History
Established in 2023.
Todd got the inspiration for Glasstown after travelling through the US working in the tool & die industry, and would visit breweries situated along various riversides. He wanted to bring the same experience to his town. The building opened in 1879 as Shaw's Hardware store fixing hinges, hammers and horse shoes! Original features have been preserved such as exposed brick walls. On the second floor Wallaceburg came alive at night, states Mr. Shaw, "The IOOF — Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Orange Young Britons gathered. Windows glowed from lamplight, and some nights, you’d hear everything from patriotic speeches to fiddle tunes drifting out into the street". Mr Shaw shared that steamships passed along the Sydenham river and back patio. The docks were lined with barrels, crates, timber. Wallaceburg was a trade hub, shipping lumber, glass, brass fittings, & sugar. This building stood right at the heart of it — a place where boats unloaded and boots stamped mud on the floorboards.
Meet the Business Owner: Todd S.
It has been a long-time dream of mine to bring an upscale brewery and taproom to heart of Wallaceburg. I’ve spent a lot of time travelling throughout the US for my work in the tool and die industry and often found myself visiting different breweries situated along various riversides. It got me thinking that we could have this same experience right here in Chatham-Kent. Being raised in Wallaceburg, and then raising my own family here, I’ve felt the incredible support this community has to offer and knew it was my time to give back. My hope is that Glasstown can be more than a brewery. I’d like it to be a community, a family, a destination and something everyone here in Wallaceburg can feel proud of. Thank you for the ongoing support in bringing the Glasstown vision to life!
