This is a cool little brewery along Gilman street, surrounded by a sea of other breweries and cool places to eat and drink. The bartenders are extremely nice and helpful and the open atmosphere allows patrons to enjoy the fresh Berkeley air and watch the comings and goings of people on the northwest side of town. Their logo is especially catchy and creative. The beers I had were pretty good but perhaps not on the same atmospheric level as some of the more notorious breweries in the east bay.I think I need to buy one of their shirts on my next visit.

One of my favorite breweries to go to because of the expansive beer selection (I love the guava sour) and Joyride Kitchen making Detroit style pizzas in the space! The vibe is the perfect amount of laidback and cozy. There is always plenty of seating indoors and on benches outside. This will always be my go to brewery whenever I want to grab a beer!

A really cute brewery w nice atmosphere . I tried the guava sour beer which was really nice - refreshing and had a unique flavor (4/5$ and the Detroit style margarita which was just ok (3.5/5) - the dough was a bit too thick and a little too dry . They had some other interesting options in the menu which I jujitsu check out next time

Went here with a friend on Friday 2/20 around 4p. The place was nearly empty, except for a group of two couples and another couple off to the side. It's definitely a no frills place and the service is nil. The woman working was less than welcoming or helpful. You order your beer and food at a counter upon entry and then given a buzzer to alert you that your food is ready so you can go pick it up along with your plastic utensils. We ordered a a couple of beers and the $20 Chimichurri Steak Sandwich with Arugula on an Acme French roll, (note, it's not a roll, it's a baguette), and the $15 Garden Salad with arugula, spinach, candied walnuts, goat cheese, apples, Meyer lemon, olive oil and fig balsamic vinaigrette. When we went to pick up our food we were more than a little taken aback by the tiny plate the sandwich and salad were served on (see small square plate in the photo, which is smaller than a 8" paper plate). The sandwich measured between 6-7" and was cut in half and the baguette is maybe 2" wide for $20. So we each got a 3.5"x 2" piece of sandwich. The salad was just a skimpy for $15 bucks. I wish I had remembered to take photo before we ate the sandwich and salad, but we were hungry. I realize inflation has driven up prices but this was ridiculous. The amount of food was barely enough for a 8-10 year-old child, if that. So maybe you're wondering if there are any positives to highlight? The answer is yes! The sandwich and salad were delicious. Just not delicious enough for $35 price tag. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the utensils are compostable and you don't have to bus your dishes!

I originally went to Gilman Brewing for the Whimsey Market event they had going on and decided to order some food and a drink. I got a hemp hibiscus cider (bottled, not on tap) and a gluten free pizza and it was delicious. I've never seen a gluten free deep dish pizza and I was so impressed. It tasted great, but I didn't like that it cost me $50 I think it was all the add ons such as gluten free crust, vegan cheese, chicken, and pineapple. Something to note was that the service was beyond amazing. The guy that worked at the counter was super thorough and really wanted to make sure I got my order correct and even checked if a certain sauce was gluten free. I wish I got his name, he deserves a raise or promotion or something! Also, something to note is both the outside and inside areas are super cute and a great place for a casual hang out. Overall, I really enjoyed the Whimsey Market event and really enjoyed the vibe/food.

Stopped at 3 breweries before finding the right one :-). What a great spot - it's huge with a great staff and a huge variety of beers on draft. We got the Sweet Pear Pineapple Pizza. Pizza is Detroit style - very, very good! 5/24/24 update: such a sweet spot to stop at on our way home. Just beer this visit. Good vibe. Delicious scents (pizzas). New menu! Thoroughly enjoy this spot.

Great place for beer flights as they have a wide range of selections. We came here on Friday for lunch and there was plenty of indoor seating, outdoor seating, and seats facing the sidewalk if you want to people watch. What puts this place over the top for me is Joyride Pizza. They make square Detroit style pies which remind me of pan pizzas except with a ton of extra cheese on the edge which makes a cheesy crisp with the crust. Freaking amazing!

Nice place to grab a brew and a bite. Easy access and parking is not a problem during the day.

The first time I went to Cellarmaker I was post-ride -- the particular kind of hungry and…read moredehydrated that makes any beer taste like the best beer you've ever had, which is why I don't fully trust that first impression. But the West Coast IPA was good, genuinely good, and the pizzas coming out of the kitchen to the tables around me looked like pizzas made by people who cared about pizza, and the outdoor area was the kind of setup that welcomes bikes and dogs without making a production of it. I made a mental note: come back sometime for food. "Sometime" turned out to be yesterday, which is how it always works, the places you mean to return to in a week take three months, and the ones you expect to take three months surprise you on a random afternoon when you're starving and nearby and out of excuses. We'd taken the dogs on a long hike through Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, which if you haven't done it is one of those East Bay hikes that makes you briefly forget you live in an urban area -- redwoods and eucalyptus and creek crossings and the kind of quiet that resets whatever the week did to you. By the end of it we were the specific kind of famished where menu deliberation is impossible and you just point at things and hope. We sat outside and pointed at things and everything we pointed at was excellent. The baked sweet potato--a Japanese sweet potato under miso butter, chili crème fraîche, bacon bits, crispy onions, scallions, and pea tendrils--is the kind of dish that sounds like it was assembled by a committee of trendy adjectives but actually works as a coherent thing you want to eat. The miso butter does the heavy lifting, that sweet-savory bridge that makes Japanese sweet potatoes sing, and the chili crème fraîche keeps it from tipping into cloying territory. Fifteen dollars for a side dish at a brewery is a number that would normally make me flinch, but the portion was generous and the execution was real. The summer squash tostadas--roasted zucchini, cherry tomatoes, avocado, pickled red onion, salsa macha, queso fresco, cilantro--were bright and crunchy and exactly the kind of thing you want after four hours in the woods. The salsa macha brought a nutty, smoky heat that elevated what could have been a forgettable veggie tostada into something I'd actually order again on purpose. And then there were the pickled vegetables. Cauliflower, fennel, zucchini, carrots. Seven dollars. Who pickles zucchini? Cellarmaker pickles zucchini, and it's delicious, and I'm annoyed that I now have to rethink my entire understanding of what belongs in a pickle jar. I had the Diamonds & Gasoline, a West Coast IPA with Nelson Sauvin and Cascade Cryo hops. The menu copy promises white wine and gooseberry and diesel-y grapefruit funk. What I'd tell you is that it's dank. Good dank. The kind of resinous, piney, vaguely illicit West Coast IPA that California does better than anywhere and that Northern California in particular has turned into a regional art form. I drank it and thought about the fact that I've started using the word "dank" to describe beer unironically and that I voluntarily hiked through redwoods on a Sunday afternoon and that I'm sitting outside a brewery in Berkeley with two dogs at my feet eating a Japanese sweet potato with miso butter on it. I am becoming a Northern Californian. This is happening. I lament nothing. The pizza will have to wait for the third visit. Wednesday, maybe -- they do a $12 slice-and-beer special that sounds like exactly the kind of deal that accelerates the conversion.

I don't consider myself a beer connoisseur, but I like trying different beers and ciders so this place was right up my alley. I had a friend visiting Berkeley from out of town so we came here to hang out and catch up. One thing that stood out to me is this place, because it's a taproom and not a brewery, is open later than the other beer places in the East Bay. Many choices of beer and cider on tap. I tried the ginger peppercorn cider and it was very unique, I've never had a cider like this flavor, it's almost like a cross between ginger beer and cider. My friends enjoyed various beers on tap. The place is pretty small but very clean and cute. I like that you can choose from 10 oz or 16 oz pour, so people like me can try more varieties in smaller portion than just drinking one boring thing. I like variety. The all you can eat popcorn was a hit with our little group. The truffle flavor really elevates the popcorn and it goes well with beer! There's so much free parking in this area at night... super convenient... although it scared me for a minute when I couldn't find my car in the very empty street lot, before I realized I was another block farther down. Lotsa interesting folks come up in here, and there's some daily regulars, a real mixed bag , fun people. I met a couple people that turned out to be my good friends for the last few years. Attached is a concert hall that has some pretty interesting live music acts and very diverse from hip hop to jazz to funk to rock and roll and that dark sider stuff, heavy metal, etc. They rent the whole joint out if you have a party or they rent sections as well. Great spot for wedding rehearsal dinners, high school reunions, company parties, etc. Stimulating conversation abounds and a lot of laughter bouncing off the walls. I went to see the visual kei, Japanese rock band, JILUKA, here with my boyfriend and we lined up beforehand for VIP. The staff walked out, showed us the rules for the VIP that was printed on a piece of paper and explained it to us too, they walked down the line to scan us in as well. Venue itself is pretty neat. The front part is a bar area with lots of tables and seating and outdoor seating as well. Since it was before the concert, we were able to enjoy some food and drinks from the bar and kitchen. It was also during their Happy Hour too which was great. My boyfriend got a drink (not sure what it was, but it was refreshing and citrus tasting?) and we shared a Bavarian soft pretzel with mustard and we got the white cheddar dipping sauce added on for a nominal fee. One of the best pretzels that I've ever had! Deliciously soft interior, nice chew to the texture of the exterior. Comes out hot, warm and delicious. Great on it's own, but great with the sauces too. Perfect dash of the coarse salts on it. I'd get this again for sure and would like to one day order more from their menu. The live house music area is in the back in a separate room. Restrooms were clean too. Enough space for the bands to sell their merch and do a meet and greet. Wasn't a huge venue and insane turn out, but it fit the crowd and I liked how intimate setting was. I was around 3-4 rows from the front and even with a mosh pit and wall of death, I was able to shift around and see the band more clearly. Easy visibility no matter where I was shifted around. Lighting was pretty good and made it easy to take pictures and video. I think the vocals were a bit more muffled than the rest of the band members playing, but that might just be the set up more than anything. Of all the venues I stopped by for the week, this had the most approachable and friendly staff. Greeted going and as we were leaving too. I didn't overheat at this one either, so the AC was A+!! There's paid parking nearby but if you read the signs and go around, you can get free street parking too. Bring more J-rock/over seas acts here, it was so good!
