Several days before the Corona Virus became a topic of any sort, I moved my mother to Ridge Crest…read moreat Meadow Ridge due to declining health. This was a very difficult decision as it was going to separate my mother from her husband. However, as I would soon learn, it became the very best choice I could have made. From my initial conversations with the Admissions Nurse Daneen, my mind was put at ease by her expertise, her overwhelming compassion and complete sense of caring about all aspects of the move. Soon after the move, I met Danielle, the head nurse of the wing where my mother was placed, and found the exact same wonderful and comforting set of values in her (I am able to talk with Danielle daily to get updates on my mother's condition). This was followed by the rest of the staff, who, again, continue to impress me in every way. Then the word of the Corona Virus made the news. Ridge Crest under the direction of Kim Held, the Director of Nursing, took decisive and immediate action and locked down the facility to all visitors. This was far in advance of other nursing facilities,and has played a pivotal role in keeping the facility safe. This meant my mother's husband and I would no longer be able to visit her. However, once again, the Ridge Crest team stepped up. They understood the social and emotional toll this would take on their residents and their loved ones. Through the staff's loving and compassionate ways they put the residents at ease, as well as their family and loved ones. I am able to be in regular contact with the nursing staff by phone, my mother via FaceTime (set up by the staff). I cannot imagine a better, safer, more professional and loving place to have placed my mother. Ridge Crest is simply an outstanding facility.

The staff in nursing, housekeeping, nutrition and rehab were so gracious and loving to our mom and to us. It was difficult to adjust after mom's passing and Jen the social worker offered her suggestions regarding dealing with our grief. After having a very difficult respite experience at another facility last year, I was extremely nervous about trying again. As a caregiver, leaving someone you love in the care of others is not easy. From the moment we walked into Putnam Ridge, I felt a difference. We were warmly welcomed, the facility was clean and smelled clean, the residents were well cared for, and everyone we encountered was friendly and spoke to us. I talked to my mom almost every day while I was away, and hearing how strong and comfortable she sounded gave me a sense of peace I did not have last year. For the first time, I was actually able to relax on vacation knowing my mom was safe and being cared for. To the staff of the Apple Memory Care Unit, thank you for caring for my mom and for giving this caregiver something just as valuable: PEACE OF MIND. I finally got ahold of my grandmother tonight. No one told her of my call. She could have passed it on if she was busy, anything. What if it WAS an emergency?? Thanks Janine. My mother has been a resident at St. John Paul for 10 months. She is 97 years old. She is so well…read moretaken care of. The nurses and aids are so kind and compassionate. Richard, Ketty, Cathy, Doris, Gin, Maui and others tend to all the residents needs promptly. Debbie, Vinny,Marianita the recreation staff not only keep everyone busy they help in at lunchtime. Whether it is assisting with meals getting whoever needs extra condiments drinks, etc.. I truly enjoy interacting with residence. I feel like all are family to me. Turnover of staff is huge. Agency workers make up 50% or more of their staff. Poor pay for staff. Lots of favoritism. Employees talking in other languages other than English on units. What was not good was the care my husband received. I was there every other day, and I left each day dissatisfied with his care on the "ward". Also I paid for PT and OT services 5 days a week each. They did not give that care. He was lucky to see either of them a couple times a week. I complained but it did not change. AND I was billed for all the days that he did not get care. By the time he left the facility, he was so weak that he could barely stand. It took a month of at-home services to recover from the inactivity while he was in the facility

They were rude, condescending and unfriendly. The last straw for me was when I had to cancel an appointment because my sons school had an emergency early dismissal and I was told I'd be charged a late fee. Such a shame but I'll take my chances elsewhere. There is no room for bad customer service especially in a rehabilitation setting where people are already sick and having a hard time. Such a shame.
