Food was really good. Went there specifically for the intestines. It didn't disappoint. The portion was perfect. Service was really friendly too. read more

restaurant is dirty. service is very slow. bbq equipment broken. food is not even at a mediocre level. will never come back again

I come here only for their amazing Bossam and Kimchi Stew. They make very good Kimchi. Now, I have decided that I will only take those to go only if I crave it so much. Their service is HORRIBLE. This time we never got seated by the waiter so we just sat after standing there for 10 minutes. The waiter seemed busy but he definitely saw us and didn't do anything about it. After that, It took literally one hour to get one kimchi stew here. The waiter then would ask if we want the rice. I mean, who eats kimchi stew without rice?! I will never return here after continuous horrendous service. Lastly, their Bibimbap has too much rice, which makes it so bad. When my friend got it, the rice was cooked bad so it was too sticky to even mix. When I ordered Beef tofu stew there, it tasted too weirdly sweet. They put marinated bulgogi into the tofu stew so the whole thing was too sweet. I have never seen anywhere that makes tofu stew sweet. Other foods I have ordered were also pretty bad for my authentic Korean taste. Their original fried chicken was alright though. It has too much curry powder so sweet& spicy one is too overwhelming. --------------------------------------- Long story short: Only get Bossam or Kimchi Stew here and take it TO GO. Their service is horrible. read more

Fried chicken was perfectly cool: crispy thin batter and moist inside. Don't bother the spicy version as it's not spicy just sweet. Tofu soup was ok; a little bland and runny for my taste. Ban Chan were ok. read more

My experience with this Gilson restaurant was the worst. The way they handle the customers are awful. Had to wait nearly 2 hours outside just to be seated. I am super disappointed with their service and the employee here was super disrespectful. I will not be returning here. read more

I've had fried chicken, budae jjigae (kimchi stew with ramen noodles, spam, etc.), bulgogi ddukbaegi (soup), yangnyum makchang (marined intestine) and makchang bokkum (stir-fried intestine). I only approve of the intestines, they're cooked very well. This place is well-known for those dishes. However, the other dishes are just okay... I think I could have better korean food somewhere else. I haven't tried the bossam yet, but maybe I will one day if I feel the need to come back to this place. read more

This location has changed a lot over the years, with new owners, etc. I'm not exactly sure when the current owners took over, but I was pleasantly surprised. My mom goes to this place when she needs catering for large crowds-- they're very good and fairly affordable. Their lunch deals are also tasty and very affordable. read more

It would probably take weeks to hit up all the Korean restaurants up here! I'm slowly making my rounds and finally went here for lunch. They have an awesome $7 kalbi lunch special. The sides were pretty good and the meat was tasty. It isn't the best Korean in town, but for the price - it's worth it. Make my rating 3.5 stars for the nice service! read more

While Gilson has a full range of Korean offerings, there are two items which sets it apart from other restaurants which are bossam (steamed pork wrapped in lettuce) and fried chicken. The bossam is extremely soft and very flavorful and is delisious on it's own. Fried wings are also very good either seasoned or not. Service, however, can be very slow. I haven't tried some of the more traditional dishes but Gilson is known for these two and for good reason. read more

Lights! Just look for the pretty twinkling lights on the west side of Highway 99 in Edmonds and you can't miss it. We stopped in late one night when we were craving something hearty and warm. Our food arrived quickly: some mandu and a scalding bowl of BooDae JjiGae seasoned nicely with a hearty helping of gochujang! I wished that our server was a little more attentive but she was friendly. We will definitely return to see if they can gain another star. read more

Overall the food is really good, the service is pretty good too as a Korean restaurant since I'm not a Korean(if you know what I meant....) I would give a 4 stars if the price could be lower and the side dishes could be better! The only side dish I like is the steam egg. Korean BBQ is really good but a little bit over price to me. Fried chicken wings I would prefer stars in the sky more there here. Bossam is pretty tasty! Will come back agin for Bossam! read more

Nothing to complain about here. We had a hankerin' for some Korean food late one night and had a hard time finding anything that was open and decent. I've heard about Gilson before but never really made my way there since it's in a weird spot on Highway 99 that I don't prefer driving to. But we came in and asked if they'll still serve food and she welcomed us in. We got the 2 types of chicken wings and a soup. All of it was really good and there was a good variety of banchan that the waitress gladly refilled. I have no complaints there! The service was really good, she was polite and never rushed us. I hear their lunch specials are of decent price and decent size, so I guess I'll have to come back to try that! read more

This place is a good option for a variety of diners; whether you're wanting traditional Korean staples or looking to drink/eat the night away with soju and fried chicken, this place offers both. The dishes we enjoyed the most were their bibimbap and fried chicken. The kfc had a satisfying crunch and came in 2 flavors. Their bibimbap had the usual assortment but was well done. Their soon dubu was lacking in taste; the spiciness level isn't quite there yet. I'm sure it was unusually busy because it was New Years, but they seemed really understaffed. Waiters seemed nice but it took us 10+ mins to get a box for our leftovers and another wait to get our check. read more

Stars In The Sky was closed when we got there so we ended up driving down the street to this place. We ordered fried chicken (half sweet/spicy and half regular), spicy squid stir fry and the seafood pancake. Of the 3 dishes, I only enjoyed the squid. It was very flavorful with a good mix of squid and veggies. The fried chicken on the other hand was just ok to me. Instead of serving a whole chicken chopped up into smaller pieces... they were all little drumsticks and wings. The seafood pancake was below average for sure. I didn't like the flavor and it wasn't crispy enough for me. Last, but not least... the food took forever to come out. The place wasn't busy, but I'm assuming they were understaffed. Still, I was a bit annoyed. Overall this place was just ok for me. Depending on what you wanna eat... I'd much rather go to Hosoonyi or Stars In The Sky less than 5 minutes away. read more

I drove all the way to Edmonds because my friends told me about this place. I wouldn't return. Their fried chicken is just wings. Chicken wings were so oily salty and thats it. nothing special. Too oily when you bite chicken oil drips all over. Defo wouldn't recommend. read more

As far as a la carte korean restaurants go, this one is my favorite. It is reasonably priced for lunch, the service was fantastic when I went there, and the food was great. I kinda wish that I had not asked for the wings to be really mild, because they ended up being just about sauceless. I knew that if I had said I wanted it medium or mild I would have had their awesome sauce-coated wings. The portion size was great. I usually eat quite a bit, but I was stuffed before I finished my entree, thanks to their tasty banchan (little family-style appetizer-type dishes) which is added to most entrees free of charge. Our server was nice enough to notice the little things, like low rice or water, which I thoroughly appreciate at a Korean restaurant. I will definitely dine here again. read more

Great place! Good food. Good portions. Cheap lunch specials. Love the brown rice tea. This is a good place to hit up for their 6.99 lunch special. You get all the sides you would normally get with a full meal (which are all you can eat) and you get a choice of meat with rice and salad. The taste was quite good. The rest of the menu is quite pricey though so I don't know if I'll be back for dinner... read more

Came with group of four people. Order Bossam( steamed pork with kimchi) combo and makchan. Definitely should be hungry, if you're trying to eat here. I recommend the two items we ordered. They both taste really good. read more

Maybe this place was once great, but this wasn't my experience today. I'll grant maybe it was an off day, and I didn't order one of the most popular items on the menu, but there was a LITANY of flubs that made it a terrible experience for me: I showed up on a Saturday, having checked hours online in advance. Opening time: 11am which was also clearly posted on the door of the restaurant when I arrived. Staff showed up at 11:55am, so I wound up sitting & waiting for ONE HOUR for it to open. Yes, profuse apologies were offered, and there was a bench outside the door to sit on (probably because they're in the habit of not opening on time). There were 2 tables populated in the room (including me) at the time. Still, I had to wait 30 minutes for my food to arrive. I called a week in advance, asking if gobjang gui was on the menu. I was told yes, and asked a 2nd time: are you sure? Gobjang gui? YES. Guess what answer I got when I pointed out it wasn't on the menu: NO. Similar intestine dishes were available, but not what I specifically called & asked for. I'm guessing the person who answered the phone doesn't speak English & is just in the habit of saying the one word she knows to any question. Banchan: mediocre. The spinach namul tasted like dirt, like it hadn't been rinsed enough. Now I'm no great shakes as a Korean cook, but can hold my own on a number of dishes, sigeumchi-namul being one of them. So I know what this is supposed to taste like when prepared right, and it ain't that hard. FAIL. I tried an alternative intestine dish (makchang bokkum). Bland, with way too much cabbage & onions to cover the fact of small quantity of meat. Ridiculously overpriced for what I got. Finally, asking to take the rest home, I got it in a STYROFOAM container. Seriously? Banned in Seattle Jan 2009 and five years later they're still using them? SHAME! Yes there are lots of one-note 'this place sucks' unjustified reviews on Yelp, but I'm a veteran Korean food gastronome, and Gilson had a laundry list of things that just pissed me off to no end. 1 star. If I could rate 1/2 star I would. I won't be returning. read more

I tried this place out twice... both on Friday nights. First time it was horrible. Not only was the food average but there was only one waitress working so it took forever to order, get food, bill etc. Second time I was impressed. The food was superb I tried several dishes and they were all good. There were two people working this time so the service was a bit better but they still could need extra help since it was difficult getting the attention of waitress. I will return and finally decide on this restaurant whether it deserves a regular return or not read more

Definitely one of my go to Korean restaurants. I am a regular and have been frequenting this place for over 2 years now, along with my sister and BFF and several other close friends... and now my Hubby. My husband is Korean (from Seoul) and likes the food pretty well (though it's not his favorite) so you know it's good. ^.^ the one thing, if you're not Korean or with a Korean person you need to make sure to speak up because the waiters won't pay as much attention to you. They are all super sweet though and it's a family run place. I can't praise this place enough. I love it!!! read more

I got the bulgogi hot pot which was very filling for $9. Plenty of meat and the broth was a good balance of salty and sweet. Just wish this place had better ventilation. At first, the smoky smell from BBQing was overwhelming, but throughout the meal I got more accustomed to it. read more

They seemed a bit understaffed when we went. Waited a while for a table to open up, but service was quick and friendly once we were seated. Food is good; ordered the Fire Chicken which was very hot as advertised but also very tasty unlike some other spicy food gimmicks I've had. I'm glad we stopped at Gilson and would definitely eat there again. read more

The food here is so so. Hit and miss depending on what is ordered. The bad: The chicken wings are not good. The batter is too thick thus making a very soggy not crispy exterior. The frying oil was not fresh for batch as I could taste overcooked oil. This is almost beer batter fish and chips like consistency not a true bonchon or kyochun chicken double fried chicken. Light batter and double frying creates a very thin and crispy exterior. The seasoned chicken tastes mainly of gochujang and not a well balanced seasoning sauce. The good: I will say the bossam was good. The fresh kimchee was very good and not spicy. Well seasoned pork and really quality cut of meat. Some places serve too much of the fat and not enough of the meat. The makchan was good as well. Essentially dakkalbi seasoning. read more

I love Pah Jun so I had to have it, and took others' recommendations on the chicken wings... Neither of them disappointed; they were excellent! Hot fresh and tasty, and plentiful for two people (I am taking home lots of leftovers). Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I was one of two tables and my service was quite slow - I think they forgot about me. But I will definitely be back to try the barbecue on a future visit. Definitely worth it!! read more

The best Korean bbq place I've tried by far! This is my second time back. Pretty much ordered the exact things we got last time: Wine pork belly, pork intestine, La kalbi, spicy fish roe soup and egg soup. You could definitely taste the wine in the pork belly. It's so unique, I've never seen any other places offer that. The pork intestine is so good when you grill it, nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. La Kalbi is my bf favorite. However he did say that his spicy fish roe soup was very fishy.. Though I have to say it is pretty pricey for the portion you get. Service is pretty fair, this place does get pretty busy. The last time we came it had seem they only had one server..which took some time for us to get our food and seated. But, today there was about three servers and we got seated right away. Will definitely come back to try their chicken wings! The table across from us ordered it and it looked really good!! read more

Great fried chicken and Bolgogi. Super and kid-friendly staff with big tables and booths.

U gotta try the bossam, it's got a legit Kim chi pairing n some pine nuts. The seafood pancake is good too and the Korean wings are hella good better than bww and wing dome. The sides are always random depending on the day u come. But it's all bout the bosssam from here tho best there is. read more

The food here was surprisingly good! We ordered tofu soup and Pitcher Special which comes with a whole lot of beer, fries, and Korean fried chicken. It's a fantastic deal considering how much you get. Their KFC is probably the best in the neighborhood; I can understand why people rave about it. The tofu soup was perfect for me and I liked the spicy kick. The only thing that was a little subpar was probably service. It wasn't too busy when we went, but it was pretty difficult to get the servers to notice us. But overall, we had a great experience and definitely will return. read more

My family are regulars here. Bo Ssam (Steamed Pork with fresh kimchee) is the best in town. I actually like the fresh Kimchee better than the pork. The kimchee made for BoSsam is special because it is made to not be fermented like other kimchee. So it is not salty. It is a little sweet and savory. Things to order Galbi Tang (Beef rib soup) BoSsam read more

Food is good, however the portion sizes are mediocre considering you pay the same price as other all-you-can-eat Korean joints, but this place does not offer all-you-can-eat.
