Inside a 1916 neighborhood store first opened by Russian Jews escaping an oppressive Russia, Mott's Market reopened by the community in 2026 after shutting down in 2022. Open every day at 8 a.m. except Mondays, Mott's Market is a small grocery store with a coffee counter, deli, and back patio. When you first walk inside, you'll notice signs for wine to-go at a discount. Browse aisles of spices, produce, and other grocery staples. The coffee counter serves Counter Culture Coffee in lattes and other espresso drinks. Their breakfast tacos are the best I've had in D.C. They also serve sandwiches for lunch. There are a few seats inside and a large patio in the alley.

I was really looking forward to the opening of this place. Being a resident of the neighborhood, I've visited a couple of times now. I appreciated the option to sit outside and place my order using the QR code. The sandwiches are quite good, but I'm confused about the 18% service charge, especially since my family and I have always had to get our own water, silverware, and napkins. Unfortunately, because of this, I don't think I'll be returning.

Absolutely incredible neighborhood gem!! I lived in Capitol Hill as this renovation was underway and you can tell that this cafe is the result of so much effort and love, I'm thrilled to see it open. I had an iced vanilla latte and the Italian sandwich, both genuinely delicious, and enjoyed them on the back open air patio under umbrellas with plenty of places to sit in the shade. The service was fast and friendly; we received a buzzer for our sandwiches and they were ready in 5-7 minutes. Loved the wine and every day wares selection too (spices, noodles, paper goods/cleaning supplies, take away snacks etc!). It just feels so homey here; we will be back soon!

Breakfast burrito!!!

Don't order a cappuccino, or if you order one expect a latte. Poor service and bad coffee. hard to say which was worse.

Let's start with the service! My friend recommended this spot to me about 30 minutes before I went,…read moreand she raved about the customer service. She told me to let them know she sent me, which I definitely did. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised because the place reminded me of a cute diner with a small market/convenience store twist. I loved that they also support and showcase products from small business owners. The young lady who took my order was so polite, friendly, and easy to order with. The other employees were also super nice and welcoming. I also learned that they have a fish fry every other Friday (and there's one happening tomorrow )! They're celebrating their 1-year anniversary in September, and I will definitely be there to help them celebrate! Now, let's talk about the food! I ordered the fried oyster mushroom po'boy without the bread and substituted fries for the mac and cheese. The mushrooms are made fresh to order, and you could definitely taste the freshness. The crunch from those mushrooms was SO loud, crispy, and delicious! And that mac and cheese? BABY! They did their BIG ONE with that! It was so good that I immediately called my friend, but I could barely get the words out. She already knew exactly what I was trying to say because the food spoke for itself! I also had to share with my wife while she was at work, and she could not stop eating it. There was so much food that I was actually able to give her the rest! Please support this business! We WANT and NEED to keep them open. This is such a major move and a great addition to the area. Go show them some love and support this amazing local spot!

Not only do they provide fresh produce and other high quality goods for purchase... they also offer products made right in the District Of Columbia ( including our world renowned Mumbo sauce !!! ) The true kicker is the Marion Barry Avenue Market receives its fresh produce from a home grown farm right here in Washington DC ( Thank you to the Dreaming Out Loud Nonprofit Organization who actually runs two in-house farms in DC ) The other incentive when patronizing this awesome community based Market, is they have a cozy dine-in area where you can enjoy a delicious hot meal. The menu includes breakfast, lunch and dinner options... from breakfast sandwiches, salad options to pan seared salmon ( note: they also have vegan dishes ) The service is friendly and ready to assist... and the over all atmosphere gives you that I'm right at home feeling ( literally ) Now that I'm fully aware of this community gem, there's no doubt that this will become my go to when grocery shopping.
