Yea the stations are pretty dirty and the trains could definitely use an update, but they still get you where you need to go. They have trains running constantly and we never have to wait for more than 15 minutes for a train. They can get pretty crowded depending on the time of day, but that's not really their fault. There are so many stops and we used just about every line to get to where we needed to be. If I came back to Boston, I will be buying another Charlie Card to get around.

The station is handicapped accessible and they have audible and visual announcements of the next train in both directions. There are machines for topping off your Charlie Card or purchasing a Charlie Ticket. You will need to board the train at the door next to a driver so that you can swipe your form of payment. Newton Centre is located next to some dining and such. No idea about parking. It is on the "D" Branch of the Green Line between Newton Highlands (outbound) and Chestnut Hill (inbound).

The bus was already running 15 minutes late because of the lunch hour traffic per my Apple Maps app. The bus was an additional 5 minutes late on top of that. The bus driver of this Wednesday mid-day route was lovely. He had a kind smile and quip for everyone who got on and encouraged passengers to help elderly folks who needed some assistance getting down from the bus. The stops were in great spaces, close to needed amenities. For example, I got on just a short pace away from the T station. That said, the signage needs updating because while they are in clear locations, the writing has become faded on the route signs.

In the interest of…read morefairness, I thought I should think of the absolute worst thing in Boston and then write my first 1 star review. Congratulations, C Line, you're the winner! (disclosure: I have only ridden the B line once, and it's admittedly worse, but the C is not far behind). For starters, go on youtube and search for "tokyo subway at rush hour." That comes CLOSE to demonstrating what the C train is like at rush hour. Nothing like starting your morning with a grouchy driver calling repeatedly through the speakers "Pack it in people, pack it in," as you are already cheek to cheek with three other people (I know, that sounds impossible, right? It's not.) and there are 10 more people trying to squeeze through each door. Forget getting a seat; you're lucky if you even get ON the train. And do NOT listen to the drivers when they say "doors are closing; there's another train right behind me." They are lying. If you can't see the next train, it isn't there. Sometimes it's 15 minutes before the next train comes. And when it does come, it might be too full to get on. The trains are supposed to come about every 7 minutes during rush hour. Sometimes they do, but it is not unusual to wait 20-30 minutes for a C train from Park Street. And don't even get me started with how often the trains break down or lose power. I would say AT LEAST weekly the power goes out, lights go off, and you have to sit there while it tries to find power again. Not to mention that there are 4 train lines that all use the same tracks once you get past Kenmore, so the trains get backed up and have to stop multiple times before pulling into each station. Do the drivers try to stop slowly? No, they hit the breaks to send you flying in a game of human dominoes since if you're packed into the middle of the train there isn't even anything within reach to hang on to. The stops on the C line are insanely close together. About every 2 blocks. And because the trains are so crowded, it takes ages for the people getting off to squeeze their way out and for other people to squeeze in. If you actually need to get somewhere at a certain time, plan on at LEAST 35 minutes to go 3 miles on the train, and well over an hour if you count time waiting for the train to arrive.

It's ancient and old and a long list of other synonyms. The biggest improvement in the system has been the introduction of the Charlie Card, which is similar to London's Oyster and is a "stored value" contactless card where you charge it up (or pay a monthly fee) and simply swipe it at the turnstile. Easy. The stations have narrow platforms. In many places, the concrete is cracked and stained. The announcements are difficult to hear or understand. The trains are loud and run down. The seating has exposed edges and places behind to put trash. I've ridden metros in more than two dozen cities. From Atlanta and Amsterdam, Basel and Brussels and even Tokyo and Taipei. I can honestly say that I have experienced better.

There is a total College town atmosphere in this station. Hippies outside, college kids…read morecongregating, puppies, musicians, artists and police in the midst of the cacophony of a mass transit station in one of the most chic neighborhoods in the country. History everywhere. Every cobblestone outside of the station has a tale of Puritans walking by, Paul Revere and William Dawes riding by, George Washington galloping next door, the former Thai King busily walking to his classes at the Yard, and of course, the smell of beer from the many pubs in the area. Wonderful and colorful location.

It travels down the middle of Commonwealth Avenue (aka Comm Ave) and ends at Boston College. There are 24 stations on the Green Line, which runs about six miles. A full run at a normal time will take about 45 minutes. Busier times are close to an hour. During rush hour, the trains run often but not often enough. It gets way too crowded. I've skipped boarding trains at Boylston for 20 minutes until there was enough room for me to squeeze on. Fortunately, I don't have to commute in Boston because this would suck. I'm sorry, fellow riders! And as for the riders, I do see the occasional dude offer his seat to a more senior rider. This doesn't happen often enough, especially when the sign says right there that the seat is reserved for handicapped or elderly! One annoying issue with this stop is how far apart the platforms for crossing are and they are perfectly spaced so when the Train pulls in, it parks right over it! So you have to walk across the uneven tracks and still at that point if you are going Inbound to Boston you will have to wait until the train stops to desperately run to the front entrance. I've had several situations where I see the train is approaching but I can't run to the front of the train fast enough to get on!
