The bagels are average at best - on par with bagel carts, but slightly less stale. Of the four bagels I purchased, three had green dots on the bottom. It didn't look like mold so we ate them anyway, but I can't figure out what they are... it looked like ink drops. There were a few tables and some window bar seating, which is nice to have, especially in a neighborhood where basically everything is take out only. The cashier was also super nice. Cream cheese on the side is sold by weight, $10/lb (same price for plain or flavored cream cheese) - the smallest container is about 4oz and was $2.99. Four bagels + two small containers of cream cheese ran me about $15; reasonable for high quality bagels/cream cheese but these didn't really cut it for me. *$10 minimum for credit cards* supposedly there's also a cash discount (as posted at the register) but I paid cash and there wasnt any discount. More likely they mean they add a fee to credit card transactions. read more

Stopped in on a Friday morning to grab a couple of bagels with cream cheese. They aren't doing seating inside so it's order and go. There was one other individual in the store and once they finished his order, I was assisted next. I initially wanted a blueberry and plain bagel however they were out of blueberry so second option was cinnamon Rasin. Nice amount of cream cheese to bagel ratio and always love the soft chewy bagel. Will keep this place in mind for a bagel when I'm in the area, just remember to get their early for the best selection. read more

UPDATE: Things seem to have gone downhill. Below is an updated review for two recent experiences: In June, I received a bagel with spoiled plain cream cheese - I took 1 bite, instantly threw up, and threw the bagel away. I order from here very regularly, to the point where they know be by name, and hadn't had an issue until now. I decided to handle this nicely because they always provide great/friendly service. So I gave them a call to report and resolve this privately. I hadn't ordered again until today, and the same thing happened - spoiled cream cheese yet again. 2 bites, vomited, and threw it out. So this time I'm posting a review for others. This place clearly isn't keeping the cream cheese fresh, and/or utilizing FIFO properly. It's incredibly dangerous and only a matter of time until a customer gets very sick. I cannot return, and I won't be ordering again. OK, so this place has made some improvements in the past several months. I don't know if they have switched management or just got their act together, but I have found myself going here at least once a week. It's pretty much the only bagel and coffee place in the immediate area, so it's a go-to for the time being. I still don't order bagels with cream cheese here, but my boyfriend does and says that they have gotten better about not slathering it with excessive cream cheese when you ask them not to. My favorite thing to get is a pumpernickel bagel with lox. The bagels are always fresh, and the lox is just as fresh and high-quality as similar places in Midtown and the UES. The upside is that while places in those neighborhood charge upwards of $13.00 for a lox bagel, Bagel Tree prices theirs at a very reasonable $7.00. The only thing I'll dock points for is that their coffee is very overpriced. A medium iced latte is about $5.00, and the coffee sometimes tastes stale. They should either drop those prices or improve the product. --------------- Right around the corner and I still won't go back. When I say "light cream cheese" I don't mean "glob it on until it reaches critical mass". So much spread on my bagel that it squirted all over my handbag and my clothes. Disgusting! In a neighborhood that has a long way to go like East Harlem, you can count on getting some fresh great tasting food here. It's very clean and well attended by the friendly staff. It took this place forever and a half to open but it finally opened its doors this morning. For breakfast I ordered an everything bagel, scooped out with egg and sausage. Nothing complicated. Took a while to make but ok, $3.50 +tax. The bagel itself is pretty good, fluffy and easy to pull apart. I like my everything bagels heavily seasoned so I think it could use more on the top. Sausage circle on top of two scrambled eggs, it reminds me of living down in midtown. For now I give it an ok. The prices on the bottled beverages is kinda high for the area, im not sure how this place is going to hold up over time but we shall see. I've been working in this area for the past 14 years and finally have a quality place to eat. On the positive side, the place is nice and clean and the staff is very friendly. The food quality is good and the food is fresh. The salads are great as well as the burgers ( fries are not that great ) Free WIFI with seats too. The breakfast menu is pretty good too. On the negative side, it is the prices. The nickname we give at our work is the robbery joint because they will take your money. I'm always surprised how much I pay for any Item there including the coffee ( sucks) I guess I'm surprised because where the store is, Spanish Harlem not midtown Manhattan. Loved this place! I live really close to it and I can say I'll definitely be a regular. I do agree with Keejoo though, the place took FOREVER to open. I heard someone in the place today say that it wasn't meant for this neighbourhood, but I disagree. Harlem is actually a wonderful place, it just sucks that many people take away from the wonderful culture of the neighbourhood by making it look bad with their distasteful behaviour. There's a gentleman standing outside also on this cold morning. So I call an a Latina lady answer the phone. I'm looking at her though the door. I then I asked her what time they open and she say 6 am. So I told her I'm at the door and it's now 5 after. She then opened the door and told me I have to wait because they has to fix things up. I ordered two bagels from door dash. When I received my order I was meet with disappointment as BOTH items were incorrect. As I use things such as seamless and door dash often I called the restaurant directly. I was meet with even more rudeness where the girl who answered said it wasn't there fault both orders were wrong and that it was what was printed on the receipt. When I went to explain that the options were available and that it wasn't my fault she proceeded to put me on hold. Little did she realize I was not on hold and heard her continuing to take orders. I waited on hold for ten minutes to no one getting back on the line with me. The food was mediocre and the customer service was beyond terrible and unreasonable. Oh, Bagel Tree. You are a fickle beast. Your bagels are often times just the way I like them, a little crunch on the outside but soft on the inside. You are clean, well-kept, and well stocked with many goodies that some might say detract from the beauty of a good bagel. Nevertheless, those hardly distract me. The guys behind the counter know how to hook up my regular order, but for whatever reason that lady at the cash register is always too stressed and slightly rude. Bagel Tree is a small blessing in disguise. Tucked away in East Harlem, this place is conveniently located on 124th street a quick hop from the train. The folks there are inviting, the space is very open and filled with natural light from the large windows that span the two sides of the corner establishment. Bagel Tree has high quality food, at fair costs. Service is great and they deliver too. Only issue would be hours for me so it is not the most convenient if one works until evening and looking for a bite. For a weekend pick me up or weekday lunch, this place is the one! read more
