Giacamo's truly offers the best- the best food, homemade bread, sandwiches made with love and high quality ingredients, warm hospitable customer service, hearty soups, tasty baked goods. I love the arnold palmer but cannot speak to their coffee as I do not usually drink coffee. The service is so quick, it is the ONLY place around you can walk in 5 minutes before street cleaning and make it to your car in time- and the sandwiches are NOT premade they are just so efficient while still being KIND!! I ordered a next day sandwich platter for the employee holiday party in my building. Not only did Giacomo's get it done the next day, it was reasonably priced, delicious high quality and made with love. I usually go for the tuna sandwiches myself- tuna w lettuce tomato add onion and mustard on their homemade semolina or baguette or their tuna egg salad cucumber sandwich (delicious) but their chicken salads and tomato mozzarella pesto caprese are also divine, you really cannot go wrong. My mom loves their veggie and lentil soups! There is a small discount for paying in cash! It's take out/pick up but there are two benches outside to eat and people watch! read more

Located next to West End Superette (corner store at W 72nd St and West End Avenue) and within walking distance to the 1,2,3 trains, Giacomo's is the epitome of a great UWS neighborhood spot. Grab a Boylan soda and one of their speciality sandwiches for lunch (my favs are the Hand Carved Country Ham w/ Swiss, the Cordon Bleu, and Cubano) and head to Verdi Square to people watch. I've been coming to Giacomo's for 2 or 3 years. I live in Brooklyn, and come to the UWS for medical appointments, Taichi and Yoga classes, to buy fish at Citarella, and my chosen sandwich from Giacomo (Special #4 Turkey, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, pesto--on multi-grain or whole wheat, sometimes toasted). The most important thing about the sandwiches is that each one is made to order for each customer, not sitting around in a refrigerated case getting soggy. Service is very friendly--clearly many of the customers are regulars and known to the staff. I am so attached to the food, service (staff) and friendly feeling at Giacomo's that even when I have appointments on the Upper East Side I take the bus across town to enjoy Giacomo's offerings. I made a rare trip to the UWS, and while there I made a visit to Giacomo's. Giacomo's is a tiny sandwich shop that I would have walked right by if yelp* hadn't help me find it. I ordered a Country ham sandwich, and I grabbed a bench on the sidewalk. The sandwich was very tasty, but a bit small. My bill with a bottle of Iced Tea was $13.68. A bargain for the UWS. read more

Giacomo's has been around longer than I've been alive. They have honed the art of soups and sandwiches, running the gamut of all things served between bread. Today, I was craving a breakfast sandwich so I came in for their frittata, prosciutto, provolone on a roll. For $4.95, this is a delightful offering. The frittata is fluffy and has little veggie bits throughout, making for a flavorful egg foundation. The prosciutto was awesome; I could really taste it in each bite. The melty provolone cheese pulled everything together, both in the flavor profile sense and in the physical structure of the sandwich sense. The sesame studded roll was fresh and I enjoyed the presence of the seed flavor. I am glad I did not opt for bagel. I have also tried Giacomo's beef chili. Delicious and hearty- this is a veryyy thick chili. A favorite amongst locals. Check out the combo deals, such as ordering a sandwich with chili or soup for an additional charge, if you have a bigger appetite or as an efficient way to enjoy both of their specialties. The owner is a real @$$hole. Always treats you like he's doing you a favor. I try to be polite because I know it's early and he's got a shop to run, but almost every time I've come he's been rude and makes me feel like I'm wasting his time. He'll bark questions at you and ignore you the minute you've paid him, while being incredibly sweet to the others who seem like locals/regulars. I've even noticed that while this has never happened when other staff members make my sandwiches, he's burned my bagels on three separste occasions. Hell, at first I thought I might have done something wrong, but apparently I'm not the only new face in the neighborhood that he's treated like $hit. I realize he doesn't owe me anything, but at least be a decent human being and keep your misery to your damn self, you pile of filth. I recently moved to the area 6 months ago and was quick to make this spot my go-to for breakfast. Their coffee is good, especially the hazelnut, and I enjoy the breakfast sandwiches. This place is a New York gem. The two people that are always working there, I assume it is their business are so friendly and accommodating and create a great homie environment. Even though it is in a great location on the upper west side, their prices are very affordable and the food is delicious. Before work I love to get a coffee and a bagel with cream cheese and avocado. They also have amazing pastries. The pumpkin muffin is to die for and the scones are just as satisfying. They have just about every brownie flavor you could think of. They always have freshly made food and whatever they make that day is what is served. You know it is fresh and made it with love :). It consists of roast beef, avocado, tomatoes, provolone and onions with chimichurri sauce on really great/just right bread.
