Had a great experience at this Giant which I went to after a rotten experience at the Giant on Brentwood Road. This re-opened Giant is re-designed to not feel like a giant (ha ha) warehouse but more like a "marketplace." It even has a place where you can stand and have a glass of wine ($5) or cuppa coffee. The staffer here was leaning on the counter chatting loudly on the phone about "Palestinians and Jews" --not exactly what I want to hear about when shopping. The wine selection is huge and I found all the fruit and vegetables and dairy that we needed. I decided not to do Self Check Out due to previous rotten experience (at Brentwood Giant) so went to a cashier line. A manager came by and said I could go to another line, so I did, but this other cashier was now muttering and murmuring something (either about the manager giving her another large-order customer or whatever, who cares) so I returned to the line I had previously been at which had a FRIENDLY CASHIER who said hello. While in the store I noted how clean it was and fairly well laid-out but designed to make you feel like it is not a huge supermarket (notice the brick wall!). I would give this 5 stars but for the two staffers who clearly don't like their jobs. The other three I had interaction with were friendly and helpful. I was there about 2-3pm on a Wed afternoon, which is a perfect time to shop as few people in the store. Parking is across the entrance lane and free for the first 2 hours, so get the cashier to stamp your ticket. The other negative was the parking garage is a bit dark which always makes me nervous but since this site is still under construction maybe they will add more lighting later. I'm sure to go back to this store although Aldi and Safeway tend to be cheaper on many items.... read more

Clean and open late. We were visiting town and staying near by. Needed some quick supplies for the night, and it was conveniently open after 11pm. read more

Very disappointed with the floral department. Very high prices, flowers are not in good condition (live or cut), and the arrangements are poorly put together. Hopefully they will get this department in better shape. So much potential! read more

FINALLY a grocery store near downtown DC that carries kosher meat!!! I've seen chicken and turkey so far, hopefully the selection increases! Also, sometimes I want to have a glass of wine while I pick up groceries. Thank you for understanding me, Giant. Thank you. read more

One star b/c zero star isn't an option. This location gets an "F" in my report card. Salad bar and hot food area have no napkins at all. Some days if you are lucky you maybe handed a roll of paper towel they grabbed from the bathroom. Speaking of the bathrooms - they are filthy. read more

I'm a regular here, living nearby, and they normally are a four star grocery -- reasonable prices, good selection, nice clean store. They earned their extra star by staying open full normal hours during the January 2016 blizzard -- by housing their employees at the nearby hotel and asking all of them to pull double or triple shifts -- not for the profits, but because it was the right thing to do for the community around them. Several people have voiced complaints about employees being rude or fooling around -- I've never had that problem, and have always found them to be friendly and helpful. They are frequently training new employees, so not everyone is a seasoned pro, but their attitudes have never been anything other than wanting to help. If you find someone who is not, complain to the managers -- they are very receptive and want to make this a great store for everyone in this diverse community. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! My favorite grocery store in the DC area, where you can release the stresses of food shopping with a beer or wine...although you probably won't be stressed because you can actually walk around the store without knocking into 50 people or waiting in a line that wraps around the freezer section (a la Trader Joes). Good selection of cheeses, beer/wine, meats (ground lamb available!), fruits/veggies- I'm surprised more people don't shop here, but that's fine with me, I like it that way! read more

Impressive food quality and ambiance for the money. Much more spacious than whole foods and store brand is decent. Produce is good too! Also better than expected beer selection. They even fill growlers! Why don't other giants have good beer?!? read more

I want to like this location....really I do. But as for their "fresh" produce , I always have issues at this location. Giant does have great sale prices, but the produce is always difficult to grab and go, sifting through items that are horrible and seemed to be left on shelves as a filler when many of their produce items are just bad quality or out of stock. Today is the third time in under a month that I have a had to track a staff member from the produce section down (because they are always somewhere else) to ask where the sweet potatoes are, and for them to respond "we're all out". Really? And yes, the aisles are wider at this location, but it makes no difference if half unpacked boxes of goods are placed along the sides. I do enjoy the ladies behind the deli counter, and the meat and butcher and seafood staff. But produce....let's get it together. read more

Rudest and laziest cashiers. Have noticed a significant change in the customer service of the last few years. Food is often warm in the new glass door refrigerators. Have often found yogurt several days past expiration dates. For such a large and new store, the management does not seem to have a good handle on the inventory or the employees. read more

This Giant has a confusing layout. It's pretty nice for a Giant, however, which isn't saying much. It's definitely beats the nearby Safeway.

Sad to learn that this location doesn't carry castor oil! (Was looking for a friend!)

If you're about to pass out from dehydration, don't ever think Giant employees will help you out. Just call the paramedics right away. It was a very warm day and the AC in the supermarket wasn't working very well. I bought a bottled water and a few watermelon wedges to stave off my dehydration. After paying for these items, I went to the cafe area in the back of the store to ask for a simple cup of ice, thinking it would be no problem because I had just made purchase. But to my mistake, no d(ice). They refused to give me a cup of ice for free. I'm guessing this Is because it's the most valuable cup of ice in the world read more

Great coffee and deserts with excellent service. Very cozy. Lots of beans to choose if you want to take your favorite home. Glad we found it on Yelp. read more

I'm very happy this store has opened to replace the previous iteration of Giant. The store is large and clean, though the aisles are a bit narrow. The produce has been fresh. The employees seem helpful. The parking is free. I hope that the store doesn't decline in quality once the newness wears off. read more

I get people on I've been getting out for a few years now about once a month they just refunded me for two items a few times my eggs have been broken because they do not know how to pack they keep telling them I keep on calling the corporate office in Chicago. Things are marked too soon for expiration area Silver Spring.Maryland. TouchesI had some bread about three weeks ago it says we bake every day this brand and the expiration date was the next day. But I have no choice I am a senior I am alone I like their service and the delivery people their main office the people are nice.At least half their things are close to expiration yesterday I do not buy cheap food smile read more

Clean & well lit Giant with friendly staff. Good organic and health food section only in need of fresh organic tomatoes.

This is the best super market/grocery store I have been in in the DC area. Nice staff and huge selection of international products. Nice produce, bakery, and meat departments. I did get anything from the grab and go area but it looked like they had a lot of nice things. Definitely will return here to shop again. read more

I used to pick things up at the old Giant on P and 7th because it was on my bike ride home from work. It was convenient, but not a particularly pleasant store. Well, life changed, my bike ride changed, and I travelled a different road for a while, but I just dropped into the new Giant on 7th & O. Yikes! I love this place! It's clean, it's airy, the produce is fresh! Reality check - is this really GIANT? Why, yes, yes it is! I'm so impressed; this will definitely be my main food store from now on. read more

This Giant is wonderful in general (huge store, incredibly helpful staff, so many cashiers and self check outs, not to mention the beer and wine selection) but I must say the pharmacy here is unbelievable!! The pharmacy staff is so kind and efficient and understanding. I am so grateful to have them in my neighborhood! Thank you! read more

Giant Market @ O street is the most amazing beautiful store I have encountered in a long time. What I found most interesting is this consumption bar and a bartender James W. That made me surprised and friendliest service that I had a glass of wine and shopped throughout the store drinking my glass of wine. Cheers to you and James make a different spin on a shopping experience I enjoyed so much read more

Solid neighborhood addition without any difficulty or overcrowding at other areas markets.

Not sure what is going on - basically no produce AT ALL the last two times I went and hardly any checkout lanes open. Today the produce section was in complete disarray. It's a shame because the place was pretty good up until now. read more

One of the few items I buy from the "damaged" section is giant-brand canned seltzer water, when it's damaged it's usually $1.99 for a 12-pack, the full price is $2.99. When I went to look to see what was available I learned that they recently changed their policy and are now selling bags of damaged cans, 6 cans per bag for $2.00, not longer 12-packs. When you break down the math, it's now more expensive to buy damaged giant-brand seltzer water, than it is to buy a perfectly good case. 6 cans at $2.00 breaks down to $0.33 per can, whereas a 12-pack of undamaged cans at $2.99 equates to $0.25 per can, just a heads up to anyone looking at the sale section, it's not always cheaper and to take a minute to do the math. Also, the produce section here is always picked through or out of stock on staple items, such as red onions. https://www.peapod.com/product-search/seltzer%2520water read more

So we live above the Giant. You'd think we would always shop there simply for convenience. Nope. We sure don't! And there are several reasons why. If you can get past the expired produce and poor selection of organic food, you'd find surly unhappy employees that provide the worst customer service. They act like you are a huge inconvenience just being there. And don't dare ask any questions because they don't know where anything is anyways. Back to the organic food options - they are overpriced if you can even find what you are looking for. And when I say overpriced, I mean WAY overpriced. It costs more to shop at Giant than it does at Whole Foods and that is no exaggeration. Their setup is confusing and they are always moving products around so you can't find them anymore. Just because it was there last week doesn't mean it will be there this week. Thats especially true in the produce section. And just because they carried that brand last week doesn't mean they will this week. It's weird. The only reason I didn't give this place 1 star is because there is one upside to this Giant....the pharmacy staff. Almost all of them are the nicest, most helpful people you will ever meet. Besides that, this Giant is the worst. Go anywhere else. read more

Whoa. Giant has stepped up their game. This place is HUGE and awesome. I live over by H Street, and we just got a new Giant in May, but I am jealous. This O Street Market location is awesome. It's big, spacious, and has tons more stuff. It's just a Giant, but this is like no other Giant I've walked into. Even the black Giant signs outside look nice. Bought some pineapples when I was there. The check out lady was nice. I never went to the old Giant in this area, but my gf assures me that it was terrible, as she used to live in this area. Her old roommate saw a lady taking a dump on the floor of the old Shaw Giant. read more

they should open 24/7 as the old Giant. I could not believe they downgraded, instead of upgraded, their operating hours.

While I agree with other reviews regarding the produce, this Giant has a terrible 'solution center,' or whatever they call customer service. First time there yesterday. Checkout scanner increased the per pound weight of 3 items resulting in a $18 overcharge. Realized it after I was home, a 15 minute walk. When I went back, stood in line 10 mins, the clerk was irritated she had to deal with the refund. When all her paperwork and rescanning of my card was finished she said, 'That's it, you can go now.' I asked her how about a 'sorry for the inconvenience, sir?' or perhaps a gift card for my wasted 45 minutes or for the store overcharging me 18 bucks? She looked at me as if I was crazy.'No' was all she said. I would have asked for the manager, but I heard her bark at someone while in line and I didn't want to deal with her. In other cities, like Chicago, the two major grocery chains refund you the entire amount if overcharged, excluding cigs and booze. At Giant you don't even get a sorry for the problem, please come again. Welcome back to DC! If you expect nothing, you'll never be disappointed. Guess I will make sure to watch each item get rung up next time. read more
