I've been wanting to come here for some time now and heard great things about their Ruben sandwich. However, I wasn't in the mood for a Ruben and got their French dip. This sandwich is huge and could easily of been shared between my husband and I. Unfortunately that's not what we did and ended up wasting half the sandwich (not a sandwich good left over). This is a good dive bar. The prices are great and it's not too loud! Went on Friday for the crab night and the shrimp/crab cocktail dish is HUGE! Definitely share it with someone! The salad on the bottom has an Asian dressing that is good and you would not expect to be there on the bottom so save some room to try the salad at the bottom. The cocktail sauce is spicy so beware! I loved it but there is a kick for sure! The waitress seemed like we were a bother just being there and that's why I had to give three stars. I felt like I could not ask for anything I needed because she seemed so bothered by having to get us anything. If the service was better we would have stayed longer. read more

A casual burger and beer place with a popular happy hour. You order off the menu on the white board. There are TVs everywhere showing various sports programs. I tried the burger and fries and sampled off the finger steaks dish with a side of seafood bisque. Everything was pretty good. Fries could have been a bit crispier but they weren't soggy. Finger steaks were not tough or chewy. I would recommend if one wanted bar food and vibes. read more

Friends and I went to Gill's for their Friday afternoon special. A monstrous amount of crab and shrimp cocktail. Very generous portion and their cocktail sauce had a fantastic amount of heat from the horseradish. We also shared a plate of fries. But star was the fantastic crab. I recommend getting there early as tables go fast. The staff were very friendly and attentive and could seem to remember everybody's order without writing anything down. I promised myself to try more of the menu. I did that today with the Reuben sandwich. Take a look at it. It was a perfect combination of corned beef, thousand island dressing, Sauerkraut on toasted marbled rye bead. If you have eaten a better one, please post it. This is possibly the best Reuben in Southern Idaho. The place was slammed on Friday at 5 pm. Parking lot was full and people were standing inside and asking people to share tables. We got the last two seats at the bar. The performance of the kitchen was impeccable with the food appearing very quickly after ordering. Drinks were refreshed often. Even for a dive bar with slumping padded seating at the tables, Gil's is getting too popular. The prices are up these days. Ugh. read more

I am a self proclaimed dive bar connoisseur and this place has it. From the dark interior, old decor, strong drinks, bar food menu (pretty excellent mind you), to the multi generations of bar belly-uppers, not sure it can get any more fabulous. Join the relics for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The cocktail tower (what we call it) is worth a visit (on Friday's and expect it to sell out). Roll a few shuffleboard pucks down the board. I love this place! The food is amazing. It has that dive bar feel and I would never have expected such good quality foods being prepared here. My favorite is the Reuben sandwich. Probably the best Reuben in town. Go on a Friday and they have an awesome clam chowder as well. Prices are very reasonable and they pour nicely. Gils is the real deal dive bar. It reminds me of the lyrics to the tv show 'Cheers' theme- "... Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You want to be where you can see Our troubles are all the same You want to be where everybody knows your name" I came with my date after tripping across the reviews in yelp. I sure wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. The outside of the building looks like a plumbing supply warehouse and all the customer pickups parked in front are consistent with the image. Don't be intimidated by the blue-collar exterior, inside people are just plain folks enjoying a drink and tasty comfort food. The bar itself stretches nearly from end-to-end of the building with tables mostly at either end. Both bar and tables were filled mostly with regulars and a handful of newbies like me. The servers knew their regulars well, but treated everyone equally and expeditiously, even a clearly confused guy like me. Because it was Friday, we felt compelled to get the famous crabmeat and shrimp appetizer which is a mountain of dungeness crab and bay shrimp salad piled on top of some hidden lettuce and shrimp cocktail ($40) And we complemented it with a large side of fries ($7 or so) and of course drinks. They serve the appetizer with a large basket of saltine crackers. We ate maybe 1/3 of all the food before we were full. The food isn't gourmet or instagram worthy by any stretch of the imagination, but it hits the spot. And the place is clean and unchanged from 30 years ago, just what it should be; not some Cheesecake Factory or Chili's stamped out plastic palace or craft brew pub with an industrial look. Together with the alcohol, the experience will relieve the stress of the day, especially if your kids and boss have been making your life hell. I expect to be going again and bringing my unpretentious best friends with me next time. read more

I had heard people rave about Gil's massive Friday night-only shrimp and crab cocktail. We saw a pair of older ladies tackling one apiece, but we weren't sure the two of us could polish one off, even though we were famished. Boy, did we ever guess right. The two ladies finished maybe a third of theirs and motioned the waitress for a doggie bag. Do they call them that anymore? I'm guessing the 60-ish crowd there still calls them that. We couldn't believe the amount of shrimp and crab in this cocktail for $25. It was a mountain. And good-sized shrimp, nothing baby about them. The taste was wonderful. Get there early or be prepared to wait. When we arrived, there wasn't even any room at the bar. But we hadn't waited 10 minutes, after arriving right at 6 p.m. -- when they begin serving the shrimp and crab cocktails -- that a table opened up. Service was friendly and though every table around us had the food cocktails -- nine total at the three tables -- we didn't have to wait long for ours. It was a great dinner. read more

As far as dive bars go, this is probably my favorite in town. We just recently moved to the west downtown area and quickly found this gem. Drinks are very reasonably priced. Although I haven't had any of the food yet, it does look good. Apparently they are known for a seafood cocktail tower that they only serve on Friday nights. Staff is friendly enough. I think I caught one of them on an off day, so I won't hold that against him. This is a total locals bar. They have a few TVs where they have sports on as well. I had the fish and chips. It was superb. It comes with clam chowder and for restaurant clam chowder they nailed it. It was excellent. The service was great really liked our little waitress. She was fun. The ambience was amazing, you'd never have guessed that it was once a kennel. It was bustling when we got there. I have to admit... years ago I spent probably too many Friday's after work, sitting with coworkers, drinking too much and playing shuffleboard fun times!! Back then, they didn't have a kitchen... or maybe I wasn't interested in food‍ The past few months Gil's has become our "I want an awesome lunch" spot. Today was my boss's birthday and I got to chose the restaurant. A couple of us have been here multiple times but we also had some newbie's. Fair to say that, from the outside, some of my guys were giving me the side eye... I get it... while it might not have much curb appeal, never question a chubby girl when she tells you the food is the bomb our group of 7 walked in, found a couple tables big enough for our group and were greeted warmly. Homemade finger steaks and bar prawns all the way around. I'm upset I didn't catch our servers name because she was perfect!!! When we walked out, I got high fives from everyone... even got a call after work to tell me "girl, you got major street creds for lunch today!" While I cringe at the thought of giving away my secret bar prawn spot... they deserve the accolades read more

I had been wanting to go to Gil's to experience the crab/shrimp cocktail that I had heard so much about..... It did not disappoint!!! I am a true foodie that loves to have new and/or different experiences in food. I don't think that I have ever tasted or seen a cocktail like this.. and I grew up in the San Fran bay area. The booze is also well poured, but I loved that hey had Stella on draft as it was the perfect compliment to this cocktail. Way to GO!!!! Staff also amazing! read more

The K9 is a bit of a dive bar, which is a large part of the appeal. I think it is worth going just for the food as my first interaction with the K9 was having a burger. Prawns and chicken strips are good, and if you bring a friend you can try to polish off one of their Friday night seafood salad/cocktail...definitely way too much for one person. Drinks are good and their selection of available alcohol is much larger than expected. Aside from the bottles easily in reach of the bar, there is a backstock of good bourbons and harder-to-find items, all at a good price. If you want some fancy, high-end place with high-end prices, this isn't your bar. Good food, good drinks, and all at a good price....make K9 your stop. This bar does tend to serve an older crowd, but that is because (I'm assuming) they prefer value and substance over appearances. read more

I love the K9, They May not have a large menu but what they do have is made from the best food available and is cooked to perfection and carefully planned and thought out each day and gives this little restaurant a unique edge that is not easy to find at a full service bar. They also serve brunch on the weekends and Mary is just completely the most amazing bartender and knows how to pour a drink and serve food with a smile and some sass to spare.
