Had such a great time at Giancarlo for Mother's Day brunch. We sat outside on the patio, which is dog friendly, and they had a DJ playing that made the whole atmosphere really fun. Even though it was so hot out, we still really enjoyed the vibe. They also had a cute Aperol Spritz cart for Mother's Day which was a nice touch. The MVP pizza was incredible and definitely a must order. We also had the chicken parm sandwich, which was so delicious. And the tiramisu iced latte is an absolute must get. Giancarlo's is pretty awesome! I have been twice now, and I've enjoyed the experience both times. I have gotten the MVP twice (and eaten off it three more times - it's huge), the cold brew, the eggplant stack, and the spicy margarita cocktail. Everything has been pretty good! The pizza is super greasy, but that's to be expected with pizza like that. The servers have been excellent each time. I have been with people who have allergies/restrictions both times, and they go above and beyond to ensure that those are honored. Everyone who I've been with has really enjoyed it too! I've never had a wait for a table, but I can imagine that it gets crazy at the peak hours. It's in a great spot, but the parking is a little annoying. However, there's TONS of it! We had a party of 8 for a birthday reservation on a Saturday night. The staff is youthful and very attentive. I highly recommend the 14'' MVP and Honeymoon pizza! It definitely stole the spotlight at the table. Our entrees were a hit or miss. The Truffle Gnocchi was paired with dry chicken strips. The gnocchi seemed extra large compared to other patron photos and tasted dry as well with little sauce. The Chicken Parm Sandwich should've been called the "The Loaf Boat" -see picture attached. I really enjoyed the pizza, we got the west village and the fig jam was so amazing! I honestly think it might be even better with Gorgonzola or something instead of goat cheese. The pies are bar style thin but 14 inches so definitely enough for share without feeling heavy. We also got it gluten free and the crust was really good. It was a Salted Pistachio latte, which I thought was unique. However, the syrup just got congealed at the bottom and not mixed in with the espresso, so drinking the latte I just got chunks of syrup and pistachio through my straw at random (there were actual pistachio chunks in the drink). Tried this place since I seen another Yelp Elite try it out and it did not disappoint! The Lg Caesar Salad was huge big enough for 4 people to share. The truffle gnocchi was out of this world and I was would definitely ads a protein to this dish. I added the grilled chicken and it was the perfect addition to this dish. We also ordered the West Village pizza and I loved it but I wish the fig jam on top wasn't as heavy. I would definitely ask for this to be on the side or just less than the normal amount. Made this pizza very sweet with the caramelized onions. Overall I really enjoyed my experience at Giacarlo's and the food came out super fast. Great time at the new Giancarlo's last night! We can early around 5pm to be able to enjoy the happy hour specials, which are offered every day including weekends! Certain apps and pizzas are 25% off and drinks are discounted. We sat outside on their super nice outdoor patio! The vibe was lively and upbeat, it was comfortable and well laid out! We started with a few spritz's which were delicious! Apps we had the meatball trio and attempted to get the calamari, but they were all out unfortunately. The meatballs were delicious and you could tell they were homemade. Dinner we decided on the Bufalina sandwich which was the chicken cutlet with hot said lettuce and cucumber. It was delicious!! Also did the Parmesan truffle fries which were perfectly crunchy and not overpowered with truffle. It was just right. The bar pie was the Honeymoon which was pepperoni with hot honey. I will say the pizza and second sound of drinks did take a while to come out. All the good and drinks were very good! Our waiter was nice and helpful! The host was also very kind and enthusiastic. When we were pulling up we weren't sure we were in right place. But once you see it, you'll be glad you did. The porch area is so cute! We got the MVP pizza, I love the thin crust the pizza felt light, but filling. We also tried the chicken parm, the extra Parmesan cheese on top was an amazing touch and the extra vodka sauce too!! Drinks wise I got The G's Spot and it was a great addition to the meal. Very thin crust but crispy bottom, the right amount of well-seasoned toppings. I'd return for the pizza on a weeknight, maybe. The spicy rigatoni was pretty good and a large portion, although I make a pretty mean spicy vodka sauce, so what's the point of ordering it in a restaurant?. But the rest of the food was pretty meh. We ordered (in addition to the pizza and pasta): the antipasto plate, the filet crostini, the drunken parm sandwich, and the chicken milanese. The crostini were undertoasted and onion and horseradish dominiated the flavor. The antipasto plate was huge but it was huge with low quality cheeses and meats. The grapes were good, but that was all I could recommend. The sandwich was all bread and underseasoned breaded chicken. The chicken milanese was drowning in balsamic vinaigrette that dominated everything, and the chicken was underseasoned. They have a full bar, and I thought my cocktail was pretty good. I had the spicy strawberry drink, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone. I had some of my husband's sangria, and it was also pretty good but not particularly original. Starting off with the positives: the space is so nice and a great addition to the North Howard area. I love the outdoor seating and the different stations that you can get coffee, pizza, and drinks at. I think this will be a great place regardless of the weather in Tampa. I plan on remote working here every once in a while, as well. For the shortcomings: we tried the coffee and matcha. Both were pretty mediocre. My vanilla latte was pretty sour tasting, and the matcha latte was pretty much a light green color with 99% milk and sugar. Our friend also ordered the cream cheese and the consistency was so watery!!! I looked past the texture, but the taste was also not there and that everything bagel was pretty salty. To be fair, I didn't try the pizza yet and that looks like it will be very delicious! But from the drinks and the bagels so far, I am not impressed with the food. read more

UPDATE ON BAGLES ONLY: The bagels have improved massively! They are still not fully NYC-level yet, but they are close, and for Tampa they are easily the best bagels I have had. My only real suggestion is to expand the bagel flavors and cream cheese selection. The barista told us this is a more "coffee forward" drink- and it was indeed which we appreciated! My wife and I hit up the new spot on a busy DEC night. No reservation, we had to wait, but that was fine and the host was very pleasant and nice. We got sat, put in an order for fries, rigatoni and the Lucia pie. The food was incredible. I didn't think they could top the Santoro's pizza, but thy did. It's a different style. Crispy, cheesy edges, fresh ingredients, so good. The rigatoni was also banging. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was flavorful, and the slab of ricotta made the dish extra creamy. The fries were pretty good, fell short of the pizza and pasta. Which was fine. But aside from a fantastic meal I want to comment on the incredible staff. It's still relatively new, but you could see the entire team working together. It wasn't one server touching the table. Runners, Managers, whatever you needed someone was there for you. And huge shout out to our server Hayley who was knowledgeable, attentive, bright and nice. We asked if she had been over at Santoro's. She had moved over to be a barista, but had recently been called up to be a server. We never would have known it was her third day on the floor. We saw a lot of the Santoro's staff putting in work at Giancarlo's. Love to see some great people leveling up. We're here for it. And we will keep supporting both spots. read more

We got the hot honey lemon pepper wings and the flavor was awful. It just doesn't mix. The wings were also super dry. I had to send it back. I got the steak crostini instead which was pretty good but the horseradish was overpowering. We got the butcher pizza and the crust was nice and crispy but the meat was very salty. In the ever changing culinary community of Tampa, Giancarlo's is for me another "ok, not overly impressive addition" to the scene. We arrived on a Wednesday evening to a moderately crowded restaurant and met friends who were already seated. We were greeted several times as we came in the door which was nice. The overall vibe is on the cooler industrial side which blends in well with North Hyde Park. A cross between a cafeteria/convenience store look with very little warmth and more of a focus on capacity rather than aesthetic. What this restaurant has going for them is this- the service is great. Attentive, sweet, kind and on point. Our server was in training with another server and both were lovely and made sure we were being taken care of. Where they land in the middle of mediocre to "pretty good" is the food. We ordered a few drinks - a Negroni and an aperol spritz - both were good. For apps we had the meatballs which were delicious and the calamari. Both were great apps. Where the slide happens is the pizza. Or table ordered two different pies- a Lucia and a Supreme. Each one for two folks. The Lucia is spicy and though I like spice, my stomach doesn't so we opted for the Supreme. The problem- I think the gentleman that brought the pies to us gave us the wrong ones. My husband mentioned as we were driving home- "I don't think we ate the supreme". Here is the issue as well. The pizza is VERY thin crust. We like thing crust, but the pizza was definitely overcooked. Both were. A bit on the salty side and from a flavor perspective - well, eh...not my favorite by far. So for us the pies missed the mark. True to the "Jersey style bar pies" style they advertise but overcooked. We enjoyed being with our friends and trying a new place. Is it bad? No...is it memorable? For us that would be a no. There are plenty of restaurants in Tampa with great meatballs- calamari and pizza. So to stand out, I suppose you would have to like the vibe of Giancarlo's for it to be a go too- or perhaps you live close by and thus serves as a neighborhood bar with decent bar food.
