Crab and shrimp cocktail only Friday evenings.
    Renee M.

Friends and I went to Gill's for their Friday afternoon special. A monstrous amount of crab and shrimp cocktail. Very generous portion and their cocktail sauce had a fantastic amount of heat from the horseradish. We also shared a plate of fries. But star was the fantastic crab. I recommend getting there early as tables go fast. The staff were very friendly and attentive and could seem to remember everybody's order without writing anything down. That speaks to years of great service.

Friendly, fast service and a great atmosphere- definitely try the crab and shrimp salad - we highly recommend it (bonus is you have enough to share with those around you).

Breaded prawns were delicious. Very old fashioned comfort food.

I promised myself to try more of the menu. I did that today with the Reuben sandwich. Take a look at it. It was a perfect combination of corned beef, thousand island dressing, Sauerkraut on toasted marbled rye bead. If you have eaten a better one, please post it. This is possibly the best Reuben in Southern Idaho. The place was slammed on Friday at 5 pm. Parking lot was full and people were standing inside and asking people to share tables. We got the last two seats at the bar. The performance of the kitchen was impeccable with the food appearing very quickly after ordering. Drinks were refreshed often. Even for a dive bar with slumping padded seating at the tables, Gil's is getting too popular. The prices are up these days. Ugh.

Sausage and eggs, half order of biscuits and gravy. So good

A definite must for breakfast and adult beverages. My sausage and eggs was fantastic, and the biscuits were nice and fresh, and the gravy was delicious. The service was super friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Will definitely return!

I am a self proclaimed dive bar connoisseur and this place has it. From the dark interior, old decor, strong drinks, bar food menu (pretty excellent mind you), to the multi generations of bar belly-uppers, not sure it can get any more fabulous. Join the relics for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The cocktail tower (what we call it) is worth a visit (on Friday's and expect it to sell out). Roll a few shuffleboard pucks down the board. Sit back and enjoy a step back in time at one of my favorite bars. The back booth, that is my spot, so if you see me enter and you are in my spot, expect the stink eye ;)

The famous crab and shrimp appetizer. Available only on Fridays.

Gils is the real deal dive bar. It reminds me of the lyrics to the tv show 'Cheers' theme- "... Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You want to be where you can see Our troubles are all the same You want to be where everybody knows your name" I came with my date after tripping across the reviews in yelp. I sure wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. The outside of the building looks like a plumbing supply warehouse and all the customer pickups parked in front are consistent with the image. Don't be intimidated by the blue-collar exterior, inside people are just plain folks enjoying a drink and tasty comfort food. The bar itself stretches nearly from end-to-end of the building with tables mostly at either end. Both bar and tables were filled mostly with regulars and a handful of newbies like me. The servers knew their regulars well, but treated everyone equally and expeditiously, even a clearly confused guy like me. Because it was Friday, we felt compelled to get the famous crabmeat and shrimp appetizer which is a mountain of dungeness crab and bay shrimp salad piled on top of some hidden lettuce and shrimp cocktail ($40) And we complemented it with a large side of fries ($7 or so) and of course drinks. They serve the appetizer with a large basket of saltine crackers. We ate maybe 1/3 of all the food before we were full. The food isn't gourmet or instagram worthy by any stretch of the imagination, but it hits the spot. And the place is clean and unchanged from 30 years ago, just what it should be; not some Cheesecake Factory or Chili's stamped out plastic palace or craft brew pub with an industrial look. Together with the alcohol, the experience will relieve the stress of the day, especially if your kids and boss have been making your life hell. I expect to be going again and bringing my unpretentious best friends with me next time.

Got the Reuben and split it. It was huge and so good. Splitting is a must. I can't wait to go back to try other things.

What a great place- wonderful servers and excellent pours. Annie's martini is one of the best in town. The Friday night crab & shrimp tower is not-to-be-missed (served at 6 pm till sold out).

That's one impressive shrimp and crab cocktail.

I had heard people rave about Gil's massive Friday night-only shrimp and crab cocktail. We saw a pair of older ladies tackling one apiece, but we weren't sure the two of us could polish one off, even though we were famished. Boy, did we ever guess right. The two ladies finished maybe a third of theirs and motioned the waitress for a doggie bag. Do they call them that anymore? I'm guessing the 60-ish crowd there still calls them that. We couldn't believe the amount of shrimp and crab in this cocktail for $25. It was a mountain. And good-sized shrimp, nothing baby about them. The taste was wonderful. Get there early or be prepared to wait. When we arrived, there wasn't even any room at the bar. But we hadn't waited 10 minutes, after arriving right at 6 p.m. -- when they begin serving the shrimp and crab cocktails -- that a table opened up. Service was friendly and though every table around us had the food cocktails -- nine total at the three tables -- we didn't have to wait long for ours. It was a great dinner.

Who would have thought that Gil's has top shelf bourbon? Friendly environment with the additional benefit of food. Looking forward to coming back soon for the crab cocktail. My only gripe would be to get some Glen Cairn glasses for the bourbon.

Bittercreek provided me with just what I needed today. Warm and inviting service and a terrific selection of food and beverages for me to enjoy. Dined alone at the bar and everyone that I came into contact with did what I expect. Timely greet and informative service personnel. Hats off to the whole team. Was talked into a Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley and it was spectacular. I usually stick to Willamette Valley reds but went for it after a tiny taste. It's what I needed but didn't know it until it was offered. Too many times I stick to my wheelhouse and don't stray but was coerced by someone who I assumed was the inhouse shotcaller. I had two glasses and it went well with the Bowl of Corn Chowder I was told about. Served hot and with some semi crusty sourdough that hit the spot. Finished every spoonful and it brought me back to my time in New England. The soup was done right for sure. Noone trying too hard which is an issue when trying to recreate a coastal favorite while land locked in the mountain state of Idaho. Right before I had.my second glass of Chardonnay, I asked "the front of the house shot caller" about the selection of Rums and was offered a taste of one that could have been a contender for my follow up beverage. No mixer needed. Would have made a great sipper, as most good rums can be but I elected for the second glass of Chardonnay. Glad that I did. Was feeling a bit buzzed and full from my meal and had to exit stage left before trying a dessert. I'm sure it would have been epic but I'm thin for a reason and don't overindulge. Thank you Bittercreek! My visit with you all made me wonder why I hadn't been in since 2006 or 2007. I'll, certainly, be visitong more often and will bring others with. You've got a fan in me!

We saw a young couple get frustrated with how packed it was and left, but what do you expect on a Friday night, this isn't a fast food place. We stuck around and placed our order. Got lucky because they only do Fish Fry's on Fridays! Ordered the prawns and fish, got two order of buffalo wings, Mac and cheese, chipotle wrap, and kids burger. Fish was amazing!! Tasted Fresh! Not frozen! I was really not sure what to expect and faced my fears and ordered it. I can say it was some of the best fried fish I've had no lie. I was super pleased with it! Next time I'll try just the fish and chips in hopes that it comes with one more piece. The prawns were skinny ones and I wasn't too fond of them but the fish the main dish was perfect! Wife and bro-in law got an order of wings each and they were both super happy with them, I snagged 3 and would say top 5 wings I've had. Sister got the chipotle wrap and she said it was really good! Wife also got the mac n cheese with bacon and her and the kids loved it. Kids burger was able to split between two kids and they tore it up along with the mac n cheese! We had a great experience! Just be patient with staff and cooks, they get bogged down and you have to expect that or be ready to order fast when you're there.

Plan to circle the block several times if you want to be close. Otherwise plan on parking and walking. When we walked in, 5:30-ish on a Thursday evening the bartender told us to sit wherever we wanted. There were two booths and a couple of other tables available. It took several minutes for anyone else to acknowledge us and bring us menus. When asked, the waitress didn't know what beers were on tap, but did have them all written down. That was helpful. Also seemed to have a good selection of "house" cocktails, which would be fun for happy hour or a game day. Vibe is definitely sports bar on a college campus, but the patrons were not college-aged. As others have commented, great overhead music. While we were there it was 70s classic rock. Now for the food - all great! Hubby gor the finger steaks, and while the breading looked very dark, he said they didn't taste burnt or overcooked. They came with BBQ sauce and an Asian-ish sweet-chili-horseradish sauce. Not cocktail sauce and very weird. I got The Grateful Shed burger with tots. It was delicious! Served on a brioche bun that could not stand up to the burger and how juicy it was. But that's what a fork is for. The candied bacon on it was so good. And the tots! Crispiest I've have in all of the treasure valley! It did take quite a while for the food to come out. I had a good view of the kitchen so I know it wasn't the wait staff. And its never good to see tables that ordered after us get their food before us. That's the only reason for a 4 star rating. If you aren't in a hurry, and maybe don't mind walking for parking, I'd definitely recommend The Shed!

Second, and I doubt this is the case during football season, the place was not busy at all. The inside is dark wood, tables and booths. I liked the ambience, I kind of pub feel. However, it was a beautiful day, so we sat on the patio, and this was nice. Our young male server, and I apologize because I did not get his name, but he had dark hair and a beard, did an excellent job of taking care of us. My daughter and I had the Red Eye(?) IPA, which we both enjoyed. She had the shrimp bowl, my wife had the French dip, and I got the Pacific-something seafood melt. My daughter really liked her choice. My wife said that, while there was plenty of meat on her sandwich, she has had French dip sandwiches elsewhere with more flavor. Likewise, my crab, shrimp, and artichoke sandwich was not as flavorful as I would have liked, and mine was served kind of open-faced. When I put it together ingredients were falling out as I ate it. So, I was not that impressed with my choice. My wife and I liked the fries, hers the sweet potato, mine the regular. Crispy and well-seasoned. My sandwich was $22, and my wife and daughter's entrees were $19. With two beers and a soda, the bill came to over $100 including the tip. So, not inexpensive. I'm not sure we would drive from Star to this location again, based on the food and prices.

The waiter was courteous and efficient, quickly bringing water and menus. I ordered the turkey havarti sandwich with avocados, accompanied by a side of fries. It was delicious and genuinely satisfying. The only reason I rated this three stars was due to the service. I had to request a water refill twice, and each time I looked at the bar, the waiter was absorbed in his phone. This might explain the emptiness of the place.
