Did I have a fun night? yes! But would I be a repeat customer for Ginger? No!
Three stars, more like 5 stars, but some big concerns (the bad -, and the ugly one) that make it 3 stars.
The context: We went with a reasonable group, about 20 people. Dinner and a total of 6 hours of karaoke booked.
The good:
- quick response from a booking perspective
- decently organized and opening on time(ish)
- decent food. Its a 20 euro dinner at a karaoke bar, don't expect a piece of excellent meat, there is a reason they serve burgers and spareribs
- Flexible to allocate groups and people, billing, etc. Ample options on how to handle things
- Yes, the karaoke is geared towards Chinese. And the search function doesn't work well. But they try to make it work and provide some good options with a USB. Tip: just add more content to the USB for your western customer base. Take the Top 2000 list or something.
(some comments refer to bad food. Its not "bad", it's just more a bar with food options than a real restaurant).
The bad:
- Staff is just simply not up to standard in terms of attitude. Do they to what they should? yes. But the bare minimum. They have an attitude of being there cause the have to, its the grind. One group out, next one in, rinse and repeat. Now, in the hospitality industry a good place will manage to convey a feeling of care and gratitude. to their customers. Ginger does not. At least not the staff we encountered.
The Ugly:
- Independently, several members of the group had strong suspicion of tampering with the drinks! In more detail:
-- Some had a bad feeling regarding the cocktails. They tasted "diluted". You might say, well, cocktails are made differently in different places. And I agree.
-- However, other members order the same out of bottle drink (lets say a whiskey, or some other liqueur) for for over ten years (really obsessed one could say). They know how it tastes to the finest detail. That's why they always order it! But at Ginger? it tastes different. It tastes *diluted*. When not one, but multiple of these instances happen the same night, the same place, with different people, you have to ask some questions.
Is it a bartender trying to skim a bit on the side? maybe trying to save a few bucks? or did they just buy some cheap off brand stuff and put in the same bottle? We all know the tricks.
The point is if you have to *think* about these things is enough reason already to not go back.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend going here until management has looked into this and publicly addressed these concerns. read more
