Go Buses and MegaBus both have a super convenient stop here right off the last stop on the D line! I'm thinking, "Why would I tack on an extra 30+ minutes to drag myself via public transit into Boston when I live West?" I feel for the unfortunate passengers who described their awful experiences! Thankfully I haven't had any bad issues or instances of contacting customer service. (Side note one of my friends visited me and wanted to extend her time off, she called their office and they changed her ticket immediately plus there was no extra charge!) Their prices also make weekend trips no sweat. Round trip ranging from $36-$70+. Plus I have a registered account and they are constantly running promotions and you accrue (100pts/$) for trips booked! Unlike MegaBus where you have to walk to the far reaches of the parking lot, Go Bus has their own dedicated Bus Check-in building. This is fantastic when you're freezing or melting outside. You need to enter and show them your confirmation e-mail. I have no idea why my e-mail randomly decides to filter out important confirmation orders so I was slightly panicking and hitting the "re-send confirmation" button before checking in spam. They assign you a priority number or queue for boarding. They also give you a complimentary bottle of water. Yay! I never drink the whole thing since I actively avoid using bus bathrooms... They usually stop in Alewife Station Cambridge beforehand so some of the seats might already have filled up! The chairs are average for economy coach. I attempted to use their wifi aboard, but it was so glacially slow (maybe everyone else was using it?), I switched back to 4G/LTE and used my phone as a hotspot. For the location alone, I'd say it's worth checking out. Definitely use Wanderu or some other app to compare prices since you might value other aspects like Port Authority drop off rather than curbside near Hudson Yards. I had about a 10 minute walk before finding Penn Station to take a more direct Subway to my destination. read more

On March 19 at 10:30 am I got into the bus. I was about to seat in the front seat and the driver start to screen in a poor manner "Hey go to another seat". No explanation for why. I asked why and he kept screening that "another driver will be seating there". Which makes sense. I asked the driver why he was screening me and he responded "send a complaint" which is what I am doing. I do not deserve the poor verbal aggressive treatment. He should kindly say to me I am sorry the front seats are reserved for the second driver. Driver for bus 6781 the individual did not want to provide his name. Took them again Newton to NYC and back 3 days later. The bus there was delayed about a half hour, got into NYC about 45 mins late. Stopped at a truck stop, driver got off, gone several minutes, got back on (no communication what was happening). Dropped off a driver in Hartford (picked one up on way back). All just ok. Round trip was around $90 so it's getting a bit pricier, but still easier than going to South Station. Bus was relatively clean. Bus back made a bit better time, but they are rarely under 4 hours and often 4.5 hrs from scheduled departure (due to traffic, but also issues with both buses, both ways). Not horrific, not amazing. Better communication and friendlier drivers would help for sure. read more

PSA : Sometimes buses traveling between NY and MA will make an unannounced stop in CT even if you've bought a direct bus ticket. I ride Go Buses pretty frequently between MA and NY. This Go Buses Station in Riverside in Newton, MA is pretty good. Saw a couple of reviews complaining about the bus ride and that's to be expected, there's always going to be traffic. I'm going to focus this review on the bus stop since I don't think it's fair to leave a review for the bus ride on the bus stop page. Staff has always been friendly in my opinion. You need to go inside the station to check in and then they give you a free water before you get on the bus. There's a good amount of seating inside the bus stop, great for the days when it's super cold or super hot. There's two TVs on the inside that play the local news channels. The boarding is separated into 2 lines - Platinum and Black. You are given a plastic tag based on your status and then boarded based on first arrivals. There's always an attendant to help put your bags in the bottom carrier or if you have smaller bags there's room above the seats. Buses generally leave on time which is nice but there's no control over traffic and weather. Bus drivers have been pretty friendly, no real complaints about the staff here. read more

I am currently sitting on a bus from Boston to New York. This bus left Boston at 2:00pm, and was supposed to arrive in New York at 6:15pm. At 6:15pm, we were still 1 hour and 20 minutes away from New York City, and we hit NO traffic on the way here, with the exception of a minor slow down through Hartford. The slow down in Hartford was not even close to setting us that far behind. The schedule online is completely false. Currently, the bus I am on has been pulled over for more than an hour because the bus got in an accident with another vehicle. I planned to be in New York 2 hours early for a show tonight, certainly enough buffer time, even if we had hit traffic. I relied on Go bus service, not even to get me to New York on time, but simply to get me there in a reasonable amount of time from Boston. This is a stop for GoBuses company. This stop is accessible via the MBTA Green Line (D) branch right next to it. And 558 bus to/from Newton Corner. And I-95 and I-90 highways nearby. Parking. I use GoBuses to reach Manhattan, NY at 9th Avenue / 30th Street. Buses usually come from Cambridge, stop here and go to Manhattan. There can be traffic so the bus can be late sometimes. The company is not at fault though. First come, first serve. You need to check in to receive a boarding number which will be used to get in line before boarding. Bathroom inside but you need to ask the employees to unlock it. Not very clean though. Benches inside and outside. Vending machine and free water bottles. Buses have wifi but I've never tried it. Seats are mostly comfortable. Bathroom in back of bus. Overhead storage for small luggage. read more

The bus is fine except for the fact that many of the buses do not have a curtain on the GIANT WINDOW IN THE BATHROOM and the tinting does nothing when it is dark out. The world can see your profile while you use the bathroom. BEWARE especially if you bring your children in there! One of the drivers went to the bathroom while we were waiting in line where they pick you up in NYC while it was dark out and you could see the profile lit up like a Christmas tree from the outside. I emailed the company a month ago and received a call 24 hours later saying they were "looking into it." On the bus right now and there is still no curtain. Over 4 weeks later and a simple solution to such an invasion of privacy could be purchased at Target for a buck! Very disappointed this company has not taken this issue seriously. read more

Of all the bus companies, I find that GOBUS is definitely the most reliable. I have to take long distance bus journeys all the time and they all have occasional problems, but GOBUS is by far the company that has the least. Because it is smaller than other bus companies, (such as Peter Pan, MEGABUS, Greyhound, etc.) there are less delays and better customer service. I avoid MEGABUS like the plague after countless terrible experiences with them. If you are considering GOBUS vs. MEGABUS, go with GOBUS. read more

My son and another group of passengers pitched in for an Uber for the 2 hour drive back to Boston. Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I tried canceling my reservation because my plans changed. On their website they offered 24/7 customer service, not true. Called back the next morning at 11 am and the offices still had no one in answering the phone. I ended up waiting on hold for 25 minutes before getting disconnected. I called back again and someone from another office said they were not in try yet again. What business doesn't have anyone in the office at 11 am? The only reason they are receiving some stars is because the one time I have ridden it before was uneventful and got me to NY onetime. However if your plans are tentative and might require changes DO NOT expect customer service to be helpful in the least. read more

I have taken this route in the past, when it was WorldWide Bus, and many of my friends have taken it as Go Bus. We all had pleasant experiences. However, as other reviewers have noted, they have been taken over by Academy Bus, and there are major problems. My bus yesterday ran the heat for two hours (in August), and the driver didn't fix it until multiple passengers complained, at which point he stopped on the side of I-84 for twenty minutes to try to fix it. It took over 5 hours to get to New York, and it wasn't only traffic. Today, the bus took an odd (slow) route out of Manhattan. Then, the driver forgot to exit for Newton, turned around in Waltham, circled back on a standstill I-95S. It will have taken well over 6 hours to get to Cambridge, and again, traffic is not the main culprit. A friend of mine was on the earlier bus and said passengers had to direct the driver to get to Newton because he didn't know how. Suffice to say, I will never take this bus again until they get their act together. Not enough outlets, poor quality wifi, and most of all, drivers who don't know where to go. UPDATE: 10-23-17: The NYC-BOS continues to have drivers who don't know the fastest route (we all have Google Maps and can see the traffic delays) and buses that don't have all reclining seats and working power. In addition, some drivers will put on the overhead radio awful Classic Rock stations and not even check the bathroom for toilet paper. Honestly it's not that difficult but Academy continues to prove that running a bus line is the moral equivalent of the Voyager going to Jupiter; the only difference is that the satellite gets where it's going faster. UPDATE: 7-6-2016: I am on the 530pm bus from Cambridge to Manhattan on 7/6/16 and the bus driver took a stop at 8pm on exit 31 in CT. Now the driver says he is changing drivers but he won't be here for another 30 minutes!!! Laughable. This is their explanation when we arrived. Then on average about 50 mph while the full bus steamed and with minimal traffic took his time getting through Manhattan and wasting at least another 20 minutes. Take another bus line until further notice. UPDATE: 08-15-15: Service is slipping. Just took an early 8am bus from Manhattan to Cambridge, and the trip took 6 hours with minimal traffic. Bus driver took an unexpected 20 minute break just outside of New Haven for no reason at all, and constantly found a traffic jam instead of using GPS to go around it. When I called customer service to complain, the excuse was he was a Hoboken driver. What's the difference?! Just tell him not to stop as it's a non-stop trip! UPDATE: 03-30-15: the line is operating on a much more efficient clip and trip time is back to a more consistent time of 4.5 hours on average. update: Academy Bus/11-02-14: Service has actually improved. Travel times are more in line with a proper bus trip not a sojurn to the West Coast in a plane (5.5-6hours). Hope it continues...... UPDATE/GOBUS NYC-BOSTON RUN: 09/07/2014: Just when you think it couldn't get any worse.....the computer online system didn't accept any of my CREDIT CARD information, thus, had to book with some other service. Yup, and I left over ten messages with Academy (the new operator) about this, and other items. Did anyone call back? Nope UPDATE: 08/23/2014: It's getting worse. Each trip is taking at least five hours with no traffic and the driver routinely take a long break in between which easily adds 30 minutes to the trip. I have ridden on this bus line many times between NYC and Boston (well Newton). I love how it didn't make any stops between and how friendly customer service was. I've also been extremely pleased with buses always leaving on time. Now they are owned by academy bus who is extremely unfriendly and strict. I got to station at 5 with ticket for 6:30 bus and asked if I could switch to 6 bus space permitting... I've done this before. They said not unless I pay difference in ticket price which seemed stupid. Why not make the customer happy? It also freed up a spot on later bus. I had a ticket for 30 min later I wasn't trying to cheat the system just wanted to see if they could be a little more accommodating. Drivers are much less friendly on buses now too. The past few buses have left a little late which isn't what used to happen with go buses before they were purchased by academy. I'll prob start to look at other buslines or Amtrak if they continue to get more expensive. read more

I took Go Bus with a friend to NYC on the weekend of July 17. We took the 7:30 pm bus to NYC out of Riverside on Friday, and returned on the 7:00 pm bus on Sunday evening. We got to Riverside a little early on Friday evening. At check-in, we were offered a bottle of water and a "boarding pass" number to get on the bus (I was number 11). They made an announcement a little while later that the bus was running 15 minutes late. Just before the bus arrived, we were told it was on its way and we were asked to line up outside according to our boarding pass numbers. When the bus arrived, we needed to wait a little while the Go Bus staff put more toilet paper in the bathroom and other stuff, and then we were able to board. The ride itself to NYC was fine. It did get pretty cool on the bus with the AC on the entire time but I didn't get cold enough to use my jacket. There was wifi but it was slow. I did need to use the restroom once and it was absolutely disgusting. Though there's a sign that tells men to sit instead of stand to pee, most men clearly ignored this since there was urine all around the seat and the floor was wet. There was a dispenser on the wall and I used it, thinking it was hand sanitizer but it wasn't. It was soap. In a bathroom with no sink. I had to use a bunch of toilet paper to wipe it off and I ended up going back to the bathroom later with my bottle of water to rinse off my soap-sticky hands over the toilet. Who puts soap in a bathroom where there's no sink? Getting on the bus heading back to Boston on Sunday wasn't nearly as orderly. People lined up on the sidewalk on the designated block and a man walked down the line to check people in. However, there were no boarding pass numbers given out and when the bus arrived, everyone at the back of the line pushed their way to the front. I know Go Bus can't prevent people from being a**holes, but the boarding pass number process would have been great there. The bus back to Boston was about 20 minutes late in arriving to pick us up and traffic getting out of NYC was pretty bad, but the driver seemed to make good time in between traffic back-ups. We did make a stop in Connecticut at a Burger King, which was nice to get to use a real bathroom. There was wifi on the bus but it didn't seem to work most of the time when I connected to it. Overall, the bus itself was fairly comfortable. The restrooms are a complete mess and I wish they would clean them thoroughly in between trips, even if we have to wait a few minutes more to board. My round trip ticket was less than $36 thanks to an online promo code. If you're going to NYC for fun and want to save money, Go Bus is a decent option, though I'd highly recommend you avoid drinking any liquids before so you don't have to use the disgusting restroom during the trip. If you need to have reliable wifi to get work done, or arrive and return at a specific time, it probably won't be a good choice for you. I'm giving Go Bus 3 stars but only because it was so inexpensive. The boarding process in NYC and the disgusting restrooms were the major issues for me. read more

I am a returning bus user from Newton to Manhattan , the Go Bus service is operated by Academy Bus Service . The mobile site is excellent , the service is good in the registration office . But the buses are really dirty , the seats are not cleaned at all , under the seat you will be able to find all kind of trash starting from chewing gum , tissue , paper .....etc . I think the company needs to improve not only taking money , but even spending money on cleaning . I liked the service of distribution of a bottle of water , also providing trash bags , but even thru the journey they need to concern cleaning the bus . Unfortunately, there is no "zero stars" option available so I had to give this company one star. I had been using this bus company for 4 years. When I go to New York City, it is much more convenient for me to catch a bus at Riverside than it is to drive to Boston and/or drive to the train station on Route 128. The bus to NYC from Massachusetts is also much, much cheaper than the train. During the last year, this bus company has significantly gone downhill. (No pun intended!) Some of the buses they use are old and are in need of repair and, unfortunately, on our most recent trip from NYC to Riverside, my husband and I had to travel on one of those old buses. The bus broke down on the Mass Pike. The cooling system on the bus had also broken so the bus was 100 degrees (at least!) since windows could not be open. All passengers on the bus were in a very dangerous situation: we had broken down in the emergency lane on the Mass Pike and whether we were inside or outside the bus, we are all in danger of being sideswiped by a truck or an inexperienced driver. Because the bus was so hot, I felt like I was going to have a stroke. Even though this was an URGENT situation and customers' lives were in jeopardy, we were told that a "rescue bus" would come and pick us up in 3 hours. What kind of a company puts its customers in a dangerous situation like this for 3 hours???? We were not permitted to leave the bus and/or call an Uber to come and get us. My husband and I demanded to be let off the bus. We were given our suitcases and had to drag our suitcases down a steep, swampy incline so that we can reach another road that ran parallel with the Mass Pike so that we can call the Uber driver. We had left NYC at 1:00 PM and we finally arrived home at 8:00 PM. A 4-hour trip had taken 7 hours. Needless to say, I would never use this bus company again. When I contacted the bus company to complain, they never wrote back. I reported the bus company to the Better Business Bureau and just received notification from the Better Business Bureau that the company did not respond to my complaint.. I also reported them to the two federal government organizations that monitor bus companies that travel from state to state. If you value your life and your time.....DO NOT USE THIS BUS COMPANY. They use buses that are not properly serviced and they do not care about their customers. read more

I booked this bus to go from New York to Boston to spend my birthday (today) with my family. The bus was supposed to leave at 10 am, but we sat on the sidewalk for an hour in manhattan and did not leave until 11 because the bus did not have an EZ pass and we had to wait for someone to bring one. Because of this, not only were we an hour late, but we hit rush hour traffic and I am now going to miss my birthday dinner. I called customer service and they refused to issue a refund or a voucher or any discount. It's completely unacceptable. Do not use this company. Bolt bus or Amtrak are much more reliable and boltbus will (and has for me) issued refunds for lateness that was their fault. This company has now lost all business from me. read more

I've never left a yelp review before but after my experience with Go Bus yesterday, I feel compelled to. I bought a $44 dollar ticket from Newton to NYC. The greyhound and Peter Pan bus tickets were at least $10 cheaper, but I paid more because Go Bus offers "reliable" service. Their service is anything but reliable. We were supposed to stop once in Hartford, CT. We ended up stopping before Hartford at a rest stop for about 10 minutes while the driver got outside the bus and left us all inside (still don't know what he was doing). We eventually made it to Hartford and picked up more passengers and were on our way. Until the AC stopped working and the temperature of the bus was well over 75 degrees. The driver waited for the woman next to me to ask twice about the unbearable temperature before calling someone. They then inform him that he must turn around and go back north 20 miles to exit 60 in order to get a new bus (we're at exit 85 at this point). So the bus is turned around and we head in the opposite direction of our destination in excruciating heat on the bus. We finally make it there and switching buses takes a good 20 minutes. The new bus doesn't have foot rests or outlets, two things that Go Bus promotes on their website, which made the whole ordeal even worse. We finally make it to NYC at 8:31pm. I got on that original bus at 2:30pm. What was supposed to be a 4.5 hour bus ride turned into a 6 hour bus ride, part of which was spent with no AC. Today I give Go Bus a call to ask what they will be doing to make this up to their customers. Their answer? Nothing. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. They also don't give out discounts on tickets. Even though it was completely their fault that our trip lasted an extra hour and a half. Oh, but I could send them an email on GoBus.com to let them know what improvements can be made! Save your time, money, and energy and choose a different bus line. Not sure about all the negative reviews. I commute between Providence and New York frequently during the last year. There are three major bus companies running on this route and Go bus is the best out of all based on my experience. 1. neither megabus or peterpan returns or refunds on tickets (megabus offer trade-in 3 hours ahead) while Go bus ticket can be cancelled 24 hours before departure. 2. Go bus does NOT have additional online purchasing fees like the other two companies, and even on the contrary provides rewards points if you buy with online account. 3. The price of Go buses tickets are always cheaper than the other two companies unless you buy megabus tickets waaaaay ahead. But then if you buy early you can get $5 tickets from Go bus as well. 4. free bottled water is super helpful especially when I forget my own water bottle. 5. MUCH CLEANER ON-BOARD RESTROOMS! (sorry about the yelling but this is important to me..) 5. Easy boarding: say your name to the person with a tablet and you're checked in. Megabus driver needs to at least see you ticket on your phone and peterpan REQUIRES printed-out ticket. 6. Boarding location at NYC is safe and clean. Cannot say the same thing about megabus, though peterpan's station at Port authority is a bit more conveniently located. All in all, it's a "you get what you pay for" situation. It got me from NYC to Newton in just under 4 1/2 hours, which was great. Bathroom was surprisingly clean. We left on time and arrived in a timely manner. But, it certainly wasn't above a 3 star experience. 1) I got there early and asked if I could get on standby for an earlier bus if there were seats. That's a big ordeal - you need to call customer service and you're lucky if someone picks up in a timely manner. Then you have to pay the difference and the prices had gone up significantly since I booked. I opted not to change my bus after all and had a quick lunch at Showtime Deli to kill time. (Which wound up being a smart idea because the bus didn't make a stop like others usually do) 2) The seats weren't very clean. Gum everywhere for some reason. 3) Wifi was spotty. 4) There were no outlets on our bus, in spite of the website saying there would be. If I can get from NYC to Newton in 4 1/2 hours for $30, I can't complain too much. I have had superior experiences using Peter Pan and Bolt Bus, but leaving from Newton is so much more convenient for me than leaving from South Station. read more

This Company did not do right by us. Both trips to and from NYC to Boston were delayed by inexperienced drivers and incompetent management. There was no water on the bus. The driver did not have correct directions, The second driver was stopped twice in Manhattan. After several complaints and requests for reimbursement of $36!! management refused and phone attendant hung up. A few points were offered but we did not wish to travel GOBUS again. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! This is absolutely the worst Boston to NYC bus company experience I've had, much worse than Bolt, much worse than Megabus, and even worse than the Chinatown buses. I arrived 20 minutes early at the bus station based on the advice of the e-ticket I was issued when I purchased my ticket weeks ago, and waited in front of the bus station with a crowd of people also waiting for the bus to arrive. There was no clear designated line and no instructions from the Go employees. When the buses pulled up (already 5 minutes late) it was pure madness. The drivers had no idea who was supposed to go on which bus and no one knew where they were even supposed to form a line. When anyone tried to ask, they were yelled at to get in line. What line?! Finally one of the bus drivers went into the station to get a Go employee, who came outside and proceeded to call numbers for people to board. Apparently upon arrival at the bus station I was supposed to go inside to check-in at which point I would have been given a pink number card. I read my e-ticket thoroughly and not one mention of this was made, nor was there any mention that more than my e-ticket was required for boarding. In addition, these instructions were not posted anywhere in front of the station or in the outdoor waiting area. When I went inside to get a pink number card, there was no one behind the counter and Go employees were sitting around in the waiting area. When I inquired with one of them, instead of checking me in, I was told to go back outside and stand in the back of the line and that my e-ticket should be enough. When it became clear that I would not be allowed on the bus without a pink number card, I went back inside, along with a few other confused passengers. I spoke to a third employee who said that I was late for my bus and therefore I'm now considered standby. When I tried to tell her that I've been waiting at the station for 30 minutes now and there was absolutely no instructions in my e-ticket or posted outside that we are required to check-in to board, she interrupted me, yelled at me not to argue with her, and insisted that I was late. I was completely shocked at this horrendous customer service. At that point I'd spoken to 3 employees with 3 different sets of instructions - clearly they themselves don't even know what procedure they're supposed to follow. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's incompetence. So which is it supposed to be: a line system or a check-in and roll call system? Each negates the necessity of the other. After I and the rest of the group of confused passengers sans pink cards were finally able to board, I was yelled at by yet another Go employee for putting my luggage into the luggage compartment myself instead of leaving it next to the bus, even though all the other luggage had already been put on the bus and there was no one manning the luggage area. Yeah, after seeing how they could care less whether my person makes it onto the bus there was no way I was going to trust them to make sure my luggage makes it on. We departed 40 minutes late due to the general lack of organization, including the spectacles of one Go employee berating another for putting a couple on the wrong bus, and a yelling match (yes, more yelling) between a Go employee and one of the bus drivers. The ride itself was uneventful. The bus was more rickety than Bolt or Megabus, but no more rickety than a Chinatown bus. It was a little stuffy in the bus but nothing unbearable. We arrived in NYC about 4 hours after our departure as expected. We were not dropped off in the arrival location specified on our tickets but still within the general vicinity of Penn Station. I booked with Go because their ticket was a good $20 cheaper than Megabus and Bolt. Boy, have I learned my lesson. My sanity is worth so much more than $20 saved. Next time I'll stick to a reputable bus company. read more

I have been taking Gobuses for about 4 years now, and they have changed so much! Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. 1) When Academy bought Go Buses, they just deleted my account and I lost all my points, which I have been saving for a long time. They never gave me my points back and didn't do anything about it. Horrible customer service. 2) They now also implement this point system where you can only use your points if you are purchasing the exact amount of ticket. 3) They make you purchase a new ticket if you miss your bus when it used to be only paying the difference. 4) Some of the people who work there are also very rude. Although I've been taking Go Buses for 4 years now, I won't be taking Go Buses anymore. read more

Used to love this company and travel all the time. Hadn't used them for a year and today is utterly disappointing. Expensive and shabby. Rude driver who is too lazy to open his mouth while explaining to me some weird seating rule I have never heard of before. Broken seats. Best seat taken by driver's luggage. read more

In my experience being able to go to NYC and leave and return from Ale Wife is worth any hassle, going to South Station adds a whole other hassle for me! of time and expense with a heavy suitcase dragging in the Red Line! I can take an MBTA buss to Alewife without the hassle of the T. I have only been hassled by spotty WiFi, which can be a big deal if I'm working on a project in those 4hrs45 mins. Or 5 hrs if you go through Rd. Island. But the restrooms are clean, in general, the drivers pleasant; I would say the reservation people need training in customer relations, it is the luck of the draw if you will be treated rudely or not; if I get a rude person, I ask when the next person or supervisor will be on duty, and try again, and also 'report' the rude person. But it is the luck of the draw, and they are clear in their conditions and love the gesture of free water. Sometimes they stop on the way, sometimes they don't, but that also depends on the timing of traffic, etc. All in all, they are my "Go to Go Buses"! and have changed my life in terms of cheaply and easily going to NYC. read more

Even though I've had good experiences in the past (on time and friendly customer service), my most recent experience (today) was horrible. The driver of the bus 6598 refused to open the door to let passengers in the bus past the pick-up time. When we approached him to ask he did not get out of the bus, roll down the window or make eye contact. After not explaining why he wasn't letting us in, 15 mins later when he did decide to let people in, he shouted at everyone saying he didn't want to talk and to either get on the bus or not. This bus company is AWFUL. It's cheap so if you have all the time in the world go for it....never on schedule, the stops it makes are the longest ever because they always add an hour and a half at least to the ride. Also switching drivers mid way? A bit inconvenient to riders and especially since the arrival is already behind schedule due to long stops. I understand that drivers need relief but that shouldn't be at the expense of the rider's schedule. The drivers should have better scheduling. I do not recommend, after a few tries I will not give it another. Also I don't know why they promote wifi if they only have it 30% of the time? That doesn't make any sense. read more

First, bus was late. I had to be in New York in 2pm for a business meeting. The traffic is not heavy as the bus is driving out of Boston and into New York around noon. But for some reason, the trip took way longer than it should have. I don't understand why the driver would choose to drive through traffic heavy Manhattan as opposed to take the high way down. We wasted an hour just getting through Manhattan to Penn Station which is wholly unnecessary. I am now late to my meeting. Though Lucky Star bus is not as clean, it usually gets to Manhattan an hour quicker. Further, the bus left from Newton which is closer to NY than Lucky Star's departure of South Station yet somehow it still took so long. read more

Took the Go Bus on Labor Day Weekend to New York. I left from Newton, the bus stop was clean as was the bus and the workers were nice and professional. It ran on time which as great. They give you a bottle of water which is nice. The wifi don't seem to work, it connected but it was very slow. I was better off turning the wifi off and using my data. My only complaint is I wish there was at least 1 window that opened. It stated to get very hot and uncomfortable after two hours. I know there are air vents above each seat but it's not enough. All in all in was a great trip! read more

I was on the 3:30 pm departure from Riverside to New York City labor day. After the first bus broke down before leaving Riverside, the rescue bus broke down in Connecticut. After over an hour of waiting, our driver told us that a second rescue bus wasn't coming and that at some undetermined point someone would come to try to fix the bus but that there was no definite timeline. I ended up having to take an UBER 30 minutes to New Haven and the metro north from there to get home. I was also on a Go bus from New York to Boston that broke down. At this point the name Go Buses is just comical. read more

I live in Dorchester so it means a lot when I prefer taking Go Bus over a bus out of/to South Station because it takes me an additional 30 minutes on the Red Line. I've forgotten about it and haven't used it in the past year or so and noticed that Go Bus is now operated by Academy Bus. Based on my experience with Academy Bus at Columbia University, I'm not at all surprised that my experience with Go Bus is now a negative one. It takes longer to get to Newton/Alewife than it does to South Station. On my recent trip, my bus arrived 40 minutes late and I had very little leg room (see pictures); I'm a tiny person so this actually means something! The only redeeming qualities of this ride was that I made it to Alewife (safely) before the MBTA closed for the night and that there was a cute guy across the aisle from me. From now on, I'm sticking to the South Station buses, hoping that there are cute guys on those buses too. read more

This is my first experience taking a bus from Boston to NYC and my first experience with GoBus, and it was a completely positive experience. I arrived Saturday morning at the Riverside station at 7 am for my 7:30, checked in with the very pleasant woman at the desk, and received my boarding pass and bottle of water. The bus arrived around 7:15, we boarded according to number, and the bus left at 7:30. The trip was smooth and I never felt unsafe. The bus pulled over once for about 1 minute so the driver could use the restroom. We arrived in NYC and I was off the bus at exactly 11:30. I arrived at the NYC stop around 1:10 for the return trip at 1:30 and boarded as soon as I checked in. Again, the bus left promptly at 1:30 and arrived at Riverside at 5:30. Same enjoyable ride. The locations in both Boston and NYC are very convenient, especially with the NYC one being right next to Penn station. No problem with purchasing tickets or the condition of the bus. My only complaint, if I had to give one, was slow Wi-Fi...but that is nothing to worry about compared to everything else. read more

I have been taking GoBuses for 2 years and have been unwaveringly loyal to it. But I am officially done. About a year ago now Academy bought over GoBus and it has gone completely down the drain ever since. Even after things went downhill I continued to take GoBus because the pick up and drop off locations are so convenient. But its just not worth it anymore. Here is a list of my most recent bad experiences with GoBus - Last weekend on my way back to Boston, when we were ten minutes away from the Newton stop, the bus driver missed the exit because he actually didn't know where he was going. Instead of admitting that he was lost, he just kept driving so we ended up in Allston/brighton. A nice lady at the front of the bus patiently directed the bus driver back towards the Newton stop and then he missed it a SECOND time. We finally reached the stop 40 minutes later only because of the twice missed exit! To be clear, I am not really blaming the bus driver but the company for not providing enough training/instructions to their drivers, or seemingly a GPS system. Are they supposed to just remember/know how to get there?? - Every driver takes a different route to get to the New York stop once they are in - again is this because they are not instructed on the optimal routes into the city? Some drivers take the Westside Highway all the way down and we are there in a jiff while others take the most convoluted, gridlocked and non sensical routes ever which is incredibly frustrating! - Once I got the absolute last seat on the bus (the middle seat in the back row which is the worst) and there were still people after me who weren't able to get on despite having paid for a seat. - On another trip from NYC to Boston, the windshield had the tiniest of cracks as a result of which we drove under 30 miles an hour through residential neighborhoods in Connecticut while the bus driver said nothing about why we were taking these routes or going so slowly. We only realized the true reason when we found ourselves switching buses at a bus depot. In conclusion, GoBus/Academy - update your fleet, train your bus drivers so they know to communicate with their passengers rather than making them MORE frustrated, and provide them with a GPS system please! The only reason I have continued to take GoBus after several bad experiences is because of the convenience of the locations but even that isn't enough anymore. I'll go to SouthStation if I have to.
