Mike Cento is a true craftsman. He took 2 pairs of shoes, resoled them, cleaned them up, polished them, etc., and now they are like new shoes. One of the pairs, my Footjoy Classics Spikeless, stopped being produced in 2009 so I wasn't sure how difficult of a project this might be for Mike. Turns out they look better than they did when they were new! More support, better constructed, and they look brand new. Mike took a pair of shoes that were literally falling apart and brought them back to life, even better than before. These Footjoys look better than anything Footjoy sells these days! Mike did such a great job that I dropped off another pair when I picked up my last 2 pair. And I have about 3 more pairs of shoes that are in need of being recrafted, Cento Shoes will be wear I am taking them. Centos helped repair a messenger bag that was special to my husband (the bag is fifteen years old and all he wanted for Christmas was for the Velcro strap to be fixed). They require you to pre-pay and the whole process was fairly straightforward. A little pricey but solid work. They called to let me know when it was ready (about a week or so later) and I picked it up. Street metered parking is available out front. They also sell a fun selection of shoes. I have a favorite high heeled sandals that was gifted to me, but the rubber heel came off on one. I brought it in and paid $26 to have both replaced. The owner said it would take a couple of weeks but she saw the worried look on my face, I was traveling the following week and she said she will see what she can do, a couple of hours later she called that it was done. The workmanship here looks good at first but 1) I slipped today on his cheap plastic heel savers he upsells for $10 which offer no traction and 2) on another pair, a nail is starting to protrude from a heel he replaced after minimal wear. The Shine That Fooled the US Navy. My teenage son had completed requirements at the Indianapolis US Naval Sea Cadet program to go to nine day, basic training, Boot Camp at Great Lakes outside of Chicago. even though very young, the Sea Cadets had to meet the same grooming and performance standards as regular Navy recruits. This would include, of course, well shined shoes. I knew he would not have time to ability sitting in his bunk to do so. I took a pair of my well worn business black dress shoes to Cento and explained the situation. Upon picking up my son, after the great adventure, he told us of the story about his shoes. Patent leather shoes that would emulate a great spit shine we're strictly for bidden. During his first inspection, the US Navy, master chief head of the division, was incredulous and in total disbelief that the shoes were not patent leather, and challenged my son over and over while he stood at attention. Finally, he accepted that they were simply well shined black dress shoes. During my work years, I would always stop in and get a great shine and personal service from the two great shine guys always at the ready when you walked in the door. You can no longer get personal service anywhere even in the better department stores then you'll find here. Give yourself a treat and come to Cento shoes. read more

You've got to know that a business is good when you take your broken boot to one shoe store and they can't fix it but they gladly send you somewhere else. That's how I ended up at Cento Shoes. I had a black boot with the zipper up the back that had some how come off track. I hadn't worn the boot in years and didn't know what to do with it until one day I just decided to try and get it fixed. They did just that at Cento's I was happy with the service and the repair. My doc marten inside soles were coming off from the rest of shoe and mr. cento was able to fix them and make them look close to what it originally looked like and used comfortable material for the soles. I didnt realize the former material residue was left behind. Maybe I'll ask them to clean it off another time. read more

Tony does some excellent cobbler service over at Cento Shoes. I live in California, yet over the course of a year, have flown across the country bringing in 4 pairs of shoes and 1 leather bag in need of some TLC. Have been satisfied with the results each time, and appreciate the extra effort Tony and his team put in to repair the shoes the right way and polish them up. Strike one, minus a star for lack of pricing transparency. They don't have a published price list for common services, and the price seems to differ for the same common services (e.g., a heel tip repair could cost $10-$15, without explanation for the difference). The less common services (e.g., shortening a bag strap) are even more of a shot in the dark. Strike two, minus another star for inconsistent wait times. Super ambiguous process and expectation for when they'll complete your job, unless you give them a specific due date. I learned this the hard way, trusting that they'll call back in a reasonable amount of time when they're done, but then they dwaddled for a month because my job got constantly de-prioritized. Also, Tony outsources his shoe repair business for Chase Tower to another guy named Eddy, who is never around when he says he'll be around and doesn't communicate to Tony. In short, come here for the service, but be firm about what you're paying for and when you need it by. read more

You pay BEFORE the shoes are fixed. That already should have been enough of a warning. The first time around, the shoes weren't done on the promised date, a week later. I had to come back the next day to find that my beige work shoes that needed tips, had huge white pieces of uneven rubber stuck on the tips - the work was so sloppy, I am not sure whoever did it knows anything about repairing shoes. I asked them to at least even out the tips and color them so they match the shoe color. They promised to be done in another week. Didn't happen. Another empty-handed trip later, find out their shoe guy left. Good thing they already charged me my money, right? I finally got my butchered shoes 3 weeks later, but, needless to say, I won't be coming back. read more

Horrible! l will never use their services again. I had a very simple shoe repair--re-attaching a decorative button that had come undone. After a week and a half of not hearing from Centos, I called. The guy asked, "When do you need it by?" Giving it is obviously a fall/winter shoe and it is fall/winter.... I gave him a day two days out. That morning he called at 6am to tell me it was ready. Walked over on my lunch hour and when it was given to me, the button was wrong. I pointed it out to the owner and he got a nasty attitude and tried to insist I bring in the other shoe to prove it. After some back and forth, we learned that the button had been put on backwards. He asked how much time I had. I decided to wait the 20 minutes he said it would take to correct the error. No apology, no change in his attitude. These people are unprofessional, rude, and I am amazed that they remain in business. I will take my business elsewhere from now on and encourage others to do the same. read more

Twas the night before Christmas 2011...... and my favorite cowgirl boots I wear everyday were on their very last sole. I could feel the cold creep onto my foot with every step. I could no longer put off repairing these shoes, nor would I even consider just purchasing a new pair to replace them. So off to Cento Shoes I went. I was greeted right when I walked in. I explained the situation with my boots and explained my concerns. I knew I would miss them, but those soles must be fixed! I couldn't believe it, they could have them done the next day! Sure enough, I got a call in the afternoon and my beloved cowgirl boots were ready. They taught me how to care for and condition them. If you have a pair of shoes you can't part with, a pair that you need repaired, Cento Shoes is the place to go! Shoes of any kind- men, women, kids, winter, spring, summer, fall. I took in a single boot on a Monday to have the tap fixed. They didnt even START on my boot until I called in 10 days later to inquire about the status. And was told it would be done that day or the next. Tip: Be very specific when you go in with your timeframe expectations. I will not patron again. 10 days for a single boot tap is unacceptable. read more

This is an amazing little gem just off of the circle in downtown Indy. A coworker introduced me to it, but only because he buys his shoes there....and claims those shoes are of the highest quality and last for years.....like a decade or more! What I like is that they also repair shoes. I, like many, have a few pairs of shoes that I just cannot seem to part with.....like the pair of sandals I bought at the Bass Outlet 10+ years ago (yes, Bass.....I love them) or the Nine West heels that my puppy chewed up last Summer. I was determined to save these two prized possessions, so I visited Cento's. They quickly evaluated the condition of my shoes and provided me with repair options (gluing, leather replacement, polishing, general repair, etc) and providing pricing down to each individual option. Yes, it seemed a little silly when I was spending close to the same amount to repair my shoes as I had paid for them in the first place (about $20-30/pair....bought them on sale), but when I picked them up a few days later, they were like new and I was in HEAVEN. I called around several shoe shops in Carmel and Indianapolis. Being from out of town and only having a week, timing was important. Almost every shop said 2-3 weeks. When I spoke to Tony at Cento, he was very friendly and told me if I dropped my boots off on Monday, he would have them ready on Friday (my flight home was Saturday morning). Tony did indeed have the new soles and heel on my cowboy boots on time. He also personally shined them for me while we were talking on Friday morning. He showed me a picture of his Dad, a first generation immigrant from Italy, and told me the story of the shop. I was so impressed with Tony and the service I received, that I also bought a hat from him. Because I do not have a local shoe shop in my small town, Tony said he would take care of me remotely and not charge me any shipping (for repairs or new purchases). Had my cowboy boots for 6 months...called several times, went in person several times, always excuses about guy who does the work would be in soon, can't get people to do their jobs, etc. All I wanted was 4 white leather inserts to be bright white again. Ultimately was told Tony himself worked on them; finally went in to pick up & they were not done even though he said they were... The white I'd tried to do myself was the exact same; had not been touched or altered, let alone sanded & RE-dyed as promised. Paid $60 for that service & only got refunded $40. Horrible experience; he didn't seem to be sorry etc. The closer I looked at the part needing white I began explaining how it could have been done etc... NEVER AGAIN. Certain customers are in & out.... many are not. Left in 3nd pair flat black boots w fading heels & needed new heels; he put light tan brown soles on...! They were obviously black originally & that's what I explained. So he just put black shoe polish over it. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!! read more

Don't waste your time. I dropped off a boot to have the zipper replaced (it kept splitting after the boot was zipped) and was told it wasn't the zipper that was the issue, it was the zipper pull. Not really sure why this was decided, but ok. Anyway, the first time I put the boots on the zipper split. Luckily it was the end of boot season, so I waited to have the repaired until the next fall. Boot season arrives again, I take the boot back to Cento (as I am apparently a glutton for disappointment - also, this is the only shoe repair place downtown that I can get to within working hours) to be repaired. I explain that I had brought the boot in previously and that the problem is definitely with the zipper. I am told that no, this is not the problem, it's the zipper pull.. Fine, whatever. I get the boot back and it splits immediately. The only reason I can think of for why these "fixes" don't work is that the owner assumes people aren't willing to spend money to fix their shoes. For some folks this may be the case, it's definitely not for me - especially when the boots you are bringing in cost $500. I asked for my money back, which I received without a problem. The owner seems like a nice guy but really, if getting your shoes repaired the first time is what you're looking for, avoid this place. read more
