I read some bad reviews on the service department at Gillis but we decided to try them because they were close, won't make that mistake again, and I honestly hate to leave bad reviews but I think there are times when it's necessary. You have to leave emotion out of it and just be honest on what transpired. Wife's car had a fairly serious problem, Gillis told us to bring it in on Thursday, they didn't even look at it until the following Monday. The problem was diagnosed, now they just needed the part to come in, no phone calls to let us know what's going on until Friday when they said "it's ready ". My wife pays the $850.00 bill and attempted to drive it, within 10 miles the cockpit started filling up with exhaust & anti-freeze smoke, it was so bad she had to roll down the windows on a cold, wet November day and park it 25 miles from our home, it appears that Gillis didn't even test drive it to make sure their fix worked. Gillis also didn't offer to tow it back to there shop, we had to use our insurance company. They had the car for approximately 3 or 4 more days, and this time it appears to be fixed, looks like they actually test drove it. Bad experience, they had the car for over 2 weeks, it had to go back twice, no offer to tow when the fault was clearly yours, no loaner car, not a lot of communication. We won't go back. read more

They lack experience in their technicians and provide incorrect diagnosis and/or say they fixed the issues that I had brought my truck in for, only to find out that they never fixed them and charged me saying they had. I usually do not repeat an auto service or any other service after 2 bad experiences, but I gave them 3 chances, and I will never ever take my truck into Bruce Titus of Shelton, ever again!!! The purchase experience was excellent. Brought Jeep that we purchased from Gillis in for first oil change. Told service about noise. They said, yes. There is a noise. Service made an appointment at that time. On the day of the service we took the day off and booked a room nearby. (We have one vehicle) The night before we called to confirm, and were told we do not have an appointment. Thanks, bye. So you know there's a problem with the jeep we bought from you, you knew we made an appointment. And you know we are still driving the jeep with the noise. There were no other customers in service at the time the appointment was made. We watched with our own eyes the appointment being scheduled. Seems like a "my apologies, let's schedule it again", instead of "thanks, bye" would have been the thing to do. We took a day off from work. read more

I would say that for the most part the process went well. We had a situation where the price had just been jacked up $1000 in a week. We asked for the previous week price, and they met that. In the fine print though, they added a $500 "accessories" package. The guys said it protects the paint from the birds and they put nitrogen in the tires. This was obviously a fast one to try and recoup the $1000 off the asking price: I would say just look out for the fine print with these people. With my experience you can trust a car salesman as far as you can throw them. So, nothing really new here. Probably a dealership that is every bit as "honest" as any other. read more

I want everyone in the area to be advised of how Gillis handled and mistreated my elderly, recently widowed Aunt, when her van broke down She had her van towed to the dealership at 10:45 AM. On 2/18/19. They told her she needed $2700 in repairs. (Her 2005 caravan isn't worth that much) they called her a little after 4:00 that afternoon. She told them to please fix it cuz she needs it for transportation to be able to get around and to her dr. Appointments etc. she then spoke to her older brother who informed her that was way too much money. So she called Gillis auto center, at 5:30 the same day and requested they do not perform the repairs. The next day when she went in to pick up her van, they charged her $440.02 For a "restocking fee" I have spoken directly with Matt the service manager and asked him to consider the circumstances of her situation, being recently widowed, and new the concept of having to get the vehicles repaired as this was always left to her husband. She lives alone and has no family in the area to help her. And Gillis Auto Center Inc. will stop at nothing to bring money in. This is a horrible example of quality customer care. Even when I mentioned the details of her being recently widowed and on a fixed income, Matt, the service manager his behind their "policy" of the "restocking" fee of 20%. I hauled my Explorer to these guys when it wouldn't start and they told me it was the fuel pump and said it would cost nearly $500 for the new unit and over $200 labor. I told them to go ahead and do the work if that's all that was wrong and asked them to do a pressure test on the AC while they had my vehicle to let me know how much it would cost to fix at a later date, and so I knew what was wrong so I might fix it myself later. I also had them do a few minor things like replace the belt. The next day they called me and said something is very wrong with my Explorer, that it failed a "cooling system pressure test" so they pulled the oil drain plug and it was full of anti-freeze. They said it either had a blown head gasket or a cracked head. The funny thing is I had changed the oil a few days before it wouldn't start and the oil was fine..I had also checked the oil before bringing it to them and it had no anti-freeze in the oil. I also never requested a cooling system pressure test, I asked for an AC test only to determine why the AC wouldn't work. At that point they said they pulled out all the new parts and put the old parts back on. When I went to trailer my Explorer to bring it home they hit me with a $700 fuel pump charge and told me not to drive the vehicle until I fixed the blown head gasket or cracked head problem. When I got it home I checked the oil and it was full of gas and was milky. It looked like they had ran the engine quite a bit for all the fluids to mix after the alleged blown head gasket. I changed the oil and anti-freeze and it wouldn't even start. During this process I noticed the fuel pump wasn't even priming...it didn't work at all. At that point it wasn't even worth my time or money to trailer the vehicle back to them when there were clearly other problems now. I'm not sure what happened while it was in their hands but I know the oil was fine before they got it. I don't know what a pressure test entails, but I believe they did some damage because what repair shop wouldn't immediately start the vehicle after installing a fuel pump to make sure it runs? They told me they never started it, yet somehow the fluids all got mixed together. I ended up selling the Explorer to someone who wanted to take on a project and losing about $1700. I wouldn't let these guys work on my bicycle. read more

Honestly, it grieves me terribly to say an unkind word. They seem like nice guys, some veterans work there. But I feel people should be warned about the service department. Something is not right. We brought our car in because the heat only came out on the driver's side. We were told we had to spend quite a great deal of money immediately because at any moment whatever was blocking the heat could move and destroy the engine... so we paid for a heater core and maybe a radiator besides. When we got it back there was clicking on the passenger side anytime we turned the fan on. And then a week later we were on a road trip and the car overheated. We were told there was a bubble that popped and caused the water level to drop. (By the way, the heater still only worked on the driver's side.) So we brought it back and paid MORE money for basically the same repair. And when we got it back, we finally did have heat on both sides of the car (now that it was summer), but the clicking continued when the fan was on (intermittently) AND the air conditioning was not working. Bring it back and they say a rock must have hit the AC and caused a leak, so that will be more money. And even though we showed them the clicking, they didn't try to fix it because it wouldn't do it again for the technician. My husband gets in the car still in the lot and immediately the clicking is there. Brought the technician out to hear the clicking. And hear we sit waiting for a call back to see IF they will fix the issue that clearly they caused on that first round of repair. We did bring our truck in for an alternator and apparently it is working. They just called to check about that, I guess the sound the computer was making was normal and has resolved. I have had an experience here that had my boyfriend and I so livid. All staff BUT the financing gentlemen was great. What gave me the negative experience was the Finance guy himself. When we approached Gillis at first we were led to believe certain facts when purchasing the new vehicle. Granted, there aren't always honest people in this line of work so you can't always take their word and that is unfortunate to say. The biggest issue wasn't so much being what I felt was lied to or mislead but the fact he said "I am done talking about this" in the middle of my sentence which sent me off the rail. Not only did that conversation come to a halt quickly, I took my car back went straight to Jeep in Olympia and purchased our 2018 Jeep through them. Another issue we encountered with the finance gentleman was he drafted the documents, had us sign them for the WRONG vehicle and simply stated to my boyfriend something along the lines of "one of you are just going to have to like it" and "it's too late, I already sent the paperwork and it was $50 to overnight FedEx it". Not verbatim but pretty damn close. When I got that phone call and that message was relayed to me I was lost for words, who is he to tell me to "just have to like it". I am going to be stuck with that car for 5 years and paying for it. He NEVER offered to re-do the loan pretty much just DEMANDED that I be happy with what I got. When I told him he didn't even have the courtesy to just offer to fix the issue, he then decided "well do you want me to?" AFTER OUR LOAN WAS APPROVED. Feeling cornered, we felt stuck. What makes this all the more worse was my boyfriend was an EMPLOYEE there and this is how we were treated. Not only was this unfair for us, they put him in a position where he felt he couldn't stand up to him in fear of losing his job. It caused tension between us because I got upset he was being walked on and not standing up for himself. They treated him this way during our own deal, we heard other clients got their loan with the wrong vehicle and this was truly a NIGHTMARE experience dealing with the finance. After leaving there we also had an issue getting our down payment back. We were told we'd have to get it on Monday which was fine cause we understood it was the weekend but when Monday came my boyfriend went there and they told him we had to wait till Friday. I had to call up there and just give them a friendly reminder that the contract we signed Saturday to cancel the loan stated Monday. Once that was said they let that department know so we can get our check back. Misunderstanding or communication, I can't say for sure but it only made our experience with them worse. Everyone was a delight to work with expect for the gentleman in finance, if you purchase a car from there be careful. read more

I purchased a 2018 F150 new at Gillis Ford in December2018. It wasn't properly cleaned in or out considering it was on the lot 4 at least several months. The bed had pine needles & small debris in it & the inside of the windshield was fogged up from exposure 2 sun & heat causing gassing of plastics 2 accumulate on glass & impairs vision especially early in the A.M. The truck had no GPS & a small 4" backup display so I asked the parts dept. @ Gillis Ford a few days later 2 order a GPS 8" screen unit that would run 4 the backup function as well as the GPS & that included the AM/FM radio & the heater air conditioning controls all 1 unit. Parts manager told me did not have 1, could not order 1, the only way could get 1 was 2 remove 1 from a truck on the lot that they wouldn't do. No if &s or buts about it, Gillis Ford would not help me end of story! I went home upset made calls 2 other Ford dealers & found none locally that could/would help me. I was stuck w/o GPS, & a tiny display that was inadequate 4 a large 4x4 truck! I began looking on the internet & located a Ford dealer in Michigan that had the unit & sold it 2 me 4 $2,500. It was an easy plug & play setup that I was able 2 do with no problems at all. All worked fine 4 over 2 & 1/2 years until currently when the radio operated on AM that I always listen 2 since I prefer talk radio 2 music started making horrible static noise continuously when passing AC power line xformers on poles by the 2 lane highways that are in rural areas in where I drive. The loud unfiltered noise permeating my truck cab blocks the words of dialog broadcast that causes me great irritation & lost dialog in storied format needed 2 comprehend material discussed. In prior years after installation of the new combined function unit there was some hum when passing what R known as "dirty" AC xformer units on poles that could B replaced with new ones by the utility company were they 2 get enough complaints. The hum seldom obliterated the voice transmission, & in my case wasn't so obtrusive & irritating as 2 cause 1 2 turn off the radio so I was able 2 tolerate it. Most people tend 2 listen 2music that can B tuned 2 FM so I imagine the problem I find very bad is 2 them minor & solvable by switching 2 FM from AM. This AC static interference thing became way more extreme & intolerable 4 months B4 my 3 year 36,000 mile Ford warranty is to expire. The term of the warranty & my place within it is not the problem! Gillis Ford by refusing 2 sell me a Ford GPS unit as on new Ford upscale trucks & sold as replacement parts 4 trucks requiring change due 2 failure/damage, 4ced me 2 buy the GPS/radio/cntrl module from another Ford dealer in Michigan & 2 install it myself thereby voiding my warranty on those parts bought & installed by myself NEVER-MIND that Gillis Ford 4ced me 2 buy the unit from an out of state Ford dealer in the first place. IN OTHER WORDS GILLIS FORD WAS DERELICT IN THEIR DUTY 2 A CUSTOMER WHO HAD PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE FROM THEM & THAT CAUSED THE WARRANTY PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. 2 make matters worse when the radio sound system problem revealed itself over 2 years later but still w/in the 3 year warranty of a new vehicle from Ford Mtr Co, Matt Tinnon the service manager with Gillis Ford informs me that I have 2 produce an invoice from the buy of the replacement module & that it has 2 have occurred within the last 24 mos. In other words U R SCREWED & WE WON'T HELP U UNLESS U PAY US 2 DO IT! DON'T BUY FROM GILLIS FORD! THEIR SERVICE AS DISPERSED BY THE GILLIS BROTHERS STINKS! THEY DON'T VALUE OR ACCOMMODATE THEIR CUSTOMERS AT ALL. PERIOD! Not only that but when I blew a 30A wiper fuse due 2 snow on windshield parts mgr refused 2 look for pink 2018 F150 wiper fuse under hood rectangular & apprx 1/2" long, unless I had part # of fuse! Couldn't find locally so had 2 order on internet & wait 1 week in winter snow conditions. I also had purchased a $2,200 additional warranty from Gillis. BUY ELSEWHERE! read more

Ugh... where to start... we have purchased 2 vehicles from Gillis. Both times the buying experience was painless. While not the quickest, it was pleasant. The displeasure comes from the service department. It has gone through a number of changes the last couple years. We most recently brought in our 2013 Durango for an oil change and service. When it came out, the service manager informed my husband that the steering rack assembly needed to be replaced. There was a severe power steering leak that needed to be taken care of sooner rather than later... to the tune of $1600.00- . We were trying to wrap our heads around something so major needing to be replaced- only 56k miles, only 4 years old and it's never been off road, so it wasn't making much sense. What also didn't make sense is how this isn't covered under powertrain warranty- it is the steering rack after all. We decided that we would see if we could find the repair a little less expensive. My husband called around and found a shop that would do it, they just had to order the part, and before they ordered the part they asked him to bring it in so they could take a look at it. Sooooo.... that's what he did today, and after it got done being looked at, the shop he was at said to him, I don't know why they are telling you this needs to be replaced, everything looks fine, hoses were fine, u-joints were tight, nothing looked out of the ordinary. As you can imagine REALLY not happy now. Buying a car- great 4 1/2 stars. It's the service department that is dragging this place down. read more

Turned out to be a great decision. Talked to Frank Frashik to be sure it was still there and drove an hour and a half to see it. I always dread purchasing a new car, things are never what they seem and I expected the same. To my amazement, not at Gillis. Frank was great, straight forward, knowledgeable and friendly, no BS. We sat down, I came up with a price, he went into his sales manager and in a short time came back and I had a deal I was happy with. Then came the part I always dread. In my past experiences you have to sit down with the sales manager and they try to sell you extras and then there are the extra fees that they try to put on the final number. None of this at Gillis. The only fees on there were the ones that should be there, no hidden costs and no pressure to buy extras. Just a quick, clean transaction. I went away extremely happy and a bit surprised how well it all went. Very unpleasant experience. A salesman greeted us and we told him who we came to see. My family and I were left to stand in the cold by this fellow, and were told our salesman "would be right there." Several minutes long minutes went by-Turns out that fellow was busy so we ended up with the first salesman. We were again left to stand in the cold while we waited for the keys. At this point the salesman had yet to address me-only my male spouse, and completely ignored my eight-year-old son. Salesman finally returned with the keys-had me give him my license and left us outside to wait again. At least this time we were in the truck, but the salesman had taken the keys so we felt odd shutting the doors because of the alarm. Besides, the abrupt attitude of the salesman and total lack of customer service already had us feeling like we were burdening this gentleman. We had driven to Shelton from Kent to purchase this truck, and while we had other options in mind, this was the one we wanted to drive home with. The salesman returned with the paperwork and I signed everything. He then walked away. WITH THE KEYS STILL IN HIS HAND. I hollered "hey, you forgot to give me the keys" and he kept walking. My husband had to get out of the car and run to catch up to grab the keys from him. Test drive went well-we liked the truck and were ready to go despite the poor service. We were realistic with what we had with our older Chevrolet Silverado and were pre-approved through a credit union we were long established with so it should have been a quicker experience; I also work for a CU and am familiar with how all these things work with dealers. Keep this in mind for later. We entered into the parking lot and stood again-then decided to walk inside. He met us partway and I told him I was interested-because this truck is for ME and not my spouse- and wanted to chat. At this point, no numbers, financing, what we had for trade in, nothing had been discussed. We sat down and the salesman immediately began talking about financing. We were preapproved through our CU-and while we did seem to be missing the used car interest rate on the forms, we had dealt with this CU for every vehicle purchase that we have made in the past eight years and am not only confident in them, but in the rates they offer and we KNOW how they operate. And I digress-I work at a CU and also because of that am familiar with how these things work. Simple phone call-problem solved. The salesman told us we didn't come in with a check, or a letter, and were only saying we were approved. Began to talk to us about how he could get us a better rate at Our Credit Union (reviews here, which I found, while he was trying to talk me into financing through them https://www.depositaccounts.com/banks/our-community-cu.html https://www.yelp.com/biz/our-community-credit-union-shelton) which I declined. I told him we had a preapproval in an email-my husband did too. He continued talking. This whole time he is addressing my husband. For personal reasons, we were opting to get the vehicle financed in my spouse's name only, but I would be driving the vehicle and driving the negotiations or so I had hoped. The salesman then proceeded to talk over me every time I disagreed with him. In front of my child-which was mortifying-salesman even raised his voice when I wouldn't stop talking. He then would turn after talking over me, to my husband and try and talk to him. The difference? My husband was allowed to finish speaking. This whole-time salesman has STILL not even acknowledged that we had a child with us-totally ignoring him. He then began talking about how we needed a backup contract because we didn't have proof that we were approved. My husband stated again we had an email-then he gave us his email address finally and email was forwarded. He then continues to talk to us about financing-at this point we have no idea if they will come down off the sticker price or what they would give us for the truck. I said let's chat-he wanted to sell a loan. I then asked for a back up contract from BECU and he didn't seem keen on this and continued to promote Our Community Credit Union. I also misheard him when he said the name and had to ask him twice-he was very rude about answering and was not on board with me asking on BECU. I work at BECU. I trust them. I am also a First Tech and BECU member. I know they will have my back and am not interested in spreading my business to a new CU, particularly one in bed with such shady back up contract practices. But wait, it gets better. Next he prints it out, begins arguing about interest rates, and at this point my spouse and I are planning a strategic escape. This is weird-we have financing, we said multiple times we didn't want to use their preferred CU (give good kickbacks, do they?). I originally had plans to buy a car in November, but as it would happen, plans changed and I ended up finding the car I wanted out at Gillis. I had originally planned on purchasing a new Mazda CX-5, but wasn't thrilled that the new ones come standard with leather seats (yeah, I'm a little old fashioned and wanted cloth), and no CD player (still have lots of those things laying around). Gillis happened to have a trade in come in that was extremely enticing. The car was the right color, had cloth interior, a CD player, sun roof and good sound system. The salesman that helped me was Frank Frashik. I hadn't purchased a car from a car lot in over 10 years, and he made my experience very pleasant. He's down to earth, willing to find the answer to questions that he may not have the answer to, and willing to go the extra mile for his customer. I walked away feeling like I was taken care of, treated respectfully and fairly. I made an appointment a week before bringing my vehicle in to be serviced, as I was having electrical issues with it. By the end of the day of my appointment they had not taken any time to look at my van but was told it would be diagnosed the following morning. On the second day I called at 11 as I was supposed to have heard from Gillis by mid morning. Again, my van had not been looked at but was told they'd get it right in and call me around noon. By 1 I called again and began to voice my displeasure. I was told that I would get a call back ASAP to let me know the status of my van. That call never came and by the end of the day I picked up my van, still parked where I had parked it the morning before. Terrible service!!!!! Never again!!!!!!!! read more

I had the worst service from Gillis than I have had in my life 76 years old and bought many new cars, but never treated like I was at Gillis. I bought a new Jeep cherokee, I made arrangements to have the recalls fixed, took the jeep over there left it all day and they never touched it, that was Lorie that made the appointment, she lied to me that it was being worked on at 5:00 P/m. I picked the jeep up at 5:30. I never heard a word from them for over a month, I called them and talked to service manager chris who said he would take care of it that was a month ago and still haven't heard from him, I would not have anything to do with that outfit if your going to buy a car or whatever go to a reputable dealer. We bought our used Dodge diesel truck there almost a year ago and could not be any happier with the impeccable customer service we received! The salesman was not pushy at all, and answered ALL of the questions we had honestly. They gave us a great deal on our trade in and also a good deal on the new-to-us trick. Just visited their lot for the first time. Decided to support the local dealership after years of their management shopping at my store. I have many years of sales experience and manage a very successful sales team here in Shelton myself. I was surprised by the level of disinterest the sales person who upped me displayed. Within 45 seconds of greeting me, after I roamed the lot for 5 minutes, he disappeared without offering to show me 1 vehicle. It is not the job of the customer to seek out the sales person. I probably would have bought a truck from them, had the sales person given any care to do his job. Apparently these guys make such great commission that they aren't interested in actually selling something. As someone who has worked in the auto sales industry and been in sales for more then a decade, I can garuntee that anyone who applies to work for me and had Gillis listed as a former employer, they won't be getting hired.
