I decided to check this place out as I was wondering through Fountain Square. I'd never been before. The inside decor is really nice. They sell leather goods from handbags, backpacks, duffle bags, belts, wallets, eyeglass cases, etc. And their workshop is located in the back, so you can see them making the items right there in the store. I ordered a wallet and was given a 3 week wait time but it came in less than a week. Everything here is super high quality and well made, worth the price. Horrible customer service. Placed and order the first week of November. I was told it would be a two to three week turnaround. After several emails were finally answered we were told that our product would be shipped on December 12. This was a lie. On December 19, a USPS label was created. However, as of today, January 5, 2020, the USPS still had not received the product. The company will not answer my emails any more. This afternoon I will be filing a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. I would advice future consumers to stay away from Hide and Howl ***update***finally received my order a week ago (the middle of January. I was very disappointed because what I received didn't look anything like the photo on the website. I have sent multiple emails and received no replies. We wanted to get our dogs cool personalized leather collars (because we're "those people"). Our friend had one for his dog but he got it in Shipshewana (sp?) and we weren't willing to make that drive so we kind of forgot about it. Then our friend had this awesome leather purse she was showing us and it was made from Howl & Hide. So we loved the idea of buying local but didn't know if they'd do the collars. So we called and found out that they don't normally do it but were willing to do it for us! :) We took in a current collar to size it and picked out the leather and hardware we were interested in and he got to work. The store retains a lot of the turn-of-the-last century feel including well-worn hardwood floors and large plate glass windows. I love my messenger bag the more I use it. July 20, 2021: My only interaction with them has been on the phone. After calling them for 4 days (Fri-Mon) , leaving voice mails, and not getting return calls, they, finally, answered the phone on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. When I mentioned that I had been trying to reach them since Friday the girl's response was "Well, we're closed on Sundays and Mondays." Of course, this didn't explain why they didn't call me back on Friday, Saturday, or earlier on Tuesday, but I really didn't get the impression that the girl who answered the phone knew anything about customer service or dealing with a non-millennial public. Complete scam. I ordered a bag in November. The website says there's a bit of wait for items, totally understand. However after six months (April) and messaging Christian twice, he said the bag was shipped, yet the status of the package has been in pre-shipment since December and USPS has not received the package from the sender. Disappointing services; especially, concerning communication and integrity. I asked for a full refund on the order since no confirmed shipment date or product has been received after 6 months since purchase. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Do not buy a custom bag from this company. They don't have a phone number, and will avoid you unless you post publicly on their Instagram. I waited for 2 months on a bag that they said would take two weeks, and when it arrived it was not only the wrong bag, but it was damaged as well. They avoided my attempts at reaching them, but after weeks of persistent messaging they finally said the bag had been ready and just sitting at their shop. I'm not returning it because they were so unpleasant to deal with, but I won't be wearing this bag. I will definitely spread the word about my terrible experience as well. I have posted here previously having hoped to have my bag and fob issue resolved but it turns out it won't be that way. I purchased the my bag back in October, much BEFORE the holidays for it to arrive NOT HOW IT IS ADVERTISED after paying $430 for it which is completely unacceptable. Also, the key fob I spend $30 on has never shipped. I was never informed that my bag would come looking different. The owner Christian did contact me after posting my first yelp review (12/27/17) explaining that some of the "hardware was late in arriving" so he "sent the bag out with their old style handles" and promised to fix the issue but have not heard back which is the basis for this updated review. I would have not been so upset if I had been contacted about this previously, to which I would have been completely willing to wait for hardware to arrive at his shop so my bag would be sent out how it should look and how I paid for it. I honestly would not be making such a huge deal about this but as I said before these bags are costly and a key fob for $30 just to forget to send it out? Feeling that this matter would be a headache and after not receiving my return slip during the time that I was promised (December 2nd, now 12 days since he promised to send me the return label), I decided to not return the bag as I just don't want to go through the trouble of not hearing back for who knows how long. As for the key fob I would appreciate it very much if it were shipped or would just like a refund for it. No customer should have to go through so much trouble to get what they paid for. Its no longer the holiday season so there's no excuse now as to why he would have not responded to emails and any kind of technical errors with emails bouncing back should have been resolved ASAP. It sucks that I want to support small companies but this experience discourages me. I really wanted to buy myself a small bag from here after purchasing the first bag, but I will now look elsewhere and I encourage others to really look into another shop before dropping so much money on a business you want to support. Really love the product, BUT left dark on order + repair. Stopped by the store on recent visit to Indy for work and met the owner. I was really impressed. I purchased a number of items that day and then placed an online order. After many MONTHS I have given up on getting the product I ordered (and paid for) or even hope Howl + Hide return the product that I sent in for repair. Current status is zero response and left in the dark. I run a small business and I know it's extremely hard to stay on top of everything on the business side of the house. I am also an extremely frustrated customer. I was one of the first 25 people to order the Mab Graves Harlow bag back in August. It was a birthday present to me, and I got it pretty quickly. However, it was missing a strap on the front. I contacted the company with photos, and they said they'd send me a return label to have it repaired. Literally MONTHS later, I still hadn't received the label, despite reaching out to them several times over the course of this period. I finally just emailed Mab herself, and she responded almost instantly. She said she walked right over to his workshop and talked to him about it, and he finally responded to my email. (Mab is great, by the way!) Christian sent me the return label (it's October by this point) and apologized and said he'd send me some extras for my trouble. I sent the bag back and...... nothing. Didn't hear back if they got it, fixed it, sent it back.... I have kept sending emails and received no response. I emailed Mab again, who texted him, and STILL I received no response. I get it. It's the holidays. But this was an issue that originated in August - before the holidays were even a gleam in our eye. UPDATE: I opened my mail today and--BEHOLD!-- my bag was back! But not nicely packaged like it was originally--just thrown into a shipping envelope. No "extras," as promised, no note explaining anything, not even a packing slip or an email stating it was on the way. No communication WHATSOEVER.
