Exceedingly tasty. I've been fortunate enough to have good imitations (Zachary's in the East Bay), but there's something wonderful about the real thing. We got a large and it stuffed six people (granted, some with less appetite than others, but six nonetheless). The fried mushrooms were also fantastic. I almost wish it was all a little less filling; I would've liked to have eaten more. The wait staff was friendly and attentive enough; no superlatives here, but nothing I had any problem with. My only real knock is their beer selection, but we probably limited our options by going for a pitcher, anyway. It's worth a stop here if you're a foodie visiting Chicago. If you're crunched for time, be sure to call in your pizza order ahead of time. All of my five companions had flights to catch early that evening, and we all made it out of a late lunch with plenty of time, thanks to giving them a half-hour head-start on our pie. read more

Until recently, the best I had ever had was Zachary's in Oakland, but I realized that I couldn't really say I'd had Chicago style pizza until I had deep dish in Chicago, so I visited Chicago for the sole purpose of making it my pizza odyssey. I had done plenty of research, and while the reviews on this place weren't the greatest, it was one of the names that kept popping up over and over. I hadn't originally planned to visit this place, but I passed by it as I was walking from the train station to my hotel. I was hungry and figured this was a sign that I was destined to try this place WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! The crust was very dry..there wasn't enough sauce. and the sausage wasn't very seasoned. If you want really good deep dish, go visit Zachary's the next time you are in northern California (no, I don't own the place...I'm just obsessed with how good it is). I've like Giordano's for a while now, but I must give this particular location one star because of an incident that occurred just an hour ago. Several of my coworkers and I were working late at my office and we decided to get Giordano's delivered. I called in and talked to a woman who REALLY hurriedly took my order. I ordered a large stuffed pizza, gave her my credit card info, and then she very quickly said "It will be an hour" before hanging up the phone before I could cancel. We figured it was ok, so waited the hour and the delivery guy was right on time. Unfortunately, he brought a large thin crust pizza (we ordered stuffed). I called in and the woman paused for a moment (probably realizing that it was almost time for them to go home) and then told me "no, that's not what you ordered". I told her that, yes, it was and she eventually, grudgingly, said to go back to the front door and the delivery guy would meet me to exchange for the new pizza. After a half hour of waiting, I called back, at which point the same woman told me, "No, the delivery guy left." When I brought up that it was pretty rude to cancel on us without telling us at all, she said, and I quote, "There's nothing I can do about it" and hung up! We now have paid $22 for a thin crust pizza that we didn't even order. Great! Will definitely never be ordering from Giordano's again. read more

Stopped into Giordano's yesterday while on a business trip in Chicago. Solid 4 star experience and here's why: - Both my colleague and I ordered the individual sausage deep dish pizza combos, which came with a salad and drink for ~$12. Pizzas were solid and definitely filled the craving for deep dish - something I hadn't had since my last trip to Chicago in 2010. - Ambiance/decor is very "old-school, family run, Italian restaurant". I'm from NY, so it reminds me of a mix of Pizzeria Uno (which is probably trying to be Giordanos), and the local family-run, Italian restaurant where I grew up. Feels somewhat authentic. - Waitress was super friendly and attentive. - Decent beer selection. - Restrooms were cleaner than I expected (always a plus). Overall, food and service were both 4/5. I think the larger deep dish pizzas (the ones that take 45 min to cook) taste better, but we didn't have a ton of time, so the individual ones were still pretty solid. read more

We had about 5 people and the medium size chicago pizza was very worth the price. It mwas definitely different than the usual pizza. It almost reminds me of a lasagne personally because the cheese is soo thick. I would recommend to start eating it as soon as the pizza arrives versus spending five minutes trying to get the right angle of the pizza to take photo like we did because the cheese hardens up pretty fast and the pizza taste the best when the cheese is soft and warm. The place also sells a cheaper ticket to the Willis tower/sky deck. So make sure you buy it from there. It's about five dollars cheaper than buying at the entrance of the tower which is a block away. read more

My first deep dish pizza experience ever! And just like a lot of "firsts", there are high expectations which end up in disappointment. This was definitely one of them. I ordered take out as I was walking through the downtown core of Chicago on a beautiful night. My legs were tired and I was starving. The reviews for this place were good. So I went in to put in my order. Got a personal deep dish pizza and a small Cesar salad. The cashier said it would be 35min for the pizza to bake. That was a long commitment since I was already starving, but hey... It's my first time and it'll just taste THAT much better right? AFTER 55min, I confirmed it with the cashier as they time stamped my receipt.. My pizza was ready. The cashier apologized for the lengthy time it took for this tiny pizza to bake. Forgiven. I just need to eat and get an Über back to my unit. My Über was also 20min delayed (I could have walked back in 30min) so that didn't help. Finally made it back to my unit and noticed that the small Cesar salad I ordered was not in the bag. Effff!! So i called back the restaurant to see if they could at the least deliver the salad (it's a 30min walk, but a 5min drive). The cashier at the take out counter.. Same guy who took and gave me my order (and forgot the salad) said they couldn't deliver it that far, but they can credit me the salad so next time I come in, I can provide my phone number and they will give me my small Cesar salad. Verdict. My cold greasy deep dish pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza was fair. Then Cesar salad will remain a figment of my imagination. This place was delicious! We went after going to the Willis Tower. Even though there was a wait, we were able to put in our order for our pizza while we were waiting, so our pizza came before our appetizers! Wine and beer selections were great, as was the atmosphere. Marko was a friendly, attentive waiter and even changed the channel on the TV so we could watch the USA soccer game. First off, the service was absolutely atrocious. It took more than 15min for us to even be addressed by a server despite asking other staff members for help. They treated us like we were inconveniencing them, and we even considered getting up and leaving. We ordered pepperoni and sausage for delivery (it was late and they were closing in 20 minutes). They delivered the pizza in 30 minutes (understandable since it takes time to cook the monster) and were so friendly. Long Story short: I love deep dish!!! Long story long: One night while we were in town, a majority of our group decided to come here for dinner, before heading off to a prayer meeting later that evening. In fact our entire group of 40 someodd students decided to go to Giordano's, however about 10 or 12 in our group were up at Wheaton College during the day, so they went to another Giordano's than the one we went to. Parking here is such a pain. Unless you pay a lot of meter parking or valet, finding one of the public lots reminded me much of Downtown Los Angeles. Even during a weeknight, this place was PACKED!!! Thankfully for our reservation, we didn't even have to wait. It was pre-arranged that we would get a handful of pizzas for our entire group. One was vegetarian and the other was with sausage and mushrooms. Both were really good and well, what more do you want to say? I honestly can't remember how it compares with Gino's East, which is the deep dish I had when I was last in Chicago, but nonetheless, I just love pizza in general and particularly deep dish. I maybe went a little overboard and had about 4 1/2 slices, which probably amounts to 34 of a regular large pizza, hahahaha. What? Best. Pizza. Ever. No BS! I seriously don't know how I ever enjoyed pizza without being introduced to Giordano's a few years ago in Orlando, FL. I hate the fact that there isn't one in Miami but everytime I'm in Chicago or near Orlando or Tampa I make it my business to get a Giordano's pizza. My friend, who I love so dearly, thinks she's the reason I visit Chicago, but really, I only go for the pizza! Best deep dish overall one can find in the loop. Never fails to be outstanding in every way a deep dish place can be. Crust is flaky and crisp. Sauce, light and tomatoey. Cheese by the bucket load. Beer, about $4.50 a pint, eh. Filling, definitely. Shared a small with my girlfriend and walked away with two pieces for lunch the next day. This is tough; probably 3.5 stars instead of 4. The location is odd to me as I feel like it could be easily passed up sitting next to the OTB, away from other "sit down" restaurants. You get the hustle and bustle of business men and women, but when you walk in, it's a much slower, family environment. Kinda threw me for a loop. I got seated right away (at 5:45p on a Monday night), which was nice, but the hostess was very inaudible and not entirely pleasant. She walked me around the entire restaurant to finally seat me at a table (rather than a booth I asked for) that was towards the front of the restaurant in the middle of a crazy big family with small children and an out-of-town couple who kept trying to pawn their leftovers off to us. (They also asked where the nearest White Castle was. Seriously?!?! I told them to go to Indiana.) Our server was fairly attentive and rattled off the extensive beer list in about 8 seconds flat without taking a breath. I don't drink, but that was really impressive. Thirty minutes later, we had the stuffed pepperoni pizza we had ordered. This was really quick compared to other Giordano's restaurants. Maybe it was the fact that the place wasn't packed, maybe this location just rocks, or maybe it was luck, but I was pleased and impressed. The pizza was everything I expected and more (more, only b/c I happened to be so starving I probably could have gnawed off my left hand and enjoyed it). Our server was attentive but not overly annoying, which I can completely appreciate. So, alas I'm torn: 3.5 or 4 stars for this location; 4 for Giordano's in general. Someone just had some Good pizza and it reminded me of the awesome pizza I had before ha. Last December some co-workers and I were traveling to Wisconsin on a work trip. Our stop over at O'hare turned into an overnight lay over because of too much snow in Wisconsin. No, not hot dogs, we wanted some gooey authentic Chicago style deep dish pizza. There was a Giordano's near the Willis tower and the locals said it was good so we went here. We were seated right away and had a friendly waiter. We ordered a deep dish pepperoni pizza and the waiter was looking us weird that we didn't add sausage. What's up with the sausage? Do Chicagoans love the sausage? We didn't want sausage so we got a plain pepperoni deep dish and of course some bud light because we were going to consume a massive amount of pizza between 3 people. Our order came to the table in about 15 minutes or so and it didn't look huge, but looks can be deceiving because that bad boy was thick and cheesy. Every bite was like a bite of heaven yo. Flavor was amazing and no delivery chain in California can come even close. We had a couple of slices left over so we have it to a homeless man outside. He loved it and devoured it. The man said that place had good pizza. He knew what was up! The service was great, the pizza was amazing, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere. I was impressed. I don't know when I will visit Chicago again, but if I do, I'm definitely going back to Giordano's. read more
