Loved dining here for my friends birthday celebration. We had a chicken salad and a #15 gluten free pizza that we shared. The pizza was perfectly cooked and crispy. Love when pizza has some crisp to it. Salad was fresh and delicious. We also shared a crème brûlée and that was just as tasty. We dined on the patio and it was a beautiful warm day to be out under their shady patio. Service was friendly. Loved all the trees they had to provide shade. Came here with a group of friends for happy hour on Friday evening. This restaurant is on Ingersoll, which is its own little district of DSM and has many local restaurants. Parking was difficult to find, but found a spot within the block. We got seated right away and our waitress took care of us well. For happy hour all beer and wine are 50% off and pizzas are 50% off as well. I believe it runs from 2-6pm. I ordered a custom pizza (slight up-charge) and got pepperoni, pineapple, and hot honey. Our food came relatively quick and hot. The pizza was so good, full of flavor, and I liked the fluffy crust. It was good overall, but I wouldn't pay full price for the food, so we may come back for happy hours in the future. read more

Eatery A has some of the best pizza I've had in my entire life. Wonderfully loaded with meats (#10 pizza) and the hot honey ties everything together. Baked in a wood fired oven and cheese bubbling to perfection. I also got to try the Moroccan beef kofta, which had a deep rich flavor. I can't say I was a huge fan of the farro, it just still tasted bland despite all the flavors and ingredients going on. I think I tasted golden raisins and dates. The menu said it came with flatbread but I didn't get any. I also didn't taste any pomegranate in the dish, but it's listed on the menu description. The service was OK, I had to wait about 25 minutes for a cocktail after the server asked if I wanted another. My sister brought me here for happy hour on a visit to the city over the weekend and we had a great time! I had the #8 pizza which is basically like a Hawaiian pizza & it was delicious. The hot honey isn't really hot at all, it really just adds to the flavor. For only $10 during happy hour (all pizzas are half priced), it was a really great deal! On a Saturday during happy hour, the place got pretty packed but our server was still on top of things. It is really nice inside the restaurant as well. Went to Eatery A last night. Good service. Ordered meatballs Potatoes gratin Steak, pork, and shrimp skewers. 3 for 34 for the skewers which is a pretty good deal. Each skewer had its own bed of grits or potato toes. For desert we split a chocolate torte and a strawberry pot. I didn't care for the shrimp since the home made hot sauce was a bit much. Enjoyed it very much although the loudness made it a bit hard to converse and the aforementioned shrimp skewer was a miss. Pizzas looked good and I would love to go back and try. read more

I went with a party of 6 so we ordered an assortment of different starters to split between us. With Happy Hour for appetizers until 6, it definitely made things more affordable. The drinks are excellent - if you enjoy sweet drinks, I highly recommend the Drunken Monkey. We had good service once a server was assigned to us. We had to wait about 20 minutes before our server came to our table to take our drink order, but she was excellent once assigned to us. We were in a small room off the back of the restaurant but the main area of the restaurant looked nice. I came here thinking I'd get a late lunch but I was pleasantly surprised that they ha. 3pm! With that came bottomless mimosas at just $16.99!! The place has a very rustic ambiance and wasn't too loud either. It has booths, high top tables and regular tables, so an option for everyone. The menu is vast and has a ton of vegetarian options, which was great. I ordered spicy potato bravas which were the right amount of spicy, right there in the middle. The quantity is not excessive and perfect for a 1 person appetizer. As an entree I ordered an asparagus and sweet corn grain bowl. Let me tell you, the presentation was exquisite. Eatery A is a lot of locals go-to for a nice meal out. The drinks are tasty, the mood is nice, and the food is delicious. In the past, I've gotten the Spanish Octopus and Papas Bravas, which are both delicious. The stand out here is the pizza menu. Pizzas are half price during happy hour (2pm-6pm every day). There are SO many delicious pizzas to choose from. Luckily, they let you do half and half for $1.99 extra. My go-tos are the #15 (spinach, goat cheese, honey, red onion, olive oil), and the #12 (mushroom, soft egg, truffle oil, and white sauce.) My boyfriend gets the #10 (essentially a meat lover's pizza with hot honey) and it's amazing. One thing-- parking can be challenging to find if their lot is full. Give yourself a bit of extra time to park. They also don't seat your party unless everyone is there. read more

Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday, glad we were able to make reservations on line as it was quite busy. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the cauliflower, carrots and especially the fiery baba ghanoush! Lots of gluten free options and gluten free crust for the pizza. The pizzas are tasty. Fantastic spot. Great decor. Simple, trendy but not too trendy. Very simple focussed menu. They know what they do and do it very well. We weren't that hungry so shared a pizza. They do half/half pizzas so you can combine your favs. Food was incredibly tasty. The egg on pizza had us skeptical at first and then won us over totally. Had some red wine that was great. The crusts on the pizza are large but we love that and asked for some balsamic vinegar on the side to dip the crusts in. Highly recommend this. Waiter was lovely, attentive and friendly. I am so happy with my experience at Eatery A. It is a divine restaurant located on the popular Ingersoll Ave. We were able to make a reservation ahead of time which I recommend. We had dinner at 7pm on a Saturday night, and it did not appear to be too busy; however, we ate here during the State Fair which may or may not have had an effect on that. The restaurant is large and offers indoor and outdoor seating (booth, table and high top). Right when you walk in, you see where the wood-fire pizza are made, quite cool! You can see the pizza making in action! We were seated at a table that allowed us to watch the pizza station for some entertainment between courses and small talk. The hostesses were very pleasant and our waitress was timely and knowledgeable of the menu items and beverage offerings. The only downside to our visit, was that the air compressor was down, so they were not offering anything on tap. The individuals in our group did not seem to mind though. The waitress was well versed in offering suggestions for some of the beverages on tap we were considering. I honestly don't remember what craft beers our table ordered, but I ordered a Vodka Pimm's and it was very good and refreshing. For our appetizers, our group ordered from the Delicacies (two for $15.99) list. We had Bruschetta and Meatballs. The Bruschetta was seasoned and topped beautifully. And the Meatballs were fresh, moist, and also well seasoned. Everything was served at perfect temperature. For dinner, each couple decided to go with pizza. We had the #7 and #11. The pizzas are one of their specialties which is why they were cooked so well. My only (minor) tweak would be to increase the amount of cheese on the pizza, but that is an incredibly minor suggestion. I do appreciate a decent amount of cheese on a pizza, but I do realize these are artisan and Mediterranean inspired pies. If I remember correctly, there was only one slice of pizza leftover between two pizzas. I think one pizza can comfortably feed 2-3 people. Our overall experience at Eatery A went very well, and I do believe we will be back again in the future. Our meal was served warm, timely and tastefully. This is one of the best restaurants in Des Moines. While considered a Mediterranean grill, Eatery A also has a wonderful handmade pizza selection. However, my personal favorite is their Spanish octopus with chorizo. The bar is also fantastic and their bartenders know how to make a good cocktail. This is also one of the only restaurants I know of in Des Moines that will seat and serve you late- I'm talking after 10pm. When it's nice outside you can sit on the patio and enjoy the weather. We had a wonderful meal here last evening m. For starters the restaurant is quite large and vibrant has a nice outdoor space that can accommodate quite a few diners. We were seated promptly on arrival. You can see the pizza making action as soon as you enter. The menu covers a broad palate from pizza , Mediterranean dishes and Italian influences. We opted to start with the hummus and pita which was amazing and flavorful the warm pita was seasoned perfectly. We then ordered the papas bravas , Moroccan carrots, potato gratin, roasted Brussels, we also opted for the meatballs. All of the dishes we ordered were flavored perfectly and served hot. The meatballs we so so good, soft and moist. The carrots prepared perfectly. The gratin came to table in three blocks that were sliced thin and had a sweet essence with cheese, the papas bravas were like fried Potato wedges that were tossed in a spicy chipotle dry rub of sorts. The Brussels sprouts were prepared roasted with sweet notes of pomegranate. We lastly rounded the meal with the corn agnolotti. This dish was rich sweet and corn creamy. There were hot pillows of deliciousness wrapped in homemade pasta prepared perfectly. We ordered a round of drinks including two of the Pims drink. Which was very heavily minted aside from that sweet. This was a great choice for something different and not your typical meat and potatoes place. Best to order a bunch of small plates and share. There is many diverse menu items and something for every palate. We were going to skip dessert because we were truly full.... But the waitress sold us on the caramel budino.... Umm do not skip this creamy dessert so good and was perfect to share so we all had a few spoons without over indulging. read more

I heard good things so I decided to order. I was very disappointed. The salad I ordered was a massive rip off. It was $23, and I got something that was essentially a glorified side salad topped with overcooked shrimp. The steak had good flavor, so that's keeping this review from being a 1 Star. But the portions for that dish were underwhelming, too, relative to the price tag. I was hesitating about giving this place a 4 or 5, and ended up deciding on 5 due to its balance between quality and affordability. Based on food alone, I would resort to a 4. Don't get me wrong. A lot of things are perfect! The salmon lox toasts, the seasonal fruit, the hummus and pita, the chilaquiles verde, the grilled cheese sandwiches, etc. are all just well done for one to enjoy a comfy brunch! The areas of improvement are relevant to the shrimp & grits, the lavender crème brûlée, the lamb gyro sandwich, and the shakshuka. I think the shrimp & grits had really salty shrimp and the grits were slightly overcooked. The lavender crème brûlée was very liquidy, so I was thinking maybe there was too much heavy cream and not enough egg yolks, and part of the sugar on the top was under the torch for too long causing it to turn really black and glass-like in texture while the rest of the top was not burnt. The lamb gyro sandwich had perfect inside, but I think the outside could use smaller pita bread, maybe cutting the pita in half, true to the amount of the gyro. And almost everything was perfect for the shakshuka, but the egg was overcooked and the yolk was already solid instead of liquid. If you are reading up until this point, then you can see that I am being nitpicky and that is because I cook most of those things at home, too. But that is by no means a denial of how good everything is in general. The bottomless mimosa, by the way, was a real plus, and our server was very attentive to continuously pouring me more mimosa even if I wasn't finishing my glass yet. I am giving this place a 5 star because for the food quality it has, which is already greater than most, it is very affordable, and has a considerable amount of food to allow one to be full, especially if one chooses hummus and pita to be the side. Again, I know I have predominantly written constructive comments rather than positive praises for the food, but please understand that I praise everything by default already, and I see the restaurant Management reading people's comments, so I hope what I have said can help make this an even stronger 5-star establishment! And I strongly recommend whoever is in Des Moines to give this place a visit! read more

They do have a 3 for 25$ deal for entrees, and 3 for 15$ deal for appetizers however. I would therefore recommend going with a few friends and splitting a bunch of dishes. 7/10 read more
