Probably the worst service I've ever gotten in a shoe store. I went in to find a pair of dress shoes because I recently tore my plantar fascia ligament and I can't wear "normal" shoes anymore. I was underwhelmed by the selection... because there really wasn't a selection. It was ugly, really ugly and horribly ugly. There was one other customer in the store when I walked in. The store was a mess-- shoes/boxes, prints of a persons feet all over.
When I finally had someone come and help me the guy looked like he was going out to play tennis instead of selling shoes. I told him the problem I had with my feet and that I had custom orthotics that I needed to wear in my shoes. He immediately told me any pair of shoes with a heel wouldn't work with my inserts. I told him I'd like to try something with a slight heel, just to see how things worked out. Then, when he measured my feet, he kept insisting the shoes I had on were wide width. I kept correcting him and telling him "I've never bought a shoe with a wide width. These are not a wide." When he brought shoes out for me to try on-- what did he bring? You guessed it-- wide width, which were too wide for my feet.
He had to take care of another customer so the other employee came over to help me try on shoes. The other employee also wasn't dressed to work in a shoe store. She looked like she should be at a backyard party- too much eyeliner and make-up and flip flops on her feet. I had made the comment that I really wanted to be able to wear my "pretty shoes" and possibly a flip flop but because I must have something around my heel at all times that was impossible. She pulls out a pair of fancy $70 flip flops to try on.. telling me they were the best flip flops ever. Ok, what part of "I must have something around my heel at all times" did she NOT understand? She brought me a few more pairs of shoes without backs on them. Clearly, she didn't understand "my heel must be covered at all times."
I found one pair of shoes that weren't too horrible. When I asked the price-- because they don't let you know how much the shoes cost-- I was told they were $160. I knew they would be expensive, but I never thought they'd be $160. I politely told her I wasn't going to be purchasing the shoes. She kept trying to sell them to me. There was no way I was buying any shoes from her or anyone at The Shoe Fits.
I went home to look up the price of the shoes I sort of didn't hate too much online. They retailed from the manufacturer on their website for $150. So, The Shoe Fits marked the price up $10 and is making a profit from the manufacturer on top of that profit. Of course, I was able to find the shoes for $90.99 with free shipping, so I saved about 45% or more if you added in taxes.
I won't be going back to The Shoe Fits and I've already alerted my friends via social media and word of mouth, too. Poor service and huge mark-ups aren't good business practices. read more
