They kept in excellent contact with our family throughout her stay, and my mother was very content there. The facility itself was always clean (no typical institutional smell) and they stayed on top of medications, kept her engaged with activities, and closely monitored and assisted with her food. No facility is perfect in every respect but you have to understand what goes on there. I've seen the aides working and always using the utmost of care and patience with everyone, even those that don't deserve the kindness they are receiving. I've seen families make demands which can be outrageous. Now, my take on this: The staff is very attentive to all needs and run a clean, attentive operation. I've heard residents yell to nobody in particular to 'Get me out of here!', 'I want to go home', 'Who the hell are you?'. Patients with mental deficiencies are handled in the best way possible with the maximum of patience. I could never have the same level of patience as these aides possess. The food is properly prepared according to the dietary needs of each person. The aides maintain a clean room and bed for everyone and patiently answer questions as the family asks. I noticed that at all levels, time was spent with me to assure my questions were answered completely. I found the highest level of professionalism and courteous response from all departments. Nobody ran from me upon seeing me approach from down the hall knowing I probably had questions to ask. Breda showed outstanding patience with me to make sure I understood the answers and requirements from Medicaid which can be a nightmare at times, same with Elise. Veronica always put me on the right track to getting my questions answered and issues resolved making the contacts for me. Vivienne in rehab made sure my friend received the proper rehab, Lopita and Daria, the head nurses for the ward, made sure my friend got his meds and attention when needed. Even the nurses and aides in the most difficult ward, Apple, maintained a high level of expertise in handling some difficult residents. There were others but it's needless to go on. Yes, there may be problems that occur, as at any home, but it must be remembered that there are about 160 residents here that all need some level of attention. The home does not go into a panic when a resident yells that his drinking water isn't cold enough. The place is well run and much better than the other homes I've visited. If a pretty place and good food is what you want then Meadow Ridge/Ridge Crest is for you. This is a fancy place with below average rehabilitation care. The activities and music performers are great and that was something that my mom enjoyed. However, There is Little to NO communication between Meadow ridge/ ridge crest and family. We requested meetings with the social worker, PT dept, nurses but most items we discussed weren't acted upon. We Requested phone calls when any issues happened or changes with medications, illness, etc. had come up. We did not get any calls except when they were sending her to the hospital. We would leave messages with concerns at the nurses station after numerous tries to speak to someone. We would not get a call back to answer our concerns. After our last call (which was never picked up at the nurses station so we had to leave a voicemail message) about a very serious concern we had noticed about my mom's health we did not get a call back. My mother ended up in the hospital a day later with a very serious infection that was almost fatal. The infection stemmed from another smaller one that could have been diagnosed and taken care of. We chose to send her to a different rehab after she left the hospital which wasn't any better. Care quality at the new place was average on a good day but that's another story. Is there any good care out there? And don't get me started about charging to hold a bed when the resident goes to the hospital. don't do it!!
