I went by Gieuseppe's a couple days ago a place that has been on my rotation of places I visit frequently for close to a year. I always have great food and great service. I ordered the Shrimp Pesto Linguine and an order of the manicotti to-go. Both dishes were great as usual. However, this time I decided to have dessert something I hadn't done in times past. Now on the menu they have three featured desserts and a specialty dessert. I decided to order two slices of the New York style cheesecake. I got home and finished the meal and when I went to open the dessert that I ordered instead of cheesecake they gave me two slices of their limoncello cake. I thought maybe it was an honest mistake and decided to return to the restaurant to resolve the matter. Upon arrival back at the restaurant I told the host the issue and the other employee said "Oh yeah we are out of cheesecake tonight." So my thought was why not just tell me before I spent nearly 20 dollars on two pieces of cheesecake. So they gave me a slice of the specialty cheesecake "on the house" and sent me on my way with the limoncello cakes that I didn't order. I do love Giueseppes and will surely be back I just think we will skip dessert in the future. It didn't seem to be their strong suit and for the price the portion isn't great. What's wrong with me??? We have been doing takeout from Giuseppe's Cafe for years now. YEARS!!! I don't know how it's possible I never left them a review! Definitely 5 stars in our opinion!! A small local restaurant that has good pizzas and I personally love their lasagna. I also like to get their house salad subbing mozzarella cheese for feta and real bacon for bacon bits. I have been driving past Giuseppe's on the way to work for months. Tonight I finally tried it. Inside it is clean and cozy. Our server was very friendly and quick to take our order. My friend and I ordered a basket of bread, caesar salad, a veggie pizza, and tiramisu. The basket of bread was delicious and fresh. The caesar salad was good, but I wish I had ordered my dressing on the side. It had a little more dressing than I prefer to eat. The veggie pizza was tasty. They did not skimp on the toppings and the crust was some of the best I have ever had. We finished our meal with some tiramisu. My friend and I avoid alcohol for religious reasons. We were excited to find out the tiramisu does not contain any alcohol! It was luscious. The only critique I have is I felt the pizza was lacking flavor. I am pretty sure it was just tomato sauce, dough, and cheese. It would have tasted better with more herbs such as oregano, basil, and sage. Still, I enjoyed my experience. The pizza crust in this restaurant has no salt whatsoever so the pizza taste very blend. The crust is very soft like just bread there's no chew to it and the cheese. This place is very delicious! I'm from Cuba and our cheese is not processed back home. Natural cheese has a very particular smell/taste. At Giuseppe's you get great quality unprocessed cheese. The cheese bread is very good without being overwhelmingly cheesy. If you want to try a pizza get the four cheese one it is absolutely delicious. The fettuccine Alfredo is very good the only thing I would say is maybe tell them not to put so much sauce. The spaghettini with marinara sauce is also very good, it's the perfect comfort dish. Giuseppe's desserts are very delicious without being too overly sweet. Both the desserts are very fluffy and light. It's definitely not heavy which we appreciated. If you had to go for one I would suggest the tiramisu, you'll never go wrong with this option. We went twice and both times had the same server with the cool glasses and tattoos she's so sweet! This was a very unfortunate experience with chicken marsala....I immediately noticed a strange aroma that smelled nothing like any chicken marsala I'd ever had, then it seemed every bite I took became spicer and spicer. I couldn't finish half of it before my belly started hurting and I stopped eating. The chicken was not good at all--no seasoning, very plain. The best part of the plate was the garlic bread. My fiancé had spaghetti and meatballs, and he said it was just mediocre--not bad, but not great. Definitely a "hole in the wall" joint--interior was out of date and bathrooms were in the middle of the dining room which was very uncomfortable. I will say it was located in a very neat little old village area and the staff was friendly, and I felt safe. I give this place 5 stars because my 9 year old niece and 6 year old nephew said so. They raced this was the best pasta they have had in a while. Let it be noted that pasta is their primary food group of choice. I appreciated that the meatballs and other meat stuffings in the pasta was beef unless chicken; therefore I was able to enjoy the lasagna. My group of 9 decided to have lunch at Giuseppe's. It was very crowded and there was also a line of people who were waiting to give their orders. The front line person at the register who was taking the orders was so calm and polite. We had the option of waiting an hour or dine outside. We chose outside. Warm yet pleasant. An occasional breeze. Our orders came out in a matter of minutes!! No mistakes. The young lady who was the server was also not bothered. A veteran of 14 years there. She was so calm and friendly. Now to the main reason for the review. Everything looked good, fresh, and healthy. I ordered the Calzone. I thought it would be a small lunch size portion. Was I surprised!! That was the largest and best I've ever tasted. Even before I got to the ingredients inside I was enjoying dipping the crust into the sauce. The crust was just perfect!! Celebrated my son turning 30 here. The service was impeccable, our waiter was so nice and extremely funny. We had the marinated mushrooms for an appetiser to share with 4 people. They were delicious! I had a side salad which was very fresh and big enough to share. I had lasagna which had a very rich meaty sauce and surprisingly had some yellow squash amongst the layers. My hubby had the chicken pesto and he loved it. We all took leftovers home for lunch. My son eats there often and said he has tried all the entrees and he has never been disappointed. We visited this place on just a hunch, while in the back of my mind, during a Yelp search and seeing pics of the place and food, I saw that the indoor seating wasn't very inviting looking. But the reviews were 99% good. Looking at the pics of food and seeing excellent presentation, I knew this was a underground local favorite that we had to try...and my hunch wasn't wrong at all. This place serves some of the most tastiest, freshly made Italian I have experienced. The staff is excellent, attentive and not overbearing. It's in a non descript part of Glen Iris neighborhood, that's very close to the campus (good location choice Giuseppe!). I'm theirs forever.
