I can tell this place used to be very good, their pies are decent for the price. This is The type of slice that is way better the day(s) after. Ingredients aren't bad and the tomato sauce isn't super sweet which is good. Fresh slice is OK. I recommend the pizza maker tosses their pizzas for like 5 more rounds or 5more minutes. If this slice was a bit thinner/crispier I would say it's comparable to NYC. I am from CA and had NYC style in San Diego. Doesn't beat that at all but it's a decent slice. I recommend just getting a day old slice, not a fresh pizza, could take over an hour. If you're the owner reading this or just curious, check out Landini's Pizza in Little Italy, San Diego, CA. If you can replicate that, you guys will make a ton more $$$. read more

Gino's has been super solid over the years. They have great, no-nonsense service and they serve a phenomenal NY pizza. Ultra-reliable and never skimpy on the portions. Delivery and pick-up have always been easy, not too many people dine in. Their supreme pizza is hard to top, but the lasagna pizza comes close. Always order the large, it's a great value. And add some ranch/marinara on the side...if you're into that. Which I am. They also offer a crazy-big 28" pizza, it's a fun option for a party or when you're hosting a bunch of people. In four years of frequent patronage, I had one bad experience which coincided with a change in ownership about a year back. After giving them a few more chances lately, I can say they are firmly back in the saddle and making a fantastic product. read more

Looking at the pizza here from a price to quality perspective it is a bit underwhelming. For the price of the pizza, I am expecting a larger pizza and a pizza that is high in quality. Although the size of the pizza was large, the quality didn't stand out to me. The toppings were plentiful, but seemed like they were just thrown on there without much thought. GINO's is under new ownership and it shows. This used to be THE place for NY style pizza. But now under the new owners, it's horrible. The pizza seems to be made with very little yeast so the dough it pretty limp and flat, no crisp to it as it bakes in the pizza oven. The sauce definitely isn't the San Marzano tomatoes anymore. It's way to sweet. They then seem to add pre-shredded cheese on top of a prebaked pizza with only tomato sauce with whatever toppings you pick. The cheese never melts or loses its pre-shred shape. All the tables were dirty! This was a Saturday evening with maybe three patrons in the place. No silverware provided, no napkins, even the empty napkin holder was dusty. Yuck! Gino's is under new management. I had been a long time customer to GIno's Pizza on Glenwood Ave, Raleigh. Today I went in for a couple slices and it was the worst pizza I ever had. One employee asked how it was and I told him how bad it was. Almost no sauce or cheese, the most important part of the pizza. I took photos and showed the employee. He told me if you order a whole pizza, you get more sauce and cheese. I told him, it was better with the previous owner, no matter if you ordered a slice or whole pizza, the quality was the same as it should be all the time. Anyone who ordered a slice of the pizza I had today, would NEVER come back for a whole pizza so that argument made no sense. I am so disappointed as that used to be the best pizza in town. The last two times I've been I left very disappointed. The pizza didn't have much flavor to it and the crust was super thin and soggy. I stopped in at Gino's today after a busy morning of shopping. They currently have an excellent 4.5 star review on Yelp and, being a lover of NY pizza, I decided to give them a try. I chose their two pizza slice special which includes a drink. I was in a hurry and not adventurous so I went with a slice each of plain and mushroom. The slices were hot and fresh and the crusts were delicious. Overall, Gino's Pizza is great and they helped me satisfy my NY pizza craving. I did really love their pizza crust and even ate the pizza "bones." I'm giving Gino's 4/5 stars for NC pizza because I think V Pizza in Cary, NC blows them out of the water with their flavor and ingredients. read more

I have been a Gino's regular for almost 3 years now and I am so disappointed to say today was my last day ordering from them... I always get the same thing: The medium 1-topping (mushroom) pizza and garlic knott special for $19.99. The pizza had the best crust that supported the large load of toppings, and the garlic knots were always OVERflowing with garlic!! The staff who picked up the phone recognized me every time I called, and they were always so happy to greet me when I walked in. It Would have easily been a 5 star review. They have recently changed management along with the dough, pizza ratios, and they have completely cut garlic from the GARLIC knotts?! The topics fall off of the pizza and all of my knotts were burnt on the bottom. The staff is nice but not as inviting when you walk in. This was my second time ordering the take out special under new management and I'm giving 2 stars because I can't say it's the worst pizza I've ever had, it's decent pizza, but it's no longer that same authentic NY style... well as close as I'd ever found in this area. I am really sad to say that I will be on the hunt for a new, regular pizza spot. read more

If I'm being honest, I would rate this place a solid 3.5 stars. The food is really nothing special and the location is tucked away in an older shopping plaza. I had no idea it was only a few minutes from my house until the other day! I was craving garlic knots and my boyfriend wanted pizza so we found ourselves at Gino's on a Sunday afternoon. To be fair, my boyfriend really enjoys this place for the simplicity of being able to order 2 big slices of pizza (with your choice of toppings) + a drink at a really affordable price. The pizza is also not bad. I ordered just one slice of cheese and he got 2 slices, one pepperoni and one sausage. I actually thought the pizza was the best part of the meal. However, I was really underwhelmed with the garlic knots. They did not really satisfy my craving and I am not a fan of the clearly bottled garlic and processed parm used to top each ball of bread. Fresh garlic makes such a big difference! I also was not a fan of the side salad and thought that the ranch was super goopy and unappetizing. I appreciate the amount of toppings they add for it just being a side salad, though. I would come back again but would stick to pizza - probably one of the combo meals they offer. New owner has problems understanding business practices with tax of North Carolina. I'm always talking to him about how he charges me too many taxes. He does not accept coupons that he honors for advertising. He'll tell you that they are no longer valid after you paid for them. Beware they will take your money any way they can. read more

As a native of New Jersey and Chicago, I'm always on the lookout for great pizza. Well in heart of Tobacco Road, in North Carolina, I found one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The staff was really friendly, even when my foam cup exploded when I tried to make sure the lid was on tight. They cleaned it quickly and gave me a new cup. Thankfully they didn't give me a hard time, which they could have. Anyway onto the pizza. We split a medium, tomato and bacon one side, since that's moms favorite. The other was sausage and mushroom, since the quality of the sausage goes a long way in determining the quality of a pizza parlor for me. The crust came out perfectly crispy all the way to the bottom of the slice, but with still enough chew. The quality of toppings was fantastic, especially the thinly sliced sausage. My only problem was there wasn't enough sauce. In some spots, I could barely taste it. So if I'm able to return, since I live 3 hours away, I'd return, but I need that extra sauce! read more

First off, ain't no true NY pizza have more than 8 slices in a Large Pie! I ordered a Large pie and it came cut into 12 slices, wtf is that about?! But let's bring it back to the initial annoyance with this spot. I went in, it was DEAD! No one but employees there. They had no slices available, told me it would take 20min to get a slice. I'm not a wizard, but if you trying to come here as a quick stop for a slice, it ain't happening! Anyway, I opted for a large pie, girl told me 40-50min! WHAT IN THE HECK!?!?! Either they do not have enough ovens, which it looked like they did, or the workers don't know how to pump out a quick and easy pizza like a true NY Pizzeria! Alright, so, I decided to wait, because this place was recommended to me as a "true" NY pizza spot. Oh, how they were highly mistaken. As stated earlier, I finally received the pizza and it was cut into 12 slices, not what I wanted and doesn't make sense. The pizza was trash! Didn't even look fresh, it looked like it was sitting for a bit and not on a heated surface either. You know...just like when you leave the pizza on a countertop after bringing it home and the cheese just hardens up a bit? Yea, that's how it looked. Presentation, flavor, and all around experience was damn near below other NC pizza spots around. Maybe people from NC are fans of this place cause they never truly tasted a REAL NY pizza slice, but as someone truly looking forward to finding a spot that made me feel like I was back at home, this missed the spot COMPLETELY! What a let down. To my fellow NYC pizza connoisseurs, expect disappointment. I also gave this place such a low rating because the girl at front desk, zero customer service skills, probably not her fault, probably new, but it felt like she didn't want to be there and rather go back to her conversation she was having with other employees and wanted nothing to do with me when I was ordering. It also felt as if she was trying to get me to not order by scaring me away with wait times. All other workers were just minding their business, no welcome greeting or anything. I've been a happy customer of Gino's for years. The original owners treated their customers like family, and made everyone feel welcome and appreciated. The food was top-notch, portions generous. The dining room and restrooms were always spotlessly clean. I'm sad to report that the new owners have ruined this place. I've made three visits before posting this review, in hopes that the situation was simply the "growing pains" of a new business. Unfortunately, it appears this isn't the case. The staff makes no secret of the fact that they find customers annoying. They're surly and curt, as if they can't be bothered with customer service. When you dine in, you no longer get your food on a reusable silver tray. Now, the staff brings your food in a pizza box, launches it onto your table, and walks away without even making eye contact. The dining room is filthy- nobody wipes down tables between customers. The floor is in dire need of mopping. The bathroom had no soap, the same filthy floor as out front, and used paper towels everywhere. But the worst is by far the food. I always ordered my pizza well done- I like a little crunch to the crust. . Gino and his staff always remembered that, and were very accommodating. Yesterday, they completely ignored my request. And when I opened the box that had been flung across my table, I found a limp mess of undercooked pizza with huge air bubbles on the top. It's heartbreaking to see what's become of Gino's. Three times now I've ordered over the phone and they have given me a 25-30 minute wait time, just to show up and wait another 45 minutes to an hour on top of that. When Gino's opened 13 years ago, after trying his pizza several times, I walked in and mentioned to him first of all, this pizza is fantastic. Secondly, I have watched several pizza places open in the area, doing the right thing initially with good ingredients and good quality and consistency - and then they changed. They changed their cheese, they changed their toppings, they changed their sauce - all to save money. Gino said to me 'If the price of pepperoni goes up, if the price of cheese goes up, the price of my pizza goes up. But I'm not changing my recipe'. Gino held to that promise for all the time he ran the shop. I'm guessing the shop has changed hands at this point because I don't see Gino or either of the John's and ALL of those ingredients have changed in less than a couple of months time. My message to the new owners: please go back to all of the original ingredients in Ginos recipe and all of the toppings that were previously used. Give us back what we have all come to love. (Or consider changing the business name) Then reply to this review and any other yelp review that has indicated that things have obviously changed and tell us all to come back and try again, letting us know you understand how important that quality experience and consistency was and you have gone back to the tried and true recipe and ingredients that made Gino's famous. If you do this, I will come back and others will hopefully come back as well. If you do not, you will continue to lose customers as they go in and try and see how things have changed and walk away in disappointment. Big pieces but the topping was a thin layer of cheese, pepperoni and a rubbery crust I could hardly chew.
