The chicagoan deep dish personal size
    Matt H.

Drinks were strong, well made. Pizza was hot and fresh, made to order. They make a point to tell you the pizzas take some time to make, I guess people don't know what they're getting into with deep dish? I ordered the chicagoan, in personal size which was nice because there were three of us and we couldn't agree on one pizza, so personal size is nice. The place is a bit snug, an older building with tight space for all the tables. It was a bit warm when we were there so the restaurant was warmer, but overall a good visit.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere! We stopped in for just a snack and settled on the Calamari and Shrimp+Crab Dip. Both were great! The calamari was not excessively oily/greasy. The crab and shrimp dip was smooth and cheesy, it's paired with toasted bread, or I was dipping my calamari in it as well! Seafood hates to see me coming. The interior is darker with cozy seating, it definitely has a nostalgic/official pizzeria smell and aesthetic. Bar probably has 10 seats. Lots of carry out going through. Nice waiting area with seating.

You can find this location of Pizzeria Uno at 29 E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611. I believe the area is called "Near North Side" - I'm unsure of the parking situation as I walked to Uno from my hotel a few blocks away on Magnificent Mile. I believe this is the original Pizzeria Uno location - I've had Uno previously as there was a franchise location in Buckhead Atlanta years ago so very familiar with the style of pizza, which I've always preferred for deep dish. I figured I should visit this venerable location, actually within site of Pizzeria Due about a block away. The building is very old-school and unassuming, as you would expect for an establishment that has survived for so long - you walk into what looks to be a staging area for takeout so a couple of sets of doors to access a small dining area with a bar along one side - the interior is full of wood and once again old-school, comforting. I sidled up to the bar and looked over the menu deciding on a small deep dish sausage pizza with a starter salad. There's something about the way the sausage melts into the crust while the deep dish cooks that makes everything even better. The House Salad I received was a bit disappointing - really mostly iceberg lettuce piled up with the usual toppings (I should have opted for the version topped with Italian coldcuts - I just didn't think I could manage it and the pizza). I felt like it had way too many croutons (I left about half of them). Half the Deep Dish Sausage came out to me at the bar at about 30-35 minutes from ordering - I was asked if I wanted the rest or if it should be boxed up - I opted for the latter. As expected, the pizza was wonderful with a chewy crust that somehow still had crispy edges. It's also loaded with a ton of cheese - I wolfed down the half and enjoyed the rest later the same nigh. Service was great - the guy behind the bar had plenty of anecdotes and entertained all of us eating there. Overall a great experience.

Came across Uno's while shopping in the area. Here was our experience: -Entered the main entrance and "security" was eating lunch on the bench -Entered next door and the hostess yelled "it'll be 45 minutes wait time for food"; -Tables are very close to each other so be mindful of bringing shopping bags, big purses, only can sit on the floor -Our server Ethan was new so giving grace as he had quite a few tables to manage -We ordered a medium Numero Uno, 8 big slices -It def took almost 45-minutes for the pizza to arrive after the order was placed -The toppings on the pizza were not cooked and just tossed atop -Pizza was not seasoned UNO's will be a reference to determine if I can like deep dish pizza as I try other restaurants.

I've only had deep dish twice and NYC pizza already clears. There HAS to be better in Chicago but this was an absolute travesty. Appetizers were SO mid. The calamari was absolutely flavorless and all the crust was hard, brittle, and fell off with the slightest movement. Definitely frozen . The shrimp and crab dip was aight, the garlic bread super duper mid, felt like I was eating bricks. The pizza was genuinely devastating. This can't be what deep dish is. The crust was so hard it felt like I was a union civil war soldier eating hardtack. Maybe it's because of the size we got, maybe if it was bigger it'd be better. W cope. Costco pizza is better than this Word to my dead New York pizza CLEARS.

Here in Chicago for work again and my manager and I love visiting this pizza spot. Love the salad and bread, which fills us up before the entrees arrive. Regardless, we both order spaghetti and meatballs PLUS a deep dish. Generous servings, reasonably priced, all a great value. Yes, can you tell we aim for leftovers to reheat in the hotel microwave? I love the refillable Diet Pepsi, which is kind of funny to have after all the food we tend to order;) The "historic" wooden decor and furnishings exude a kind of rustic feel, and do be careful not to bang your knee as you exit the booths, if you're in one. Will definitely return when we're back for the next show! We love this place!

I've been a fan of Chicago style pizza for a long time, however I'm particularly fond of the pizza here because of they're buttery crust! It's crispy on the outside and just perfectly cooked throughout. I love this location as it reminds of what an old school pizzeria back in the day might've looked like in downtown Chicago. Dark walls, just below street level with windows laced around the top portion of walls. There is almost always a wait (for good reason!). Yesterday I opted to duck out of the frigid afternoon and get myself a personal deep dish with Italian beef & mushroom....perfect

    Garlic bread (giardiniera)

I would say this spot is 3.5 stars overall. I've been here twice, each time because friends/family from out of town wanted to try deep dish pizza. It's in an excellent location in River North and has a nice casual old school bar vibe. It's got a lot of history! It's the birthplace of deep dish pizza, so for that it's a cool place to try deep dish. Service is excellent and I appreciate they tell you up front that the pizza takes about 30-45 minutes to make once you put your order in. (I think our medium pizza took closer to 30.) The servers are friendly and check in just enough. There was also a photographer who came to each table and offered to take a complementary group photo. He came back at the end of our meal with the printed photo, which had a memorabilia vibe with some pizza and other images printed around our group photo. He also showed us the photo with a physical frame ($25) and one where they made us into cartoons (cute!!). We opted to keep the free photo without the frame. A nice touch to the overall ambience of the place, which is popular among tourists and out-of-towners! Among the 3 of us who were quite hungry, we ordered garlic bread (giardiniera) and a medium sized Numero Uno pizza. We finished the garlic bread and ate half the pizza (1 slice each). And we were so full! The pizza had nice flavor, with the sausage providing the saltiness and the tomato offerings a tanginess. The crust itself is very much like a pie crust. It's crumbly and crunchy and thick so takes some work with the knife. The garlic bread was good and I liked the kick of the giardiniera though it was more cheesy than I prefer. Overall the place is solid for its pizza. I definitely prefer it to the chain deep dish spots around the city. I like it's history, it's service, and general vibe. The bathrooms could be a bit cleaner though I know they're pretty busy. Overall I recommend it if you you're visiting the city and are curious about deep dish. Great location nearby lots of attractions and fun streets to walk around!

N/A New Fashion (pretty watery flavor compared to a good old fashioned)
    Eric H.

Deep dish at this landmark location is historic. Small wooden booths near the bar add to the charm. A pair of bathrooms awkwardly positioned in the center of the seating area. A small waiting area at the entrance. However, food wise, I would suggest there are plenty of other more appealing deep dish options. Since deep dish pizzas are large, dense, and contain plenty of energy, we opted to split a single individual sized one for lunch, the Numero Uno. It was a bit disappointing, lacking flavor yet having a very salty sausage base. I'd rate it above the disaster of a pizza place that opened in East Hanover, NJ which decided the best pizza doughs are those salted after the fact, with visible salt crystals on the perimeter. Thankfully that place didn't even survive for a week, since no patron should be marinated in such a salty ordeal. Anyways, this particular instance of deep dish delivered at Uno's would certainly rank at the bottom of deep dish pizzas I've ingested so far. This means my purchases of mail order frozen deep dish delivery, baked at home, are superior in flavor than this in restaurant rendition. Anyways, we also ordered some Buffalo cheese arancini since they were out of the others variants already. The accompanying sauces were very nice. The flavor was a pleasant fried bleu in eight crisp balls, with options of a contrasting marinara and ranch dressing for dip. As for the non-alcoholic New Fashioned, I would not bother. Quite watery; you're better off with an Old one. Finally, if this location is too busy, check out their Duo location nearby. Less historic, but pretty much the same. In the meantime, I'll mail order a few Lou Malnati pizzas to replenish my cold storage at home.

This is the pizzeria where deep-dish pizza was invented. Naturally, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit it. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the pizza was delicious and filling. We took most of it back to the hotel with us. The staff was polite and efficient. We will definitely visit it again as soon as we are in Chicago.

modified Numero Uno Deep Dish (no mushrooms or onions)
    Stacey H.

Pizzeria Uno and Due are a block from each other and a staple in the River North area, but it was a bit of a miss for me. The restaurant is certainly popular and cozy--it was busy on a Wednesday night yet service was still very fast and hospitable. I just didn't think the deep dish (45 min standard wait) was worth the wait. Had the Spinoccoli deep dish and it felt kind of lacking in sauce and flavor. My friend enjoyed a modified Numero Uno deep dish (no mushrooms or onions) though.

    Hayli Z.

I guess for all of the hype around Chicago for its pizza I had high expectations. This was better than our try at Lou Malnati's as the crust was better but it was still blah. This was the original Pizzeria Uno so it was fun to visit, but it was very cramped inside as they try to fit as many guests as possible. The appetizer we got, the arancini they don't make in house and they were actually more expensive than the personal pizza but they let you know the pizzas tale anywhere from 25 to 45 minutes. The sauce again was just very blah. Idk if it's just the deep dish style, but I have made deep dish pizza in an air fryer that I enjoyed better. It's a fun stop because of the history, but it's not worth the calories.

I'm in love with this one and only the very first and the one of only original Chicago Deep Dish Pizza House near the Magnificent Mile. I went there for the 11 o'clock opening on Wednesday to beat the crowd. The front door didn't even open until 11:15 AM. It didn't matter. The service staffs are all mature ladies except one tall young dude. All were very nice and cool. Our wait staff took the order in and took one and half hour to bring us the Unos Supreme Pizza. It was deep and delicious and deeply satisfying flavor! We loved every bite and licked the plate clean! I definitely recommend this pizzeria!

Hey... have you changed your Caesar salad dressing?

Since Julius Caesars death on March 15th 44BC we have adjusted the ingredients of his salad dressing. Thanks for your inquiry.

Is there a way to get 10 people in there on a Saturday night? This is our favorite pizza, and we'd love to come in around 6:30 or 7. They don't take reservations, do they? I don't even know where we would all wait!

We had a party of 10, waited 30 min, they let us pre-order the pan pizza. Very smooth, good service.

Up until tonight, my experiences had always been positive and the food was fantastic. Unfortunately, this visit was more than disappointing. I ordered a salad I've had at least a dozen times before, accept I added grilled chicken on top. I live for this salad and was just there maybe three weeks ago. Unaware that they have changed their menu, I ordered as usual. The name of the salad has not changed on the menu, but apparently the ingredients had been completely altered. When the dish arrived, to my surprise, it was drastically different and not something I enjoyed at all. I politely informed our server, who was kind and accommodating, and offered to replace the dish. However, it was now 6 p.m. we had tickets to see The Wiz at 7 p.m. and didn't have time to wait for another order, which I also informed her. I asked if the salad could be removed from the bill since it was essentially untouched. The server checked with the owner, who refused to remove the $30 salad or offer any kind of discount. When a restaurant changes a dish but keeps the same name, it creates a reasonable expectation for returning customers. When that expectation isn't met, basic customer service should step in. What makes this even more frustrating is that the restaurant was willing to prepare an entirely new dish, but not willing to remove the uneaten one from the bill. That simply isn't logical. If you're prepared to replace an item, it clearly acknowledges there was an issue, so refusing to comp or adjust the original charge is unreasonable. That decision was extremely disappointing. I, in-turn made the decision to eat only the additional grilled chicken on top, leaving the rest of the salad, paying the full bill and promptly getting out of there so we could be on time for our show. The only positive part of the experience was our server, who handled the situation with professionalism and kindness. Sadly, the new menu leaves much to be desired and this experience has cost Peanut Park my business and my referrals going forward.

Located at 564 W Randolph, it's a sprawling, airy space that manages to feel intimate despite its scale. Here is the breakdown of the heavy hitters from the menu: **The Truffle Mushroom Pizza** This isn't your standard wood-fired pie. The crust strikes that elusive balance between a pillowy interior and a crisp, charred exterior. The earthiness of the mushrooms is front and center, but it's the truffle that ties it together without being overpowering. It's rich, aromatic, and deeply savory--the kind of pizza that makes you forget about pepperoni entirely. **The Ricotta Dumplings** These are, quite frankly, little clouds of heaven. While many places struggle with leaden gnocchi, Alla Vita's ricotta dumplings are impossibly light. They have a delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture that acts as a perfect canvas for the sauce. Every bite feels indulgent yet airy; it is easily the "must-order" dish of the night. **The Tiramisu** To close out the meal, the Tiramisu is a sophisticated take on the classic. It isn't overly sweetened, allowing the bold espresso and creamy mascarpone to shine. It's structured but soft, providing a caffeinated, velvety finale that cleanses the palate without weighing you down. **The Verdict:** Alla Vita is more than just a "pretty" restaurant. The service is snappy, the atmosphere is electric, and the food--specifically the pasta program--is top-tier. Whether you're there for a celebratory dinner or a high-energy weeknight meal, it's a West Loop essential. **Pro Tip:** The restaurant fills up fast, so snag a reservation well in advance, especially if you're eyeing a weekend table.

The menu is set up for sharing and you might think it won't be enough but you will still have plenty leftover. Starting with warm olives, minestrone, fresh burrata and tomatoes, and galleria white bean dip with plenty of grilled bread we were content, the flavors complimented each other and were full of fresh flavor. We then moved on to pasta, tortellini with peas and prosciutto, white clam linguine and tagliatelle bolognese, each one better than the next. The perfectly cooked pasta with tons of garlic and fresh herbs, meats and cheese were incredible. When we thought we couldn't eat anything else we were offered dessert. The warm hot chocolate cake with vanilla gelato was rich and delicious and the caramel bananas with biscotti and vanilla gelato were decadent and delicious! A truly great dining experience, totally worth the close quarters.
