I'm sorry to do this but the food was nothing special. I got the Kung pao beef with peanuts and it was just tons of soy sauce covering the beef, green peppers and celery. The rice was nothing special and the soy sauce was just so overpowering that the quality of the food just was not great. No authentic flavor and beef was somewhat rubbery. I was craving Americanized Chinese food and while I searched many restaurants, Ginger Tree had exactly what I was looking for: combo plate of crab Rangoon, chicken fingers, boneless spareribs, and pork fried rice. I also added on wonton soup for a dollar and bought beef terriyaki as an app. All for under 12 bucks! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and was happy to find that none of the meal was greasy and the boneless spareribs were very lean cuts, which was great. To ensure the safety of their employees and customers, Ginger Tree has a door with a box where you can grab your food in a non contact way. You call them once you're there and will get you your food once it's ready. You can place the order online or by phone. I will definitely be ordering from here again! read more

Definitely a hidden jewel type of place in the town of Westford Massachusetts. Our regular place for lunch was closed they were doing repairs so we kept on looking and then decided to just pick a place on the side road so put it in the map we were looking for and it took us right to the front door of the ginger tree restaurant. We got a egg foo young luncheon special which is good from 11 to 3 it was $6.95 they had two huge egg foo Youngs on it with fried rice and three chicken tenders the batter-on the tenders were light and fluffy the egg foo young was cooked perfectly almost like a very light scrambled egg it was so fluffy like an omelette the fried rice was chock-full of fresh vegetables as well as big chunks of pork and the size was ample we had a little bit in the car and will take the rest home to eat it for later the gravy was served separately as well as the chicken tender so nothing was w other moisture are wet and everything like sometimes they do. they do take out and delivery only as I believe they probably did before the Covid. Because the inside was not very big from what I could see. But it was definitely clean and well-kept nice and the people were very friendly. We will deathly come back here again on our next trip north. Looking forward to trying something else. I ordered lunch takeout from Ginger Tree, located next door to Westford Ace Hardware. The place is small, which is an order at the counter place with self serve dine in seating. The kitchen is not visible from the front area. Anyways, I ordered the L15 Kung Pao Shrimp With Peanuts ($7.25) served with pork fried rice and choice of appetizer (I got chicken fingers) and added Hot & Sour Soup for $1 more. The food was ready to go very quickly in about 5 minutes. I go outside and I open the takeout box of hot food, which is a good portion of pork fried rice, chicken fingers, and Kung Pao Chicken???? I immediately return inside the restaurant with the takeout box and the lady immediately goes, "Did we mess up?" I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp and not the L5 Kung Pao Chicken (which is $6.50). The lady says "sorry" and brings the takeout box back into the kitchen. 4 minutes later, Kung Pao Shrimp, checking the box before leaving this time. The hot & sour soup was mildly spicy. The pork fried rice (tan color) had a soft texture, mix of egg, scallions, onions, and small pieces of roast pork. The main dish had a spicy taste with a mix of mostly celery, water chestnuts, peanuts, peppers, onions, and a few jumbo shrimp (cleaned). The chicken fingers were crispy outside (not too greasy) with strips of white meat chicken inside. The food was overall pretty decent. It's also a good thing I checked my food before even driving off for NH. A similar screw up happened at another Chinese takeout place in Amherst, NH where I got the wrong food, but I was already miles away back at home. read more

This place is our go-to Chinese restaurant when we are craving your typical Americanized Chinese fare. It is a takeout place, with a couple of tables there. I have never had any thoughts about the food standing out particularly terrible. That being said, my favorite thing to eat there is the coconut shrimp. They do a very good job with those shrimp. They also do a great job with their bean curd. Definitely your run-of-the-mill Chinese place for takeout and they get the job done. :-) have never gotten sick or had any issues with my order. We order from Ginger Tree about half the time we get Chinese mostly because we can order online; having dinner arrive at your door, hot and paid for and without having to talk to anybody to make it happen is one of the benefits of living in the future. Most of the time, it's passable - easy and cheap trumped any notion of it being excellent - but this last time I ordered it was like it came from a different restaurant than we were used to. We ordered a pu-pu platter; everything was perfectly fried (less common than it should be), the pork smoky and lean, the egg rolls loaded with vegetables and just greasy enough, the wings salty and wonderful. We got some udon dish, too, which was certainly good enough (though...odd) and the hot and sour tasted nothing like the overly thick, rewarmed, flavorless stuff we usually got out of habit. Maybe we just got lucky and hit them up right after the oil was changed in the fryer or something, or maybe at a slow time when they had more time than usual to keep an eye on every aspect of our order, maybe they're under new management, or maybe the stars aligned in a way beneficial to our luck. Whatever the case may be, this was the best all-round Chinese delivery experience, beginning to end, that I'd had in a long time. read more

This is some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The food here tastes very off. I got a combo lunch special (Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice, Egg Roll). I couldn't eat much of it at all and ended up throwing the rest away. The pork fried rice was greasy and lacked any real flavor. The chow mein was horrible, both smell and taste. Egg roll was also really greasy and had that same weird flavor that permeated everything. so first of all I would like to address the problem, half of our order had beef in it and the beef was overcooked (as expected) tip: don't get steak anywhere but a steak house. But any ways it was VERY chewy but tasted really good so I'm am not too angry with that. but the rest of our food was good and I would love to go again. We have never been here before and looking for a place for my boyfriend to stop on his way home from work. I noticed this place didn't have many stars but thought we would give it a try. I called and ordered for pickup: a pu-pu platter for two and a small Pork fried rice, the woman said "ok ya, goodbye". Thought it was odd she never asked for a name? The food was hot and fresh and really, really good! I really dislike fatty spareribs and these were all meat. And then there was this sauce... it was like a pineapple sauce (i thought it was sweet and sour) and my boyfriend said no the lady told me it was ginger sauce? And we opened a large house rice that was awesome too, it had real medium sautéed shrimp, not those tiny 1/4 inch little shrimps! Its then that my phone rang and it was the woman telling me my food it still there for pick up. I explained to her twice that we already picked up our order and we are eating it! She said "oh" and hung up. That's when we realized we got someone else's order! Oops! They ordered the same thing except the rice was different.. Maybe ask for a name next time?! I have been searching and searching for good Chinese restaurants in the Lowell area. I received a menu in the mail from Ginger Tree and thought I would give it a try. It was great that this place delivered to us, because we are in the next town over and little far away, but the food was not that great. We ordered: Chicken wings. $6.50 There were OK, a little greasy and bland. Spareribs $9.50 I thought this was a little pricey, but I adore my ribs. The ribs were a little burned and dry, but actually tasted OK. Chicken with broccoli, $9.50. the sauce was very heavy and the dish a little greasy. The flavor was bland. Crispy Pan fried noodles with vegetables. This is my all time favorite Chinese dish,and hard to find in this area so I was thrilled to see it on the menu. The noodles were soggy, and the vegetables were in a heavy sauce that was almost identical to the chicken with broccoli. Quite bland and very disappointing. Chicken curry: $9.50. another favorite dish of mine. This order was less heavy and greasy than the others, and the spice of the curry gave it some kick. It was pleasant, but not as good as I have had in other places. Over all it was OK. I have definitely had much better Chinese food and will not try Ginger Tree again. I had not ordered from Ginger Tree for a very long time; last experience wasn't great so I was not in a rush to go back. This time around was not any better. We ordered egg foo yong, vegetable lo mein, chicken teriyaki and scallion pancakes. Not the healthiest choices, but it was what everyone wanted! So, the lo mein was probably the best option here followed by the scallion pancakes. The egg foo yong had no seasoning and even the gravy was bland. The chicken teriyaki was was so dry I thought it was beef jerky! Other than the chicken, everything was greasy. I went through a lot of paper towels trying to sop up the oil. A sign went up for Ginger Tree months before they opened and we waited (hungrily) for the open sign to light up. We have been ordering from them ever since. Positives: - Jessica, who answers the phone, is always so sweet and they have my name and address memorized because we order so often. In fact, went I went in to pick up an order last week, they were surprised because we usually order in. - For some things I definitely rate them better than other local places (I'm looking at you, Bamboo, with your always freezer-burned-tasting appetizers and tired buffet). - I am not a big fan of egg rolls, since I hate celery. The egg rolls at Ginger Tree have minimal to no celery. Big points for that. - Pan friend Peking ravioli (I hate that term) and shrimp shao mai are always good. - They are always very accommodating when I have my craving for won tons in sesame sauce. It's not on the menu, but they make it anyway. - The egg foo young is tasty and feeds my comfort food cravings, but the sauce is not the traditional brown sauce. It's kind of orange in color. - They always do a good job on the Mongolian beef and beef with ginger and scallions. - Chow fun is a big favorite as are the Szechuan green beans and moo shu. Negatives: - The food can be inconsistent, which is disappointing. - The sesame beef is almost inedible because it's so tough. - The appetizer size order of crab rangoon is eight pieces, which is A LOT of fried cream cheese-y goodness. I could not remember if I liked theirs or not, so I asked if I could get a half order. No one else in my house eats them and the options of either cold crab rangoon or reheated crab rangoon did not seem like viable choices. They were accommodating, as always, but before we got off the phone, the man I was talking to said they would do a half order this time, but not again. I think they should update their menu and give a small or large ordering option for my beloved crab rangoon, as t hey do for chicken fingers. A negative that turned into a positive: When we order they always say 20 minutes and for every order they have been right (we live really close by), except for one time where they were over an hour late. We had to call to cancel the order, but the next day there was a very apologetic note on the door, explaining there was a new driver. We ordered from them again and have not had an issue since. I went there a few months ago and thought I'd try it after reading some good reviews. Food was not that good and the order was messed up. So I thought I would give them one more chance so I went and ordered the food and when I got it home items were missing which they told me i NEVER ORDERED and the food was really bad I ended up throwing out the sweet and sour chicken and the egg rolls and after that there was only white rice and soup left which we did eat. My boyfriend and I ordered delivery online. Multiple times we put on the online form to "call upon arrival." He paid with his credit card online upon placing the order. He lives in an apartment that is essentially the basement of another home; the entrance is around the back. So we waited about an hour for the food, and then went outside to check. The driver had delivered the food to the woman upstairs, a 96 year old woman with dementia. Obviously we weren't going to go take the food from an old woman. That's just mean. So I called the restaurant to explain the situation. He told me to "hold on" and then put the phone down for five minutes (not on hold, just put it down). I ended up hanging up and calling back. When I explained again what had happened the man told me he would make new food and send it to us. I thanked him and asked him to make sure that when the driver got there that he would call my boyfriend's cell phone. This would enable us to come outside and get the food. So another hour goes by and still no food, or phone call. My boyfriend then called the restaurant. The man told my boyfriend that the driver had gone to the house and had been told that no food had been ordered. Keep in mind that he had already delivered food to this woman, who told him the first time (presumably) that she had not ordered food. So he then went back to the same woman and tried to deliver her more food? While the woman was lucky enough to get some free food out of the deal, it still must have been very disorienting for her (and probably the driver, but I'll get to that). Eventually, my boyfriend manages to make it clear to the man on the phone that the order we paid for never got to us. Considering we had given specific instructions multiple times to ensure that it would, we were obviously not at fault. They did offer us a refund, but all we really wanted was our food so they decided to make us new food (again) and send it to us (again). Once again my boyfriend told them to make sure that he was called when the driver got to the house. We waited outside for half an hour, and saw the car pull into the driveway. I went up to meet him and told him what had happened. The man obviously did not speak a great deal of English, but was able to understand the situation when I told him what had happened. What I really can't understand is why couldn't the man who was taking our phone calls explain to the delivery driver to simply call us when he arrived; it wouldn't need to be a long conversation. The restaurant also could have called when he left so we would have an idea and know when to go out and wait, if he didn't have a phone. That would be perfectly reasonable: if he didn't have a cell phone, they could have just told us and given us a time estimate. At least someone should have told him that the upstairs of the house was not the right address and if he wanted to he could have gone around back to knock. We had also explained that on the phone with the man at the restaurant. I think the situation was a result of very poor communication and management. While the delivery driver spoke fairly broken English, he seemed to understand when I told him there was an apartment downstairs. I just don't want this to sound like a tirade about language because that is far from the truth. I think the restaurant is very poorly run, and whoever was answering the phone did not care at all about his job (or the fact that people pay good money for a service, and it should be done correctly). I did not get the feeling he had relayed any message whatsoever to the delivery driver. The poor man was just staring at receipts for a while in his car when he got there for the third time. I eventually went up and knocked on the window and explained what had happened. Anyway, after a solid three hours, we were so hungry the food was good. In all reality, it actually was very good, so there's the silver lining. I definitely don't think its worth the three hour wait however. Maybe just don't get delivery. Or maybe they should find a different person to answer the phone. read more

I live less than 5 miles away it should not take over an hour to get dinner for three. Also the food is luke warm when it arrives. I just ordered dinner on a Saturday night through their online system. It arrived 12 minutes ahead of the time I was given and everything came out of the bag very hot. I live just under 6 miles away, if that matters. After tasting everything, I am very pleased with what we got. The rice, lo-mien, chicken fingers, beef with mushroom, egg roll, and scallion pancakes are all exactly what I would expect from a solid takeout/delivery Chinese food joint. Plenty of duck sauce, soy sauce and mustard. What else could you want in this category of restaurant? I read many of the reviews here and I definitely did not see any evidence of the most commonly noted issues. I would not hesitate to get delivery from the Ginger Tree again. read more

We ordered from here last night because all of the other area restaurants had very limited New Year's Eve's menus and here there were only a couple of restrictions. The food was ready for pick-up a half hour after we ordered it. (5:30pm). It was hot--it was delicious-- surprising to me on crazy busy New Year's Eve when, in most restaurants in my experience, it is often neither.
