I recently had an emergency appendectomy and hernia repair at the same time. I was admitted to Scripps Encinitas on Friday evening, had surgery Saturday morning led by Dr Galloway, and was home by 3 pm Saturday only taking two Tylenol post surgery. Dr Galloway and team were as efficient and effective as one could ask for. I thank them and highly recommend. read more

Simply the best. Dr. Galloway did open inguinal hernia surgery on me three weeks ago, and I could not be more pleased. I experience no significant pain--a testament to his skill and attention to detail. I am recovering quickly, doing everything a normally do, and in another week am told I can return to the gym and swimming. Dr. Galloway is one of the finest surgeons in the region, his staff are helpful and supportive throughout the process. The nurses and staff at Scripps hospital in Encinitas were uniformly superb. My operation was at 8:30 a.m., and I was home and comfortable by 11. I took a few Tylenol the first couple of days and never even needed the prescription pain relievers the hospital provided. His entire staff of nurses and administrative personnel are skilled, respectful, and kind professionals, which reflects Doctor Galloway's leadership skills. I developed a hernia July 2019. Dr. Galloway was recommended by several people on nextdoor. I met with him two times before scheduling the surgery. I had a lot of questions ( actually brought in a list). He was very patient and answered all of my questions in depth. He is very personable and easy going. He also has a lot of experience. I opted to go with the laparoscopic procedure in order to see if I had a bilateral hernia. I was nervous on the day of the surgery but the nurses were great. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Landon, was very personable and eased my anxiety. I told the nurse My sister is a nurse anesthetist and recommended having him give me Versed. She repaired the info to him and he thought it was a good idea. He had excellent technique when putting in my IV. Dr. Galloway also checked up on me before the surgery and allayed my fears. The surgery went smoothly and I awoke with my wife by my side. I took one Percocet for pain. I had a little bit of pain the first day but never needed to take any additional pain medication. I took two weeks off from work and followed all the rules. I didn't work out for 7 weeks. He said everything looked great at my 2 follow ups. I have had no issues since and I exercise regularly (I try not to overdo the weight training though). Don't let Dr. Galloway's laid back persona fool you. He is an excellent surgeon and I highly recommend him. Thanks to my wife for finding him on nextdoor. Dan G. read more

If I could give a 100 star rating, I would... Dr. Galloway has assisted my family and I, as well as our extended family, on multiple occasions over the past 15 years. He repaired both my husband and my hernias, he pretty much saved my life when my appendix was rupturing and he also went above and beyond when our dear friend was diagnosed with Gall Bladder cancer. He helped us get her into the right hands of an excellent surgeon at Scripps Green Hospital. He is most definitely one of the very best general surgeons in San Diego county and he has the for sure the best bedside manner of any doctor/surgeon I have ever met. He also just assisted our family on a 2nd opinion today regarding our son. Just want to make sure you all know if you, your family member or a friend need a general surgeon, Gil is your guy. Trust me when I say, you can trust this man. I also like him very much as a person too as he is extremely knowledgeable and very kind. Thank you Dr. Galloway for your kindness, your experience and your overall timeliness on always getting back to our family when called upon or in need. Sincerely, Cara Coogan read more

I was very happy to have Doctor Galloway as my surgeon. He is a Master of his profession. It's easy to talk to him and he'll explain things, so you understand. I had a serious surgical problem I needed an operation. I was referred to Dr. Galloway. I had heard that he has the best reputation in the area and has been in practice for over 25 years. I called his office and they answered the phone immediately and gave me an appointment promptly. When I went to the office the parking was easy and the access was very good with an elevator and everything. I met Dr. Galloway and he seemed very professional. He explained my problem to me very clearly and explain the options to me in such a way that I felt quite reassured. We subsequently followed through and did the operation a few weeks later. Everything turned out very well and I am extremely happy with my surgical results. I would highly recommend Dr. Galloway to my friends and family! read more

I recently had emergency surgery to remove my appendix, and Dr. Galloway performed the procedure. He did an excellent job, and I was able to leave the hospital later that same day. The three ports he opened in my abdomen to perform the procedure healed quickly, and less than a week later, I felt completely recovered. If you find yourself in the ER and Dr. Galloway is your surgeon, have confidence that he will do a great job; and if you're seeking elective surgery, give his office a call. You can't do better. I had my follow up visit with him today and everyone in his office was professional and friendly, and I left feeling grateful that Dr. Galloway was the surgeon who gave me back my health. Thank you, Dr. Galloway! read more

I have to say my surgery with Dr Purgett was the best. He is great doctor. My surgery was at Scripps Encinitas main. They were great too. Working with there office good and bad. They got my surgery approved quickly. Got me on the surgery schedule with in a couple of days. So that part was the best. I work and need to be of work for six weeks. I filled out my disability online. Then forward the R number to them to finish my claim. I was told they don't use the computer for that. And then would have to send in the paperwork. I was told it would take maybe a week longer than them doing it on the computer. It took them two weeks to fill out the paperwork and send it in. Then I was told another 3 to 4 weeks. That's 5 to 6 weeks with no money. So if you need to get disability pay while off for your surgery. I would look for a office that uses the computer. This doesn't take away from the Superior medical care I was given by them. read more

I'm a fan of Dr. Galloway, his friendly staff and small surgical center. Each made my recent surgery a low-key, positive experience. Pre-op was simplified by an efficient scheduler, along with a knowledgeable, friendly surgical nurse who stayed with my case from beginning to end. There were no long, cold hallways to be navigated and I awoke from the procedure in a small, quiet, recovery room to the reassurances of Dr. Galloway that all had gone well. His calm disposition and thoughtful demeanor are added bonuses to his fine, surgical skills. When all was said and done, I walked away from my post-op check, with no complications, and a barely, noticeable scar which, in my opinion, makes the whole experience as good as medicine gets! read more

After eight years of trying to solve excruciating abdominal pain, exams and studies by 6 doctors of various specialties and 1 ineffectual surgery, I was fortunate to be referred to Dr Gil Galloway. Feeling nervous and upset over what might need to be done....who walks in my room...Dr Galloway! At that very moment I felt 10 times better that he was there! The day of my surgery they took great care of me, even in my state of nervousness. Everything was done with precision and great care. My surgery went off without any issue and was successful. This doctors office is terrible and if you love your family or self do not go here. Mr. Galloway (I refuse to call him a doctor due to his lack of consideration for his patients) was responsible for the care of my fiance. His office took over a month to send images to a surgeon after telling my fiance that she needed a biopsy due to a suspicious growth in her breast. Yes, they told her you may have breast cancer and then proceeded to lose images and take over a month to correspond with the surgeons office. Do yourself and loved ones a huge favor and avoid this terrible doctor/doctors office. read more

My review is overdue. In November 2017, the day before Thanksgiving, I was admitted to Scripps Hospital with severe appendicitis. Within an hour of my arrival to the ER I was seen by Dr. Galloway (who was on call that day) and within two hours, in the OR. He was superb, removed the offending appendage and even took a photo of it for me... I cracked up but I appreciated the effort! The follow up visit two weeks later went without a hitch and I have had no further issues. Dr. Galloway is very professional and efficient and I felt very fortunate that he was the attending surgeon that day. Thank you Dr. Galloway! read more

Amazing staff, office, and doctor. Dr. Galloway is personable, professional, and very skilled. He spent as much time as I needed during pre and post surgical appointments. And wait time to see him was usually just 5 mins! They really care about people. It is so rare with doctors and in clinics these days. I was so pleasantly surprised and felt so welcome every time I went in. He explained all my options and what I could expect with each choice. I never felt rushed. The surgery went great. The experience was easy. Surgery isn't fun but having such a happy, professional staff and high quality doctor made it almost painless (literally and figuratively).
