One of the best parts is that they now have a food truck right by my house, which makes it super convenient to stop by whenever I'm craving great Mexican food. My favorites are the quesabirria and the steak tacos, the consomé is amazing and the service is just as good as the food! This is a SOLID taco spot. They offer everything you might want including beers (Corona and Modelo). There is a salsa bar and in there are two really great selections. Picked white onions with habanero strips and another jalapeño and onion selection. I mean, these two were so good it was worth the price of the meal! This is my first time going after hearing so many great things about this place. Oh my goodness, the flavor of the food and the quality of the food is extraordinary. I was pleasantly surprised with the Birria tacos, I am super particular about them as I know how much of a delicacy it is and how hard it is to cook it properly. The Carne Asada tacos were so delicious so much flavor was packed in the tortillas, although I don't eat pork, I did take a bite of the Cuban torta, and it was phenomenal. I did not expect to like Gil Tacos this much. They have three different sources that you can try, the spiciest one was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend it if you like spicy. I've never heard of this place before coming here by chance; the place I was originally going to closed early, and I am not mad about that. I don't usually come out this way, so after a quick check of Yelp, it showed this place close by and highly recommended. And another plus, they offer online ordering through Yelp. Always a plus to see a place poppin' at non-peak times imo. I made sure to order a couple of different tacos to try (and share with the hubs) so I ordered two of each of the asada, pollo and carnitas tacos. I clearly realized my mistake after taking one bite, because, omg, these tacos are are so, so tasty. I think someone used the word phenomenal and I 100% agree. Out of the three types of tacos, the chicken taco was my favorite. Walking into this place made me feel so happy!!! It feels like a little part of Mexico and I love it! The service was excellent and their menu is extensive. Any place that sells elotes/esquites is A+ in my book. I called to order a torta to go. Once I arrived and saw that they sold elotes I added one of those as well. The elote was wonderful! The torta was good but not my favorite. I was looking for more cheese or something creamy with my gringa (white) tastebuds. If you are in the area definitely check this place out. I came across this place on Cinco de Mayo. They have a pretty standard Mexican food menu such as tacos, tortas, nachos, quesadillas, and burritos. You can also find french fries here. They also offer Mexican dinks and beer. They have their own private parking lot and many people that came in while I was there had called their order in ahead. The restaurant has a decent sized dining area, which I chose to take an advantage of. I ordered asada and chorizo tacos and also got some Mike fries. The food was pretty good, and the Mike fries were off the chart. The best way that I can describe them are that they are taco salad, but instead of a tortilla bowl, everything is put over a bed of fries. It was delicious, like I said. Perhaps it is because I didn't order the signature item (Gil's taco) that I don't know what all the fuss is about. When we visited, theree was a steady stream of customers, dine in and take out, even though it was late afternoon on a weekday. My companion and I both ordered taco salad- -hers w fish (upcharge of $2.50), mine with chicken. Presentation was good; it had eye appeal. It was a plate of tortilla chips covered with some seasoned chicken/fish and topped with shredded lettuce, cheese and probably some other stuff. We were not dissatisfied, but neither of us finished our meal and neither of us desired to take our leftovers home. We also got a small side of guacamole with chips for $5. It appeared to be freshly made, with pieces of cilantro and tomato visible. Flavor was heavy on the onion. Again, I didn't dislike it, but neither would I rave about it. Companion tried the frozen pineapple drink and really enjoyed that. Overall, they must be doing something right to warrant such repeat customers, but I suggest ordering the reasonably-priced tacos ($3) instead of trying something more adventurous. One item of concern was female kitchen worker who pulled a filled trash bag out of can in kitchen area and then handed a customer a to-go lid without sanitizing her hands. A taco joint near the Indy airport. Flew into Indiana craving tacos and left completely satisfied. My mom and I came to Indiana to drive to Danville, IL. We didn't take into account it would be about an hour drive so we decided to grab something to eat closer to the airport. I had the biggest craving for tacos so a quick Yelp search brought us here to Gil's Tacos. We got three carne asada tacos and the Gil Taco. The Gil Taco is their specialty and is a mix of different types of proteins. I have an affinity for carne asada tacos so every place I go, I have to try them. They were pretty good here, especially with the corn tortilla. The Gil taco definitely stole the show and satisfied my taste buds. The UPS delivery person overheard l, told us Gil Tacos should be a solid place to have lunch. it's dicey, but the food is really good and authentic. I'm all about that stuff. So we went, and we ate. I had my holy trinity of tacos. The caveat, tripa and the lengua. All them were phenomenal. Pair it up with the green sauce or the red sauce and we're winning. I dig these kind of places, no B.S. types. You bark your order at the cashier, they give you a number. Someone at the hole in the all yells out your number. You pick up your food and you smash away. This is the very definition of a good food institution. The tables are clean I would totally eat here again if given the chance. I have to write this review with a caveat. If I were comparing this restaurant to what *most* people consider nice, it wouldn't get high marks. The decor is inexpensive and not meant to stand out. The building is older but well maintained. HOWEVER as an American who used to make weekly trips to rural Mexico, GIL Taco is where I come when I want the authentic Mexican experience. This is as real as it gets without heading South. The service is friendly and fast. The food is out of this world. I love that they have meats such as tripe and tongue on the menu, which are highly underrated and should be more common. Everything is fresh and seasoned to perfection and is obviously prepared from scratch. Their salsas are spicy and extremely flavourful. I tried their verde - crema style salsa for the first time on this visit, and I want to go back to see if they'll sell me a bucket of it. If you want a nice restaurant to impress a first date, this probably isn't it. I was in the area so decided to stop here for lunch. They have plenty of parking in their lot. When you enter you need to order at the counter then once the food is available you pick up at the window. The staff were very busy so they were a bit short with patrons. They have plenty of seating available but it seems most people do take out. I ordered the quesadilla with chicken for $9. It was a huge portion and tasty however it does have a bit of a kick to it.
