Called me up after i placed an order to upcharge me $1.67 for an egg in the fried rice (rice was gross either way) Typical dishes are made "differently" here, ordered chow mein. Got a bowl of coagulated chicken and cabbage. Best suggestion. Dont look inside this place either. More often than not, we'll end up doing a deliver order from Ginger Root to our apartment because we know we'll get a good deal on both regular and special rolls. Ginger Root does well being a jack-of-all trades type of Japanese/Chinese restaurant. There's a huge variety to choose from, and a lot of opportunities to try it all. For sushi - the combination deals being available beyond lunch is something unique. Usually local sushi restaurants end it at 3pm, allowing for only a la carte after that. It's nice to know I can still order a 2 or 3 roll combination for dinner with miso soup and salad. It's a great deal! As for the special sushi rolls, they have a whopping 31 different options; they all have their own unique flair. I never had a roll with plantains in it, but it was surprisingly good (Jamaican Me Crazy). Top rolls between boyfriend and I are the Sunset Roll, Lava Roll (his self-proclaimed all-time favorite), and Four Season Roll. The thing I personally like most about Ginger Root is it's all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. For its price and the variety of what's offered, it's usually at the top of my options for when I want a little bit of everything at lunch. First off, it's quick and self-serve. Though some may be deterred by this model, as a professional in the area looking for the maximum use of my lunch hour, Ginger Root does very well in meeting that requirement. On days where I'm rushed, I can be seated, eat various types of sushi, have some lo mein, General Tso's chicken, and get out in 30 min. It's very convenient in that manner! Chef's Choice is how the sushi rolls are laid out, but I can see that no matter what part of the lunch hour I come in, I see them constantly making new rolls to put out. Good mix of regular California, Salmon Avocado, Chicken Tempura rolls, but also sushi by piece, and even some special and deep fried rolls. In the center is all the options that range from Mei Fun (thin stir fry rice noodle), Lo Mein, Beef and Broccoli, Fried Shrimp, Seafood Combination, and more. Only thing missing may be some egg drop or hot and sour soup in a pot offered at lunch time. Lots to choose from at lunch regardless. When you look at Ginger Root for what makes it unique against other Japanese / Chinese restaurants in the area, it really does offer a lot. (This review is for their $8.95 lunch buffet) If you equate Chinese buffets with grease, fried everything, grease, and more grease, you will be as stunned as I was with the very good quality and choices from Ginger Root. First of all, they have fresh sushi made in front of your eyes by a sushi guy -all sorts of Nigiri and Maki - I enjoyed every one. Fresh, clean tasting, just really good. The hot buffet was one table, so you didn't see the repetitive dozens of trays with the ususal suspects. Lots of dim sum, though, and they were very good. I stuck mostly with the dim sum and sushi, and avoided the General Tso and Beef and Broccoli and Lo Mein and rice dishes. I did try a seafood curry -shrimp, scallops, squid -and it was wonderful -great zippy flavor and fresh! I didn't see any soups out, I did see a nice dessert table with fruit and cake, but I didn't go there. The place is small -4 booths and 8 tables. Very convenient to order delivery via the Yelp app EAT24...seamless process. I liked the numerous YELP reviews and pictures, so while I could have dined in the restaurant I chose to order delivery. Online I order an appetizer called shrimp toast...what arrived was a triangle dough with perhaps a shrimp stuffing topping...I didn't like it, I'm not sure what I thought it would be but it certainly wasn't anything that I have knowingly eaten before... ...I also ordered a hot & sour soup. For my entree, I went round and round, having a hard time deciding on just what to order...I finally focused upon the Shrimp Tempura Dinner box...it comes with a small cup of miso soup, steamed rice and a salad. All said and done...the meal arrived at my hotel very timely, it was warm and tasty. Be prepared when you order delivery...it isn't free. Come here at least once a week for the lunch buffet. What a great deal! The food here is always fresh and delicious. Huge fan of the sushi buffet. Come here primarily for the sushi which is continuously made throughout lunch so you are never let waiting for new rolls. Fish is always fresh and very tasty. All the hot food seems home made and replaced throughout lunch. They have a small assortment of desserts. Can't beat the price, even if you come here just for the sushi the $9.99 lunch buffet price tag is incredible and is a hidden gem in the area. Enjoyed the lunch buffet! The restaurant was empty when we arrived so we were able to get first pick of seating. It was a smaller setup but included a variety of standard options. I loved the fried sushi and lo mein as well as their General Tso's. The sushi was limited in variety but very good. I was concerned regarding allergens but staff reassured me only imitation crab was used, their very helpful. I felt the food could have been warmer however, noticing the refilling of entrees was only done once as more people entered. I would recommend it if you are in the area and want a value priced sit down Chinese restaurant. We did not try the Japanese items. They run a small buffet at certain hours also. Me and ginger root...we have a bit of a history. I won't bore you with the details, but when they first started their sushi was pretty good, but nothing special. then there was a bit of time where their food was incinerated and the sushi was not very fresh. Now with my go-to chinese place cheaping out on their rice and boneless spare ribs (R.I.P Luen hop), I decided to give ginger root a couple more tries, see if they got any better First off, their sushi is serviceable but a bit much for the area. bought a philly roll, a spicy tuna and a spicy salmon. rice was about right for consistency, missing rice wine so it tasted like white rice. fish was okay, portions were okay. overall, didn't die but wasn't anything to call home about. Their other fare? well if you ever been to any other crappy Chinese restaurant, you know the deal: fatty meats with way too much sugary sauce placed on them, pork eggroll with no pork and pork fried rice with no pork and no flavor. not good, but not nasty so it was edible at least. on main street manchester, I only know of about 3 chinese places. in comparison to those, this is probably the middle child of the three. mainly because the "standard Chinese place" is absolutely horrid and the top rank place is okay at best. not a fan, but if your in a pinch it will do. read more

Ok... So fiance and I were NEEDING sushi in our life and it was 930 on a Monday night. As you can see from my last review I was/am absolutely fed up with this place... Well hunger and lack of ANY other sushi in the area.... We did what we swore we never would do again. We ordered from ginger root The guy whom we placed the order with told us 45 minutes as per usual. Wasn't really friendly at all and rushed me off phone so fast he almost forgot to take my credit card number. And in typical Ginger Root fashion we waited for over an hour. When the driver got here didn't call and say "hi your foods here" we got a call "yea food here open door" very snarkily like a command rather than a customer facing employee... What did we expect right? As for the food: This time around can't complain about the food. It was all fresh and made well. Please see pics. My rating this time has increased to two stars... I'll never order sushi for pick up again! It's so much easier to just drive over and have the $9 all you can eat buffet they set up at lunch time. Fresh fruit, fresh sushi, and they usually have fried sushi, green beans, rice, and some totally amazing noodles. If you were to order a few rolls for pickup, it'd be almost $15. It's so much more worth it if you're in the EH area to just come in, sit down, and eat as much sushi as you can during your lunch break. Highly recommend it! read more

My total, $29.43!!! I paid and went to sit in the car. Right now I am doing the Makayla Maroney's "I'm not impressed" face as I am writing this review. The price for the all you can eat sushi lunch buffet is reasonably priced at $8.99 per individual and they do continuously prepare their sushi as lunchtime progresses, but I am still not impressed with the variety or quality that they put out and would consider most, if not all, of the sushi that they had at their buffet to be basic rolls. One major thing that I noticed while eating their sushi was that the rice was over seasoned with vinegar and I really had to look for the other components of the sushi when eaten as a whole. When I am eating sushi, I usually expect it to be well-balanced, which was seriously lacking at Ginger Root. The service could be a little bit better since there were stacks of plates on my table on a day that I would consider to be quiet for lunch time. The server only came once to clear the table. ANOTHER MAJOR THING that I have to point out is that there was a lack of care in prepping their fish for their nigiri because I felt a pin bone when I had one of their salmon nigiri. Overall, $8.99 is reasonable for all you can eat sushi, but only if you don't care about quality or variety. It's what you get for what you paid for in the end. read more

I have been coming here for lunch for several years now, essentially the day after they reopened as the GInger Root. It is simply fantastic. We actually went five times one week. There's enough variety on the buffet to keep your interest. The sushi bar is what really gets me though! They serve three different platters of freshly made sushi. A normal hand rolls platter. But not just CA rolls. Good chunks of fish and fixin's without excessive rice (like Misaki's for instance). A sushi platter with the standards like salmon and tuna. But they also mix it up with yellow tail, octopus, and egg date maki. The third platter is fancy rolls. Spicy tuna with crunchy top, rainbow rolls, eel, avocado etc... There's also a hot food section with various fried items, a noodle dish, a chicken dish and a vegetarian dish are the usual staples. Then the remaining dishes are changed up with things like spicy beef, winter melon stir fry or mixed seafood every time you go. Really well done. There is a dessert buffet, with seaweed salad and cucumbers. Ok well that's not dessert but you can never have enough veggies ha. There's coconut macaroons and fresh fruit too, as well as some other sweets. Lastly, over the years I have gotten to know the owners and they are good friendly people. The roll arrived and it was just the sushi roll, no soup, no salad. We called and they said that you had to order two rolls to get the soup/salad which is NOT stated anywhere on their website. The bald-headed delivery driver was extremely rude demanding to be tipped more. Which is unfortunate because I'm a loyal customer to Ginger Root but won't be ordering anymore. Usually, I spend about $60+ just in delivery...but this driver was insane! I was very polite to him and he said that if he comes to the door he thinks he should be tipped more. Even though he didn't greet me, wasn't very courteous and they forgot to give me forks...not to mention writing all over the menu they gave me! He was ready to shake me down because he wanted a few more dollars and screamed at me! I felt extremely threatened because he was aggressive enough for my neighbors to approach me asking me if I was okay. I let them know about my experience and how I did tip him but he acts like he was my server in a restaurant and should be tipped as such. Welp, now my neighbors know where to never order!! I've been coming here with my infant daughter (now a toddler) for 3 years now. It's very family-friendly. The sushi is phenomenal and fresh! The food is also wonderfully cooked. This is a family run business and they make you feel at home. Grandma/grandpa cooks in the back (so it's pretty authentic). It is a smaller/cozier place so it was great for me to keep an eye on my baby at the booth while I went and got food. Gingeroot has lunch buffets from Monday to Saturday for $7.99 which is an AWESOME deal for the great sushi and Chinese dishes. I come here like every week. It's also the only place my daughter pigs out and finally actually eats some food. The menu food is also great. I had Peking duck here and shrimp and walnuts and it was great. The other thing is you see quite a lot of Chinese people eating here (I'm Chinese too) - the secret of knowing if the Chinese food is good is if you see a lot of Chinese people there. read more

I called to let them know and they said that's the way they are made, may be I don't know better essentially. I even took pictures - a tablespoon at best. I was told to come back and they would give me another. So I did and they basically said I had to show proof and tell them who I spoke to in order to give me another order. Good thing I had photos and a name. After 10 minutes then sucame to the said noodle replacement, guess what same thing all over again. The prices were extremely cheap and the pictures in the menu were tempting. I ordered a dinner combo which included ham friend rice, general Tso chicken, and an egg roll. They had no cokes by the can so I had to order a 2 liter bottle. Believe it or not, I chugged it down that same night after all that sodium in the food. After placing my order, the food was at my hotel room door in exactly 45 minutes. The food was bundled up in the same container except for the egg roll. The rice was OK but nothing like fried rice I have ever tried. The General Tso chicken had a frozen not fresh taste at all. The egg roll was crispy and seemed like it was just fried. About the only thing that went well with me. Next time I will take the walk or drive somewhere else and pay a little extra for good fresh food. read more
