Decent service and comfortable seating space, but the food seems just okay here. The quality seems low, but I guess comparing the prices to other brunch spots nearby and Manhattan diners, it makes sense. I still wouldn't pay the price for what we got though. We got pancakes (regular and chocolate chip) and they were just alright. They were thin and floppy (not very fluffy, but they weren't dry). The chocolate chips in the chocolate chip pancakes saved the flavor, but I can imagine the plain pancakes being unappetizing/unsatisfying to eat. It looks unapparent from the outside, but there was a good amount of chocolate chips embedded near the center and inside of the pancakes. They provide a lot of packets of craft syrup and butter. Unfortunately, maple syrup is $2 per packet. I've also tried some of their toasted homemade muffins, which were alright. The corn muffin was a bit dry, and the blueberry muffin was a tad bit too sweet for me. I feel like I need to try some of their other dishes like omelettes or eggs benedict to fairly comment on their food quality, but I don't know if I'd come here for that when they don't appeal too much. I would say the quality is comparable to City Diner and Manhattan Diner. We came here on a whim because my five year-old wanted French toast at 2:30 PM on a random Friday. But all in all our meal did not disappoint. My son thoroughly enjoyed his French toast. My husband had a delicious pastrami and turkey sandwich. We each had a cup of soup that was so tasty! My hubby had the chicken and rice and I had the Manhattan clam chowder! The menu was a little pricey in my opinion, but you could tell it was a family-run restaurant, making the dishes fresh with love. I wouldn't hesitate to return. Lots of gluten free options. I loved the onion soup. However, I ordered a chicken ceasar salad, and it came with just lettuce and dressing, no croutons. Anyone who is gluten free knows the point of ordering a gf Ceasar is the croutons. I asked the waiter and he said they were making them and then brought me a dish of toasted bread squares, not croutons. No acknowledgement or apology. Later the waiter and the manager were kind of rude about it. So I would say go here but stay aware of what you order. read more

Cafe 82 is an old school dinner and most definitely a gem. It's been my go to diner for many years. When I call for delivery, they know my voice right away. Anytime I dine at Cafe 82, they make me feel like I am home. Staff has always been kind, friendly, and extremely attentive. Love the breakfast items, my favorites are omelettes, French toast, and avocado toast. Soups are all delicious and made on the premises. Sandwiches like turkey, tuna or triple-decker or fresh, with large portions and hit the spot. Dinner specials are great. During an age, when diners are not what they used to be, I'm so glad that Cafe 82 is a very appreciated neighborhood spot on the Upper West Side! read more

I came here with a friend for breakfast in a Saturday morning. We were seated promptly and our server was at our table a short while later. The food was quick to arrive. We had to flag a serve for coffee refill, but other than that, service was good. The food is what you'd expect from a diner. It's not overly fancy although they have added outside seating since CoVID which is a nice treat when it is nice out. In an age of dying diners this place feels like a breath of fresh air. Genuinely good service and was packed on a Tuesday afternoon, albeit with a quite elderly quadrant of the neighborhood. But my buddy and I were unperturbed! He's gluten free and they had a whole separate menu for him which was very accommodating. I got a grilled cheese with ham and tomato (they didn't have jalapeño) with fries and my buddy had a triple decker sandwich with home fries. The food was pretty killer, the fries were crispy and well seasoned and the grilled cheese was properly toasty and not just buttery and falling apart. Also some genuinely good coffee? Cafe 82 was the first food stop my chum and I made on Saturday morning during our hike up Manhattan (which means we were pretty hungry when we showed up). We didn't have a giant, elaborate meal here, but like any respectable diner it had the food we needed it to have, and kept us chugging up the island. We showed up around 10:30am on an incredibly humid day. The plan was to get a little sustenance in lieu of a "real" lunch we intended to have further uptown. The place was bustling, with both the outdoor and indoor seating pretty packed, though we were seated right by the entrance inside quickly. Unlike the prior 100 blocks or so, this was clearly a locals spot, with a lot of older patrons who clearly have lived in the area for years. Good vibe. Both of us ordered two eggs and toast, and my chum also got a side of potatoes for good measure. Everything came out fairly quickly (a diner like this is a well-oiled machine) and drama-free. It's pretty hard to mess up eggs and toast. Coupled with a huge appetite, this was always going to be a tasty snack. Was it the best eggs and toast ever? Eh, probably not. (I like my scrambled eggs a little fluffier, and both of us were mildly saddened that the toast wasn't pre-cut into triangles, which I promise you I did not actually take points off for - I'm high maintenance but not THAT high maintenance). But everything was devoured, as it should have been. The service was solid. This is the kind of place that has an army of people roaming around so even in the chaos it's easy to hail someone down for assistance. It didn't take long to grab the check and continue our trek. And the added bonus of a legit diner safely tucked away from the tourist traps? We got a meal that was less than $15 per person - I'll take that every time. read more

I finally called someone over and asked if he is our waiter... his response was " I can be" with a clear annoyance in his tone. I guess he was upset that I disturbed his conversation with a fellow waiter and how dare us two fabulous women of color call him over to us. Since he was so annoyed we informed him of our change of heart to eat in this establishment. His response was " Ok" and the tone was clearly an " I don't give a damn" tone. We left, but I did inform the owner who was still outside conversing with the aforementioned couple. Said owner stated he would address it, however he remained seated. What can I say I was truly disappointed! I am from out of state and when I came to eat at this facility I was hoping for a good experience. Unfortunately that is not what I got. I had ordered a Cobb salad which included "mixed greens" chicken, avocado, corn, bacon, blue cheese and tomatoes. Of course I requested no tomatoes, but no where did I expect to have white onions, green bell peppers, and big black olives! I had then sent the order back to have it corrected for the white onions and when I got my second plate I noticed the green peppers and black olives, it was truly disappointing to discover that there was still white onions in my salad let alone new ingredients that wasn't even mentioned on the menu, then as I picked around my salad I noticed my corn was missing. Now keep in mind I had ordered a side of sweet potatoes fries which is why I ordered a big side of ranch to dip the fries in, but of course no fries were ever brought to the table and they charged me $7.50 for the side of ranch which I had to dip certain parts of salad because some parts were contaminated with the taste of white onions, green bell peppers, and black olives! When I addressed these concerns with I believe was the head waiter all he was able to do was provide a $4.00 discount when in reality they all noticed the disappointment I had with my order and didn't even enjoy the meal as I wanted! I completely understand that "mixed greens" can be considered different everywhere but either have your server explain what is in the mixed greens or put it on your menu so people can order accordingly and don't tell the customer that most people order and don't complain and try to retract your comment! I won't ever visit this place again and it was truly sad to experience this type of service! read more

This is not a diner you want to go to during off hours when the place is 3/4 empty and you are carrying a number of heavy bags. They will seat you at a tiny table even if you ask for something with a bit more room. There were at least 4-5 larger booths available but the waiters wanted people to trip over my bags and refused to seat me at a bigger table. I'm sure if I was a man I would have been treated with a bit more respect. Shame on you Cafe 82. read more

I've been here several times over the years and it's usually been a great breakfast spot. This time, my experience was less stellar. THE GOOD Service was good. Coffee and menu came quickly, food came out in a reasonable time and was hot and freshly prepared. Prices were pretty OK considering it's NYC. THE BAD I ordered Eggs Benedict, which I've had there before and remembered as being quite good. Today, not so much. Although the potatoes were hot, the eggs cooked just right (runny yolk with whites nicely set), the ham and muffins tasty, the yellow-orange glop on top was a mystery. I don't know what it was but it definitely was NOT Hollandaise. While a good Hollandaise has a fair bit of lemony bite, this was downright bland. OVERALL I'd go back, but stick with something a bit more basic. I'm betting their basic ham and eggs, steak and eggs, oatmeal and things like that would be just fine. I'd just steer clear of anything remotely exotic, at least based on today's visit. read more

Needed to grab a quick lunch... normally would never seek out a typical diner type place but the ample outdoor seating while it was just beginning to pour called to me. The waiter said the lentil soup was his favorite and tho I don't love lentil and pictured a bowl of dark muck, it was absolutely fantastic and I will remember to order this in the future. I recently visited this cafe. The food was amazing. The service wasn't great. They charged me a 10$ time that I NEVER wrote in on the receipt. They have not refunded me. Every time I call about the issue, they always tell me there isn't a manger available. It's very sad that they stole money and charged my card for something I never offered them, because the food is very good but I would not recommend this place or visit again ! read more

Love this place. We're new to the UWS and was looking for an old-school diner rather than a brunch spot, and this place was perfect. The food is great--I had the corned beef hash and eggs and it was so much food and perfect, just like a good Manhattan diner makes it. Unlimited refills of coffee and tea and they do take out, too! The staff is also super nice: the first time I went I was pregnant and they congratulated me and asked when I was due. Two weeks later my husband ordered take out and the same waiter asked about me, and was so excited to hear that I had the baby. We had gone twice before and he remembered us, just like we were regulars. Place is also filled with families, which I loved. I went because they had good rating for celiac friendly customers. Although they have a whole gluten free menu, there is no GF veggie burger option. The only veggie burgers have gluten in them. So instead I ordered a pancake with eggs. The eggs were good but the pancake tasted half cooked...
