That is because, as most of us know, going to a locksmith can be quite costly. It is that way, I believe, because locksmithing is a profession that requires specialized training, licensure, and insurance. This past week I had a need to have a duplicate "smart key" fob programmed to my recently purchased new, used vehicle that came with only one fob. Against my better judgment and with the hope of saving some money, I purchased a "ready to be programmed" fob off of a popular auction website. The fob itself was noticeably lighter than the OEM fob and was considerably cheaper; like $175 cheaper. Anyhoo, I took my Chinese-made, reverse-engineered fob to Advanced Locksmith to have it programmed. Before going, I called a received a quote from Gage one of the shop's technicians. Upon my arrival, Gage promptly went to work! While in the process of attempting the programming, and after the programming failed, Gage involved another technician, Nebiat. As the efforts to program my fob met with additional failed attempts, Nebiat and Gage explained one of the pitfalls with purchasing fobs over non-OEM websites is, that sometimes the fobs are locked from being previously programmed and therefore not usable. Much to my dismay, I believed my fob to be just such a fob. With that, Nebiat offered a new fob purchase from Advanced Locksmith. One that Nebiat assured me would accept the programming. Of course, purchasing this new fob would be expensive and I was not looking forward to having to pay so much money on such short notice. Nebiat was very understanding and was kind enough to offer the fob at a discount, for my being a veteran of the armed forces. I was prepared to purchase the new fob when Nebiat offered to try the programming of my Chinese-made fob once more. As he attempted the programming, he recognized the problem to be with my truck having already programmed into its memory, the maximum number of fobs. Nebiat was then able to clear the computer's memory of programmed fobs and successfully program my cheaper fob! Yaaay!!! I was elated and grateful for Nebiat's willingness to go the extra mile and put customer service over profit.
