This restaurant is more like a deli than an actual Italian pizzeria. That's not to say that their pizza isn't awesome. I had lunch there today simply because I drove by and saw the place. I was already in the mood for pizza, so I had to get their pizza. They have subs on the menu too, but I thought an actual sub would have been too heavy and filling for me. They had various types of pizza on display, and I liked the one with several meats and vegetables. The employee was on his game, and the second after I placed my order, he went off to work getting my pizza ready. I didn't have much time to wait or even dine inside the restaurant, so I asked for my order to go. I'm helping an Artist friend of mine do an install at Glen Echo park,(you should come see it) . It was lunch time, and no I didn't bring anything to eat. I needed sustenance to be able to carry on. I walked to the little shopping area,and I do mean little, stuck in between a sushi shop and a Dominos pizza joint is a little gem. The Glen Echo Pizza and Sandwich shop is a tiny diamond to a throwback Era where fast food was king. Before all the franchise joints. I ordered a chicken cheese steak sandwich and it was better than anything I've had on South Street in Philly. Cluttered and dirty store, cold cut sub was terrible. Roll was the only redeeming part of the sub. The meat was truly pathetic, spent $10 and got 3 thin pieces of prepackaged meat. A friend brought over a steak and cheese sub from this place. Luckily for me, he got the giant size so offered to cut me a piece. This place is terrible. The pizza is worse than Chuck E Cheese pizza. Really bad. I had an Italian cold cut sandwich. There were 3 pieces of folded prepackaged meat on the sandwich. Not even fresh meat. That is not how to make a sandwich. It had such a horrible taste that I took 2 bites and threw the rest away. Instead I got mushy white bread (they only have one kind of bread) and meatballs that tasted like Chef Boyardee. If you're starving and in this shopping center, I recommend anything from Kanpai Sushi (in fact, I go there by choice often) or 7-11 over this place. read more

BEWARE of potential corona virus exposure if you enter these premises. This is a very tiny space. The customer order line (which occupies a very small area) is only a few feet from the kitchen, which is open and separated from patrons by only a half-barrier. The owner and his wife take orders and work in the tiny kitchen. Neither of them wear masks. The owner's wife today cheerfully volunteered "Oh, you don't have to wear masks here" and invited the patron ahead of me in line to take off his mask. The patron (who turned out to be a doctor) and I were shocked. I don't know about him, but I certainly won't go back. read more

This is the neighborhood sub and pizza joint. It is a hole in the wall and has been through several owners over the years. Whitman kids and tradesmen hit the place starving. They have large subs and half subs, which I find more than adequate. We are fond of the turkey subs and meatball subs. The pizza has varied in quality, depending on who is working, and it is not cheap. They have typical lunch specials. I can't get too excited about them other than they are handy. When possible, I'd rather go next door for Kanpai Sushi. read more

I sent my fiance to get a sandwich I saw on the Internet, on their website. It is called "The Glen Echo Cold Cut", which is described as ham, roast beef, turkey and provolone. The description then goes on to say that this sandwich has more meat than the other subs (so I was expecting to have leftovers). He gets home with a "sandwich" tat looks like I pulled it out of my kindergarten lunch box, with very thin puny bread and a piece of salami on it. No roast beef, no ham, no Turkey. I never write negative Yelp reviews but for the price of this sandwich, that was absolutely NOTHING ss described, I am pretty upset. I heard great things from a client of mine and we lived in the neighborhood, so it seemed perfect. No. Next time I will throw together what I can find in the fridge. read more

My family and I picked up subs from here yesterday, and all of us were pleased with our dinners. The cheesesteaks were tasty, and my chicken cheesesteak was exactly what I'd hoped for. Fries weren't great, but they did the job. Our dinner for 4 (1 large cheesesteak, 2 "small" (8 inch) cheesesteaks, one small chicken cheesesteak, and 4 orders of fries) came to about $25, which I didn't find unreasonable, especially because there was enough leftover for today's lunch. read more
