Can't say anything bad about my extra thin 16" pizza - C/S/O with extra cheese. Was just looking for a different place to spend dinner money after a long day of driving. This was close to my hotel so called ahead and ordered. Order was ready on arrival and pizza was delicious. Staff encounters were all friendly. Will definitely be going back here on my return. Has potential but like another reviewer said, let the newness wear off. Pizza was perfect, service needs a lot of work. Our issues tonight: 1. Once we were seated 25 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. 2. Ordered a salad to be delivered with pizza. Arrived 20 minutes after the pizza. (We declined it) 3. We each ordered a water and a beer. Was never asked if we wanted a refill on either. I had to ask for more water so I could get my last bite of pizza down. 4. Server only came to table to deliver food and deliver bill. 5. Nobody said "thank you" ever, even as we were leaving. We decided to do the carry out option instead of trying to dine inside. They have an easy online form to fill out with a drop-down menu for available pickup times. At 4:30, I grabbed the earliest I could: 7:40--and I know this was due to the new business, reputation, excitement at opening, and the time it takes to cook a deep dish pizza. I was perfectly happy to wait. Upon arrival, my pizza wasn't done yet, but the staff was friendly. There is a waiting space for us carry out folk. And I peaked into the dining area, which was packed! I wound up waiting about twenty minutes until my pizza arrived--hot and fresh out of the oven. I figured twenty minutes wasn't too bad of a wait when you're guessing on times. Once home, the pizza itself just didn't have the same pizazz. Was it because I hadn't driven clear to Chicago to enjoy it? I don't know. First time visit to an Iowa Giordano's and it happened just as the restaurant opened their dining room after closure for the covid virus. They were operating with a reduced seating and menu but that was OK since we simply wanted a pizza. The service was very considerate and effective. It was very evident they had upped their cleaning and sanitizing as we've recently witnessed at other restaurants. They all probably should have been this thorough all along. read more

This was our first time trying Giordanos, only giving 2 stars based on service. Ordered takeout- sm thin crust, fettuccine, chicken parm, Italian beef, and cheese bread. When I arrived 5 minutes after my scheduled pick up time the counter person handed me my pizza and said thanks. I said I have pastas as well and he just stared at me. He eventually went to the kitchen and came back with the rest of my order. At home discovered the pizza was not what we ordered- spinach & cheese but instead sausage,onion, and green pepper. Unboxed the Italian beef sandwich and there were no fries! It is very frustrating to spend close to $100 on take out and get home to find an incorrect order. This was a very disappointing experience. One of my favorite pizza places when in Chicago so was excited to discover this location while visiting Des Moines. I can NOT do 5 stars because they only serve Pepsi products and that's a shame. On to the review! First off, Service was very good. We ordered the deep dish which takes much longer to cook so we got the sampler platter appetizer. Very good. Hot, fresh and sauces were really good. Because the wait is for the deep dish is around 45 mins (normal). We were constantly given fresh refills. I liked that. Pizza arrived straight out of the oven and hot which is perfect. Tasted excellent. I ordered a side of banana peppers but never got them.... no big deal. My wife mentioned it when we asked for a to go box and she immediately apologized and brought me a container of them. Other than that, it was a great meal and experience. Drinks were good, service was horrible and I've made better microwave pizza at my house. Do not order the thin crust margarita pizza. There was not crisp to the pizza and the cheese was hardened over by the time we got pizza. I've had this same place in Denver and loved it and was extremely dissatisfied with this location. Excellent pizza! My husband and I take our pizza pretty seriously and although this is a chain, it is not your standard sauce and dough. First, it's Chicago deep dish. The crust has all the best qualities: gently crunchy on the edges, buttery taste and will leave you questioning whether you like the crust of the toppings better (and I'm a cheese LOVER!). The toppings are fresh and exactly the right proportions to each other, the sauce, and the crust. The sauce, while typically not what makes a pizza amazing for me (but it has the potential to ruin it if bad), was more like fresh crushed tomatoes, with the perfect zest and get two thumbs up from me. If you haven't had the chance to visit this Chicago staple in Iowa yet, GO!! You are seriously missing out if you don't. read more

Pizza was good, and that's where it ends. We went Saturday at 6pm. Waited for 1.5 hrs to sit down (which we expected) but after we were seated,our waiter asked if we ordered pizza in advance because it would be 1.5 hrs for the pizza. We orders a salad and appetizer which arrived 1 hr after we ordered. Then, the pizza arrived about 5 minutes after that. We ordered a bottle of Chianti then was informed they were out, so we were upsold to a more expensive bottle. Also found out the main menu has a limited drink menu. They had a separate menu for an expanded list of drinks. The waiter also told us he's not going to be there long due to the terrible way this restaurant is managed. This restaurant in Chicago is 5 stars, in WDM it unfortunately is not. 1.) This restaurant is new so the food is average and service is not great. 2.) I highly recommend a reservation or getting there 10 minutes before open because it is very busy (We went 10 minutes early and there was a line 40 deep out the door). 3.) Also order your pizza right away because dish pizza takes a very long time to cook (It took about 40 minutes to get ours). Overall the food is not as good as it is in Chicago and with the restaurant being new the service was very poor. It's worth a try but it will not be a multiple visit place for me. read more

Excellent as always. Worth the wait! My only criticism would be that our pizza seemed to have too many green peppers - but that just means next time we'll tell 'em to go easy. During a time when so many restaurants are struggling through the world of carryout and curbside pickup, Giordano's got it right tonight. We placed an online order for curbside pickup, and as soon as we arrived, we we're greeted and asked for our name. When they realized our order hadn't been received, Ben came out, told us what happened, apologized profusely, and let us know our pizza was in the oven and our ordered would be comped. He told us it would be about 30 minutes, and it seriously wasn't a minute more. We decided to order beers to go while we waited, and they also comped those for us! Ben called to tell us when our pizza was coming out of the oven, and they were walking it out the door as we pulled up. We'll be back without a doubt because of the way this team handled a tough situation. Oh and the pizza? Hands down, the best deep dish we've ever eaten! read more

Took my boys here, with seven of his buddies to celebrate my eldest's 14th birthday. The food was fantastic! I live in Fort Worth, TX and get to see my boys every 3-4 weeks. I planned an evening to celebrate. Despite being late for our reservation and worse yet, staying after they closed to finish our meal, our waitress, Melissa was fabulous. 14 year old boys can be a tall task and she was so sweet to all of them and patient. I had never had deep dish pizza before, besides Conans in Austin. Giordano's was delicious. I ordered a pickup order for 7:10 on a Sunday. I showed up late because I expected it to be late thanks to all of you awful people that shit on this place for no reason, and the pizza was waiting for me. I didn't seem quite as good as what I had on the other side of the Mississippi River, but the biggest negative was the crust on the bottom was moderately burnt. read more

Giordano's is a deep dish pizza specialist. The service was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. We order right when we got sat down because we knew the wait was going to be roughly 45 minutes. We ended up waiting for exactly an hour. Fifteen more minutes doesn't seem like a long time, but when waiting for 45 minutes already really started to anger me. The pizza overall was pretty good. I had sausage and mushroom, which I always like. Was it worth the wait yes, but barely. We did end up getting 10% off the order, which is very nice. Would I go back again? Maybe. Great pizza but staff needs improvement! Ordered a spinach/mushroom/chicken sausage pizza asking to have chicken only on one half. Also asked them not to cut the pizza so it would maintain better quality on way home as it was carry out. Before picking it up we were told they had sliced it and they would give us a $25 voucher for our next visit. We were ok with that. Upon arriving home we found there was no spinach anywhere and the chicken was distributed all through out the pizza. This was disappointing. ( did not get a card or a name.) this man informed me that they do NOT do catering they are having problems keeping up, and figuring out how to do take out and deliveries. But on the table is a sign about catering. So I am confused a little. Honestly I feel that he was talking me out of the chartering order. Which is sad. I never do reviews, but this place needs to go away or hire competent employees. It took the waitress 10 min to come to the table. When she did we placed our order for salad, pasta and a THIN crust pizza. We wanted our salads first, they got to the table 30 min later with the pasta....and the pizza we never got. The salad was good, pasta was mushy and the sauce had no flavor. After waiting over an hr for the pizza we decided we had enough. Our waitress was nowhere to be seen, we had to hunt someone down to ask for our ck, again waited over 10min...never got it. Finally we dropped cash on the table and walked out. I can't imagine the service during busy hrs. We were there at 8:30pm. Never going back for basic food with horrible service!!! read more
