Best happy hour in Des Moines. Love their pizza. It used to be my favorite in Des Moines, A.) before they changed their sauce recipe, and B.) before I tried Franka.. However! for ambience and an absolutely incredibly executed, wood fire Neapolitan style pizza-- This place is amazing. I like their new sauce and it goes with the Moroccan theme of eatery a it's just personally not my favorite when I'm craving an authentic Neapolitan style pizza. We came here for dinner and made a same-day reservation for 7:00 PM. We were seated very quickly because of the reservation, which was a great start to the evening. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. They were a little busy, so service wasn't always the fastest, but everyone was very friendly. My mom ordered the meatballs and the corn soup. Unfortunately, both dishes were much spicier than she expected, and she wasn't able to eat much of either. The staff was so understanding and kindly removed them from our bill, which we really appreciated. She then ordered the fig and pear bruschetta, and she really enjoyed the combination of the fruit, cheese, and bread. The only thing that surprised us was the onion bread--it had a strong fried onion flavor, almost like onion rings, which wasn't really our favorite. I ordered the fettuccine. The pasta was cooked al dente, but the flavor was very underwhelming. It was silky and creamy in texture, but honestly, it didn't taste like much. It mostly tasted like parsley and almost watery, and some of the noodles were stuck together. I added Parmesan hoping it would help, but I was still searching for flavor the entire meal and never really found it. The texture was nice, but I wouldn't order this dish again. The food came out in about 15 minutes, which was pretty quick. Overall, while the restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff provided excellent service, the food just wasn't for me. I also noticed that several dishes leaned on the spicy side, so if you're sensitive to spice, I'd recommend asking if they can make it milder or choosing something else. Hasn't been here for a while so we stopped in with another couple for dinner. Got right in on a Tuesday without a reservation. My wife and I split a bottle of wine-they have a pretty good selection to choose from. For dinner I got the Gyro. It had chopped lamb, which was a different twist, but it was pretty good. My wife got the Hangar Steak. It was tasty and came with a generous portion of fingerling potatoes and Brussels Sprouts. The other couple got a pizza and Fig and Pear Bruschetta. Their pizzas are always good and the Bruschetta was tasty too. Our server Reagan was excellent-checked in on us regularly and was very personable. Good menu with a lot of variety. We stopped in for an early dinner and ended up leaving before even being served. We had our baby with us in a car seat and asked for a booth along the wall so we'd have a safe place to set him, which has never been an issue for us at other restaurants. After being initially seated in a booth that didn't fit the car seat, we asked to move to a small half booth in the (completely empty) dining room. One hostess told us that was perfectly fine, so we got settled. Shortly after, another hostess came back and asked us to move again to a standard table where the only option was placing the car seat on the floor, which we weren't comfortable with. At that point, we chose to leave. What was most disappointing wasn't the seating issue itself, but how it was handled. The restaurant was empty at the time, and the interaction felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming--especially as new parents just trying to have a quick, low-impact meal. A must stop if you're in Des Moines. My brother went to Drake so we'd always go to Eatery A when we'd visit. Last time I'd been was his graduation almost 8 years ago. I was so excited to eat here again and it was as good as I remember. We came for brunch and the #4 pizza hit the spot. My favorite thing on the menu will forever and always be the salted caramel budino. It's perfect and one of my top desserts, and I'm a dessert person. Get the salted caramel budino and thank me later. Service was lovely and its calm vibes in there. read more

Haven't been here in a while but noticed some changes on their menu, such as the spinach rigatoni! I think it was flavorful and came with a side of bread. Service was good. Lots of traction in the area, which makes sense this place is popular. Parking continues around the building to exit! So first the good: pizza is fantastic! Cocktails are very good as well. For dessert I love their blackberry sorbet. Now the bad: service, some of the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Waited ten minutes to be greeted, with no name and no sense of urgency or apology. Waited 35-40 minutes for our first round of drinks in which we never saw our server once, I had to flag her down borderline yelling to get her attention. Waited almost an hour for food but not the kitchens fault, the server should be letting us know how long it will be. We didn't see her for 25 minutes AFTER she took our credit card, and again, not a single apology or check in. We saw her 4-5 times in the 2 1/2 hours we were there, so every 30-45 minutes. I get it, the servers are young here, but that doesn't make up for the complete lack of professionalism. They need to be trained better. Ambiance is fine, for such a loud restaurant I could hear everyone at our table so that was very nice. Unfortunately as good as the food is the service will keep me from ever coming on another busier night. Maybe if it's dead. read more

My friend and I enjoyed pizza that had incredible crust. We share a dessert that I am still thinking about. Our server was very sweet but our service was spotty. She seemed to disappear a lot. Stopped in for impromptu lunch. 2nd time we've been here now. Very welcoming and inviting venue. Love the layout and patio and bar area. Very updated and clean. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I had a mimosa which was actually one of the better ones I've had now. And had the pepperoni pizza. Eatery A is a vibe. However, it can get loud due to the openness of the space and the closeness of the table. I had the pizza before but this time I wanted to try something different so we went for the Shrimp, Chicken Shawarma, and Sirloin skewers. They were each perfectly paired and I finally tried hummus which was delicious with the Chicken. I also had a mocktail which was just ok, needed more sugar as I like my drinks sweet. For desert I had a Affogato, I'm obsessed! It was so delicious! I went home and tried to make my own, it didn't taste the same haha The server seemed a little uninterested, almost like it was a long day. Never got a smile and she was very slow. Totally get it, hopefully she was able to get some rest. Parking isn't the best. I was there on a Friday evening and the parking lot was full. For the past four weeks, I have met a group for lunch here and I had four different things with still more choices for vegetarians I wasn't able to sample! First up was the Avocado bowl with quinoa, farro, salsa verde, and fennel slaw. So much goodness but even though I was hungry, I couldn't finish it! The next week I had the smashed avocado toast without the soft egg. The tomatoes on top could have been chopped a little finer and they kept falling off the bread but it was tasty. Third time I had the Cauliflower and Chickpea falafel and my eyes popped out of my head when I saw how big the plate was! It was served with Sumac flatbread, pickled veggies, hummus, and fattoush. Again, I couldn't finish it! Last visit, I tried the (I think) #4 pizza with feta, green onions, Kalamata olives, and blistered tomatoes. I am a bit of a pizza snob but this pizza was very good! We ate outside one week where we had to contend with traffic noise but the heat had us inside the other three weeks. It is a bit dark inside and while I liked the music, it was a bit too loud for conversation with our group of six. We had two different servers that I recall but the last two weeks we had Shaelynn and she was excellent. Personable and efficient. No photos since I was focused on my group. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food. I will need to return to try the other vegetarian options but the group is moving to a new location next time. read more

The weather was perfect for eating outdoors. One very efficient server took care of every table on the patio. There were 5 of us and we all ordered something different: shakshuka, Pizza 6, pizza 14, lemon ricotta pancakes and an avocado bowl. The lemonade and limeade were favorites, not too sweet. My avocado bowl came with optional salmon and was unique and incredibly delicious. Portions were on the large size, neither pizza was finished. What an incredible experience. Our server was so accommodating to our large part of 10. We ordered so many Arnold parents she brought us a craft. We had modifications galore and she was incredibly kind and supportive through it all. We celebrated a party and it was so amazing having a server take the time to get a group photo of all of us together. Truly am so appreciative of the staff. The food was delicious! We tried baklavas for the first time and loved. Was a little surprised by the seeds in the olives, however was informed that made it more traditional! The neighborhood staple restaurant is loud and parking is difficult but the food and service are great. They also do a half-off deals during happy hour and have good seasonal menus. I particularly like the hummus, carrots, arancini, bacon-wrapped dates, bucatini, and #2 (tomato with balsamic) and #6 pizza (fig and prosciutto). Their lunch menu features reliable salads, including a great avocado grain bowl. The best hearty weekend fare are shakshuka or lemon ricotta pancakes. read more

This was a great selection for a lunch meet-up. Everyone in the party loved Mediterranean food and Eatery A did not disappoint. We were in town for the Senior Games and my good friend was a gold and bronze metal winner. The restaurant manager provided a celebratory pancake that was quite yummy. I ordered the cauliflower and chickpea falafel entree that was enough to share. I took the extra for dinner later! My friends ordered the avocado grain bowl with chicken and the pizza with red sauce, mushrooms, red onion, and tomatoes, the lamb gyro, and a side salad with grilled shrimp. Woo whee! I've been to Eatery A a few times back when I lived in Des Moines, but after visiting this weekend I knew I had to write a review. I enjoyed a nice dinner outside on the patio. The construction on Ingersoll doesn't make for the greatest view, but the atmosphere of the patio is still great. Our waitress was very attentive and took good care of us. We ordered the fig and pear bruschetta, lamb sliders, papas bravas, roasted cauliflower, and chicken schwarma. Will not order the chicken schwarma or the roasted cauliflower again. The flatbread that comes with the schwarma was soaked in the oil below it, the chicken was flavored but the oil that is in the bowl took the whole dish over. The roasted cauliflower didn't seem roasted. I think the pesto and walnut mahammara both had a lot of oil so the pesto on top of the cauliflower drenched the top and then the mahammara on bottom soaked it. All the flavor was lost in the dishes. My boyfriend and I were in for Easter (I know such a busy day!) but Summer was incredible, she was so kind and helpful with recommendations and all of my questions about my allergies! She was calm cool and collected during a stressful shift, while giving excellent service to her entire section. A fabulous daddy daughter date night. My oldest is a Vegetarian so I work hard to find quality spots when she and I go.out. Eatery A delivers a fabulous experience, awesome food and so much more. We ordered every vegetable other than the olives. I opened my mind a little bit and now I am a huge fan of Baba ghanoush. The lamb sliders I had were simply outstanding in the crème brûlée was incredible. Probably the most surprising thing for me as we sat on the patio where the flatbreads we used to dip in our dishes. I've come to Eatery A many times because they simply have the best happy hour in Des Moines! We made reservations ahead of time for 5:15 and were seated right away. Our waitress was very nice and although we didn't see her too much, it wasn't necessary! The place was packed and so that's more than understandable. We ordered 3 pizzas and all were piping hot when they came out and delicious. We love the pizzas here and when you can't decide which ones to order, you order 3 and plan for leftovers. We also each had a glass of wine which is part of their happy hour specials. We sat in the main dining area and it was very crowded and loud which isn't ideal but that's okay! Parking was rough, we had to park a couple blocks away on the street but no big deal. We'll of course be back many many times. read more
