This is THE place to care for your loved one in those final moments. Beautiful, amazing beyond my wildest dreams. It was perfect with a compassionate and expertly trained staff to meet every need of the patient and the family. I never thought I would find a place like this anywhere in the world. As I told my family - it's like a top-notch quality hotel - with every conceivable amenity. Everyone was helpful - living angels. I can relate to the last reviewer as my family is still suffering from the trauma of our experiences with Regional Hospice. No one should be lied to, manipulated, exploited financially and disrespected in a Hospice of all places. Yes, we are trying to deal with the death but the anger and disbelief of how my family was treated at at time like this, defies explanation other than insensitivity, lack of work ethic, greed and power grabs. Regional Hospice was extraordinary because the staff and volunteers there make you feel so welcome and offer to do everything for you eagerly. The facilities lack nothing and are kept spotless. Food is prepared skillfully by wonderful folks and you feel like you are staying at a resort. One evasive is its not cheap but better than most facilities in Fairfield County or Westchester. We recommend this place highly. I stayed in my wife's room with my small dog and it was perfect. read more

My mother spent the last 29 days of her life at Regional Hospice and our experience was amazing. Everyone who cared for her was kind and compassionate. They respected her wishes and always asked what they could do for my mom and for our family. The care was outstanding. My very large family spent days and nights at the center and we always felt welcomed and supported. The social worker was attentive to our needs and checked in frequently to see how we were doing. Nurse Mary who cared for her the night she passed is an amazing compassionate person. Compliments to the chef too. We never had a bad meal. The volunteer staff were great too. read more

Our experience with Regional Hospice was amazing from the moment we contacted them to the end. All of the staff was caring and knowledeable, they made a very hard and sad situation as easy and peaceful as possible. The compassion they showed my mom, all our family and friends was priceless. The night my mom arrived at the facility we all felt a great weight was lifted from our shoulders. The staff, especially Martha the social worker, helped us easily navigate this unknown territory as well as providing us with emotional support. Strangely we all felt at peace and greatly enjoyed our visits with my mom for the brief time she was there as a patient. The fact that our grandchildren were welcomed with open arms and that there was places for them to play and have a positive end of life experience with their GiGi was so important. The accommodations were like a 5 star spa. I just wish my mom had been alert enough to enjoy all they have to offer. We have recommended this facility to all our friends and family. read more

I urge anyone needing or considering Hospice in-home or in-patient services to shop around, take your time (if possible), and consider all the options. Do not judge by physical appearance...it is competence and compassion and your feelings that matter. Not everyone cares because they use the term "Hospice". Assume nothing about their care, personalities or humanitarian priorities. My family was shocked by the nurses and social worker who came to the house. Our emotional states were completely ignored and we felt worse and more stressed by them. One nurse (who is an administrator) treated us in a hyper, scolding, bizarre manner like disobedient children. She should not be dealing with families. The manipulative, abrasive, arm twisting that resulted in my patient being removed from home within 2 hour's notice riles me to this day. Such behavior on the part of the Director of "Counseling", of all people, was beyond unethical, insensitive and blatantly unprofessional. The patient and family decide what step to take---not a person we never spoke to before. It was unconscionable and simply not protocol never mind how our emotions were crushed and deemed irrelevant by this forceful "counselor". We never heard from Cheryl Koerber prior to her decision that the patient be removed. The behavior and motive behind how it all happened was confirmed by a former staff member that I know professionally. Always consider the motives of this place, If the census (number of beds filled) is low---beware of being completely blindsided by THEIR erroneous, money seeking behaviors. They will also hold a patient who no longer actually qualifies for Hospice in order to collect more money. Our patient didn't really qualify to begin with but the nurse who did the assessment told us what she was looking for as a reason to be on Hospice "care". It also would have been appropriate care if an in-patient nurse knew how to take a temperature and if meals had been ordered for the patient by one of the many (for the most part) kind volunteers when family wasn't there to do so. Twice our patient didn't have a meal delivered. At most there were twelve adult patients at full census but no one realized meals weren't delivered. Plates and trays were left in the room an there the next day when I visited. I watched dust build up on the dresser and stains stay on the floors. Our request for a simple "quality of life" activity were ignored and it took five weeks of asking before any discussion took place about what we could expect from Hospice. There were zero discussions about the condition of the patient until we heard they were no longer qualified. A room awaited them in another place. Regional Hospice canceled the ambulance ride to the nice place we arranged for and charged for extra time despite the fact that the patient no longer qualified for Hospice. Our family actually anticipating that they would pull something like this and they did. We had to take time off from work based on the original plans and received a call at 4:25 on a Friday afternoon. When I called back----everyone involved had left work already. This was a well worn tactic used so we could never reach anyone with a concern about a message left---always after 4 PM. We made it clear when we were available but calls didn't come then. What mattered was money and their convenience. Be very cautious when a Hospice or place for the elderly uses the word "availability". They legally get away with keeping people or refusing to say there is a bed at a nursing home, for example, by using this word. It is about the money and until they see a bank statement -- "availability" falsely determines what is available. What about the feelings of the patient and the family and friends? We met employees who, rather than tending to our needs, ignored them. A friend of mine was a Director of Chaplaincy at another Hospice. He called our experience with Regional "horrific". My grief counseling a year later was done with another Hospice on the coast of Connecticut. There I learned what Hospice really should be. Regional was one of the worst experiences of my life at the most stressful, tragic and sad time in my life. read more

Not a place for compassionate care or careful medical help. I wish l could turn back time and have my memories of time here erased. It was the opposite of what one thinks of when they hear about Hospice. Unsure how they treat others as they do and are very sneaky about being unavailable by phone so families can talk with them. I wish whoever is reading this to be spared the enotional turmoil we are still dealing with because of payong this place. read more

They have my undying gratitude for everything they did for her. They really developed a loving relationship with her which must be very stressful for those working in hospice. My father-in-law passed away peacefully at Regional Hospice and he could not have had better care or a better ending. The suites are amazing (we had 8 family members sleeping in the suite on the final night), the attention from the nurses and CNAs incredibly caring and attentive, and the facilities very impressive. The prepared-to-order food from the kitchen is excellent - best breakfast sandwich anywhere! My father-in-law spent his final 72 hours at Regional Hospice with family constantly present. When he passed it was very touching to see his sheet covered in rose petals as we said our good-byes. I can't think of a better ending. read more

The Regional Hospice team supported my husband and me with comprehensive extraordinary care during the most difficult period of our lives. They did everything possible to take care of my husband and keep him comfortable. Their excellent care of my husband gave me the ability to focus on just being by his side as he died. This was an incredible gift to both of us. Prior to Regional Hospice, we were both overwhelmed and stressed. Once the hospice team started helping us we had the time and space to truly be together. Moving to the residence truly transformed our situation. The angels of Regional Hospice were a blessing to us both. I cannot thank them enough. read more

Regional Hospice provided stellar care to my daughter and her friends and family during the last seven weeks of her life. At every moment, she and we felt cared for, attended to, and supported in every possible way. The entire staff -- nurses, social workers, aides, volunteers, cooks, maintenance people -- created an atmosphere of loving peace and acceptance. While I'm not one to write public reviews, I am so grateful for the extraordinary level of care and support the we received during my friend's time at the Center that I felt compelled to share our experience. When my friend was visited at home by members of Regional's staff, they saw her level of physical distress and the stress being placed on her mother as sole caretaker and immediately recommended that she be transferred to the Center. Our hearts dropped when we learned that she would be entering Hospice - the word has a frightening undertone - yet what we found when we arrived was quite the opposite - it was pure, beautiful relief. Every aspect of the Center was designed to enrich her final days, from her beautiful room and the peaceful shared spaces to the delicious meals prepared by the kindest and most accommodating kitchen crew to the range of services lovingly provided by a cast of volunteers (music, Reiki and a even spa tub). The Center's compassionate medical staff tended to her every need, keeping her safe and comfortable and in turn, freeing her loved ones to enjoy and cherish time with her. They listened to and respected her wishes and exhibited the flexibility and understanding that enabled my friend to walk toward death in her way and on her terms. The nurses, social workers, administrators, spiritual and support staff (I hope I didn't leave anyone out) - they became family, as vested in creating a magical transition for my friend as those that have loved her for a lifetime. My heart fills with appreciation and gratitude when I think of the people and place that so expertly and tenderly embraced us all throughout this very difficult time. read more

My mother passed away on 2/5/19, almost 1 year ago at Danbury Regional Hospice. It has taken me this long to finally express my feelings for this place. There were only 2 positive things that we experienced and they were a couple of the aides that worked there and 1 volunteer. My mother was there a total of 3 days. She had several different nurses "taking care" of her while she was there. One of them was very cold and impatient. My mother had fluid build up from a pleural effusion and had 2 tubes in her back constantly needing to be drained or she would start choking. This particular nurse knew my mother needed to have them drained and asked me if I knew how to do it. Me, her grieving, unskilled and scared daughter. I asked to have another nurse care for my mother at that point. The night before she died she asked us for soup. We were told the kitchen was closed and there were snacks only. My uncle and I had to run out to the closest diner to get it for her. All we heard about all day long was how wonderful the filet mignon was. I only wanted my mom to be able to have a sip of soup. The last day she was there we were told she was not nearly at the point where she was actively dying and would be able to push a button at night if she needed a nurse. She died that night while I was there. I have no idea what the heck happened. I could keep going but it would run on a long time. I am just comforted now to know she is out of pain. Maybe this is what hospice is supposed to be but I just cannot believe that. read more

Being told that it is time to consider Hospice care are words no person or family wants to hear. They come when there is so much sadness, confusion, fear and anger - all at once. Doctors and nurses do what they can, but honestly, making the worst of situations as best as possible is not easy. But that is what the people at Regional did. Everyone we met at Regional did their best to make a difficult, awful time, a little less painful for everyone. The administrative staff were very patient and helped us understand how things work - to be honest - we probably didn't register everything the first time, but they were great...and answered our questions until things were clear. The nurses we had were kind, very professional and really made all the difference. Being able to just be family and focus was everything. The people at regional were with us and were available. In particular, the Chaplain, Marlon could not have been more caring. He is gentle and warm and so easy to talk to--he really creates a space of comfort. And that's exactly what we all needed during this very tough time. read more

I can't believe anyone would say anything except to give outstanding kudos to Regional Hospice. My wife has been there for a week now & the care and help she has been given is undoubtedly the best. I am so thankful that the staff at Norwalk Hospital recommended this facility to us when my brave & intelligent wife decided to cease chemotherapy & go into hospice. She actually was happy, content & at peace from the moment we walked in the door. The building facility is outstanding but more importantly the staff from the administrators to the nurses, the cnas & even the custodians & kitchen staff are phenomenal. They are caring, compassionate, knowledgeable & friendly. My wife has now stopped eating & drinking & will probably pass away in a few days. But I believe there is no place in this world where she would have rather spent the last of her days on earth. Thank You, Thank You, Thank you Regional Hospice. read more
