The guy making the sandwiches is sometimes really rude and the guys behind the counter have overcharged me a few times. They got really defensive when I pointed it out. This is a nice deli right in the heart of the UWS that I've been meaning to try for a while now. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. The food itself was what you would expect from a corner deli store. The staff were very friendly and helpful when I picked up my order. Every time I go I feel a displacement or clearly that I'm not an everyday customer, which I wasn't too focused about. So I had a philly cheese steak and when I say that it's one of the BEST philly cheese steak I've had in a while in New York I mean it. I switched to mozzarella cheese. Good lunch place. I've "discovered" the smoked tuna so that is my go-to there. A tuna salad sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes (I avoid the stringy iceberg lettuce and ask for romaine or another leafy green), side of pickle, maybe chips on occasion, and it's a decent lunch. And at least a dollar or two less than what other delis/cafes would charge. I'm not very creative with my orders here but everything's been good. The tuna salad, tuna melts, toasted bagels....they also make a good steamed coffee and the mochaccino is good too. Nice little place if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Stopped by here the other day because I am at a client and it was the first food place me and my co worker saw. The outside/inside décor is not very welcoming and honestly looks kind of old and dirty. The line system is also a little confusing as people just pile up around the counter since that is where the door lets in. The wraps look as if they have been sitting there for a while so I opted on just ordering a chicken cutlet sandwich. I got a spicy chicken cutlet on a roll, with lettuce/tomato, ranch and pepper jack cheese. The cheese was melted to perfection and the chicken wasn't half bad. My sandwich costs about $7 which isn't really too bad. Overall I was somewhat impressed with my food considering I had very little to think about this place when I walked in. I saw someone ordering a salad and it actually looked pretty good. The ingredients looked fresh and they had multiple dressings. Overall, I think I would come back if I was hungry but I wouldn't go out of my way to get this food. Just like the rating says it was A-OK. I didn't get sick and I was full so I cant really complain about much else. read more

My go to deli. I love the service and the employees work damn hard. Deliveries are always fast and accurate. They also have fresh pressed juices. My favorite is apple and mango. Heroes are amazing!! They seriously last me all day, but the bacon isn't as crunchy as I'd like it to be (ONLY complaint). There's so many yummy food choices and combos!! I live down the block and this is my local joint for sammys, salads and bagels. Food is fresh, portions are humungous and the guys behind the counter are super nice. Prices are reasonable enough for the UWS and down right cheap compared to Momofuku Milk Bar across the street, where a bagel bomb is like $5 . I love their unlimited topping salad bar for less than six bucks and 20 oz hazelnut iced coffees for $2. I am knocking a star because they don't make a good egg and cheese sandwich. This is the staple NY weekday breakfast so any deli worth its salt should know that the cheese should be melted either to the bread or egg. This is the place I order breakfast from several times a week. It is a bare bones cafe but the employees are friendly and the prices are quite low for the area. The muffins are really good but the sandwiches are missing "something". They are acceptable but not particularly "good". I really want to give these guys four stars. I do. But I won't. Let me say that as someone who is an avid supporter of local economies, I do put neighborhood and local owned stores ahead of chains any day. These guys are super. Friendly, personable, chatty, bright... they give me discounts sometimes "just because...", since they value customer loyalty, which I love. The food is above average for this style of deli/cafe/coffee shop and they charge at least a buck and half less for everything than, say, Europa on Broadway. ($3.50 for egg and croissant vs. $5) I don't drink their coffee because I'm from Seattle and a coffee snob and walk the extra two blocks to Joe, so I won't comment on that. But they have a lovely selection of muffins (not sure if they're locally baked, I hope so, but am skeptical) and a surprisingly full breakfast menu, with all forms of pork, which I don't eat but respect the offering, and veggie omelets, sammies and platters. Here's why I can't give them 4 stars: At least 50% of the time, they mess up my order. One would think I would have learned by now to check my food before leaving, but frankly, I'm stupid. Still, Egg, tomato and cheddar on a croissant seems like a totally reasonable amount of ingredients to remember. Almost every time they don't put cheddar. I think the guy might actually not be so familiar with the word cheddar, being so entrenched in this bizarre NYC deli culture where cheese is only ordered by the word "cheese" which automatically means American, which is not cheese. When I order my co-worker's usual breakfast platter with meat, half the time there's no meat. Yet I'm charged for it. The Hispanic individual making the breakfast, was extremely disrespectful! I told him I wanted an omelet with feta, tomato, and spinach, with a toasted plain bagel on the side. After I told him 3 times what I wanted, he mumbled and said something that (I'm assuming was intended for me) After I told him to repeat what he was saying (respectfully) he looked at me and ignored me, and started talking to the other customer. What ended up happening was he gave me was a platter, with peppers?! Very little tomato, cold feta, and spinach. And a toasted bread on the side instead of a plain bagel. Sanitation and hygiene practices are very poor. Wanted to wash my hands before eating but there was no soap in the bathroom. Moreover, outside the bathroom there was a soap dispenser which was empty; after notifying a worker they were unable to put in a new container of soap due to difficulties in getting things into the "flimsy" old dispenser. This same worker went back to the grill behind the counter to finish preparing some grilled food. However, after handling the dirty soap dispenser their hands were not washed nor were gloves put on before resuming work. This is absolutely "disgusting" practice. Furthermore, an employee was asked how they wash their hands. They stated they used the bathroom and/or soap dispenser in back. But, NO SOAP! Seems like proper personal hygiene by employees is not followed at this place. read more

As I live down the block from this deli, I frequent this place every other sunday for a bagel with cream cheese and lox. I would say the bagels are smaller than average for NY, but their sandwiches are pretty decent. Staff is always friendly and price is not bad for NY standards. I've also hear their coffee is pretty good. Just recently they have made themselves open 24 hours, which is amazing since there are not too many places in the UWS that are open for late night eats! read more
