Leaves a LOT to be desired. Signage is clear and some of the ticketing booths are well-staffed, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. You can buy tickets here for Greyhound buses and Boston Express (up to southern New Hampshire). Bathrooms are kind of maintained which is a plus. But overall, this place is very out-of-date, not clean, and has virtually no food options (only McDonalds). It pales compared to the train station next door (separate building, need to walk outside to go between them), which has more seating and far more food options. South Station Bus Terminal does its job but it's certainly not a highlight.

Give yourself plenty of time to walk to the bus terminal. I made the mistake of thinking that it's inside the South Station, but it isn't. I sprinted out of the South Station, ran through Track One, and then followed the signs that led to the bus terminal. I made it to the gate at a nick of time.

The only slop they have! I think they should have two!!

Ask the Community - South Station Bus Terminal

Does the South Station Bus Terminal lot usually fill up on a Saturday morning or is there usually space available?

There is usually plenty of parking on Saturday mornings. The lot fills up early Monday-Friday, but if the lot looks full, ask about the free valet service.

Is the south Station Bus Terminal also the "South Station" Amtrak station?

Yes, it's a huge place... The bus station is in the rear and has its own street entrance.

15 minute parking for pickup?

They let you have the first 15 free then afterward they charge a rate. How much the rate is I don't know so I hope this does help a little bit.

First, I thought you see crack-heads and homeless people throughout one (just like Port Authority in NYC).

The five of us were all in agreement we wanted lobster rolls for lunch at Seaport. As for sightseeing we decided to head down to Faneuil Hall and walk part of the Freedom Trail. From the Embassy Suites by Hilton at Boston Logan airport it was less than 10 minutes to Airport station. We cut through the park and headed to the station on foot. Standing at the ticket machine we were trying to decide how many rides we wanted to buy. Fortunately there was a MBTA agent on hand. He suggested we buy a one day unlimited Charlie card for $11.00. We each purchased one. Then we took the blue line to get to Faneuil Hall. Later we also took the SL3 to get to Seaport from Airport station. The Charlie Card was perfect. And every driver we encountered was friendly and very helpful.

The neighborhood has improved significantly since the Orange Line got here but it's still up and coming so you'll need to watch your surroundings carefully as you would in any big city. Jackson Square is fully handicapped accessible with an elevator from street level (which is where the ticketing concourse is located) down to the platform level. They do have an escalator but it's up only, which is mildly annoying. Audible and visual announcements of the next train tell you when you need to get ready to head towards Oak Grove or Forest HIlls. I always wish that they'd do a better job with the signage and directions in the MBTA stations, but this one is fairly simple and straight-forward. They have an escalator and elevator to help you to the platform. I do enjoy the fact that this stop has lots of public works of art, from paintings knocking off Warhol, to some foreign, exotic looking art and some brass faces. The cool thing about this place is that there's a free linear park/playground/gym right behind this place, which makes it a great place to hang out. Unfortunately, there are no public restrooms here.

Seriously, this extremely rare form of New England mass transportation provides mental solace for those of us who would otherwise become quite rattled by heavy city traffic. No longer do I have to drive myself to the airport (or anywhere else in Boston, for that matter) when I could simply catch the bus. The bus itself comes equipped with a restroom in the back, plus complimentary WiFi. Although...the actually efficacy of the latter remains debatable. Most of the time, I just use the 5G that's available, since that often ends up being somehow faster than whatever lame ass WiFi they've got going on the bus. You purchase your tickets online where they also feature their entire bus route schedule and stops, which is pretty convenient. Prices are more than fair and they even offer various discounts for certain qualifying individuals (I.E. military, students, senior citizens, etc). Honestly, folks...this one's a no-brainer and I wish I had taken advantage of this option right from day one. For reference, I did the math comparison of using one of the Boston airport parking lots for, say...a week. I would have spent over $700 parking my own car! Compare that to the 40 bucks I spent for a one-way trip for 3 persons; one of whom got to ride for free because he's under 16. Noice! Oh, pro tip I discovered via pure dumb luck: if you're on a return flight and you're not sure if you'll make the next bus run, purchase a ticket for later than you think you'll need. You can still scan that ticket for an earlier bus ride if you happen to arrive sooner than anticipated. The reason this will work (usually) is because the bus tickets are not actually reservations for seats (this is why it pays to read the fine print at the bottom of the ticket). See, the bus rides are basically "first come, first serve". So, whilst you're still paying for the ride itself, there's nothing stopping you from getting on sooner than your reserved time. Just make sure the ticket is for the same day and the driver usually doesn't care. Needless to say, this will be my go-to method of getting to and from Boston airport from now on. Boston Express gets 5 extremely relaxed and relieved passengers riding stress free out of 5.

It was named after President John F. Kennedy. President Theodore Roosevelt and Senator John F. Kennedy, gave speeches there, to name a couple of famous people. In modern day, it was rehabilitated in 2014. It's a transportation mecca, the city buses travel throughout the state. The famous food truck, Haven Bros. is parked nearby if you're hungry. I gave it 2 stars because it's not clean, has plenty of sketchy characters, and I definitely don't feel safe at night there.

Stops all the way from A all the way to Z dot the area around and you can also find bus ticket machines. It used to be a nice clean center of town with banks, restaurants, benches, government buildings and businesses, but in the past several years, it had gone down hill. It's usually dirty and full of trash everywhere. It's kind of scary when you see homeless and drug junkies around looking at you as you walk around or past this area. Just have to be aware of your surroundings. Back in August 2017, the city announced plans to transform Kennedy Plaza from its traditional role as a transportation hub into a public space which would serve as a "true civic heart" of the city, along the lines of New York's Bryant Park. The plans include new traffic patterns, fewer bus stops, and new buildings with food service and bathrooms. Kennedy Plaza will remain retain bus stops, but much of the bus traffic will be dispersed towards the Jewelry District. The $17-million project is still under discussion. The plan was criticized for its expected effects on municipal transport. In March 2021, City Hall and city planners announced an expanded $140 million plan, spread out over multiple phases over several years. The newest version of the plan includes relocating the ice rink and expanding use into the summer as a splash park wading pool. I hope these plans come to fruition, because Kennedy Plaza is full of homeless people that drag the image of the city, especially to the thousands of tourists who come to enjoy themselves and spend some money.
