I would like to share with you my recent experience with Kohout's Automotive Services, Lacey Washington. I took my 2009 Pirus into Les Schwab for an oil change and brakes inspection. Kohout's said that my rear bakes shoes were saturated in brake fluid, brake cylinders we're starting to leak, and drums need replacing. Kòhout's quoted me $750 to repair my rear. I called Les Schwab, and they gave me a quote of $466. I scheduled an appointment with Les Schwab to repair my rear brakes. When I took it in, Shawn from Les Schwab called me after their brake inspection to inform me that my brakes were good and only needed a minor brake adjustment. Les Schwab made the adjustment at NO charge. If I had gone with Kohout's inspection. I would have given them $750 for parts & labor that wasn't necessary. I will not recommend Kohout's Automotive Services to my family and friends. read more

I've taken various vehicles that I've owned over the last 10+ years to Kohout's and always have had a great experience. Easy drop off process and they are able to handle whatever problem/repair/situation with ease. There have been a couple instances where parts are required that weren't originally expected, but this was remedied as quickly and efficiently as possible. The front desk staff always keep in contact during any unexpected hiccups. The price for services are to be expected and are not astronomical, in my opinion. Took my turn in for some service and picked it up. I did go over the invoice once I got home and notice they are charging you double the cost of parts verses anywhere else. Thats messed up, I can get parts anywhere for say 150 for shocks they charge you 300 for the same exact part plus labor that's not good service for anyone and a total rip off. I would never bring my vehicle here again. Make sure you get a quote and go online and check the costs of parts. read more

Third time in this part of Washington and am very familiar with Kohout's. Took my SUV to them to check out a rattling sound from the front end. They quickly diagnosed the issue with a loose sway bar link nut being loose. In no way did they try to upsell anything else and was charged a really low fee. I called to make an appointment, making sure I they had a shuttle. I told they did and that it their first available appointment would be Aug 2., I think I called on the 28th . I already had a hotel reservation for that day and my grandson would be with me all week. They gave me an appointment on the 9th, but I had to drop it off the night before because to figure the problem they needed a first start of the day, They called me on the morning of the 8th, they told me didn't have a shuttle driver for the whole week and I would have to reschedule. I found another auto shop that has a shuttle and they could get me in that day. I was really disappointed, they didn't seem to care at all about my auto problems. Won't go back! read more

There is a real lack of concern for the customer at this place. Just before I brought my older rig in to get work done I got a check engine light. I found out what the light meant and asked that they fix that also. After looking into the problem I was told they could not get the part and they had no solution for the problem. I found a different mechanic who had no trouble finding the part and who is happy to work on my rig. Add to that they got grease all over the interior of my mint condition interior and I just had to get online and leave a comment. read more

I had 2 repairs done here and both times they had to be brought back because of improper installation costing me to lose another day of work. The repairs were both simple replacement parts. The first time was break pads which squeaked , and when I brought them back in I was told they had to break in. I drove them an additional 800 miles and they were still squeaking, at which time they said that they didn't resurface the rotors smooth enough and they would have to resurface them again. Taking even more surface off my rotors, resulting in less life on them, which would lead to me having to replace the rotors sooner than if they only resurfaced them once. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back in to have a belt that they said should be replaced soon, as it was showing signs of wear. I want to the trouble of ordering a top of the line "Gates" belt as this was my work vehicle and I wanted only the best. This belt was twice as much as the belts they had stocked in the parts store and had a 3 tear warrantee. After a few days the belt began to squeak, and again they told me it might have to "break in". It continued to squeak, I brought it back for a second time and they told me it "can't be adjusted or tightened because it was of a a self adjusting design. I bought some belt dressing at the parts store which worked for a few days. When it started to squeak again I returned for the third time when I second mechanic checked and said "oh this CAN be manually tightened". He then instructed a third mechanic to do the adjusting. After about 45 minutes the 3rd mechanic brought my car out and said "It's all good now". As I approached my car I could hear a distinct squealing. I pointed it out and he called out the 2nd mechanic again and back on the lift it went for another 20 minutes, finally coming out silent. 3 weeks or so later the belt screamed and broke, leaving me to call a tow truck, and back to Kohouts we went. After another lost day of work and left stranded carless, they replaced the belt and CHARGED ME for the replacement belt MORE than I paid for the top quality belt I special ordered. Needless to say I won't be giving them a 3rd chance. BEWARE! read more

Took my car in to get the brakes checked. They called me back in 45-60 minutes, let me know everything was fine, gave me the measurements for the pads, and didn't charge me a thing. I'm absolutely coming back to these guys for work...professional, quick, and solid place. read more

Sadly, I can only give them one star. I brought my 2005 Toyota Sienna AWD in for an alignment. When we came back to pick up the van, they didn't complete the alignment because they said the left tie rod end needed to be replaced. I was surprised since the van only has 62,000 miles on it (we are the original owners). The cost to do that + alignment was a little over $300. We took the van home, and since the weather was good the next day, I jacked up the van to start doing the repair myself. I could find no problem at all in the tie rod end or in any of the steering linkage. Everything was very tight. I made an appointment with the local Toyota dealership for an alignment, and told them about the left tie rod end, and asked them to pay special attention to it. They could find nothing wrong with it either and proceeded with the alignment. Besides recommending work that was completely unneeded, the pre-alignment angles from Toyota differed from the alignment angles measured by Kahout's on all four wheels. Kahout's had one rear wheel outside of factory specs (not adjustable) but Toyota found that same wheel to be within specs. read more

Positive experience. Did not give me a hard time about changing spark plugs before factory recommended time. Two other car repair places wanted to know WHY I needed or wanted to change plugs. My truck - that's why (and that Ford factory plugs for the Ecoboost engine do not have a good track record). They understood my request no problem. My husband and I had gone to Kohouts Automotive several times for both our vehicles. My last trip there was for a wheel alignment on my vehicle that I had just bought new tires for and was about to make a long trip back home to Arizona, they told me one wheel was out of spec and that it wasn't a big deal because it was not a wearing angle and the repair to get it in spec was not necessary. My dad then suggested I get my brakes checked so I had gone to Firestone, Firestone said my brakes were fine however I had severe wear on different parts of my suspension, which i found rather odd because Kohouts did not seem concerned or bring anything to my attention. I went back to Kohouts to tell them i had just been there a month prior for my alignment and that this is what Firestone was saying. They looked at the estimate all crazy and made it seem like Firestone was talking out of their behind. After further discussion with my father he advised to just have the repairs done to ensure the safety of my children on our trip home. I expressed my concern to Firestone and explained I had never experienced two shops being on polar opposites regarding work on my vehicle. When I arrived to pay they brought out the parts and to my surprise I was able to see the sever cracking, wear and even torn pieces that were replaced. I wrote a letter to Kohouts explaining my dissapointment especially if this should have been seen, I also included pictures of the damaged and worn parts, I did request to be reimbursed for the prior alignment because Firestone said had they properly inspected my vehicle and seen this damage they would not/ or should not have done the alignment. Which after these repairs I had to pay for again only ONE MONTH APART. Kohouts did not even bother to respond or acknowledge me atleast 3 weeks since receiving, which brings me here today to share my unfortunate experience. read more

This 5-star review is long overdue as I have been going to Kohouts successfully for over 25 years. My experience is that there is no Olympia service provider of any kind more trustworthy, reliable, cost-benefit and effective. Consumer Reports has articles regarding auto repair that independnent auto repair provide much higher quality work, much lower costs. Kohouts is a stand-out example of that C.R. conclusion. For example, not knowing that Kohouts repaired brakes, I went to the dealer for repair. Its service manager called to say that I also needed a $500 engine repair as indicated by engine oil on the timing belt. When I refused, he called days later: "Your engine wont last 2 months". I took it to Kohouts for a 2nd opinion. Owner Ron explained in detail that the engine scenario could not be true, and that I did not need engine work. None done: sold the Japanese car 50,000 miles later. You don't forget that kind of help. I think that the quality of Kohouts comes down to the high personal integrity of the owner and the people who work there. It's customer service, pure & simple. read more

Kohout's really came through for me last summer when I blew the rear end out of my 05 Nissan Titan. The young lady (I think her name is Virginia) who works the front desk there probably knows more about automotive parts and repair than any 10 mechanics put together do. She gave me an initial quote but told me that was on the high end so I wouldn't get any surprises. She said she would check around and see what she could find in the way of getting better parts and a better price. She called me up later and asked if I could wait an extra day or two as she had found the parts for a good price but they had to be shipped up from California. They got everything together, performed a couple of needed services at my request and I got back on the road. A month later I noticed a minor oil leak at the rear axle seal and took it back into them to have it looked it. Now understand this was the kind of thing where it could of been a judgment call in saying the leak was caused by the previous work or the leak developed coincidently later after the axle repairs were made. It really could have gone either way. However they didn't even bring it up for debate or consideration. They fixed it free of charge, handed my keys and told me to have a great day. That folks is what I call customer service and why Kohouts will continue to get my business and the business of anybody else I can send their way. read more
