I don't know why I hadn't written a review for Gil Tacos! I really can't even count how many times I've been there. The tacos are delicious and the perfect size. My favorites are the quesabirria and the steak tacos, the consomé is amazing and the service is just as good as the food! The esquite (corn in a cup) is also top notch, they now have the option to add hot Cheetos to it!! At lunch time there's usually a line that moves extremely quick and the ambiance is relaxed with fun music in the background that isn't too loud, just perfect
This is a SOLID taco spot. They offer everything you might want including beers (Corona and Modelo). There is a salsa bar and in there are two really great selections. Picked white onions with habanero strips and another jalapeño and onion selection. I mean, these two were so good it was worth the price of the meal! I couldn't stop eating the habanero strips although it took out one of the band members (because it was so spicy - he stopped eating LOL). So just a solid Mexican taco place. Worth the stop.
I always get the steak tacos on flour (not corn) tortillas. The service is fast and my order is always right on! Cozy, authentic mexican restaurant that you can carry out or eat in. Tacos are reasonably priced and always ample parking. On the weekends this spot can get pretty busy so be ready for a bit of wait. I will always rate Gil's as one of the best mexican restaurants in Indy.
I saw Gil Tacos was only 15 minutes away from the airport with over 2,000 reviews on Google, so decided to take our group here before we headed home. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived. My boyfriend and I ordered four different tacos (steak, marinated pork, fish, and shrimp) and a cubana torta. I enjoyed the tacos more so than the torta since it was a bit messy to eat the torta. The sauces they have are good! I really like their avocado sauce they had! Nice and creamy!
This is my first time going after hearing so many great things about this place. Oh my goodness, the flavor of the food and the quality of the food is extraordinary. I was pleasantly surprised with the Birria tacos, I am super particular about them as I know how much of a delicacy it is and how hard it is to cook it properly. The Carne Asada tacos were so delicious so much flavor was packed in the tortillas, although I don't eat pork, I did take a bite of the Cuban torta, and it was phenomenal. I did not expect to like Gil Tacos this much. They have three different sources that you can try, the spiciest one was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend it if you like spicy. The service was great. Food came out relatively fast, I will say that, even though it's not in the best of neighborhood, it is definitely worth going here and trying something different. I will say this place is not done up like more traditional Mexican restaurants in the area, however, I genuinely believe that as long as the food is amazing, the vibrant or ambience of the location is not super important. They have a nice decent size to open area to sit and eat, and with amazing food like this, that's all you really need.

The birria, available only on Fridays and Saturdays, was incredibly flavorful--well worth the wait. The horchata was perfectly sweet and creamy, complementing the meal beautifully. His parents loved the tacos dorados and the rice, though the beans weren't their favorite. Overall, it was a fantastic lunch, and we're already looking forward to our next visit!
I've never heard of this place before coming here by chance; the place I was originally going to closed early, and I am not mad about that. I don't usually come out this way, so after a quick check of Yelp, it showed this place close by and highly recommended. And another plus, they offer online ordering through Yelp. This place is easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. But surprisingly, the restaurant was very busy for a weekday afternoon; almost all of the tables were occupied. Always a plus to see a place poppin' at non-peak times imo. I made sure to order a couple of different tacos to try (and share with the hubs) so I ordered two of each of the asada, pollo and carnitas tacos. I clearly realized my mistake after taking one bite, because, omg, these tacos are are so, so tasty. I think someone used the word phenomenal and I 100% agree. Out of the three types of tacos, the chicken taco was my favorite. I am, of course, not opposed to trying every taco they offer to confirm it's my favorite. :P Note about ordering time: I ordered through the Yelp app and arrived within 7 minutes of ordering. The restaurant was very busy, however, I only waited for less than 5 minutes for my takeout to be ready. Pretty amazing imo :)
Pretty bad experience to say the least.... I absolutely will not be going back. They have community salsa sitting out at the front, was excited because there were 3 different types. I needed an extra cup to put some of the salsa in since they were in community bottles. I was then told I would have to pay to use a cup to put the salsa in..... you want me to pay to use a disposable cup? Absolutely absurd. The salsa weren't labeled and all of them were spicy. Burritos 5/10 (Comes with meat, cheese, rice, lettuce, tomato & sour cream.) - extremely dry chicken. Very underwhelming and under filled. Asada Taco -/10 - didn't try but Queso 6/10 - good
We have drove past this place several times and they are always busy so we decided to give it a try. I don't get the hype. The food lacked flavor and appeal. The fries were good but not the toppings. The steak and chorizo were dry and chewy. Tacos were greasy Sauces were good and the churro was pretty good. Maybe they were having an off day or it's cause we were there right after the lunch rush. I don't foresee us eating here again or recommending them.

This place is very laid back - you go up to the ordering counter , they give you an order number and they call it out when it's ready and you pick it up yourself. Definitely no table service which is just fine by me! This is a local spot - very unassuming but they definitely have some of the best tacos I've ever had - PERIOD! Authentic yumminess 1000%. If you are down for some non-pretentious, local neighborhood spot for quite possibly some of the best tacos in Indy .. do yourself a favor and check them out!
Gil Tacos was an awesome experience! The steak tacos were absolutely amazing--packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right. I also tried the burrito and the taco salad, and both were fresh, filling, and delicious. The corn was just okay and wasn't my favorite item, but everything else more than made up for it. One of the best parts is that they now have a food truck right by my house, which makes it super convenient to stop by whenever I'm craving great Mexican food. If you're looking for flavorful tacos and generous portions, Gil Tacos is definitely worth checking out! read more

Gil's is a tough place to find but worth the trip. From the outside, the restaurant looks a bit divey, but inside the dining room is bright and clean. You order at the counter, which is around a corner and wait until they call your number. The menu offers tacos, tortas, burritos, loaded fries and more. Prices run about $12 for most entrees. The dining room was packed on a Tuesday with local work crews. The food comes out fairly quick. I had two Gil Tacos, which are made from a blend of their meats plus cilantro and onions. The tacos are small and served with cucumbers and lime. The tacos were tasty, meat flavorful and corn tortillas intense. My husband had a Steak Burrito. He thought the steak was very tender with a lot of flavor. The burrito was filled with meat, rice, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. For beverages, they have Mexican sodas, water, coke products and beer. The restrooms are clean and nice. They offer limited parking in their private lot. read more

Really good tacos here! They do them up nicely and flavors are pretty good. Their salsas were really tasty and the spicy was hot! Inside was nice and clean too. Prices are decent, and they have a large menu loaded with all sorts of appetizing looking Mexican eats! Highly recommend stopping in! read more

This place, was literally the best Mexican food I've had from a restaurant in years! So dang good, taquitos were juicy , rice was seasoned so well , beans were great! Horchata? ON POINT. If ever I'm in town again I'll definitely be coming back. Chicken "tacos dorado" BOMB! read more

I grabbed an early dinner at Gil. The place is modest, but they offer friendly counter service and a pleasant seating area. I had the John Fries and a carne asada steak taco. The taco was excellent. Tender, flavorful meat and a fresh tasty tortilla - delicious. The fries were a unique take on loaded fries. They were topped with pork, cheese sauce and vegetables. Heard about this place having the most authentic Mexican in the city so I had to check it out. After living in San Diego for 4 years it's been something I've been missing since moving back to Indy. I was real hungry when I went so I decided on the Cubano Torta. Milanesa, hotdog, beans, egg, cheese, this sandwich had it all. It was phenomenal!! I need to come back and give them the true test of trying their tacos. Hard to beat value for an $11 1500 calorie lunch haha. Come check them out! read more

Walking into this place made me feel so happy!!! It feels like a little part of Mexico and I love it! The service was excellent and their menu is extensive. Any place that sells elotes/esquites is A+ in my book. I called to order a torta to go. Once I arrived and saw that they sold elotes I added one of those as well. The elote was wonderful! The torta was good but not my favorite. I was looking for more cheese or something creamy with my gringa (white) tastebuds. If you are in the area definitely check this place out. I'm sure you'll find some good eats! read more

Perhaps it is because I didn't order the signature item (Gil's taco) that I don't know what all the fuss is about. When we visited, theree was a steady stream of customers, dine in and take out, even though it was late afternoon on a weekday. My companion and I both ordered taco salad- -hers w fish (upcharge of $2.50), mine with chicken. Presentation was good; it had eye appeal. It was a plate of tortilla chips covered with some seasoned chicken/fish and topped with shredded lettuce, cheese and probably some other stuff. We were not dissatisfied, but neither of us finished our meal and neither of us desired to take our leftovers home. We also got a small side of guacamole with chips for $5. It appeared to be freshly made, with pieces of cilantro and tomato visible. Flavor was heavy on the onion. Again, I didn't dislike it, but neither would I rave about it. Companion tried the frozen pineapple drink and really enjoyed that. Overall, they must be doing something right to warrant such repeat customers, but I suggest ordering the reasonably-priced tacos ($3) instead of trying something more adventurous. One item of concern was female kitchen worker who pulled a filled trash bag out of can in kitchen area and then handed a customer a to-go lid without sanitizing her hands. No comment was made to her, but said item went in trash instead. read more

If you want tacos, this is it! They have authentic D.F style tacos with so many different meats to choose from. We had tacos, carne asada fries, tamales, and a big ol' torta. This is some of the best Mexican food we've had in a while and I can't wait to go back and try out more items from their menu. Food is absolutely fire! read more

A taco joint near the Indy airport. Flew into Indiana craving tacos and left completely satisfied. My mom and I came to Indiana to drive to Danville, IL. We didn't take into account it would be about an hour drive so we decided to grab something to eat closer to the airport. I had the biggest craving for tacos so a quick Yelp search brought us here to Gil's Tacos. We got three carne asada tacos and the Gil Taco. The Gil Taco is their specialty and is a mix of different types of proteins. I have an affinity for carne asada tacos so every place I go, I have to try them. They were pretty good here, especially with the corn tortilla. The Gil taco definitely stole the show and satisfied my taste buds. I'm not sure what they season these tacos with but they were absolutely delicious. We also got a side of guac and chips, which were pretty good. If I ever find myself flying into Indy craving tacos again, I'd be back! read more

My colleage and I were at the concierge asking about where to have lunch. The UPS delivery person overheard l, told us Gil Tacos should be a solid place to have lunch. it's dicey, but the food is really good and authentic. I'm all about that stuff. So we went, and we ate. I had my holy trinity of tacos. The caveat, tripa and the lengua. All them were phenomenal. Pair it up with the green sauce or the red sauce and we're winning. I dig these kind of places, no B.S. types. You bark your order at the cashier, they give you a number. Someone at the hole in the all yells out your number. You pick up your food and you smash away. This is the very definition of a good food institution. The tables are clean I would totally eat here again if given the chance. I have to write this review with a caveat. If I were comparing this restaurant to what *most* people consider nice, it wouldn't get high marks. The decor is inexpensive and not meant to stand out. The building is older but well maintained. HOWEVER as an American who used to make weekly trips to rural Mexico, GIL Taco is where I come when I want the authentic Mexican experience. This is as real as it gets without heading South. The service is friendly and fast. The food is out of this world. I love that they have meats such as tripe and tongue on the menu, which are highly underrated and should be more common. Everything is fresh and seasoned to perfection and is obviously prepared from scratch. Their salsas are spicy and extremely flavourful. I tried their verde - crema style salsa for the first time on this visit, and I want to go back to see if they'll sell me a bucket of it. If you want a nice restaurant to impress a first date, this probably isn't it. If you want an authentic Mexican experience and what is likely to be the best Mexican food you ever have in this part of the world, GIL Taco is the only place to be! read more
