We couldn't have had a more positive experience hosting our wedding weekend welcome event at Gilman Brewing. Prior to the event, Michael was both prompt and helpful in answering our questions, securing the space, and choosing the right drinks for our crowd. The Gilman team also prepared seamlessly with their recommended caterer, Dos Raicez, to ensure their food truck would be ready to serve delicious tacos to our guests! On the day of the event, Michael and the Gilman team went above and beyond to help us set-up the room with not only their furniture, heat lamps, votives, audio, etc. but also items we brought (e.g., extra nonalcoholic drinks, decorations). The space looked great with the string lights, and the audio system worked beautifully for music and wedding toasts, too! On the whole, we loved working with Gilman and would keep them top-of-mind for future events. Really good beer, namely French saison! Ambience is pretty good, and there's plenty of seating. There's an upstairs part indoors and an open indoor seating area for that nice outdoorsy breeze. I got the Maison de Campagne, which had a nice crisp body. I really enjoyed it. They do 5 oz pours, if you don't want a full pour. I also tried some of my friend's champ rochaux, which was tart and bitter and not sweet at all. Interesting flavors. read more

One of my local faves. I find myself here at least once a month to either restock my fridge or picking up a new batch of something. Plenty of parking and spacious area for you to enjoy a pint or two. Pickup service is fast and efficient but if you want to sit down you might have to wait a bit on a Friday or Saturday but weekday seems to be easy. My all time favorites is the Guava Jardin and Antifreeze. If you go make sure you can grab a couple four packs. You won't regret it. read more

I was here this weekend on Saturday to celebrate a friends birthday and it was about 20 or so people spending hella money on beer and pizza and tipping w each transaction only for the people working there at the end of the night to literally refuse to take a photo of our group.. so awkward and weird because I don't think I've ever had anyone in the world ever say no to taking a pic ever. In my life. They're lucky the pizza here is bomb so I MIGHT be back for take out if I'm desperate but I would never sit here and eat or drink ever again. And the beer was whatever. Nothing outstanding or memorable but the awful service at the end unfortunately really took away from anything positive. I'm not Keith Lee or anything but for a group of black people in Berkeley to be treated like that is notable and very telling of the ownerships sentiments. read more

One of my favorite breweries in the Bay Area! Stellar service and unique and diverse delicious beers served up all year long. They have a ton of seating on the main floor (with additional seats on the second). They are dog and kid friendly and have games such as corn hole and Bananagrams. They have food in house, but also have food trucks that post up some days. And they have fun events throughout the year. We always get their flight of 6 beers. Standouts this time around were their Blackberry Hibou, La Ferme de Canneberges, Pineapple Jardin, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout (tastes just like the name and is absolutely delicious). I cant recommend their spot enough for beer drinkers of all sorts. There is free street parking around and they also have a small area of brewery merch. read more

Giving this 4 stars because it's a great spot to hang out with friends and/or watch a sports game (we were here during the niners nfc champop ship game). Even though it was a game day, we were able to find a table in the room downstairs. I was surprised by how roomy the place is, and it has outdoor seating! There's also an upstairs area with more tables and TVs. The beers I had were good. I'll definitely be coming back to try more beers. read more

Nice place to have a casual beer at. Good seating options both "inside" and the outside patio that provides shade. There's usually a food truck parked on the curb. I got the "Pirates Have Feelings Too" beer, which was the only porter available at the time. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have more options for those. Super cool and Industrial Revolution-esque vibes at this wonderful brew space. I was let down by the beers they had. Maybe it's my taste buds, but I could not pick up any of the maple bacon flavor in Secret Brunch, the brown ale, or the chipotle in the Speak of the Devil porter. We felt that although the beers were alright, none really stood out to us as our favorite. The space however is fabulous. It's great for small pairs to huge groups. They have downstairs seating and an upstairs area--everything is dog-friendly! There is serve-yourself water, but no kitchen. There are food trucks that run through the weekend, starting on Thursday, as they say on their website. We brought in our own snacks and food from having lunch earlier before, and they were cool with it. I love the dark theme in here...I felt like I was going to hear a train pass by on the railroad or something. They have TV's and the space feels very airy and open with natural sunlight creeping in, even as everything is indoors. The branding of Gilman was done really well, but I think more could be done about the beers to make them taste like their names suggest. They're almost there, but for a spoiled beer gal...I think the brews should be the most important part of a microbrewery. Can't wait to come back and see the growth! read more

Tasty beers and great customer service. Pick up was always easy and met with a smile. It's nice they have a good selection of sour beers. It saves me a trip to Almanac Brewing in Alameda if I ever need a sour beer fix. When I sat in the patio they gave me a free glass included with my beer which is now added to my beer glass collection. They also had instructions and sanitizer for the table. read more

That being said, this review is specifically for the AMAZING experience I had renting out their available space for a private party for my husbands 40th birthday. Prompt responses, very clear communication and genuinely great customer service. They provide the cups for their beer, a nice surround sound system (we were able to play a custom playlist), a great projector screen , cornhole and foozball to keep the kiddos entertained. you know they strive to keep the customer happy when they inquire with other breweries to get caps for the growlers I bought from home. Substance over style - i.e., amazing beer! (4/5 green stars) I think I've tried a good percentage of the breweries in the Berkeley-Oakland area. Gilman is now a firm favorite (along with Hoi Polloi and the Torpedo room). While nearby Fieldwork has a pretty seating area, Gilman definitely ranks significantly higher in my book for the beer itself (and friendliness). There's an emphasis on saisons, farmhouse ales, stouts and the use of fruit, chili, chocolate and some alternative yeasts (like Brettanomyces and saison yeast). Food trucks on weekends, restaurant in the works, and outside food welcome. I liked everything we tried, but especially the Cheval de Fer (dry-hopped Belgian saison) and the Champ Rochaux (saison with nectarines). Going back soon - there's a Groupon available now too! I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * Beer is brewed on site, reducing the carbon and material footprints (transportation and packaging). * I believe they'll fill growlers and crowlers to-go, again reducing packaging. * You can bring your own food (Whole Foods is across the street), thereby accommodating all diets. * Close to public transport. * They have (or had) a promotion where for every pint of Cheval de Fer bought, $1 is donated to ALS research. * I didn't find out that much about their ingredients yet - will update if I do. read more

Came by yesterday to pick up some beers. They have a mask requirement, so be sure to wear a mask prior to your arrival. They have their list of beers taped up for you to see. You can choose a variety 4-pack or 6-pack. The guy who was working at the time was super friendly and patient as we decided what we wanted. We ended up going with 4 Dashboard Jesus (hazy IPA) and 2 Lactose Tolerance (blackberry milkshake IPA). Super quick and easy to just drop by and grab a pack. LOVE this brewery! Chill and casual with some subtle steampunk vibes to the design. Great selection of beers (they always have a west coast IPA that's everything I want and more), plus some solid non-alcoholic options (I.e. sodas, kombucha, and Verve cold brew coffee). The bartenders are super cool in addition to being fantastic at their job. As far as the beer they had a good list with lots of choices, the food was pizza and it was probably some of the best pizza I've had in a very long time there was a lot of choices with an emphasis on vegan and vegetarian, but don't get me wrong. There was nothing wrong with that me and my buddy are both professional chefs and we could not get over how good the pizza was we actually went and told the staff how good it was because it was worthy of that the space is big and industrial with lots of indoor outdoor room. read more

Another awesome brewery in Berkeley! Gilman is a relatively smaller brewery with an industrial vibe. Their draft list is a nice mix of saisons, sours, IPAs, and even a rotating cider for those that are gluten-free. Order right near the entrance and then opt to go upstairs or in the back area where there's a clear garage door that opens up to their outdoor seating area on a clear day. Gilman is cool because they have darts, cornhole, dominos, and cards available for free while you enjoy your pint or flight! Dog friendly and free parking in the area, it's a solid place to check out. Also, no worries if you didn't eat before coming here because they have a decent menu consisting of paninis, cheese plates, and wings that you can order. So when we heard that they were opening their doors today, we came on by. I'm currently drinking the Dark Farmhouse, while my guy samples the whole tap list. We visited Gilman over the weekend and were impressed by their covid protocols. Each table has a QR code specific to the table, it's easy to order through the website and they bring the food and drinks to you. The line was only to put your name down, or for online pickup orders. The beers, ciders and food was all very good and delivered quickly. I think the grilled cheese was our favorite, so cheesy! And with a pepper jam, yum. All the staff was very friendly! I went here with the hubs. I was shopping for clothing across the street and promised him that he could get a beer while he waited. It was OK. I came over and bought a cider which was ok. I paid way to much for it. The best thing was the taco truck outside. Their tacos birrias were amazing and really made the trip. OK drinks and killer tacos. Makes me want to buy a can of a good cider up the street and order the tacos. I'm sure they wouldn't let me consume it on the property, but I don't know if I want to return here for the beer/cider. read more

We had just finished dinner nearby on a Saturday night when we decided we were not ready to head on home quite yet. This was our first time coming here so everything was new! If you are driving there is no parking lot so you just have to find street parking nearby. The area was not that busy yet as it was only around 7 so we found parking right away. We were also able to get a table right away. If you are coming with only 2-3 people you will probably have an easier time finding seating at the hightops. We were able to snag a picnic table though which was nice! (Side Rant: why were high tops even invented? They are very uncomfortable and as a tall person who can always touch the floor with my feet I really don't like them! haha. ok back to the beer) Safety is a top priority here! I saw them wiping down tables and seats after every person, masks were required and more! One very cool feature was the QR codes on each table. Just by scanning this code you were able to view the menu, order and pay! We started with a Belgian beer and I think a saison. I am not a huge beer fan though so these were just ok. Although my sister who really loves beer loved both of these! Have no fear though if you are not a beef fan though because they offer some other items too! I ended up ordering a cherry hard cider that was AMAZING! It is not frm Gilman Brewing but they offer it for people like me. It sounds ridiculous to say but, the worst part of the shelter in place(s) for me has been not being able to go enjoy beers after work. I truly love IPAs and will always try new ones when I have the chance. I walked over to a liquor store near my house in downtown Berkeley. The one on Shattuck across the street from Triple Rock Brewing. They have a cooler with craft beers. I saw this double hazy IPA and immediately needed to try it. I took it home and cracked it open and to my great pleasure, LOVED IT. The tropical fruit notes come through but not in an overly sweet way. It reminds me of when you catch the aromatics off a delicious glass of crisp pinot grigio in the summertime, except a hazy IPA. I'm not gonna lie, I definitely felt the one beer! I had another of course, and enjoyed it even more. Needless to say this has sparked my interest in this brewery. If this beer is so satisfying I can't wait to try more. I will definitely be giving this brewery a shot ASAP. read more

I really had a great time throughout my whole visit at Gilman Brewing Company. When you arrive you get directed to take a seat on one of the table numbers. Once you are there you scan a QR code on your phone to bring up the menu. This was so cool so you did not have to worry about contact. You ordered right through your phone as well. Once we entered our order it was brought right out for us to enjoy. The wait was very small. We ordered the ale and a Belgian. My mom and sister are not big fans of beer so I ended up getting both! I got pretty toasty My mom and sister ended up ordering the cherry cider. They have not stopped raving about this cider since we left. They absolutely loved the cherry flavor and everything. Beer is exceptionally delicious, however I've had two different experiences, while picking up to-go beer. The first time I was greeted properly by a gentleman who provided great customer service. The second time a younger gal helped me. I was not greeted but stared at as if I wasn't welcome. Then when I checked out she charged me 34 for a to-go four pack, absurd. I later asked why so much and she said I was charged as if they were draft beers. Not cool, i hope no one else is treated this way. read more

What better combination, great beer and Joyride's Pizza, (Detroit style) with Snickers cheesecake and, 6 cinnamon and 6 garlic dough knots to go? Our first time for the Joyride food items and first time having Detroit style pizza. We had the Meatzza, with added arugula...perfect. My only criticism, the dough knots are Very small. Knowing the cost to make such a thing, they are overpriced, especially the cinnamon ones. Of course Gilman Brewery beer complimented it all perfectly. Had a fantastic time returning to Gilman on Friday night. There were a few tables left - seat yourself. Ordering is all touchless online, open tab, get beers and food fast, close tab, super easy. They added a vegan hotdog and still have some of the favorite sandwiches they've always had too (ie Cuban). Restroom near the old game area inside the garage doors is open. Also, I appreciate that they still do tasting/5 oz pours of some beers, and of course beer to go. Ended up bringing 2 4-packs home. Can't wait to go back! read more

Stopped here after we drove by on our way to the Tile Shop, this place totally caught my eye. I mean buying tile is hard work...hehe. So once we were done it was really hard convincing the hubster how parched I was and that I really needed a beer...hint hint. It was a quiet Saturday and very low key. Loved the open airiness of the bar and seating area. The bartender was friendly and chatty, giving off a very inviting vibe. I honed in a Blackberry Hibou that was so delicious and absolutely quenched my thirst. And to top things off perfectly, there was a cute hotdog truck setup out front were I purchase a spicy sausage for the man and a regular dog for moi. Dogs, beers on a lovely warm Saturday discussing our tile while watching the world drive by...what could be better? Perfection. Can't wait to head back, I feel like we found a gem for my guy and I. Oh and I have to say on a side note they have the most extraordinary toilet paper holder Ive ever seen in their said bathroom! Great beer, great food, and great service. Enjoyed the summer sunshine with a beer in one hand, a cuban sandwich in another, and my cellphone taking selfies in my other other hand for the grams. Actually with me the camera gets the first bite so pictures first of the food and drinks or it didn't happen. I do wish though I had four hands so that I also could have grabbed the reuben sandwich too. This place has a good amount of outdoor seating for you to enjoy your brews and bites as well as to go containers available if you just want to pick up and go. The staff is great and easy to talk to and even remind you to close out your tab just in case. The tables use a QR which is a nice option for contactless orders. I've been sleeping on Gilman Brewing Co!!! It's been on my list for a while, but I finally came thru and am so upset at myself for not coming sooner, especially since I always drive by it. We came on a Saturday night a little after 6pm with 3-4 parties ahead of us and had to wait ~40 minutes for a table. Once you're seated, you scan the QR code on the table to place your order. There's an overwhelming variety of craft beers to choose from, but I had the Pineapple Jardin Belgian Golden Sour and the bud had the Fuzzy Dice (Hazy IPA). I'm into fruity/tart/sour beers, and the Pineapple Jardin is just that. It's probably my new favorite beer. The bud really liked the Fuzzy Dice, so much that it made his top list of beers he's had to date (and he drinks a LOT). Gilman Brewing Co is now one of my new favorite spots.
