family. We also ordered a bottle of prosecco that was barely chilled. We had to ask for an ice bucket just to make it drinkable. Between the food quality, inconsistent service, and overall experience, this was a miss across the board.

But.....their staff that I have encountered the last two days are the man reason I will remain loyal to them. The personableness and kindness I received the entire time I was there is what is missing in a lot of the world these days. They are two blocks from the hospital and I was going to stay the night with my grandmother. Both took the time to ask about her, talk about my situation, and make sure I felt like a friend before I left. I didn't place an order and wait for it to be handed to me. I was talked through a menu I was unfamiliar with. And I was treated like a human being. Can not wait to return.

Like most college towns (I suppose), Athens maxes out the quantity on pizza choices, but the…read morequality often lags behind. That's been true for as long as I can remember, because I grew up here and I'm pretty damn old. Automatic Pizza has to be on the high end of the Athens pizza quality scale, though. Enough so that, as I explain in most recent Yelp review I wrote, we'd drive halfway across Athens to pick up a pizza from here even though there was a neighborhood pizza joint just up our old street. Housed in an old corner gas station that has since served time as the Black Forest Bake Shop, among other things, Automatic goes for the New York style and does it better than most places outside of New York and the Northeast do it. Good sturdy, flavorful crust with zesty sauce, the large size (18 inches) is massive clown-shoe pizza that is totally foldable, the way I want to eat this style of pizza. The staff has always been friendly, too. Parking is a bit of an annoyance. There are like three parking spots, and the cross-streets don't have much in the way of street parking. Four-stars-plus.
