After having such a pleasant experience at the Mass Avenue store where we made some purchases, my wife and I made a point of exploring the Nora shop to see what else we might find. Sadly, this store doesn't have nearly the diversity of items that the other store has. And though there were three staff working (two were behind the counter without customers) and one was doing inventory), it wasn't until we were getting ready to leave that the one doing inventory greeted us. So unlike the store on Mass Avenue where they asked if we had shopped their before and took the time to explain the fair wage system that they use, we could have come in and never known anything about the items on display. I will stick to the Mass Ave store. Review #2051

AMAZEMENT!!! Is the best word to describe this little gem. I only wish I took more pictures to share- but I was so captivated by all the amazing offerings, you have to see for yourself. No longer will I shop in big name stores for gifts. I'd much rather support a non-for-profit, fair trade shop to support our fellow humans across the world. The store has: clothing, ornaments, jewelry, candles, soaps, dream catchers, bird feeders, incense, perfume, baby items, toys, salt lamps and special items like singing bowls and rain catchers-my personal favorite. The ladies were so kind, informative and willing to be so helpful! They have a point system for coupons and I also learned you can volunteer and receive perks for your time. I will definitely be back and share this store with everyone I know.

If you believe in the Fair Trade movement and scads of reasonably-priced, unique and captivating gifts to give - or keep - then what are you waiting for? Take a ride over to Global Gifts! My first five minutes in this store had me thinking about how I couldn't believe I had not been in here to shop before. Well, better late than never, right? I found lots of things @ Global Gifts that I really loved, most of them I snapped for this review. The selection here is so diverse and one of my favorite sections was the jewelry....lots and lots to choose from, some very affordable, some a bit more expensive, but all of it with that handcrafted ethnic appeal I adore! Manager Robin and I spent a few minutes chatting and this was also a highlight of my visit...she really did a good job of explaining the Global Gifts concept of working with artisans from around the world who represent over 35 countries to find one-of-a-kind treasures for us here in Indy while supporting the creators of the goods through fair trade practices. I could go into great length describing the beautiful, whimsical and even practical things at Global Gifts, but I don't think I could do them justice....they must be appreciated in person.

I found this small gift shop in Nora Plaza while stoping in for some yummy bagels next door at the Bagel Fair. So happy to have found this treasure! Indianapolis' own fair trade store. This store is full of awesome artisan made jewelry, gifts, coffee, and chocolate from around the world. Found some great gifts and a few things for myself.

The fun and quirky desktop gardens are a great gift all year. Very affordable, Gardens are planted locally. Containers are all fair trade.

What I didn't know the first time I shopped at Global Gifts is that it's a nonprofit that has been around for almost 30 years and it's mostly run by volunteers who are passionate about fair trade and human rights around the world. What I did know the second I walked in was that it was unique. If you're looking for an affordable, out-of-the-ordinary gift, that supports hard-working artisans in developing countries, you'll find it at Global Gifts. I found fair trade coffee, pottery, dishes, blankets, chocolate, toys, decor, clocks, garden items, tea, food mixes, spices, robes, scarves, purses, stationery, jewelry, journals and much more.

I usually shop at the store on Mass Ave, but I was in Carmel, so decided to check it out. The clerks were busy stocking shelves for Christmas when we entered, but welcomed us with big smiles. The shop seems a bit smaller that their other location, but still carries most of the same merchandise. They are known for their silver jewelry by various artists. Currently, they are featuring charm necklaces. An Indiana theme runs throughout the store with everything from Indiana necklaces to Indiana kitchen towels. It's a great place to pick up a gift with candles, art and even some local foods. I even saw a few toys and puzzles today for the kids. I was looking for a funny card and they have a small selection of cards but they were somewhat inappropriate to give a daughter. But they do have lots of crazy socks. There is street parking or parking behind the building.

Everything is very well-organized and thoughtfully laid out, which makes shopping easy and enjoyable. On the flip side, the staff could be a bit more attentive. When we walked in, we weren't greeted, and the employees continued their conversation instead of checking if we needed assistance. Even as we browsed, no one offered help. That said, my son loved the selection and ended up picking out a wooden vehicle as a keepsake, which made the visit special. The prices are fair for a privately-owned shop, though you may find some of the same items online for less. Still for the experience and the unique finds it's definitely worth a visit.

My granddaughter loved their cute gnomes. They looked hand made to me. I ended up buying a long sleeve light grey T-shirt with a small "Carmel" on the front and a large one across the back. My first visit, I walked out of there with a wine glass etched with the streets of downtown Carmel, and a pair of wooden dangly earrings made by someone who lives in Carmel. I seriously could have bought so many more things but I gave myself a budget. But I was eyeing a map of Carmel that would have looked great on my wall. In the store, you'll find lots of Carmel-related clothing to show off your school spirit, including Carmel school sweatshirts and Greyhound gear, scarves and beanies in school colors, and more. There are also sweaters and running gear promoting the Monon Trail! You'll also find jewelry, mugs and travel coffee cups, pillows, bumper stickers, and even tins of mints and treats emblazoned with Carmel insignia. And because Carmel is the roundabout capital of the nation, there are roundabout-related things like roundabout playing cards, roundabout posters, roundabout postcards, etc. The people who work here are very friendly, and I also found out that they are volunteers! They work at the store because they love Carmel and want to help promote the city, which is pretty awesome.

The Accent Shop has been around since 1958 when Dick and Jane Bridgins opted to move out of their department store setting in an effort to bring a more modern style store to the Indy area offering furniture, lamps, tabletop and more. Today's The Accent Shop definitely still focuses on contemporary design, though they have a strong focus on bridal and gift registry items including dinnerware, flatware, glassware, serving pieces, collectibles, jewelry, and a bunch of other fun stuff. This new location is a little more relaxed than was Nora. For the most part, it seems a lot more spacious until you get into the Collectibles area where everything is really packed in. The employees have always been helpful here, though it's definitely in a more reserved way. In terms of accessibility, I'd likely quibble a bit with Yelp's listing that "wheelchair accessible" is one of the amenities here. While it definitely has some of the basics - for example, nearby accessible parking, appropriate curb cuts, and a level to the ground entry - The store itself is for sure a little bit hit-and-miss in terms of interior design. As I noted, this is especially true in the collectibles area where even my small manual wheelchair struggled and had to detour my path multiple times due to far too narrow aisles. I can't imagine a power chair being successful here. That said, the front of the store is vastly superior to the Nora location in terms of space and design. That was nice to see. I also really love the options here. I think the collectibles section bugged me in terms of access precisely because that was my favorite area of the store. From Christmas wares to a surprisingly large (and unique) Halloween section, I was really impressed here. I loved some of the candles. I loved the garden flags. The glassware was awesome. I think my two favorite sections are likely the kitchenwares and the seasonal collectibles. I can easily see myself returning come Halloween. Prices vary. You can sure spend a modest amount here, though there are also some higher-end items. There's something special about a shop that reminds you of the value of in-person shopping. I really enjoyed shopping here and loved the diversity of the items. Overall, I'd easily return and I very likely will during both Halloween and Christmas. While I do wish the layout was a bit more wheelchair friendly, there's an obvious effort here and I'm guessing 3/4 of the store is easily accessible and for the most part going very slowly and with care I was able to see most everything I wanted to see.
